Our experience: a bad dorm room. The shower tiles had mold all over, the bathroom had a persistent urine odor, the room walls offered ZERO sound insulation...we heard every step, thump, people passing the room, carts rolling the paths outside, etc., the room had noticeable dust, cobwebs, and aging carpet. The only blessing was, we were only there one night.

This is the oldest hotel still operational in soCal apparently. How cool! Stayed here for one night when seeing a show at the SB Bowl. I loved the charm and quaintness and its history was not lost on me. Room was large with plenty of space for two people and a nice, walk in closet. Beds were very comfortable. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend staying here!

This is absolutely one of the cutest hotels I've stayed at. When I originally booked my stay I was not completely sure how the hotel looked because there were not a lot of pictures. We stayed in individual little "cottage" like rooms that were so cute and had their own little small patio area and own private entrance. The hotel is one street over from State St for convenience! Our room had a mini fridge and although the room is small there is plenty of space for everything. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel also has free wifi. There is plenty of parking and we were able to get a spot right next to our room although all spots are not far apart. I really liked that the bathroom had drawers to organize my things and I loved the vanity area with the huge mirror. When we walked in we were greeted and shown around the hotel for easy accommodation. You are also handed a map so you do not get lost. They also have a wine happy hour which I wish we could have gone to but maybe for next time. Each area also has cute little cottage names! I loved my stay!

Maybe blow off the patio so it can be used.

The Upham is a classic vintage hotel. However, very limited parking. We had to park a quarter of a mile away. The grounds are very nice but our patio sitting are was messy and completely unusable. The restaurant which was an Upham highlight is closed. I think I will check out a different hotel next time.

We love the Upham! My family has been staying with the Upham for various occasions over the years, I spent my 30th birthday with my best friend at the Upham, so it was fitting my fiancé and I chose the Upham for our wedding weekend. We rented multiple rooms for us and our family. It was wonderful and feels like a home away from home. The grounds are beautiful and it's very close to everything. Staying here made our wedding weekend feel extra special and extravagant and we can't wait to come back for our anniversaries the only thing we hope for is that they bring back the cheese for their happy hour and their breakfast, That was always a nice touch!

It's in a great location. Courtyard is lovely. Facilities are nice but our room did show its age, wear & tear. Bed wasn't awful but not comfortable. In the room & online they promise a basket of goodies & a bottle of wine but they don't actually offer it. The front desk blames corporate. Breakfast has a very small selection- fine if you eat muffins but difficult if you are gluten free or like protein in the morning. Towels scratchy & thin. No conditioner just shampoo in the bathroom. Front desk not really friendly or welcoming.

We stayed for a few days here. My overall experience here was just ok. The grounds are beautiful and the original hotel is very charming. The rooms are clean and somewhat comfortable. The website says the beds are plush and cozy. While the room was cozy the bed was hard and the pillows had seen better days. The sink had a crack in it that made me feel unsafe. The kurig was dirty inside so we didn't use it . There are a lot of little things that need just some care and attention. The light on my patio didn't work and was hanging. My sister said her toilet in her room was wobbly! The restaurant on site was a very nice experience. The food was amazing. The wait staff maybe need a little polish with their skills . The service was slow and that appetizer came out after our meal was done and had to be asked for. I probably would not go back unless these things would improve

Our son was getting married in Santa Barbara, so family booked rooms here and we hosted the pre Wedding party in the Garden Room. Anissa Moritz helped us plan a wonderful event and the rooms were all beautiful. Thank you for making our wedding weekend memorable.

Do you want a good nights sleep? Don't stay here! Do you want old rooms that creek with every step and stained mattresses with rude front desk associates (Ramon)? Then Stay here! We travelled a few hours to stay here as it was our first time in Santa Barbara. We called about 10 min before arriving to our hotel to ask about our room availability and if we can drop off our luggage. We were met with the worst attitude by a front desk clerk named Ramon. He told us that he can't tell us if the rooms are ready and that we have to be here physically in order for him to tell us. Once arrived 10 min later, he was very happy to tell us that the room was not ready (big shocker as his attitude over the phone made him seem upset and very rude we already expected it not to be). I asked why he couldn't tell us if the room was ready and he started saying that people tell him that they are close by and end up coming way later. If that was the case wouldn't you ask us when we are arriving? Or emphasised that you don't want to have the room sitting for hours? Weird. Once we met him in person he was very very short, told us he would call us when our room was ready-- which ended up being almost 4 hours later. We get the text our room is ready and we head over. Immediately you are met with an Odor that is attached to the foundation of the hotel, smells like wet wood or kind of like mold. Ramon-- I hope you get the help you need and find a place where you want to work. It is very apparent that you are not the customer service assistant, or face, that should be checking people in or even taking phone calls.

This 150+ year old charmer in downtown Santa Barbara was reasonably priced (compared to others in the Summer) and close enough to walk to State Street, but far enough to have quiet time. They offer free parking for guests on site, provides a small continental breakfast in the mornings, local wine hour in the evening and wifi. We did not try the restaurant on site but could smell amazing things from outside our room. Although this is not the fanciest of stays, the service and historic feel of the property is really enchanting.

I have a new place that I love - it's The Upham Hotel in SB. I can't wait to go back! I do wish the hotel offered more during breakfast, but the wine from 5pm-7pm was a great perk. Louie's California Bistro right on the premises was a great surprise as well. A close walk to State St and a Starbucks a few blocks down - so it's well placed. I can't wait to stay again.

They have a garage that opens around 8 or 9 AM (they don't open it too early because the garage door is loud for guests) and has free stuff for you to use including beach cruiser bikes, beach lounge chairs, towels, beach toys, umbrellas, and more. The lobby has snacks (granola bars, bananas, orange, etc) that were accessible during their hours (they close at 9) as well as a water machine from which you can fill your aluminum water bottles from your hotel room. I liked how they didn't use plastic trash bags, no plastic bottles, and no plastic soap containers. It seemed that they were really eco-friendly. We interacted with 3 hotel staff members and all were helpful and friendly. They gave us a list of kid-centric things to do. We stayed in unit 8 which had a queen bed and a living room as well as a kitchenette. The kitchen had everything we needed and the tools were clean, new and orderly. The unit was clean as well. The palm trees in the middle of the parking lot are nicely lit at nice. The water pressure in the bathroom was super strong. I liked that the bathroom had a window as well as the kitchen. Some rooms have a small patio door in the back. From our kitchen window we could see plants and flowers. Outside of our room there were cute tables with lots of flowers as well. It's a great location and walking distance to the beach. The bad: We accidentally went a few blocks down from here to Harbor View Inn first and then realized our mistake. Two different hotels! The bathroom is on the small side. The interesting: The parking lot is small so they don't allow big trucks/vans. If you check-out before 7:30 am (like we did) then you will leave your keys in the mailbox out front by their office.

We were upgraded to a suite which was wonderful. The room location was very quite, no noise issues. Plenty of room in the living room, bathroom and bedroom, a lot of charm. The rooms seem very clean and well equipped with a mini refrigerator Nespresso machine and robes. The only item missing oddly in the rooms are hotel luggage racks. We went up to the roof to see the pool, looked nice, it was empty due to the cooler weather temps in Santa Barbara during our stay. We did enjoy the "Wine Happy Hour" and the complementary Coffee station in the morning. There are ice machines on every floor and on the ice machine you can also get filter water for your water bottles. To note: it is a dog loving paradise at the hotel, dogs everywhere, big dogs little dogs, I love dogs so I had fun watching all of them. OK, so our only 2 criticisms are is the fee for parking per day $55... crazy! The second criticism is why can't the hotel spare space for a small gym? Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly and that always gets extra stars from me. They don't charge any pet fee or have size restrictions and if you ask them, they will provide food and water bowls for your stay. As someone who always travels with her dog, that adds a lot of value for me. This location even told me that, while I couldn't bring the dog to the restaurant on site, I could bring her to the nightly wine reception. I did not ever end up attending one but it's the thought that counts. The location was great. It was about a 15-minute walk to beach and we did walk to Stearns Wharf multiple times during our stay. It typically took us about 10 minutes to walk to one of the many restaurants in the area that we had decided to go to each time. There are lots of coffee shops, wine bars and places to eat within walking distance so we ended up leaving our car parked for most of our stay. I believe the valet parking was an additional $50 or $60 a night but you do get in and out privileges. We just found that we didn't need the car much to get around on our visit and in the time it takes to have somebody pull it out for you, you could have already walked halfway to your destination. The amenities are nice. They have a rooftop pool, fitness center and then their complimentary coffee, etc. I did not end up taking advantage of any of those because I travel with my dog, so I can't speak directly to the quality of any of them, but I know most people appreciate having extras like that. Our room was cute and comfortable and felt very cozy. It was honestly probably smaller than I expected for the price point, but it had everything that we needed and I was happy with my stay. If you need a pet friendly, walkable place to stay, and you aren't on a super tight budget, I would definitely recommend looking into this hotel.

Perfect anniversary stay -- peaceful, friendly, and right on the beach…read more We stayed at Santa Barbara Inn for our 25th anniversary and paid for the beachside view. It was absolutely worth it. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and what really stood out was their text-based concierge system. They text you before arrival, and you can ask for anything during your stay -- they respond quickly and clearly. Honestly, that alone made the stay feel effortless. They even had the car ready before we got downstairs. It felt like having a pocket concierge. The view was fantastic, noise levels were low, and the beach is literally across the street, right at a crosswalk. We spent a lot of time on the balcony -- the room was large, the patio was generously sized, and we loved reading out there with the sounds of birds and seals in the background. Beds were very comfortable, the bathroom had great water pressure, and the jetted tub was basically a sauna -- a huge plus after walking all day. Free water bottles in the room were also appreciated. We ate at Convivo onsite -- it was fine, solid food, but a bit pedestrian flavor-wise. That said, there are so many excellent places to eat in Santa Barbara, and we walked to several without any trouble. Very walkable area for both beach time and dining. For car lovers: there's constant classic car and hot rod cruising along the beach, which was fun to watch from the balcony. It's not cheap, but it's reasonable for the location, room size, and level of service. But only stayed one night for the wedding. The other nights that we stayed were at another hotel in Santa Barbara. This Hilton hotel I'm giving one star more than the other because it is a Hilton. 1) Completely out dated. It looks like it's something out of the 90s. They can at least buy new furniture. The carpets smell. Everything smells very musty and old. The front desk when you check in is very small. We actually walked right by it because we didn't even see it. It was that small. For such a big hotel you would think that they would have a bigger front desk for their guest to check in and out of. For this to be a Hilton, they need to spend more money on renovation. 2) We could only stay one night because of how expensive it was. We were expecting a lot more for the price. When we entered the room, the linens smelled, and again the carpet smelled very musty. We called the front desk. It took them forever to answer the phone and when they did, they had an attitude about changing the linens. It took two hours for them to come to our room to change out the linens thank God they did because the second set of linens did not smell. 3) The staff all over the hotel were completely rude and aggressive. It didn't matter what department they were in. If this was a rundown Motel 6, then that would be one thing, but it was a Hilton in Santa Barbara facing the ocean. 4) When it came time for the wedding it felt great. It felt organized. I'm not sure if that was the Hilton staff or not. but I know that the catering was the Hilton and that was not organized and that staff was horrible and aggressive. For instance, taking your food while you're still eating. And giving you attitude if you say that you're still eating your dinner. 5) When it came time to use the downstairs restroom my wife stated that the downstairs restroom was filthy, and there was paper towels all over the ground. 6) Which brings me to my next point, this Hilton Hotel felt very understaffed. I could keep going, but the point is that my wife and I do love the Hilton family hotels, but this place is not the best Hilton out there. We will not be back.
