I had the opportunity to do some media coverage for my school news during the INDYCAR XPEL Grand Prix. I didn't realize how HUGE this place was going to be until a few days before and was nervous when I found out there were no golf carts left for purchase. What a cool place! I live in Indianapolis, home of the Indianapolis 500, so visiting Road America while I was in the Elkhart Lake area was like seeing a little bit of home. There are races here in the summer months that you can spectate, and you can also race around the track yourself in go karts. You can bring your own food and picnic, and there are even camping spots on the grounds if you wanted to spend the night or weekend. I visited to do some ATV driving around the area. The ATV trail goes all around the property and is pretty adventurous at some points! I know for sure I screamed and cussed during my drive. Afterward, I visited the gift shop, which is huge and has all kinds of gifts and racing paraphernalia. It's a great place to find gifts for the racing or car lover in your life. read more

They have a winter driving course that is excellent. I learned about it when I drove by and saw it advertised. I think that this is a class for everybody who drives in hazardous conditions; but it is specially good for new drivers. Road America has so much more than car racing. The value paid for the course was worth it. I'd take this class again to keep polishing my winter driving skills. The staff was great. Highly recommended! Tip: You can call your car insurance and have this class applied towards the insurance. Road America provides certificates. read more

Probably the only outdoor event that I will go to all summer. Due to smaller crowds unlike Milwaukee brewfest, state fair, summerfest and EAA. I brought a mask just in case but everything was pretty much open air. Plymouth / Elkhart lake is a short scenic ride north to picnic or camp or tailgate before the races. Sunday was the main race although people come early and got soaked on Saturday. This location hosts many classes and series of racers. Cart Indy LMP1,2,3 GT1,2,3 GTS GTR MotoGp vintage race. Super truck and NASCAR Will return next year for the 3rd of July weekend. I came out to watch GT World Challenge and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship IMSA Michelin pilot challenge. This is a nice track. Sadly, we had an accident here. We have been told by other riders that a motorcyclist in orange group (aug.) maneuvered in front of my partner on a long stretch of road, then abruptly slammed on their brakes- forcing a collision with my partner's front tire which caused the bike to lose control. It appears that my partner was dragged by his bike and hit a wall. My guy isn't a novice rider, he's been riding this track for the better part of a decade and knows each twist & turn, of this particular track, by heart. Road America was helpful/anticipatory in most aspects; ambulance was at the ready, I was given the address of the destination hospital, security personnel spoke calmly & accompanied me to gather up belongings- assured me that our vehicles/stuff would be OK until I could get back to collect it. Later, I requested video footage of collision. Road America responded that they'd hold video footage for 24 hours before deleting it. I couldn't drive back to obtain footage but requested to be sent one video of the fall that their camera captured. We do not know the identity of the individual who rode recklessly (i.e. not in his own lane or with enough space) that day, or if they will be allowed to ride again. I wish that I had been notified immediately (via cell or dispatcher) that my partner had been in an accident. We both would have liked more details about his fall (what he hit, how long he was unconscious, a replay of how the collision occurred); details that aid in medical treatment (the impact & surgeries were extensive). Instead of being immediately notified, I was sitting with our van & trailer (our designated site), waiting for my guy to return from his most recent ride. I found it odd that the announcer called for the next group of riders and riders from orange group were already returning. I walked around looking for orange group members (who'd been called to a meeting) before spotting an ambulance & another vehicle making their way up the main road. Situations like this are especially traumatic, we feel it could have been handled better- with more streamlining, transparency, & efficiency. Remember, no matter your skill level, you cannot control what riders around you will do- safeguards must be in place to prevent situations like these (where riders do not leave one another space). read more

This is probably (one of) the prettiest raceways in America. It's also very large and hilly. I hate giving 3* but it is not very visitor friendly. Parking is quite a ways away with hills to climb which are fine for the physically able-bodied. If you want to rent a golf cart, it HAD to be for 3 days @ $260 and they wouldn't budge on that! They do have a shuttle but you have to figure that out for yourself and it does NOT take you to the parking lot, and it was more of a scenic tour than anything (Which was nice). There are no refreshments or food on the outside track where the bleachers are. We went on Saturday during the classic motorbike race weekend 2019 and the workers knew nothing about when the different classes of bikes raced and didn't even give you a program upon payment of $35 pp. It was like amateur day! Very sparse areas or places to sit and all in the blazing sun. No water fountains either. Bottom line? Bring your own water, transportation, seating, shade, food and you'll be fine! read more

This review is written from the perspective of a visitor who got to take a sunset cruise on the track with 200 other convertibles as part of the Open Air Tours. It truly was the experience of a lifetime! We arrived in mid afternoon and staff immediately lined us up in formation for our trip around the track, which is famous for "The Kink". It's not oval, it's a challenge of multiple twists, curves and banks in just over 4 miles. From there we were free to explore the grounds, watching others compete in time trials, get a snack, visit the gift shop, all kinds of fun. Mostly we hung out as a group, doing our thing. There were pristine views of the track everywhere and the sound of performance racing engines filled the air. I plunked down some cash in the pro shop and had a blast looking at the cute and clever items. Then I went to the snack shop with other members of the tour and was treated to a fabulous deck overlooking the track. How fun to hang out and watch the goings on! We circled round staff for a driver's meeting where staff gave us a couple of versions of road rules and things to keep in mind as we drove. We took three trips around the track led by two pace cars. The first put all of us on the track, the second all 200 cars were on the track, and the third we were coming off the track. The whole experience took about an hour. With pace cars, the fastest speed we got to was about 50 mph. There were some slow downs. And all of us, being warned that the rumble strips could set off air bags, took the corners carefully. It was nothing short of fantastic. There I was, driving my dearly beloved car, on a bucolic late summer evening in Wisconsin, listening to Aretha Franklin and enjoying the thrill of the drive. Came here in 2006 for a Buell Track day. It was fun, fast, and a bit furious - Not a 55 mph limit ride either....Full throttle. It was great - Never rode so fast in my life. 13 years later I am here for the Vintage Car Races with the Milwaukee Fiat club (Also my first time seeing any race.) It was fantastic! The sound. Still a fan of this track. Again, I just wish they had more maps or explanation of things. We didn't find out about "Canadian corner" (a really awesome spot to watch the race) until there was only about 30 minutes left of our 2+ hour race. Wear comfy shoes for walking because this track is quite long and there are some nice elevation changes here and there. I don't know if there is any seating in the shade. If there is, please let me know as I saw none of it. Bring sunscreen. You'll need it. Menu at the concession stands were a little weird. They were trying to be fancy, while not realizing that they're at a race track. We got ice cream at one concession stand and I honestly wish I had noticed sooner so that I could have sent it back; the top half of the cone was completely broken all the way around. I looked like an animal trying not to get my ice cream all over everything -_- read more

It would be worth going here for literally any event, because it's such a park atmosphere and even during it's most crowded events, you can get some space to yourself. I was at the Cup race and managed to get a good five feet or so away from anyone else. I brought lawn chairs and a cart with a bunch of food and water. There are concessions, but the food there is just okay and the one I was near didn't accept credit cards. Definitely bring your own supplies and treat it as a camp out. You can just go wherever. You can move about during the event if you don't like your first spot or want some variety. There are bleachers in multiple places if you want to pack light. The map on the website shows where the bathroom buildings are, but they brought in a lot of portables so really anywhere is close to one. From where I was, you could hear the radio broadcast, which helped us with knowing what was going on in the parts of the track that you can't see and occasionally get a lap count. At the Cup event, you have to either buy parking or take the shuttle. They do mention this on the website and on the ticket. Speaking of which, I was able to get in the track with no line only an hour before the start, and getting out took maybe 15 minutes. Both much more efficient than I was expecting. There is no reception when you're in such a big crowd out in the country. A wi-fi connection would've helped. I've heard that this is missing at a lot of other tracks too. This is a pretty good place to sit in the grass and be offline for a while. read more

Unfortunately, I've never been to VIR, Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio, or any of the other fantastic US circuits. I have, however, been to the hallowed grounds at Road America. What a phenomenal track. Two years ago, I had the privilege of taking my own car (2001 Z06) out on the track for a HPDE (High Performance Driving Event). It wasn't a race, per se, because we were not being timed, but with around 25 cars on the track per 20 minute session, it was most definitely racing. The track crew did a great job taking care of off-track excursions, car failure, and track prep. The circuit itself has a bit of everything for everyone; long straights, technical sharp corners, a kink, a carousel. The incredibly long straight put me at speeds of ~150 before braking for Turn 1. The second straight away is also long which leads into a sharp left hander and a steep uphill followed by a blind left. The carousel is a long sweeping right, double apex. It then opens up into another long straight, but don't forget to lift at the kink unless you want to end up in the wall. The rest of the circuit is more technical and a bit slower, starting with Canada corner. It's a great mix of technical turns, flat-out speed, and foot-to-the-floor braking. I wish I had more seat time before going to RA, but I'll definitely be back again. It attracts a Nationwide race, American Le Mans, and hopefully one day F1. read more

Road America truly is as good as it gets. I could go on and on about the track itself - which is one of the best road courses in the world - but this review is about the fan experience of visiting the circuit. Track management does a great job bringing a wide variety of world class racing to their facility: open wheel, stock cars, sports cars, motorcycles and more. They also do a fantastic job of creating a true family friendly experience. Kids get in for free with the purchase of an adult general admission ticket. This makes it very cost effective and it allows me to bring my kids along. What better way to create new fans than by making it so easy for them to attend? Also - parking is free. Track management has made numerous upgrades over the years. Bathroom buildings are clean and well maintained and if a physical bathroom is not nearby - there are plenty of mobile restrooms. The track gift shop is great. The food is top notch. It is not typical concession food. Every stand is operated by an outside group and they all have their unique spin on track food. You can get a little of everything and you can always bring in your own food and beverage. There is not any assigned seating, but there are many places to view the action. They have stands around the circuit and they have tons of other view stations - some very rustic - but you will not have a hard time finding a place to watch. Personally, we like setting up on the hill overlooking Turn 5. It's grassy and shady and really a great place to set up shop. It is a big track. There is a lot of walking - so come prepared. Study the track map before you arrive so you know 1) where you want to park and 2) where you want to sit. With a little planning you can minimize how much you have to haul stuff and once you have your spot - you can decide on how much walking you want to do. RA is simply a fantastic place to view a race. read more

I come here for Tough Mudder every year and it's a crazy course layout. I can't speak for any other events. The ease of parking, finding restrooms, and helpfulness of staff really makes me love coming back every year. The track looks great and well-kept so I imagine other events would be fun. If you're coming from the south, the drive is very easy and relaxing. Definitely be prepared to walk around because apparently there are some "hidden gems" that are great viewing areas for races. read more

Great track days. I was there with PCA/Nordstern as I am the Nordstern Chair for Porsche Club Drivers Ed. The track is laid out great and very organized. I even had a tour of the control room while I was there. The food stand offered the usual fare of burgers fries and they were not bad. Stayed at the cabins which were adequate. Be prepared for them to be small, but that's okay since you should be watching the races anyway. Also be aware that they are certainly NOT ADA accessible. I would love to give more stars, but Road America feels that they don't need to return security deposits in a timely manner. It's been over a month since we checked out now and after several phone calls and emails we still haven't had our deposit refunded. It's 2021 people. This isn't that hard and it's making it hard fir me to envision taking my family back here again. read more

Road America kept my money for a 2020 ticket $105.00 because of a COVID travel advisory. Told me I would have to visit in 2021 to honor my ticket no problem I thought I go every year since1970. I go to order my ticket fir the IMSA race weekend and i was told I was notified to purchase by 12/30/20. I was not . I tried reaching out to customer service,track Mgr , Board of Directors. Great event made for picnic-ing and people watching. Plenty of seating areas but not a lot of available shade so keep that in mind. You can bring your own food and drink which is amaze balls but if you do visit the concessions you'll be surprised at the extensive menu depth and reasonable pricing. But the burgers and brisket sandwiches are very underwhelming so try something else. read more

We've camped out a few times during weekends of racing, it's a lot of fun! We've been in an RV once and a ten once, both were good experiences. The campground where our tent was got a little loud at night with some drunk guys, but that's to be expected. Most people around are very nice. Perfect place to spend a spring or summer weekend. Elkhart lake is a lovely town as well. You can take your own car on the track during some weekends. And for a lot of the race weekends they have a Porsche corral which is a lot of fun! We always park our Porsche their and talk to other owners! read more

This place is absolutely amazing! I've been attending races here since I was 6 years old, it gets better every year. There are so many great places to watch from and you can walk through the pits so freely and meet & greet drivers at any given time. Prices have been gradually going up but it's to be expected with all of the amenities they're adding. This was our first time to RA. We were here for a PDX event for my husband. He would have to comment about the actual track but my son and I discovered so many other great things to do. The property is huge with so many awesome viewing places. Definitely bring good walking shoes. We did about 6.5 miles per day (if you believe your phone). We played disc golf, shopped at the store, met the awesome and very knowledgeable team in the control room and did the Off Road experience on Saturday night. That was a highlight!! Bill, our leader, guided us through some beautiful (and challenging) trails on RA's fleet of brand new Yamaha Vikings. (They get new equipment every year.) This was an amazing weekend and we're already talking about next year's event. Can't wait to come back and join some of RA's other driving experiences. read more

As far as road tracks go, Road America is the best of the best. I grew up here and have been attending events here since the 80s. My parents met here in the 60s. Historic track. Major events. Petrolicious rides. Sign me up. I visit the track at least once a year... most often for the Pirelli World Challenge. Its great to get so close to iconic cars and legendary drivers. They hosted an event I organized last summer and did a fantastic job. I really can't think of one thing I'd improve. In fact... the track grounds seemingly improve, to better accommodate and entertain visitors with every passing year. Are you a petrolhead who lives, drives through or visits Wisconsin? This place is special. I come here at least a couple times a year. I would come more if it was not so expensive to get in. It is worth the price though. The track is large and offers a ton of beauty mixed in between the windy turns. Make sure to wear walking shoes because the track is large. Each corner offers seating and a food stand. Most food stands offer a ton of food options (hamburgers, cheese curds and ice cream). The cheese curds I had this time had both white and yellow cheese. They were really tasty and had a good crunch. The ice cream they offer is cedar creek and on a hot day the mint chocolate cone with a waffle cone hit the spot to cool me down. As I stated in the beginning this track is gorgeous and sorrounded by woods. There is no place like it you have to experience it at least once. read more

What an AMAZING race track. One of the longest, fastest, most technical tracks in the states - I was able to sit track side with the crew of professional AMA team as 5 different races took place. This is a nice track. You can camp the downside is that if you have a camper it doesn't have water hook-up. The plus side is that they do have a water outlet at check in that they will let you use to fill up your RV or camper. They also have showers you can use but if its a busy weekend be prepared to wait for the showers or go really early. read more

Ah, Road America, how I love thee! I have had the privilege of living within walking distance of the "track" for almost 14 years. RA is one of the premiere road courses in the country. Whenever I ask drivers what stands out about RA, their answers are always unanimous; it's FAST! The track is also one of the most accessible and spectator friendly tracks in the country. Tip: rent a golf cart, or bring a licensed motorcycle or scooter, or even a bicycle to get around the spectator road that basically winds around most of the track. At 4 miles, it is a long track, and although you can get around in a car, there are some areas that are limited to foot traffic, golf carts, and/or motorcycles an the like. Tip: carry-ins are allowed, but the food (especially the Gear Box is great). They even serve breakfast. Tip: there are two concession stands that serve liquor. If you are looking for a vodka lemonade or the like, head on over to Perl's (Turns 1&7). Turn 5 is the most popular turn at the track due to the almost 90 degree angle turn. It can be viewed from the outside to the East, or alongside the hill between Turns 5&6. Another added treat is to follow the fence line towards turn 4. There you will experience one the track's 3 straits. It is surrounded by woods on both sides of the track, so it's like an amplifier. The sound and speed are incredible! More great viewing areas are "Hurry Downs" (Turns 7&8) located on a hill, great views of several turns, there is also a jumbo screen set up for premiere races such as Nascar and ALMS. A jumbo screen is also located on the outside of turn 5, and a few smaller ones have been added in other areas as well. As I said, the screens aren't permanent, but are brought out for the premiere race weekends. Inside of turn 6: this a hotspot for photographers, as you can get incredibly close to the track! Inside and outside of turn 6 (coming up the hill from the famous turn 5) are also great spots to see turn 5 from a different angle. The outside of 6 also boasts a nice, shady viewing area; which can be a relief on hot days. Turn 1 is great because it's the very first turn of the track, and anything can happen on that first lap. The "kink" (Turn 11) is a fantastic spectator spot. You need to walk down a hill and over a bridge, but it is worth it! It usually isn't very crowded, and is a must see during any cycle race! Tip: Wear comfortable shoes, and don't forget the sunscreen! If your'e a smoker, do NOT forget to bring them, as a pack of cigarettes cost $14 @ the track. Last, but certainly not least, after a long day at the track, head on over to the Village of Elkhart Lake for dinner and nightlife! It is a truly happening town during summer; especially race weekends! I don't know what we would do without Road America! We are so blessed to have (in my opinion) the best road course in the country right in our own backyard! read more

I have gone to many track days through the Shelby Club and The Porsche Club here. They have done a great job making you feel at home at the track and allowing the people at the track to have freedom to explore the surrounding viewpoints around the track. They feel authentic and it is great that they allow sponsorships from locals instead of being completely commercialized. The IMSA race this year was exceptional and the pit walk and paddock walks were great for fan experiences. The RV locations were a great atmosphere by the tracks and biking around the track and taking golf karts are great ways of transportation during the large races going on. This race track is AMAZING! As a spectator you have access to almost the whole entire property (I went to the AMA superbike double header) You don't have to pay extra to access the paddock area. The property itself is CLEAN AND BEAUTIFUL. There are decent elevation changes and nicely wooded areas. They also have a great food area with plenty to offer the guests. I have been to this track about 3 times now and always leave with a smile on my face. One complaint i do have is the prices to camp out are really high. I wanted to go to the event Saturday, camp out Saturday night and see the rest of the races Sunday. I ended up not doing this because it was way too expensive to do that, i ended up going to another campsite about 20 min away and not even going to the races on Sunday. read more
