It surely had private guest rooms, but I was surprised to find out about the shared centralized bathrooms and showers. I probably should have read through the reviews, but I couldn't turn down this deal, due to the close proximity of the Bradley Park location. The property was basically 1 km from the start line of the 2018 Blackmores Sydney marathon and half marathon and decided to book this one - mainly due to that aspect. And so, I booked this hotel accommodation, not knowing well enough that this is like an upgraded hostel. The Glennferie Lodge is basically a two story private residence - or what looks like it in Kiribilli / North Sydney Australia. It's nice that it is nestled in the suburbs of North Sydney, away from the urban twang from the central business district across the bridge. The neighborhood that it sits on is a quiet area, which is always nice to be in. I booked two nights here at the Glennferrie Lodge and possibly had a good stay here, even though having to go to the restroom at 2:30am & 4:15am, and need to leave your room wasn't the highlights of my stay. Just needed to be said. Keep that in mind when you are looking for affordable accommodations here in the northern suburbs or even in the Sydney's central business district. For me, Glennferrie was affordable enough and logically sound. The overall experience here at the Glennferrie Lodge was ok and good at the same time, although the aforementioned shared bathrooms outside the individual units was a bit annoying. I guess that came with the territory when you acknowledge booking with them. They assigned me room 59, which was one of the rooms on the ground floor. As you can imagine, those shared bathrooms / showers were on the higher level. So, having to climb stairs at 2:30am for the restroom wasn't fun, but necessary. The Glennferrie Lodge is located at 12 Carabella Street in the Kiribilli / North Sydney Australia neighborhood. They accept major credit cards for payment, which is always a good thing for travelers and people who wish to stay local. Getting here is usually done through private car. They have parking spaces here for guests. Best bet is to utilize these spaces or other nearby residential streets, if possible. For me, I got here initially through walking from CBD area of Sydney via the Sydney harbor bridge, although taking Uber thereafter was way better. However you want to get here is fine. Sometimes, finding a nice place outside the CBD area for a relaxing weekend can do a lot of justice. The house itself was beautiful, however, when you walk through the level where the reception was - the floor squeaked pretty loudly. Hard to tip toe about when the floor does that. The room I got was nice. Since I was there for 2 nights, I slept on both beds, one on each night. Seemed the right thing to do really. They had me in a room with 2 single beds. The unit itself seemed albeit small, but it was large enough to be habitable and cozy. The ambiance of the room was nice and everything was working correctly. The WiFi was spotty during my stay or not working properly, so I just used my network data. The room itself was clean and seemed like a small apartment, but with 2 beds, instead of one. All in all, it was a good stay. The prices here were pretty good. I believe it was about AU $80-$100/night, which isn't bad at all. Just need to remember the thing about the shared bathrooms, showers, and you should be alright. The check in and out service was fine, friendly, and quick. The beds were pretty comfortable and I managed to get good amount of hours of sleep for the race and enough to get up early for the early flight out to Christchurch, NZ the Monday after. It's a cute place, if you don't mind the bathroom / situation. Consider coming to the Glennferrie Lodge, where it can be cost effective to be here. Although it's not a bad location from the CBD area of Sydney, best bet is to just get around with a rental car or even uber. Recommend if you are visiting Sydney and need a place that's budget friendly. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 3.0 stars for the bathroom trips upstairs. 4.0 stars for the room and bed. comfort. When my other half and I checked in we were told those who booked with them on their site they'd be a complimentary buffet breakfast for us. We'd booked with trivago however he had given us the pass which was awesome. The food was nice they served tea, coffee, juices, cereal and hot food. The tea room has a TV and an outdoor seating area with a lovely garden. We got a deluxe double bed room and it was spacious. There's a TV, desk, lounge chair and two bedside tables next to us and a shared balcony. They'd also provided a guest book with info regarding the area; eateries, transport and emergencies such as nearest hospitals. Around the lodge you'll find canvases of the sydney harbour and well known sydney landmarks which was refreshing. The showers and bathrooms are shared and they're all unisex. All generous sized with everything you may need ie. Bins, soap, hair products etc.

It's downtown Chatswood and very close to everything from food to shopping to the subway to go downtown Sydney which Was only a 20 minute ride. The staff was very friendly and very helpful of telling us how to get around the cheapest way and what site were near by. I would definitely stay here again.

We were there 3 nights! The suite had: * 2 bedrooms (1 room with 1 queen bed, 1 room with 2 single beds) * pull out coach in the living room * kitchenette w/ stove & microwave * 1 full bathroom with shower & tub, * 1 full bathroom with shower * washing machine * mini dryer * TV * balcony The room was very cozy. They provided standard amenities (travel toiletries, towels, tissue, dishes, soap, etc.) They don't do housekeeping until check out tho, that was a bummer. Majority of the staff were friendly at the front desk. Parking is free for guests, but space is limited! It's walking distance from the lagoon (perfect for my toddler niece & nephews), and the pool was nice! Next time, I may want a room with the pool & ocean view. It's also a couple blocks away from a mini shopping area in case you want to buy some groceries, got to a cafe/bar, etc. The nightly rate was quite expensive though, but we did go during summer (after Christmas), but it was work it. I'd suggest to book way in advance to secure your preferred room, and hopefully get a lower rate. I'd DEFINITELY come back =)

We opted for a balcony room facing the "mountain" which also overlooks the carpark and village. There are no flyscreens but equally there were surprisingly no flies so we did enjoy wide open door to the balcony. The balcony is pretty big too. The Mantra is on top of the Ettalong Diggers but this was not a noise problem if you shut the balcony doors, The bathroom does not have an exhaust fan so you need to have the door open to have a shower. The shower can be fiddled with so that it will work properly. We had a spa but didn't use it. Kitchenette and laundry (plus powder) are also part of the room. Parking is undercover and shared with the Digger's club but there was no problems getting a park. You can get towels from reception for the pool and beach but don't lose them as it will cost $20.

It advertises itself as Mountbatten Hotel, but that's just the name of the pub downstairs. When you arrive, it's actually named Sydney City Hostels and the entrance is on Ultimo Road. Up two flights of stairs - no elevators - is reception. Staff are friendly and helpful although it would have been nice to have been notified of the $20 refundable key deposit in my email confirmation. I had to leave to get cash out and come back. The rooms are decent with a flat screen telly, mirror, small table and 2 chairs as well as an extension cord so you can plug your phone in for charging while you sit in bed (if you happen to be lucky enough to score a bottom bunk). Fancy, huh! The room, however, smelled like arse and feet, and sweaty men's clothes. Floors were pretty filthy, so I'm not sure how often they get cleaned. Then again as I arrived there was a guy packing to leave after 4 weeks in that room so maybe he made a mess after it was cleaned that day. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt?! There's a locker provided in the rooms for each bed, but it was slightly too small to fit my 40L backpack. Good to keep passports or small valuables like laptops or cameras. There was one toilet and 2 showers near my room, and I was told that there were additional bathroom facilities down the corridor although I never checked them out as the toilet was free whenever I needed it. Bathroom facilities were always clean. It's worth noting that reception is only open during the day (8am-10pm I think) so if you need anything outside of hours, tough luck. The hostel is pretty noisy on a Saturday night, I'm not sure if it was a room in the hostel or a nearby pub but there was loud partying all night long. I managed to sleep through it for the most part but next time I'll remember to bring ear plugs :) Beds could really use with updating... I switched from a much-too-firm top bunk to a way-too-soft bottom bunk (mattresses are obviously never turned!!). I left early the next morning to escape the smell in the room and showered in a friend's nearby hotel room (wasting the $2 I paid for towel hire!) so I can't comment on the showers or free breakfast. Location is great, 2 minutes from Central Station, easy walk to China Town, Paddy's Markets, Darling Harbour and Pitt Street Mall. There are tons of great restaurants in the area and getting here by public transport is really simple. Would I stay here again? Sure, but next time I'll book ahead so I can get a female only dorm.

As a former Ultimo local - and representative authority on all things Ultimo, AND all things related to the former NSW Government Printing Office - the Lord Wolseley has at times been the focal point of my world, both social and academic. What a mad, crazy thing to say about a pub. That's probably not very helpful for YOU, is it, since you want to know about the pub itself. Right. The Lord Wolseley has a great history. Built in 1881, the Woz was the drinking hole of the infamous Sydney crim Neddy Smith, and company ... and also the favoured pub for the letterpress printers at the NSW Government Printing Office. At five minutes to 1pm on a weekday, the publican would line the bar with 30 cold schooners, and at 1 minute past 1, the printers would rush in. 5 minutes later they were all heading back to the bar for a second shout. In recent years the Lord Wolseley has changed hands a fair bit. For a while we were worried it would close down. It is now owned by TV mogul Errol Sullivan, who has allegedly promised to keep it as a "good old pub" and not ritz the place up. His sons might be running it, and they might be twins. It's also a little off the beaten track, so not attractive to developers and the big-bar owners of Sydney. What to expect? It's a bit run down, and rather narrow. You can drink outside in the village green, if you behave yourself. The drink price is average, and you might get some raised eyebrows if you try to order a fancy cocktail or an upmarket wine. There are plenty of old locals milling around, happy to engage you in conversation or tell you what a wanker you're being. Oh yes -- one of the best things about the Lord Wolseley is that it HAS NO POKIES. Ok, I think I need to repeat that. THIS PUB HAS NO POKIES. Wait! I'm sort of wrong. Technically the Woz has pokies, but they are decommissioned and turned off, shoved into a room in the basement. It makes me grin whenever I see those dead machines - they look like dead daleks. Victory to the Dr! The kitchen at the Woz has in the past been pretty dire - very greasy stuff with a bit of a Thai twist. But with the new ownership, things may change in the back, we shall see...

While I would say that the patrons had even spilt out onto the road, there were a number of barrels out the front where they would consume their beers and chat with their mates. As a pub it is actually really nice, and has quite a lot of character. There is even a really nice restaurant out the back. Okay, it is pretty small (and really crowded when I was there), but it is still one of those pubs that I would definitely want to visit again.

I would stay here again 10 years ago, but alas I'm not a pubescent 20 yr old. I wouldn't reccomend for yuppies for this reason and or young kids, unless you don't mind telling them about the birds and bees sooner than most because of the red light district. But if you are a DIY grunge party animal than yes this place boasts your attention. Lobby has 4 working computers with lots of pamphlets of the touristy things you can do in syd and elsewhere. And there is a rooftop picnic area that they use for parties. If location and clean cheap stays is the top of your list then hop on the jackaroo.
