Got the pleasure of dropping in for the first time with a group of kids. It was a class experience where multiple coaches were working with a few small groups. I was very impressed with how detail oriented each coach was, from the youngest to the oldest, they all paid attention to every kids need, and did what they can to push each kiddo just enough. Best place ever!! My son has learned a lot here and all the coaches have been awesome!! My son or anyone else in our family has never been mistreated by anyone here!! Everyone has been welcoming and cool so I really don't understand why other parents are saying otherwise ‍ maybe their kids aren't used to being shown discipline. But this place teaches respect, confidence and discipline so of course a parent is gonna feel like their child is being abused cuz their child is probably used to going to the corner for 60 seconds at home read more

I love this place. My kids all trained here up until high school when they transitioned to wrestling. Coach Rich cares about the kids like they're his. I have nothing to say but good things about him and the rest of his family that help coach. There's a reason so many people are haters! The kids from this gym are top notch competitors. read more

That beautiful sound originating from the repetitive and explosive contacts with the heavy bag and my right shin bone rings true to my ears even years later...The broken rhythm of my labored breathes as I struggled and strived against difficult opposition in the multitude of countless rounds and sparring.... And the lasting euphora when my personal demons began to dissolve and get lost in the myriad and constant grappling... Riverside Submission holds a deep sentimental value to my heart. Although it has been over a decade since I last stepped foot on those rigged mats under the tutelage of Coach Rich and Coach Frank, I can not thank them enough for all they taught and bestowed upon me during my young adult age for the experience there had set the positive trajectory tone my life has evolved into. For first timers, do not be discouraged by the rough and rigged exterior and personality of Coach Rich and Frank. Despite their rough exterior, they are very passionate and poetic with their jiu-jitsu. Like all great coaches, they respect commitment, dedication, and hardwork from their students and will push you. With time and a shedding of blood, sweat, and tears, you will come to really learn how great these guys really are. The strongest steel is forged by the hottest fire. They both come from a rough and tough upbringing which has forged their warrior spirit and their dedication to instilling and building confidence for the youth in the community. This grappling dojo is definitely a hidden gem in Riverside. I like to think of them definitely as the "Cobra Kai" of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu but also a place brought by individuals who have gone through great struggles and who understands the rewards and benefits from learning a martial art. It's hard to find good jiu jitsu as you go further and further away from the coast. So when I found that there was a Jiu Jitsu place around the corner from me in Riverside, I had to go. The guys there are very cool and helpful. They have a good sized gym- something you wouldn't expect in Riverside. They actually have a bunch of MMA fighters as well. They recently doubled or trippled the size of the square footage of the academy. Awesome! What's great about this place is that for warm ups, these guys will run up to the top of the mountain(Mount Rubidoux). When guys are doing that, you know they are for real. I'm constantly on the move, be it SF, SD, OC, IE, LA or another country, so I have to know where the local good jiu jitsu is at while I'm in a location. When in Riverside, you must check out Riverside Submission- the name says it all! I believe the Head Instructors names are Rich and Frank. They are good guys and have been around for a while so their technical knowledge is great! read more

The Coaches there RICH and FRANK are great guys. The grapplers there are really good, and I heard their kids team are nationally ranked. I trained there on and off for a while, but been busy with school and work. The classes are tough and its a good workout. Its the best way to learn, pure and raw. They have a few fighters that are pretty decent. It's no walk in the park so be ready to train when you get there. read more

My kid's have been member's for a year. My 9 year old son was bullied with low self-esteem because of his weight. Coach Richard has made a totally different kid with him. My 6 year old daughter is so in love with the sport. This family owned gym make's you feel apart of something teaching the children discipline structure and self defense. We drive one hour from Victorville to Riverside just to take our daughter to practice.Coach Richard and Coach Frank are black belts and teach through practice, theory and having the kids go one on one. @squirtguy these people commenting on this are parents of students... As am I. I take my 5 year old daughter there and coaches Richard Xavier and Frank are amazing coaches. As far as starting fights at tournament, when at best of the west 2006, when another coach smacked Richard and Richard defended himself ?! Also riverside submission does not sandbag, just because they actually teach their kids and their kids fight hard whether they have been training 3 months or 5 years, they don't take your money and hold u back and jut go over basics all the time. They got basics and advance moves that let our kids finish at tournament. You don't have to bring your kids here, you don't have to, just know that your kids do not have the best coaches in so cal! This place is very family orientated and coaches here love what they do! I definitely recommend this place for little girls and boys! As far as adults classes are amazing too. read more
