Pros: 1) Great Lobby that comes with great seating, free coffee and tea a mini bar that you can to purchase wine and snacks. 2) dog friendly 3) Mexican restaurant that's connected to hotel 4) We had a nice patio that we did use. 5) Valet Cons: Where do I begin? 1) The hallway to your room has flooring that is linoleum so the hallway echoes, which means that you will hear people running up and down the hallways, talking loudly everything vibrates and echoes because the flooring isn't carpet and the walls are very thin. If they're wearing heels, you can hear that from a mile away. 2) The rooms are teeny tiny 3) Our room had two I want to say double beds, but I feel like the beds are somewhere in between a twin size bed and a double bed very small bed. They advertise online that their queen size beds. There was only a foot in between each bed. It is hard to walk in between each bed, especially if two of you are standing trying to go to your beds at the same time. 3) Two of us shared a room and there wasn't a whole lot of room to move around. If one of us was moving around the other one had to stay on the bed. I felt like I was camping in a tent, not even a cabin. 4) The bathroom (WORST PART) was EXTRA small. The door to the bathroom wasn't even a real door. It was a door that was frosted, so you could partially see through it, especially because it wouldn't lock or shut. You could hear the person using the restroom very clearly There was only one mirror in the room and that was in the bathroom. It was a small mirror over the small sink. The sink had barely any room for us to put our toiletry items on there. And there was no else to put our toiletry items, so we had to keep our items in the toiletry bag the whole time. The shower was extremely small. It was a shower that was a standup shower that would've been great for a disabled person with a wheelchair because it was one of those that you could wheel into. There was no tub for instance that had like a tub wall on each side of the shower head. The shower had one door to protect the toilet because the shower was facing the toilet, and a curtain that didn't go all the way to the ground on the other side. What that means is water went all over the ground of the bathroom and we were basically standing in a puddle of water. we had to use our towels on the floor to soak up the water when we were getting ready for our event. The toilet was also very small and had trouble flushing. We also had NO HOT WATER WHEN WE WERE THERE! Upon checking out, we did not get any discount for that. They were supposed to send a maintenance person and that maintenance person never showed up to fix it. 5) There was also no microwave, but there was a teeny tiny refrigerator that barely worked. 6) Barely any place to hang your clothes. Two drawers to put your clothes in and one drawer, where the nightstand was so again we had to keep things in our luggage. 7) There were a total of two outlets that we could use to either charge our items or plug-in something that we needed. 8) As well as, for Santa Barbara we were expecting hotels to be expensive, and we understood that this place was going to be expensive as well. But this place was completely overpriced for what we received. We will never be back. read more

This was my second visit to Santa Barbara this year and stayed at The Riviera Beach House on State Street. We stayed at the Riviera Beach House for five days and four nights. The great thing is that it's located close to the Funk Zone which allowed us to walk to different restaurants and breweries daily. Unfortunately, it's located right next to the train tracks which makes for very noisy nights. The worst part is the entire design of the room. I understand it's a boutique hotel, but the rooms were so compact it was making me feel claustrophobic. The bathroom door is situated right next to the bed, which wouldn't be a problem if the door wasn't glass. Who designed that?!? Why would anyone want a transparent bathroom door??? The rooms include the most miniature mini fridge I've ever used and do not allow users to adjust the temperature. My last complaint is about an Amazon purchase that was delivered to the hotel. The lady at the front desk refused to sign or accept my package for no apparent reason. My delivery guy went to my room and apologized profusely for coming straight to my door and explained how the front desk wouldn't accept my package. We plan to return to Santa Barbara towards the end of the year. We definitely won't make the mistake of staying at this hotel again. read more

I enjoyed my stay at the Riviera Beach House for the location and convenience. It was very clean and they have a nice comfortable lobby with cucumber water. I was helped right away when wanting to check in and I appreciated the prompt help. At one point, I needed scissors which they let me use and additionally they let me leave a fob for another guest to come in at a different time for a separate check in instead of making me take both which was helpful. Attendants and staff are awesome. I had overall a pleasurable stay. At check out, I was not made aware they charged for parking and valet associated with the hotel. They took off one night of parking which I appreciated. Most hotels have a free lot for guests, but I'm assuming they don't since it is state street. Rooms were clean and service was helpful when I made requests for items like extra towels or blankets. When using the shower, it had one glass door and a curtain and the water kept going out of the shower and onto the bathroom floor. Also, being that I was there for a wedding a full length mirror would have been nice as well as an iron. If you stay here, you will not have these amenities. If you get a good price on a room, it is worth it even with these inconveniences. read more

I give the Riviera Beach House four stars for the friendliness of their staff, the constant supply of coffee, fresh water and apples in the lobby :) The lobby itself was lovely with its modern and comfortable seatings and available games for all. Yes, the rooms are quite small as have been mentioned in the reviews here, so am not going to make my review so much about that as much as tips on when you stay there. If you are traveling solo, not carrying much luggage, maybe just an overnight bag, you do not plan on staying more than 2 nights, then yes this place is charming. It's actually quite impressive how every inch of the space was efficiently designed! One reviewer here criticized the fact there was no gym on site, specifically a treadmill. I was reading that review and thought to myself "did that person not step outside of the hotel and notice the building's proximity to the beautiful trail along the ocean that they could have ran every day they were there????" Who needs a treadmill when the ocean trails are within a few yards away. Anyway, the place is cute, so close to everything, and yes rooms are quite small but that doesn't qualify it for lower ratings. The staff is friendly, the place is clean and safe! My wife and I have stayed at the Riviera Beach House in Santa Barbara before and had a decent experience, but this year's trip in March was shocking and deeply disappointing. On one of our nights, around 10 PM, the room next door was hosting a loud party. As we were trying to sleep, I heard someone fiddling with our door. Luckily, I had latched it -- but to my horror, the door still opened 5-6 inches and a drunk girl peered inside, making eye contact with me while my wife and I were in bed. She had been given a working access card to our room by the front desk. When I called down to report it, the employee admitted she had accidentally given one of the party guests a key to our room. I asked her directly if she had asked for ID or cross-referenced the last name with the room before making the card. Her answer: No. She simply handed out an access card without verifying anything. That means the hotel knowingly allowed a late-night party with non-guests, and even worse, handed out keys without the most basic security checks. This is a major breach of safety. I raised this with management. June Kuglin apologized and offered me a certificate for a free night. I told her I thought two nights was more appropriate given how unsafe and violated we felt, but regardless, she promised me a certificate. Months later, after multiple follow-ups, nothing has been honored. I've been ghosted. Not only was our personal space compromised, but we were left awake until very late due to a party the staff openly admitted to knowing about. And then management failed to deliver on even a token gesture of compensation. Bottom line: If you care about safety, professionalism, or reliable management, avoid this hotel. The experience was disturbing, unacceptable, and handled with a complete lack of integrity. read more

This place is not the move. This I can assure you. Stayed here and the room didn't get cleaned once in 3 days. No new towels or fresh sheets. Bed wasn't made once. Tv was broken. The whole time I was there didn't see any other customer and hardly any staff member. The woman at the front desk was very kind, helpful and responsive - shoutout to her as the one positive. At night, there were two dudes working who looked like they were 15 years old and wandering around the building - not helpful, seemed weird and no idea what they were doing. The room was right next to the parking lot and every morning was woken up to a mix of different noises (garbage, construction, trains, etc.) at odd hours. Santa Barbara is a money spot. The Riviera Beach house is not. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. read more

The location was convenient but that was about it. Room was tiny, internet didn't work, refrigerator didn't work and the entire hotel was so loud. Doors slamming every few minutes and people shouting down the halls - one of them being from the hotel. And it's right next to the train. This is our ready room..... where we offered a different room, a discount for the lack of doing a cleaning job? NO. Just a.....I'm sorry we will clean it. This was a special getaway for us. Not a place I'll stay in again. There are no amenities at all. The room is so small that the bed essentially takes up the entire space. There isn't even a closet to hang up clothes. Definitely don't stay here with another person. There is no place to work out/run - not even a treadmill. The bathroom is so small that the door from the shower hits the toilet. There's also no elevator so don't bring heavy bags. This place reminds me more of a college dorm than a hotel. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because it's at least clean and quiet. read more

I am giving this hotel 5-stars for the attentiveness and high quality customer service of the staff and general manager, who consistently went out of their way to be helpful. I stayed here for 3 days on a business trip (T,W,Th, checking out Friday morning), staying in their Standard King room. It's also earning my 5 stars for location, location, location, and the lobby decor, decor, decor! Vibe+ So fabulous - started off my day in a great mood as I enjoyed their 24/7 fresh fruit and ice cold cucumber/lemon water (which was WOW!! refreshing...) in their lobby. Yes, they know the room, shower/bathroom, and "closet" is tiny, tiny, tiny (this hotel used to be a hostel), they know how close they are to Amtrak (although highly sensitive to noise, I slept through whistles and didn't realize the station was so close until I checked out), and they know a restaurant is directly below a few of the rooms (restaurant conversation/street noise went completely silent when the restaurant closed at 10:00pm). Riviera Beach House staff worked hard to make up for what they cannot control. Completely handled my luggage on their dumbwaiter (fine with me - I didn't have to schlep my heavy suitcase up two flights of stairs). Wanting to extend my stay by one day, they were booked. Until I could check into my next place on Friday (which was a 5-hour "gap" in time), the Riviera Beach House General Manager held my luggage in her secure conference room, invited me to relax in her lobby area (and drink more of her refreshing ice cold water!), use her library (a separate, quiet room with door/curtains) for my computer-based work (this was a work day for me - Friday), made sure I had walking directions to my next place (also on State Street), and kept my Riviera FOB card working the entire 5 hours, including the last 20 minutes for the transition of my luggage, technology, backpack, coat, and purse from Riviera over my next place. In this day and age, who provides this level of service and care anymore? Riviera Beach House, that's who. Thank you, to the General Manager to all of the staff at the Riviera Beach House! read more

The staff are beyond friendly, I felt safe having my dogs there, and the location is perfect!! Walking distance to the beach and to the funk zone. The hotel has a really nice location. Walking distance to all places in Santa Barbara downtown. When you enter the hotel, the place itself has a cute vibe. However there are no elevators here, and there is dumb waiter to get your luggage upstairs. It was a bit awkward to handle. The rooms were far smaller than we were expecting. It is a quite small space. Also the valet was expensive here, around 48$ per night. There was public parking right opposite the hotel , that wasn't any cheaper though. Max charge was 48$ there as well. We were able to find some street parking on the following nights. read more

Our story- We were suppose to stay here for a night for our anniversary. But due to unfortunate emergency events that we couldn't control. We weren't able to make it. I contacted the hotel immediately the night before to see if we were able to get a credit so we can come back another time. I was told to contact the manager on Tuesday (6/3). The person I spoke to told me I needed to contact Expedia or whoever I booked the reservation. So that's what I did. We got the same response with the reservation agent. They denied a credit/refund. So they got free money. We had 2 emergencies. I had to take my dog to the emergency vet and h the e following day my dad ended up in the emergency room. It's really bad business to not sympathize with people/customers and offer a credit for what they have earned. We understand if we don't get a refund, but a credit back to the hotel would be fine. We didn't receive anything... which is the cherry on the top. I have papers to prove the emergencies... but I guess that doesn't matter. I wouldn't recommend staying here. read more

I totally fell in love with this beautiful quaint hotel. It was a I minute walk from the Amtrak station. From check in to check out, everyone was very accommodating. The rooms were small but beautifully designed. The entire hotel was fabulous. There was a Mexican restaurant next door that had great drinks and delicious food. Across the street was a Starbucks, bakery and a wonderful breakfast/brunch cafe. That night we ate a wonderful dinner at a seafood restaurant near the beach. Then later that night walked downtown and checked out the local bars and sscenery. I fell in love with this town and plan to stay there again but for a longer stay. It's a little pricey but definitely worth it. You actually save money by not having to Uber because a lot of what you may want to see is within walking distance. read more

This is a chic historic boutique hotel right on State St in downtown Santa Barbara. Beautiful lobby filled with art. They are pet friendly. However the rooms are micro tiny and there is no elevator. The valet/bellboy has the unenviable task of schlepping your luggage to a dumb waiter elevator. The rooms are uncomfortable small. Might be ok for a couple on a romantic weekend but sis not meet our need with 2 dogs. The 1st floor rooms have a patio. That was not availabe to us even though that was what we booked and were expecting. Nice property but not for me. Sorry. read more

We stayed at the Riviera Beach House for one night on our trip to California this month when he drove from LA to SF. The best thing about it? The location! You can walk to so much in Santa Barbara (wine tastings, restaurants, the beach, downtown Santa Barbara)! The hotel lobby was undergoing some renovations, so it's not much right now (I hope it'll look great soon), but the staff at the check in desk were really nice. There isn't an elevator in the hotel (just one large enough for luggage) - FYI for those with mobility issues or accessibility needs. The room was nice, comfortable. The parking is valet (I think $48/night), which was pricey but not unexpected given where the hotel is. The room and bathroom were nice. Overall, a nice place to stay that will be nicer when the construction in the lobby is completed! read more

This is a small boutique hotel - we booked here for an overnight stay on a road trip to LA and Joshua Tree right before it was rebranded as Riviera Beach House (used to be Indigo Hotel, part of the IHG conglomerate). The rooms are tiny and not very spacious. If you've been to a Japanese business hotel - it's about that size. What's really nice is the location and beddings - it's just a few blocks away from the wharf / beach and the bed is super comfy. Accessible to all of the nearby restaurants. Oh, parking was funky as well - the valet onsite is like $45 per night but you can park in an offsite lot that's 2 blocks away for $20. If you are just looking to crash for a couple nights - this is not a bad place to stay. read more

Don't let the pictures fool you. You're paying for location location location. Yes this is pet friendly but walls were very thin. You can hear every pet in the "motel" which means your pet can too. Bathrooms are more like hostil bathrooms if you've ever backpacked. Don't go for the upgraded they are not worth it. I went for a quick baby moon with our pup to be near the beach and i called ahead to ask for a room with a tub which they don't have by the way. The girl on the phone was misinformed. Ended up not going to the room unless we absolutely had to. The outdoor patio space that was part of the most deluxe room they had we were not able to use because the smell of tar( 8 months prego shouldn't inhale tar and paying to do it). Btw "the smell of tar is inevitable " according to the email I received after I tried to get a reduction on the room for all this mishaps. Good spot if you're young and gonna bar hop and can sleep through the dog barking. Not a place for kids or families. Verrrrrrrey small rooms and we stayed in the nicest one. read more

It's a 3 star hotel - what're ya expecting! The rooms have what you need, but they are on the smaller side. If I had to guess, my room was around 150 sq ft. Barely fits the bed, a few hangers for jackets and things. Bathroom is tiny. There's (finicky) AC in case it's a hot month. Upon checking into our room we were struck by the smell of mold. The room was so musty and moldy smelling that I approached the front desk to let them know of my concerns. The GM was nice and showed me another room, same problem. She said it is because the building is so old and due to the moisture in the air it's normal. We tried to stay and within 30 minutes my nose was stuffy, my eyes and throat irritated. I couldn't bare it. We left the hotel and they did give us our money back with an apology, but this should really be noted up front because we went to another hotel and it did not smell like that at all. read more

Oh boy. This one is hard. I'll start off first with the staff. The staff was wonderful, kind, helpful and informative. They were great. Valet: Valet is a third party company. It's also $48 a night. There is really no point for them. So the building has a parking lot next to it. Maybe has 15 spots total. Valet did not even park our car. All they do is hold on to your keys "in case they need to re-arrange the cars to make room for a bigger car." Valet informed us that if they weren't there, to ask the front desk for our keys. There were one or two times where we asked the front desk for our keys upon learning the valet wasn't there, and the staff wasn't informed that they were missing, so they had to hunt down the valet person. Idk where that person went, but oh well... The hotel might as well just charge their guest $50 to park there on their own, install a blink camera for security and pocket the money themselves because it is a joke. Now overall ownership. Ownership has failed this location. First off, they are totally taking advantage of the whole "Covid inflation" but what they are offering is no where near what others are offering. The rooms are barely big enough to fit a queen bed. There is no room in the closet because there is a kerraig in there instead. There is a tiny desk and shower that folds out because it is too small to just install a wall. Our room was $250 for a Monday night. On the other hand there is a hotel across the street with normal size rooms. The night before we stayed in a hotel in Beverly Hills that was 6 times the size of this room and I am not exaggerating. It was the same price as this place for a Friday and Saturday night. The owner either needs to charge less for what they have which is location and that is it. Or, they can charge what they are charging or maybe even more if they knock down the wall between every other bedroom and take out one of the bathrooms to make 1 normal size room. Overall, this place is a scam. But again, it has nothing to do with the staff. It is so obvious their hands are tied and they are doing everything in their power to make the best of the situation for their guests. But ownership has really done every single person involved a disservice. read more

If you're looking for quiet or to relax this is not your spot. The attached restaurant has great food but loud music till 11 pm and the train is so close. Our room also wasn't cleaned and once we brought it up we were told it would be handled first thing in the morning. We left at 7am came back at 11am and nothing left again notifying them for the third time. We arrived back at 1:30 again nothing. Called Travelocity as service was very poor. Left this morning and a couple overheard us talking to the counter staff and validated our same concerns. read more

Upon entering the lobby, the hotel is beautifully decorated with a bright beachy theme - ready for photo ops in every angle. We found the front being handled by a single staff member who was very friendly and helpful. Be aware that this is a dog-friendly hotel, most guests including ourselves had brought along their pets. It was a nice welcome to be gifted a doggie bag filled with treats, poop bags, and even a toy. Valet was full on the day we checked in so we had to park in a lot located a few blocks out. Although it's a fenced lot, there is no security presence - yet it's still $30 to park there. Our room was located on the second floor. There is no elevator, but there is a dummy lift only for transporting large luggage. The room and bathroom was much smaller than anticipated, but nonetheless it was clean and stocked with basic amenities. Our room came with an issue, there was no power to the TV, phone, coffee maker, and any outlets to half of the room. The poor staff member who was the only one working tried to resolve our power issue on his own, but to no success. We couldn't switch to another room either because everything was booked that night. The kind staff said he'll leave a note for the GM to contact me to make up for the inconvenience. A week went by and no call, so I decided to call the hotel. I got in touch with the GM - June, who advised me to send her an email so that I can receive a voucher to make up the unfortunate stay. So I did, and with no initial response I followed up two more time via email - still no response. I called the hotel again to reach June, to which another staff reported that she had to jump into a meeting and will call me back. It's been two weeks since then and I still have not heard back from June. I was ready to give this hotel another chance, but the lack of response from the GM has been thinking otherwise. read more

Moxi museum next door if you plan to bring kids, and tons of food and wine bars nearby. All walking distance! And it's a short walk to the beach! Rooms remind me of staterooms on a cruise ship as far as size. So book solo if you aren't traveling with someone you are really comfortable with. Please keep the location and room size in mind before booking.. depending on your travel reasons this may not be the place for you. Valet is $48 and they allow in and outs. Bed and pillows are clean and comfy. They have robes, keurigs, and offer fruits and filtered water. Didn't get the kind woman's name at front desk but she gave great recommendations and some deals with nearby wineries. So don't hesitate to ask. I will be back! read more

Highly recommend staying here! I visited with my two dogs and they were so incredibly accommodating! Very centrally located, within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, shopping and the beach. Our room was great, it was really thoughtfully designed and everything was functional. The bathroom was great, loved that the counters had plenty of space to set all of my products. Our room had a patio which was amazing for taking the dogs out. Thoughtful touches everywhere from a sunscreen dispenser in the lobby to beach cruiser rentals on site. The rooftop decks were perfect for getting some work done while on vacation, and the art gallery was a really unique addition to the hotel! The best part of our stay was the staff! Service was excellent. Jennie took care of everything we needed for my bf's birthday weekend. The location is perfect- central to all the restaurants on state street but also a quick walk to the beach. The rooms may be a bit smaller but we got a room with a garden view and it was perfect for us as a couple. read more

The Riviera Beach House is a smaller boutique hotel. The location is really great, it is a short walk to the beach, pier and downtown area. Our room was perfect, clean, quiet and comfortable. It is not largest room, but the space was more the adequate. The hotel staff was also very friendly and helpful. We used their offsite parking for $20.00. There is also a great restaurant next door. We would definitely stay here again when visiting SB. read more

This hotel has obviously seen an overhaul or major renovation since the Muppets ran it decades ago. And while the rooms are so small they make my ass look big (It's like putting on spandex), I can't wait to come back. The place was immaculate, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the staff was SO nice. I gush but they deserve it. I took the train up from LA, two hours, and it dropped me off like an UBER at the front door. The hotel is right in the middle of all the good stuff; on State Street, two blocks from the Warf. The room I was in had its own little garden/patio and it was so relaxing and quiet. I will be returning as soon as I get a couple of days off back-to-back or even for an overnighter. I have already recommended it to friends. (Full disclosure; my first night of three that I was in Santa Barbara I got food poisoning at a nearby Barbeque place. That review is coming. But I was sequestered to my room for 48 hours or so which might have colored my review on the size of the room. Well, that and the fact I'm a large fella.) read more
