It was really a personal preference, as stated below. The instructor/guide, Peggy, was great! She was knowledgeable, helpful, funny, and catered the class to us (all 2 of us! well, 3 if you count my service dog!) What I got out of it? I got a lot of practice on my paddling. Peggy was great in making me learn my body the whats and whys of what I was doing wrong, which, is a much better way of learning than just being told. She guided me to the answer, but I still had to figure it out, which I did, and I now am more able to correct my own errors. Whenever there is a disabled person is a class, and one with a service dog, it can stress others out. Peggy handled it like a pro - as if she dealt with this all the time (and I know she doesn't!) It was welcoming and comforting to know how well we were going to be taken care of. So why did I give it 4 stars and not 5? Completely, 100%, subjective opinion. Boring. This is not a route I would take on my own, nor would I take the class again, mainly because there isn't a whole lot to see. For working on kayaking skills it's a 5/5. Making it an exciting adventure, a 4/5. This has nothing to do with the instructor (she did a great job, and I learned about the island, about wire dams, etc). It's more that it is just not something I would want to repeat. Would I recommend it? Yes! it is a great class after the beginner skills class, because you really have to work on all of the skills. Overall, Alder Creek has been great to work with and I can't wait for my next class (in 2 weeks!)

My friends and I spent the morning looking for a place to rent a kayak and we came across their business on yelp. The business is located right in the owner's (I'm guessing) front lawn and street parking wasn't an issue. $120 for a kayak for the day and it comes with life jackets and paddles. We were able to bring our dog along too! So it was me, my boyfriend, and our dog in the kayak while my friends used their own raft. He took a pictures of our IDs only, NOT our credit card, and he had us sign some forms for liability. I wish I remembered his name, but we had zero issues with him or the kayak. He came off very nice and hospitable. A tad eccentric, but you can tell he loved what he did. He rolled the kayak straight to the Columbia river himself, which from his house, was just down the street! What I don't understand is how he got the kayak down to the river and back cause there's a fairly steep drop from the trail to get to the river. It's totally doable for you and me, who don't have a big item like that to bring down but it can get tricky if you're carrying a lot of things with you. There's a climbing rope on the side to make the climb easier. Overall, a great experience! He told us to text him when we were done so he could come back to the river and bring back all the rentals himself -- and he did. So again, just very confused by the 1 star reviews. To us, he was very positive, kind, and accountable throughout our whole interaction. I would definitely come back here again whenever we're in the area! P.S. Be careful parking your car right next to the trail that leads to the river. We were told that people come back to their car being broken into!

Our instructors were Rose and Margot; both were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and patient! They even helped me when I fell into the water (yeah, I'm not embarrassed to admit it... I totally fell in the water, haha!). It was totally my fault but both were quick to help me and they did such a great job not making me feel bad about it. Helpful Tips: * If you're taking a class, know that the kayak, the paddle and the life vest are provided. * If you plan to bring your phone with you on the kayak, make sure to bring an airtight bag to keep your phone in it. We had one already but I saw that they sold them in their store, too! Oh, and it's worth mentioning... the company was very understanding even though we arrived five minutes late (our GPS turned us around and we got lost heading to the class). when I picked up a log splitter the experience was good. the price was good. I picked it up right…read morebefore they closed for an early start in the morning. when looked over the splitter before leaving there is a pin that holds the splitter in place for travel. the keeper that keeps the pin in place could not be the original. on the way home the fastener that keeps the keeper in place came off causing the splitter to stand up while driving. I stopped I fixed. the Splitter worked ok. When I returned the splitter I let the guy behind the counter was very rude especially when I told him about the pin coming loose. He said they never had a problem before. I told him that there was no way it was the OEM locking system. He irritated that they never had a problem. on my way out I looked at another splitter that was the same and it had another jury rigged keeper but different. The hours of operation is another reason I will never use them again. I went there because the cost was cheaper than Home Depot. They close much earlier this means the cost is much more over all because operating hours. Home Depot 125.00. Johnson Creek rentals 175.00 advertised price less but it costs more and equipment is old and safety of equipment is not a concern judging by the person that checked me out. I was hoping to use a smaller more local company when I went to Johnson Creek rental.

When my partner let the driver know that he needed to be able to exit the driveway to get to work, the driver just told him to wait. At this point, the driver had not yet loaded up the piece of machinery he was there to move, and could have easily moved his truck forward or further over so it didn't block the only active driveway on the street. Instead, he refused to move his truck and proceeded to continue to block the driveway for half an hour, even when my partner made it clear that waiting would make him late to work. I called dispatch at that point and they were polite but completely unhelpful. They said they called the driver, who didn't pick up, and left a message. Then they told me there's nothing else they can do. So this driver gets no reprimand at all for this irresponsible and unprofessional behavior? Shameful.

You can take the tubes wherever you want which is nice. They're super easy to blow up and have a mesh bottom to hold your belongings close by/shield your bum from rocks. He gave us a hand pump to use to blow them up when we arrive at our location. Drop off was just as easy, we texted him when we were 5 minutes away and he came outside when we needed to drop off! Would definitely rent from him again if we are ever in the area!

We rented six tubes from Bryan on the Fourth of July. I thought we were going to be an hour early…read morepicking them up than we scheduled. I called Bryan and he was totally fine with us being early. It ended up taking us an hour longer than we thought to drop our car off at Barton Park. But Bryan was waiting for us when we got there. The process was very easy and fast. He had everything ready for us and offered us life jackets since we didn't have quite enough for our group. The tubes were a lot of fun and held up, even going over some parts that were shallow and rocky. We will rent from Bryan again if we float the river again. Great experience!
