When I went into exam room, Jennna took my history and asked questions about my dental problem. Her manner also put me at ease. Meeting Dr Zatzkin was next... he listened to my long complicated history and I mean he really listened. I liked him immediately. And Dr. Z ensures that you know what to do for proper aftercare, leaving nothing to nothing to chance. His post-procedure call to check up on me that evening was the icing on the that cake. This won't be the first rave review I've written about Dr. Zatzkin and his office--just the latest since I began my long journey to better gum health well over a decade back, including implants, a first gum graft and pinhole gum surgery he's qualified to perform, which was both successful and virtually a cakewalk thanks to his mastery of the procedure. Hey, it's not an exciting topic, but I think of Dr. Z's expertise and good nature as symbolic of something grander in terms of my having complete confidence in his skills in a world where most of us find our confidence in services severely lagging. To say it best, I'll echo a letter I read in his office from another loyal, satisfied patient, which says, "Thank you for making my gum repairs enjoyable." Yes, the words "gum repairs" and "enjoyable" may sound oxymoronic, but between the terrific, helpful staff--five stars to all, the above-mentioned Quaneesha; Dana, my fave hygienist; Rachel, who got my insurance info processed and approved (hallelujah!); and Krystal at the front desk, whose calm, helpful presence is so welcome-- and the doctor's firm handshake and warm smile whenever I visit, it's the single most enjoyable gum-repair experience from Timbuktu to Portland, Maine--or Portland, Oregon, for that matter! Something that stuck out to me on the new patient paperwork was questions about being afraid of the dentist or having bad past experiences. The fact that they cared about that kind of thing made me immediately feel at ease and I knew I made the right decision to switch. They tell you everything you need to know about your teeth and gum health, and the work you need to get done, at home care, but I never find them to be judgmental or preach-y. The tens of thousands of dollars I spent for implants have to be redone. What he promised and I paid for is not what he did or provided. I went to two different dentist and they both confirmed in writing that the work he did was improper spelling out what was done wrong and what he provided had a two year life span not as Sukamar claimed would last a lifetime. At this point now that I have to have the work completely redone and pay a lot of money again in just two years due to a complete failure of the work he did. Now I have to get a lawyer involved and pursue reimbursement for the malpractice. Glad I kept all the paperwork work along with his handwritten notes etc. looks like I'll need them.

I've never really felt that compelled to make the switch from a regular to an electric tooth brush, but now I think I'm convinced. Overall, this is an office that has really got their stuff together. They have a really organized appointment reminder system and send frequent text/email/call reminders during the days leading up to your appointment. They also never let you leave empty handed and always give out a really cute goodie bag with a bunch of tooth care stuff in it. The dentist I saw--never the same one twice--told me I needed 3 (!) extractions and would have to have a "flapper"--but don't worry, I'd get used to it. Dr. Silver examined my mouth, looked at the x-rays, and said I needed two root canals and no extractions. Not great, but I questioned why the other clinic hadn't detected anything six months ago when I got x-rayed. He said I was right to question what the other dentist had said; keeping my teeth is a priority of mine. In the words of Frank Zappa, "Always get a second opinion."
