We dropped off our cavalier on August 5th and picked him up on the 14th. He started out as a healthy dog and ended up with an eye infection and punctured/torn cornea. I had emailed the facility at 9:32 am that we would be picking him up. At 9:42 there was a reply to me that he was getting his haircut and would be done in 30 minutes. We got to river view at 10:30am and found their door locked and no one would answer the door. That 9:42 message had no notation that we can't pickup until 3:30 pm. Fortunately there was an independent groomer inside that answered our question about getting in and we were told the kennel has designated pickup and drop off times which we were unaware of. However she couldn't let us in. We live 40 miles from Belvidere in Pennsylvania so we were annoyed to have traveled the distance only to find it closed. Hours of operation are posted on the door but in handwriting is the pickup and drop off times. The independent groomer told the owner our situation and we did receive a call at about 2:15 pm that they would allow us to pickup our cavi ahead of time which we thanked her for. We arrived there and we were missing our dogs cushion that goes with the bed we had dropped off. She argued with me that pickup and drop off times are listed in the website which I went back to review only to find that information somewhat buried in the site not easily accessible on their website. To top it off we are currently treating the eye problem. And after I paid our bill by cc there was an additional 20.00 charge for using the cc , i wish that was brought to my attention because I did have a debit card on me. The gal clerk isn't the most helpful individual at the counter. We won't go back. read more

A year later, I am still so mad about this place I need to write a review. Brought my 110lb Doberman about 1 yr ago in for nail grooming. First 1 or 2 times were OK at best. Place was rough, lots of cats roaming around the entry/main areas of building which good thing my large dog isn't aggressive to cats, service was pretty subpar and grooming job I prob could've done myself. But whatever, not much around here. Then I bring him in and the groomer who's been doing this amazingly mediocre job so far is apparently trying to get him on a tall grooming table (??) and fricking drops him approx 3 feet. He lands on his back and sprawls out. Obviously I am concerned and rush in to the grooming area to see if he's ok. The groomer looks and talks to me like I'm the jerk in this situation for going in there and you didn't just potentially seriously injure my dog. Screw this place, I am DISGUSTED. Extremely disappointed in Riverview Kennels in Belvidere. Receptionist was extremely rude. we had tried to call multiple times to explain we would be late due to traffic and no one answered the phones. We had paid extra for grooming and were assured it would be done Saturday afternoon the day before they came home and it was actually done Friday. We wanted to make sure they were clean before paying for the grooming and the receptionist got extremely rude and nasty and then threatened to add a late fee...to which we responded that's fine but deduct the grooming fee. When the receptionist was explaining why the dogs were not groomed on Saturday it seemed the story kept changing. First it was well we don't groom Saturdays to which she then looked in the book and said we only groom Monday to Saturday. Then it was the groomers birthday and then the groomer who is not there on Sundays was there on Sunday and almost died. Now I'm not saying it didn't happen but you can see where the confusion came from and had we been told right from the beginning that Saturday was not an option we would have never scheduled it, Being that dogs would then sit in cages for 2 more days. The dogs looked clean but smelled terrible. Nails were also not cut as we were told they would be. I completely understand we were late however we made multiple attempts to alert them to the fact we were going to be. No one answered the phone even though they were there. Although, I did pay the full price of 531.00. 160.00 of that toward the grooming i would NEVER recommend this boarding facility to anyone as they were so disrespectful and rude and they charge for services not rendered. read more

We have been using this boarding facility for a couple of years now. We have always been happy with their care and trusted Jess and Lisa caring for our dogs. Not now. We picked our two dogs up yesterday after 11 days and they both had something wrong with them that we weren't told about when we picked them up. These were totally healthy happy dogs when we dropped them off for their stay. One now has a bad upper respiratory infection and is obviously sick. She is so sick. Can't even drink water without vomiting.The other has a big sore on his forehead. The one that is really sick even had stained urine-feces on her foot when they brought her out to us.It could also have been dried vomit. When we picked them up I asked if they did okay and Jess said she didn't know because they were on vacation themselves. That means strangers were caring or should I say not caring for our dogs. TOTAL NEGLECT. In my personal opinion this place has become more of an ANIMAL SHELTER rather than the CLEAN boarding facility we were once so happy with. We will never ever use this facility for our babies again. NEVER!!! read more

The last kennel in Stewartsville, New Jersey we had him in for a week he lost 3 pounds, and on a 13 pound JRT that's too much. A truly horrible experience! we have been taking our animals here for a couple of years for grooming. Not a great job but they were not to far away and did an ok job. Today they were done washing grooming and doing my cats nails and ear in less than 20 minutes. The poor cat was still wet and shedding like crazy. I call to tell them about my concerns. After all it costs $80! I don't mind paying the price for a job well done. But not even 20 minutes and a mess. The owner was absolutely vicious and instead of addressing the issue started picking on me! I had no idea my cats rabies certificate had expired. She went off on me about it saying she took the cat anyway and the cat could have infected them etc. Umm first off that's illegal and she could have infected everyone else's animals and all the people if my cat had rabies (She's also a kennel) She should have told us on the phone when we booked the appointment that the rabies expired and she couldn't take us until it's update. That is her responsibility as an owne. She refused to make right on the grooming and hung up on me after yelling and demeaning me and my Kitty. After posting questions about this on Warren county FB page the overwhelming amount of complaints alone with horrible photos of peoples pets that have gone there made me decide to write this review in hopes that I can save another person or pet from the abuse. read more

If you plan to use Riverview kennel for grooming for your pet, I would recommend getting a firm price in advance. In my experience, I was quoted a ballpark price on the phone and then when I had the service performed, I was charged twice as much. If you can believe it, they charged me $85 to have one cat's nails trimmed! I will never go back there. What a ripoff, and a shame, because I have 10 cats, and they lost what could have been a great customer. read more
