Had a great experience at Road Runner Sports purchasing a pair of sneakers after discovering my old sneakers were simply worn out after barely 15 months of use. I've always browsed around here every now and then during lunch, but never bothered to undergo the full experience of doing a fit test and all of the fixins. This time around, I didn't want to mess around so I did the proper routine. Of course, the benefit of coming here on a weekday is that you don't have to wait very long to do the fit test and try on sneakers. With their help, I did finally decide on a sneaker to buy, although it admittedly took me a few extra days to make the purchase. However, the service was spectacular, prompt, and attentive in my eyes. The prices are what you'd expect from a running shoe store. I did splurge a little extra for custom insoles. In the limited time I've begun to wear my new shoes, I've noticed the difference. For me, the decision was easy because I was able to utilize my HSA employer-contributions from my previous job against it. By default, I was enrolled as a VIP member. This place has a mix of everything that a sportsperson would want. The clothes and shoes collections are pretty good but little pricey. They have a cool precision measuring device that measures both your feet along with other parameters and emails you the details. This helps you get the right shoes for your feet. It was amazing to know that a person can have different sized feet. They even have couple of treadmills for people to check stability with the trial shoes. We got ourselves a Hypervolt 2 massager and it has been a good purchase from what we have tried so far. A running enthusiast's store run by running enthusiasts... A bit of a tongue twister there, but that is exactly what you will find at Road Runner Sports at the Shoppes of North Brunswick off of Route 1. I would be remiss if I did not recall some personal history with this particular Road Runner Sports store at the Shoppes of North Brunswick. It was around November 2008, and I returned home from deployment. I remember driving up the highway to see this newly established development, and reflecting on how the town was changing. Not too long after returning home, I decided to adjust my lifestyle around a bit, and take running (which I was already doing with the Army) a bit more serious. In comes, Road Runner Sports. While I don't remember specifically which pair of shoe and/or shoes I purchased that day (it was either Brooks or Mizunos), I recall having a pleasurable experience at the store - everything from the interaction with the store associate, to testing/measuring my stride and stance on the machines. Generally speaking, a customer venturing into a specialty store that is dedicated to a specific commodity will generally find really passionate associates on the commodity they are selling. For the most part, the passion and related emotions are genuine, however, sometimes it can be perceived as snobbish or arrogant which then becomes intimidating and disempowering to those who are exploring opportunities. The Road Runners Sports in fact did not exhibit these traits, but in fact made me feel welcomed and peaked by interests even more with how inviting and knowledgeable they were. I would say that this experience with Road Runners really catalyzed the following years where I became dedicated to running. I might have gone to the store one or two more times to replace worn out shoes before leaving New Jersey in 2012. Fast forward more than a decade later, I'm back here with my family. My wife, not being from North Brunswick or New Jersey for that matter, happened to wander into the store looking to replace her running shoes. Her experience was almost a sincere replication of my experience as she was thoroughly satisfied - I believe she ended up buying two pairs of shoes her first time there. She subscribed to the membership program which offers great value and rewards to its members (she's already at enough points that gives her credit to purchase a brand-new shoe). Everytime she goes, Patrick is there to help and guide her through what she is looking for. The customer service and relations are still as good, if not better than when I first visited in 2008. The associates truly know what they are talking about and go above and beyond to ensure that you have the right and best fitting shoe. Furthermore, any issues that we had with the sizing after the store visitation were resolved without hassle. The pricing points are what you can expect for quality running shoes, but there are great deals from time to time. I would definitely recommend this Road Runners Sports to anyone who is looking for great service and products when it comes to running shoes, apparel, and gear. read more

I had a great experience at Road Runner Sports. When I arrived, I was greeted by Patrick. I was having an issue with soreness in my left leg. He was extremely attentive, listened to my problem, and then fitted me for a new orthotic. He also recommended that I switch to another sneaker. As a result, my pain is going away and I love my new sneakers. Overall, I was very impressed with his customer service skills. I definitely felt his commitment to getting the job done right. I had the most horrible experience at the North Brunswick location! I entered the store and was not greeted at all. I waited patiently for the next available team member. After waiting for a 3 minutes a husband and wife entered the store, they were greeted immediately. When I spoke up and said, "I'm sorry, I was here first" one team member didn't acknowledge anything I said and continued to help the new customer. The second team member said "oh I thought you wanted to make a return". I said "return what? I don't have anything in my hand". Then 10 minutes later he came to assist me and told me to remove my shoes AND socks. Why would I remove my socks? To step on a machine bare foot where others have stepped? Then he attempted to give me used socks that were rolled up on a table that someone had removed from their feet. I said "no I will keep my own socks on". The only reason I patronized this store is that I really wanted a pair of Hoka's for an upcoming vacation and I have a probably being I'm diabetic. I have never felt so humiliated. I have metatarsalgia and have been in pain for years, and have been working at Walmart on my feet 24 hours a week, in agony every minute with foot pain. After doing some research on Yelp as I was visiting a friend in the area- I decided to check out this shop amongst others because a friend recommended it! John was such a great help and he was super knowledgable! He listened to my concerns and being extremely athletic myself I knew what I did and didn't want. He accessed my concerns in terms of finding the perfect pair of sneakers and was super patient as in someone who is very picky if I'm going to put down an investment on what I'll be using multiple times a week to train. He showed me my imbalances and recommended me proper insoles and socks. He definitely went above and beyond in terms of customer service (and built rapport--funniest & hardworking guy). I ended up buying more than I initially came in for because I trusted his advice, got a backup pair, and wow it helped me get back on the road. Andrew, Shauna & Adam were very helpful and personable at the North Brunswick store #706. I needed a pair of everyday walking shoes that could accommodate my ankle's figure 8 brace. Andrew was engaged and attentive during the custom fitting for the insoles. Both he and Shauna patiently brought at least 12 pairs as I walked laps around the store to ensure they were comfortable and fit well. Adam was at the register and explained the benefits of membership and answered my questions about some of perks. All of this time and attention was given to a first time customer during a Tent Sale Event!! Had a very pleasant experience shopping for running shoes for my wife. Patrick helped her out very patiently. They have equipment to analyze your gait and arches - and Patrick used it as well - but what mattered more was Patrick's experience and patience in helping her understand choices. The store is also big and they really have some neat fitness gear. Should not expect bargain prices but remember you get what you pay for. If you spend 1-2 hours everyday in the gym, then some investment in analyzing what type of shoe you should wear is well worth it. They also have a $19.99 per year family discount membership plan. We signed up for it hoping that we will be visiting them often. The shoe is too new to comment but will update the feedback in due course of time. I've been to this store 3 times and another 2 times at a different location in New Jersey. The customer service in this location is the best ! They are busy every time I've visited but they never once rushed me or my family. Yesterday I came with my elderly parents. The staff helped us and were very patient at every step of the way. We spent more than we planned on, but it was well worth it! They addressed all our concerns and what we needed. I am an experienced runner and a vertan of too many 5k's 10k's, 20+ half marathons and 4 marathons. I recently got back into distance running, and starting getting very painful shin splints. Andrew was extremely helpful and gave me the gate analysis I need to see if my running motion had changed. He put me into a neutral max cushion sneaker set. The 3D measurement had me at a 12 2E size with socks on. I had never been measured at a wide before and I think that really will make a difference in my running. Ever since I started going to Road Runner 4 years ago in search of a good pair of running shoes for the NJSP Academy, I have been impressed. The selection is top notch, the fit experts truly are experts, and the discount tables have been amazing - the most recent purchase was a pair of $160 Adidas that I got for $80! I've gone back for a couple pairs of their insoles which have helped with plantar fasciitis pain from work. Today, I went for a pair of shorts, which John helped me with. I had to exchange a pair of Nike shorts I had gotten but didn't like. John was friendly, patient, and helpful. Despite being short staffed at the time of my visit, John was able to help multiple customers and process my exchange without much delay. I don't recall the names of all of the fit experts who have helped me over the years but they are all excellent and I have never had a negative experience at this store. I'm training for my first half marathon and stopped by Road Runner with my boyfriend to be fitted for a new pair of shoes. Up until today I'd been using an old pair of ASICS Gel Flux, which I suspect have been contributing to some minor aches and pains in my knees and hamstrings (the shoes get to feel a bit too tight during longer runs). My family were also all recently fitted for new running sneakers and recommended this location. Shanyah was an outstanding help! She was super knowledgable and patiently answered all my questions. Keeping in mind my running goals, weekly mileage, results from the computerized fit test (SO cool), and personal preference of fit (I was inclined to go with a pair that provided more stability despite the test/fit app classifying me as "neutral") Shanyah provided more than five options from various brands for me to try on with my new custom insoles. I appreciated that she was open to my preferences and interest in certain brands and used that to curate the selection. The shoes were even all aesthetically pleasing, lol (kind of hard to find in running shoes). It was really refreshing to encounter such friendly, patient and attentive service. I took my new shoes (decided on a pair of Mizuno Wave Inspire 13s. My boyfriend bought me my second choice, Gel Kayano. I wasn't very impressed. I know they were busy and understaffed. I started feeling like if you don't show up in jogging clothes, they won't take you seriously. When I was finally waited on, they didn't have the running shoe I was looking for and didn't really take much time to show me other similar shoes. I finally went online to search since I had a gift card I wanted to use. The website showed 20% off your first purchase and an additional 10% if you join their VIP club. The VIP club was supposed to be an additional $1.99 for the first year. Guess what? I purchased my Brooks shoes and received the discount as well as used the gift card. They didn't give me the 20% as mentioned online. The following week they charged my card $11.99 for the VIP club. Two weeks now and I still don't have my shoes. They have my money, though. I found the same running shoes at Dick's for less than their VIP price. Live and learn. read more

This was my first time in any running specific store and it was a fantastic experience. I came in when the store opened on a Saturday morning (Store 706) and was helped by John. John made me feel right at home. Before doing anything he took the time to explain the process of how to fit and pick out a pair of shoes to me. He took a video of me running and some measurements, went into the back room, and then he came out with options from various brands. There was no rush. I put on each pair and ran around the store, picked the pair I liked best and was on my way! John's ability to go back and fourth between casual conversation and his ability to answer all of my running related questions made the experience a great one. read more

I was in desperate need of a replacement for my well-loved Pumas. After I left Road Runner I still am, but I have some new shoes for a different role. First of all, go to the store with a generous amount of free time. Their Shoe Dog routine where they analyze your feet and gait takes a little bit of time, but is well worth it. Afterwards they pick out shoes that offer the best support. Maya (a "Shoe Dog Pro") guided me through the process and I have to say it definitely works and is not a gimmick. The salesperson (Derek) was able to find 4 pairs that had the right support characteristics. The staff is very friendly and the sales pressure was pretty low. I saw a sign on the stockroom door that said "Rember: ALWAYS bring out Nike and Saucony" - I assume because those are the two brands they make the most $ on - but there was no pressure for me to pick either of those shoes; I didn't even try the Nikes on! Their VIP program is $20/1yr - I'd say that's fairly hefty for a store membership but you do get 10% off all purchases, a $10 gift card for your next purchase, and a very generous return policy. If you spend over ~$100 it will pay for itself on your first purchase. The custom, molded to your feet inserts are pretty magical. Again, definitely not a gimmick. I decided to pass as they were out of my budget ($70-$80), but definitely worth it. I won't go here for EVERY purchase, but I will definitely stop in for some athletic related purchases. I agree with Diana A that the prices can be steep; however, the salespeople are friendly and knowledgeable. The pair I bought was on sale; a brief search online revealed that I had saved $40(!) by buying in the store, rather than online, and online I would not have even known what to buy! tl;dr - good staff, good sales, join the VIP club for significant savings. read more

Came here during COVID to get my fiancé running shoes. Every surface was wiped down after every customer, we weren't allowed to touch the shoes on the wall and everyone wore masks. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. Jonathan was super thorough while helping us out and gave my fiancé some tips on tying his shoes in a runners knot. I went to Road runner on a friends recommendation. I've never been there although it's right in my town and pass it everyday. I've been having trouble with all my shoes. They just werent giving me the comfort and support I need all day since I work in a hospital. I met Brian and he was wonderful he helped me with all my questions and was very knowledgeable and so patient with me. He really listened to all my specific needs. Oh and so very friendly to make my experience even better. I even had issues with my current socks and he helped me there as well. I walked out with 2 pairs of sneakers 2 packets of socks and my own personally made insole, which was done with super cool technology. Every thing was done in a very disinfected manner.
