Absolutely horrendous staff. Only hospital in the area and they take advantage of that. I came in with textbook appendicitis and they tried to send me home with Advil for period cramps. I refused to leave. I was subjected to a pelvic exam then finally after 10 hours in the ER they tested me for appendicitis (CAT scan I think). The surgery and recovery was three times longer than standard because, due to the delay in care, it had become gangrenous. On my most recent trip, accompanying a loved one, a patient was brought into the ER. He was in diabetic shock. The nurses kept calling him "Davey" (pseudonym used here) which he would get upset at and say "don't call me Davey, my name is David!" The nurses would say "okay, Davey!" And start laughing when he went off again. Unbelievably cruel. The staff present in this instance would be those in the ER on the afternoon/evening of NYE, 2024. My own loved one was brought in due to a severe injury to the knee. After initially showing the nurse the issue we were told someone would come soon. My loved one had emphysema and the oxygen kept dipping to below 80. After the third time the alarm went off, I had to find a nurse to take a look at the alarm that was clearly making noise. It was easy to find them, most were hanging around the desk talking about their holiday plans. The nurse dismissed it and said it was just because my lo was cold and pointed us to where the blankets were (fast forward to later in the stay, over a liter of fluid was drained from the lungs). When we finally saw a Dr several hours later, they looked through the chart and were mildly concerned about the oxygen levels but dismissed it as emphysema. As the Dr was leaving we asked, "and what about the knee?" The doctor was confused. The knee injury was either not in the chart or the Dr hadn't read it. It was badly infected and needed IV antibiotics. But was almost overlooked! My loved one was admitted and when they were discharged we were not informed. My LO was still clearly incapable of operating a phone but the hospital did not call us and wheeled my LO to the curb in freezing weather. My loved one has since passed. I do not believe their passing could have been prevented by the staff at Riverview, however their treatment at Riverview in their final few weeks was an affront to decency and compassion. My husband and I both had surgeries here this year. I am actually shocked to see bad reviews because we both had great experience. (Check in was quick and easy. The surgical teams were kind and attentive. And the hospital staff were great as well. If we needed surgery again I would feel very comfortable knowing It would be at Riverview. read more

The care for maternity at riverview is the most amazing experience you can have. The nurses are welcoming, sweet and patient. They even made my fiance feel welcome and important at his stay. There's round the clock visits by the nurses to make sure you're okay and taking care of you. After giving birth you're taken care of and make sure you're not in pain and answers any questions you have. Dr Alcera of Booker Behavorial health, who runs that office, is rude and arrogant, he is nasty, and unprofessional, he told me he was the only doctor who could handle my case, he made me feel uncomfortable and made sure he was involved in my therapy. i hated working with him, even My family member who was with me in the office thought he was a jerk after just spending a bit with him. He and others at that office have horrible attitudes. Dr Alcera liked to re mind me that he was the boss, and when i tried to tell people how i felt and what he was doing, they took his side and told me i should work with him anyway. My daughter was admitted with a kidney infection she was treated and released within 3 days she was back in ER for the same kidney infection. Then she was over treated her ammonia levels were too high so 6 days later she is still in hospital being retreated for the same kidney infection! It's difficult to write this about a Hospital I had so much respect for, however, after a potential life threatening situation went south I have no choice. Admitted in The ER for Stroke-like conditions, I was seen immediately by all necessary personnel. Dr said she has concerns and wanted to keep me overnight for observation and run tests including CAT and MRI Scans. CAT scan was performed straight away, and told MRI had been scheduled. Having dozens of MRIs in the past for spinal issues, with one discovering Cancer while scanning my spine last year, I'm well aware of the importance of this test and the results. Fearing something is wrong as my symptoms for a stroke were evident and anxiety was apparent, I asked the assigned nurse when I would be going down for the scan. Being told they are checking on it, I received no answer. 9 HOURS LATER I still was waiting for a simple answer of a time! My stress and anxiety were out of control that I phoned Radiology myself, when the woman realized I was phoning from my room, she said I don't have the right to speak to anyone in the department and the nurses would be informed. Calling again after another hour wait, the woman hung up on me! Soon security arrived, 3 men, guns on hips, inquiring what the issue is. I explained I was having anxiety and panicking over lack of communication with Radiology. One of the guards was kind enough to say he would go down personally and try to get me an answer - I never heard or saw him again! When I reached 9 1/2 hours with still no answers I removed all my chest monitors, ripped out my needle in my arm and got dressed and walked out of the hospital. All I needed was a simple answer of WHEN I would be receiving my scan, however after nearly 10 hours of waiting, It became evident I wasn't going to be receive an answer. I have had multiple surgerys in this hospital in the past and never been treated like I was on my last surgery joint replacement, the anesthesiologist DR bromberg treated me like sxxt, manhandled me on the OR table and ripped my gown off like a table cloth. I fantasize everyday of running into him so I can return the favor. 2nd after recovery when I had my full bearings I asked the nurse if anyone called my wife she said no did you bring your cell phone, I replied yes its in my bag she responded good then you can call her. The dr in the ER was one of the worst doctors I ever encountered. Rude, disrespectful. I left feeling violated. The dr never even did an exam- never came in and introduced herself. When I asked if she was the Dr. she gave me an attitude from that moment forward. I told her my symptoms- she didn't listen. Asked me that same question right after! I told her I had allergies to medications- she didn't care and wrote me a prescription to something I am allergic too. Never come to this hospital if you can help it. read more

Arrived at ER at 4:00AMish. Empty. I waited at least a half hour between each contact; over five. Watched what appeared to be entire staff enjoying their Dunkin. They put a swath of Lidocaine jell on my wound and brought two vials of liquid Lido that she pointed out to me.. Another half hour. She arrived to sew me up and started without injecting Lido. First stitch I went through the roof! I requested shot. She replied "It will hurt just as much." I had assumed that the jell was a pre-shot numbing. So were those two vials checked out and disappeared? Excellent stitching considering my jumping about in pain. read more

It's weird to do a hospital review on Yelp especially because it's no pleasant place to ever be. I was a patient here in the family health clinic and was more than pleased with the attention I got from the nursing staff, they provided me SO many resources, comfort, support and truly genuine care of what to expect during pregnancy my labor and even postpartum. When it came to labor and delivery it was incredible, my nurses were all so comforting and reassuring. Staff was extremely kind and welcoming, was also very clean. Maternity was just as good if not better, the kitchen was ALWAYS calling always making sure Mom and dad were both fed. Although they called a lot we honestly wouldn't have even remembered to eat if it wasn't for their gentle reminders. Just customer communications. Sat in your waiting room for one hour; nothing! I finally asked when I will be seen; they said they are busy and they don't know!! I asked 1 hour or 3 hours??? They said could be 3 hours. But they still did not know!! This is the ER!! Never have I waited more than 1 hour. Unfortunately it was Sunday evening all clinics are closed. I left. You can do better! Unfortunately I needed to be admitted to Riverview Medical Center several times as I suffered from complications due to my end stage liver disease... Every admission resulted with me staying for 1-5 nights. I want to say not only was the hospital extremely clean, but the staff were super caring, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The nursing staff were so good, I wanted to adopt each one...lol.. I would recommend this hospital to anyone who needs care. From the infusion center to emergency room the care and concern for my situation was professional. So much so , generally I felt like I was the only patient...oh and the cuisine was really good. Go somewhere else, this hospital does not care for it's patients. My mother had a stroke and fell and had bloody bedsores due to their lack of repositioning her. I would be in her room for 6 hours, they are supposed to reposition every 2 hours and they finally repositioned her after several requests. She couldn't feed herself, I would arrive at 10 or 11 am and her food would be in her room stone cold without a spoon mark so I had to go in twice a day and feed her for weeks to ensure she didn't starve to death. I also had knee surgery, they left me propped in a recliner on my elbows for 6 hours before I came out of anesthesia. It entrapped my ulnar nerves in my elbows and several very painful operations later I am still in extreme pain. Nice going in for your knee and coming out not being able to use your hands due to pain and total numbness. Make sure they document any issues, can't even sue them bc they did not document the issues with my hands, kept telling me it out go away read more

Today Riverview Hospital was about to release my mom to a subpar sub-acute rehab after being in Riverview for a week with multiple fractured vertebrae. Today they also realized her wrist had an acute fracture. Took them a week to figure that out. And, as a side note, the person in charge of getting my mom into a sub-acute rehab facility was "too busy" to find a decent one. She was rude, lazy, dismissive, yelled at me, and left the room. It was obvious she didn't care at all about her patient. She admitted she never set foot in any of the available rehabs, yet this is her job. She admitted where my mom was going had bad food, not the best staff- but had good PT. The woman's initials are JP and she should be fired for an awful work ethic, along with sending a patient to a known subpar rehab that is attached to a nursing home with dying people. So, my mom, due to an employee of HM who is unwilling to do the right thing, will be going to rehab/nursing home where her dad, my grandfather, died. This is upsetting. The physical abuse my 80 year old mom endured at the hospital with a undiagnosed broken wrist for a week, along with the emotional abuse ahead of her sickens me. read more

Stay away from this hospital, especially from their hospitalists for treatment. Hospitalists from Teams Health at this facility are butchers with poor medical acumen/knowledge; not doctors. They have zero medical ethics, lack experience, in violation of their medical oath, and are serving as puppets dancing to the tunes of their management versus treating a patient. The nurses and admin's were extremely nice and helped out with any questions. Beautiful hospital is right on the river with relaxing views that puts your mind at ease. I'm shocked at the amount of negative reviews. I've never had to experience the ER here but I had the best experience with the Labor and Delivery/Post-partum unit when I had my daughter in October. All of the nurses (except for maybe one of them) were so compassionate and made me feel so comfortable during my time spent here. Amanda M. in Post-partum was an angel sent from above when I was having a hard time one night with my recovery. She treated us as if we had known her for years. The food was surprisingly really good and the views are out of this world! I'm forever grateful for all of the nurses and for the positive experience I had during such an important time in my life! read more

My husband was admitted into Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank NJ on Sunday evening. Entered through the ER , no issues there. All was going well until late on Tuesday night . A little before midnight . While my husband was finally getting some sleep, he woke to find the patient (that was put in his room earlier in the day) , standing over him with his full hand covering my husbands face ! There was a nurse standing right there watching the whole thing (Z)! My husband could hear her as he was becoming aware of what was happening, say something like " You can't do that , you can't touch him " My husband came completely awake and spent the next hour arguing with other staff members (two senior nurse supervisors at one point) about how this man NEEDED to be immediately moved out of my husbands room . They told him that there were no beds available and that there was nothing they could do . It was obvious the staff wasn't looking out for his safety at this point . My husband demanded that they call Security and have the man removed, he did not feel safe returning to his bed with this man in his room . They refused to call Security ! My husband then wanted to leave the hospital (he was in no shape to do so ) They then said they would explain HIS options !? HIS options ?? They told him that they could move HIM !?? After telling him there were NO BEDS ??? You can't make this stuff up :{ They eventually decided that they should move the man that had laid hands on my husbands face , to another room . Go figure :/ My husband was unable to return to sleep , as you can imagine, but that isn't even the kicker to this story .... At 7 am this man , was back ! He RETURNED to my husbands room and was approaching along the side of his bed again ! Where had he come from you might ask? Where was the hospital staff during all of this ? Why were they not keeping a closer eye on this man , being they kept having issues with him ??? All very good questions , especially since it was shift change and there were twice as many employees there now ! My husband pressed the nurse call button immediately and demanded they get Security up there ASAP !! This is no joke , it really happened just like this . And guess what , they refused to call security AGAIN!! Why he didn't reach for the phone and call the police I have no idea , I would have , or even thrown a punch to defend himself, but he called patient services instead . They came up , took a full report and told him it would be investigated . Remember they have a witness , nurse technician "Z" was present when it all started, and other nurses where they on both the first incident as well as the second occasion in the morning . My husband was released later on Wednesday evening , and we still had not heard back from Patient services (they call themselves "Experience Ambassador's " - what a joke that is ); I took him home , Thursday , still no phone call from them , so we decided to ventured over to the police station and filed a incident report with them. They didn't seem surprised buy his story at all - and that is not a good sign for sure :( They said they would visit the hospital and see if they could get the names of the employees that were on duty and the one nurse that witnessed the encounter, and possibly get the name of the man who started this mess. They said in the past (again not good to hear) they have not been able to get names of anyone involved . What is the hospital ? they are supposed to be caring for people , now they are in "Duck and Cover Mode "? They came back empty handed , hospital (big surprise) refused to give any names. Claiming HIPPA rights on the man being violated (I at least get that part) , but we are even more upset with the way the hospital handled this incident, and how they are not responding to ongoing phone calls to their office . Do they think this is just going to go away ? If all I can do is scream from the roof tops , contact all social media venues , local new papers, etc. I am not going to let this happen to the next patient ! read more

Never going here ever again. Staff is amazing, billing department... not so much. They've sent me bills stating I owe money when insurance has not even finished processing... They DON'T send bills, and forward items directly to a collections agency ... OR they will send you a 'FINAL NOTICE' bill threatening to send you to collections as if they had notified you about the bill prior and you had not paid. Amazed by the labor and delivery department and postpartum. Just delivered my baby girl this week and i could not have asked for better staff. Every nurse i had was well trained, attentive, caring, friendly, just amazing. The doctors were great, and communicated well. This has made my family experience so much more relaxing and focused. The hospital was very clean, and organized. And they always made sure you were stocked. The food was great and they were on top of the three meals a day. I recommend the milk shakes lol. But again i want to thank the staff, nurses, and doctors that were there for me this week. You are all an amazing team please continue to do what you do daily and know you are appreciated! Riverview Medical center Lower level one unit is a disaster waiting to happen. The nursing staff is chronically short staffed. The unit is for mental health yet there is NO consistency in seeing your psychiatrist or treatment plan. I never even met with my social worker in the five days I was on the unit. No daily programs or counselling. Most of the staff either rude, lazy, or incompetent. Patients left to wander the halls or watch tv. The care that I received at this hospital was fine. The billing department needs to go!!!! I went to Riverview in December for an emergency appendectomy. About a month later, I get a bill for $1150. I thought this was a bit high so I scrutinized my bill and found a charge that wasn't covered for $950. I had to look the medical terminology up on the internet to find out what it was. It turns out that the charge was for a cataract lens! They use those in appendectomies now? So, I call the hospital billing and I'm told that they will adjust the bill. Two months later, I'm still getting charged for the cataract lens! I knew that I owed them a $200 copay, but there was no way that I was going to pay any of that bill until they corrected it! They finally send me a corrected bill 3 months later with "final notice" printed in it with a threat to send me to collections! As if I was trying to avoid paying my bill! This is fraud! What if I hadn't scrutinized my bill! I would have paid for something that I didn't get! Total fraud! read more

Terrible experience in the emergency room. Once in a room I waited 30 minutes before seeing a nurse. She put in IV and took blood. Was ignored for another 30 minutes. PA came in. Said she would send in doctor. Waited another 30 minutes. During all this time had extreme stomach pain. Pain was an 8 on their scale. Finally saw a doctor. He was very dismissive and didn't care about the pain I was in and did nothing for my condition (no tests). Eventually he ordered medication to be put in my IV and​ then wanted to send me on my way with no stomach medicine. I demanded he call my GI doctor and prescribe me new medicine. My GI doctor sent me there. Never again will I go there. read more
