After a long day of business and crossing several state lines, we ended up in Tucumcari New Mexico and found our way to the Roadrunner Lodge. It came recommended from the blue swallow Motel which was full for that night. It's along Route 66 and with the Centennial celebration coming up soon, it was wonderful to be able to see this motel in its updated glory. The Roadrunner Lodge is considered mid-century modern. The room was nicely decorated and created the feel of going back in time. Very well kept with some nice updates, while staying true to the theme of a bygone era. Tucumcari was once considered a little Las Vegas because of all of its neon signs. A lot of the businesses have kept some of those neon signs alive, which makes it beautiful to drive through at night. The owner of the Roadrunner Lodge has a passion for keeping those neon signs lit and active in his community. There is not a coffee maker in the room, but there is a nice coffee station with breakfast treats in the front office in the morning. This was a fun and pleasant stay and I would recommend this motel, especially for anyone with nostalgia of Route 66. read more

This place is a super cute vintage style place to stay that is dog friendly. I booked online for a stay. They have a radio with older songs on it. On the bed they left some treats and if you want to purchase a dog bowl or towel form them. But we didnt purchase those. They have a firepit outside and a small dogrun for your furry friends. But heads up, you will get eaten alive by the mosquitos when the sun goes down. They do have bug spray outside, but those mosquitos are relentless. The beds were comfy and was a nice quiet stay. It's just sad that about 90% of this town is rundown or shutdown over the years. I would have loved to see it back in the day. read more

A throwback to the 1960s travel era except it's better than it ever was - no smell of PineSol disinfectant or stale cigarette smoke or saggy mattresses. Comfy beds, clean rooms, appointed with mid century furniture and accessories. Even the toilet is still wrapped in a Sanitized for your protection ribbon! Other unique touches include a couple mini Moon Pies in the room and a radio that somehow broadcasts old commercials and tunes. Really getting the feeling of time travel here. The owners and the staff are super nice people - like to chat about travel destinations. I highly recommend staying here, don't be afraid of staying at a motel. It's a great experience. They serve coffee/tea in the morning and a few granola bars or donettes for a quick snack. Gift shop lobby has some cool stuff like getting a copy of your own room key chain. read more

This place was so fun. Alas, I didn't get to meet Elvis, the dog ambassador, but otherwise my stay was perfect. Impeccably clean, and the decor was so amazing- they put a lot of work into giving you the 60s experience. The dog park is grassed, and my dog was greeted with a nifty bag of snacks. -and some gifts. Not just dog-friendly but people-friendly too with a firepit and lounge area outside. It really is like stepping back in time! Clean, kitschy and cute, the Roadrunner is a classic Route 66 motel. The owners were friendly and helpful and very proud of their establishment (they should be!). There are moonpies in the rooms, and Ding Dongs and Twinkies are served beside the coffee/tea each morning. They even have two dogs, but they only bring them out with the approval of the guests. An old-fashioned radio was playing Nat King Cole when we walked into our rooms, and they have modern TVs with local cable. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were small but clean, and we got two rooms with an adjoining door. Unfortunately, sleeping was difficult because the outside lights were shining through the shades, making it seem like dawn all night long. Still, this is a great roadside motel. If you need one in Tucumcari, this is the one to choose! read more

Such a cool place! I loved the bright blue outer doors. When I opened up the door to my room, all the lights were on (a very welcoming glow) and the "old" radio was playing an old-time radio show. I saw furniture like what used to be in my parents' house and it all just made me smile really big. The mini moon pies in a dish on a side table made me laugh out loud. The room was a decent size overall and very cute. The bed was comfortable, the AC unit was very quiet, the water pressure was good and the towels were large and thick. This is a retro hotel, so there are no microwaves or refrigerators in the room, but I believe they are available on site to use. Great customer service and the coffee they had available during office hours (7-10am and 4-7pm) was pretty good! Oh, some rooms are pet friendly - be sure to arrange that with them - and they have a good-sized dog run available. So happy that I decided to stay here! read more

Our only issue is that there aren't any fridges in the rooms and the co.munal fridge should be a regular sized one. We stayed 2 nights. I had to pivot last-minute from some of my original lodging plans in the area and was able to book a dog-friendly room here the night before I needed it! I am so grateful that it all worked out because the Roadrunner Lodge was an amazing stay. The vibes are amazing, the care and love that has been put into restoring the motel while keeping the retro aesthetic and energy of the original is evident and incredible. David, the owner, was super friendly and his reception of me and my pup was the refresh I needed after driving across the country for many hours on many days. I felt right at home and especially loved the little radio playing era-appropriate music and ads upon entering my room. The bed was comfortable, the A/C was sufficient and quiet, and there were even some little treats for my dog. Loved our nostalgic stay at the Roadrunner Lodge on the historic Route 66. We overnighted here in our way from Texas to Colorado based on a recommendation from a friend. What a delightful surprise that gave our whole family a glimpse into life during this time period. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The lobby staff was kind and helpful. There is contactless check in but we wandered to the lobby while looking at the classic Americana car out front. The lobby also has a small collection of historical artifacts from this time, including an old timey fridge with soda inside. This is a dog friendly hotel and they have rooms to accommodate those with pets. Their head of hospitality is Elvis the dog, and we got to see him as we were checking in. This city also has a lot of beautiful murals sprinkled throughout the city. We drove around and loved seeing them so check them out if you have time. So glad we supported this local business! We almost didn't spend the night at Roadrunner Lodge. Deciding to stop for the night while experiencing Route 66 and surrounded by old-fashioned park-at-the-door motels, I stopped at a different motel. At 7 pm, the office was closed, no one answered the bell, and the phone number for the motel showed that it was based in California. We took that as a sign. We drove slowly down the street looking for another nice-looking motel. And, we turned into the Roadrunner Lodge . . . . thank goodness! We were checked in by a pleasant lady in the front office who directed us to a favorite room of theirs on the second level that had a perfect view of Tucumcari Mountain. She said we would recognize it from the movie 'Cars', which we haven't seen, but, when I sent a photo to my grandchildren, they were very excited that I was staying in 'Radiator Springs'. Having only had one good experience recently staying in retro motels, we nervously opened the door (they use real door keys on a plastic fob!) and stepped back into time. A retro radio on the bedside table was playing music from the1960s. Everything was fresh and clean, but I felt like I was back on a road trip with my parents and siblings back in the day. It is so cool! Del's, a restaurant down the street, had been recommended to us. We enjoyed a great comfort food dinner there and returned to our room for a quiet, comfortable sleep. The a/c worked well and quietly) Morning brought us hot showers with great water pressure, and complimentary coffee in the front office. We sat outside to enjoy our coffee and the complimentary moon pies that were in our room, and we enjoyed a nice conversation with another lodger who was exercising his dog in the dog walk (a nice perk for those traveling with puppies). A couple of touches we didn't take advantage of: ice cream novelties for sale in the office, and a large fire pit for all lodgers to hang out at in the evening. As it had been 100 degrees that day, sitting around a fire pit didn't appeal to us as much as a nice, air-conditioned room! The people are kind, understanding, and genuine, and the quality of their customer service shows it all.. Their prices are fair, and the rooms are very accommodating for a variety of individuals and their specific needs. ^__^ My momma and i adore their motels theme and decor, and all their display pieces are salvaged, fixed up, and beautifully displayed for their guests to enjoy! The motels theme is the 50s & 60s! Who could as for anything more of a cute little motel on historic route 66? Moms and my roadtrip to Missouri this month was her first experience at the roadrunner lodge, and she was nothing But pleased with it and the business's hospitality. I wish this section of Tucumcari was more well known vs the large/corporate chains along the highway. This place was *immaculately* clean (yes, I always pull sheets and lift mattresses lmao). Beds were comfy. Rooms well appointed. Entered to the heat on during the cold snap and their lovely radio station playing period music. Staff/owners were absolutely lovely, welcoming & gave us a demo of Mr. Elvis (schnauzer) and his tricks! He's on IG!!! Lmaoooo. It was a quiet & smoke free environment. They do have some pet friendly rooms, but must book those specifically for pets. We enjoyed the lobby shopping/browsing and the family feel of the environment. Recently remodeled for 10th Anniversary of current owners! I have been staying here for the past 8 years because I travel with my three Shelties and they have an enclosed dog run for them to stretch their legs after a long drive (there are a limited number of dog-friendly rooms, so reserve early.). There is always individualized treats for your pets, complimentary bottled water and personal bath and shower amenities and large, soft towels. The recent renovation has also brought new and very comfortable Euro mattresses, new dry goods and vanities. The Route 66 theming throughout adds to the mid century ambiance. Excellent night in a clean and fun, authentic Route 66 motel! Nice fire pit and seating area in the parking lot next to the a very clean doggy play area. Rooms were wonderful with period furniture and even a radio station broadcasted by the owner that plays old 50s music and commercials from the 50s. I have visited Tucumcari my entire life and stayed at several of the motels in town. The Roadrunner Lodge is the jewel of Rt. 66! The owner couldn't have been friendlier, the rooms were supremely comfortable, the little treats (Moon Pies!) on the table were a wonderful surprise!! We sat outside around the fire pit (not lit - it was too hot) and visited amongst ourselves and with our host and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Tucumcari is a gem and this motel is a high light. The check in is so cool and the employees are awesome. Make sure to check out the items for sale in the lobby. It can be frustrating trying to find pet-friendly accommodations when traveling with two, large labradors like we do, but the Roadrunner Lodge exceeded our expectations. The room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. The vintage radio was playing 60's music when we entered our room and there were Moon Pies left on the table for us. There was a sweet personalized letter to both our pups as well as a small bag of treats for each of them and a bowl for water. The pet area outside was large, clean and had REAL GRASS! (That's hard to come by on the road!) It was will lit at night and nicely shaded in the daytime. There were also toys available for the dogs to play with and a water dish for drinks. There was also a very nice fire pit area with lots of seating, that several people were taking advantage of. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We will most definitely be staying at the Roadrunner when we head through Tucumcari again...HIGHLY recommended!! :) read more
