After a rather long day of motoring my 2008 Ford Ranger 326miles/522kms North(East) on US54 from El PasoTX-USA to TucumcariNM-USA, I really lucked out. My personal preference are older motels, circa 1930-50 for their tremendous historical significance in the building of the current/exclusive 5-star motel/hotel brands that dominate the overnight landscape. Obviously, the dated structures I seek out are not the modern/expensive/completely/fully provisioned/elaborate/"new looking" which typify the fancy/chain-style/multi-level buildings featuring workout rooms/meeting & ballrooms with on-site restaurants. Fortunately, ALL overnighteries have the same features in each room: flat screen TVs equipped with remotes (sometimes 2 or 3 remotes, which my "Digital Dinosaur" skills revile!) that deliver just about anything the "Digital Native" easily keys in; a (mini-)fridge; a microwave; often a coffee maker; some. have in-room phones; usually a satisfyingly firm mattress; and always a toilet/washbasin/shower a/o tub. As my preferred motels are single-story with ground-floor access, which I require when biketouring--no way will I struggle with carrying my "FrankenBike" either up/down any stairs! Also, since these are less expensive, there is always the chance that some expected features could be absent. Specifically, ice machines. In fact, some of the budget motels I overnight in regularly, I'll import a bag of ice (¡Talk about being spoiled for such an incredibly luxurious item!) from a nearby Dollar Store/Suprette/commercial ice machine. And so I'm very pleased to be here at what is now the OLDEST/ORIGINAL Route 66 motel in existence in in TucumcariNM! The mattress could be a bit firmer and the ice machine is currently broken. This small room 107 is perfect for a single traveller such as myself, with exclusive parking just outside the door. As this community is at a higher altitude than El Paso, it is cooler outside, and there is ongoing light intermittent sprinkling. Glad I brought my night kit of a woolen cap/long underwear/wool jumper and vest (if needed). I know my night will be restful and enriching because this foundation of USA transportation surrounds me! BEDBUGS.! my daughter and her family stayed there October 14, 2023. Late evening check in. The next day they had bites and welts all over them.! They are currently going to the emergency room. They addressed it with the hotel manager he said it's an allergic reaction.! She requested her money back. He did not give it to her. Stating, that room should not have been rented out.. When they went into the room, there was a sheet over the window, and the beds were not made. They took pictures of the room & how it looked. They got a video of a live bed bug moving across the bed. they have pictures of bites ALL over their bodies, even the 2 yr old. Terrible place. read more

Absolutely horrid. We were told our pets were welcome, but they were very hesitant when we arrived (we have two small dogs) - we were stuck in a corner room that's door lock barely worked. The room was FILTHY. The bedding wasn't clean. The floors were stained. There was a blanket pinned up as a curtain. The air conditioning unit was super outdated and let out a sad puff when we turned it on. The bathroom was covered in mold and there was bugs crawling over the toilet. The whole motel smells like lighter fluid. Only good thing about out 15 minute stay was the kind man at the front desk and the full refund we received. read more

Stayed in room 103 at this definitely vintage motel. It wasn't fancy but had a bed and a shower.  The room had a fridge, microwave and coffee(pot).  The carpet was pretty stained. The bed was definitely aged; the shower was hot and the pressure decent. This is the first property I've stayed at in ages that had a tub mat. I usually sacrifice a hand towel since a shower slip and fall is my biggest fear.  The shower insert had tons of storage, which I always appreciate.  Woke up to only one decaf coffee so good thing I always bring backup.  Property had an ice machine but it was empty.  The towels had a gray tinge and should be bleached or replaced.  Check out is 10AM - the first on this road trip. It was the least expensive room of my month-long trip.  Kudos to the manager for leaving a note asking me to stop by before I left because I had been charged twice. The night cost $39.06, including a surcharge. Grade:  C Would stay again?  Yes, but knowing already what the place is like.  Probably wouldn't recommend it though. read more

I made reservations knowing that the motel wouldn't be 5 star. I specified on the reservations that I had two pets. The froqnt desk lady grumbled that I hadn't told them about the pets. She said if I had put it on the reservation "pet friendly" would have shown across the top of the reservation. According to her they only have three pet friendly rooms and they were taken BUT she charged me the extra $14 and gave me a room. The place smells musty, including the office. The carpet is filthy and I don't trust the cleanliness of the sheets or bedspread. The key wouldn't work in the door, the owner had to unlock the door. Apparently the lock is misaligned. That does not make me feel safe. Also, either the toilet paper holder needs to be mowed or the owner has a unique way to decorate with greenery because that is a plant growing from it. On the plus side, it's quiet, I don't see any bedbugs and the TV looks relatively new. The fridge is cold and the room is warm (it's a cold windy night. ) read more

A tiny little motel on the side of the road, looks rough but it actually quite lovely! The rooms are well furnished and cleaned. The bathrooms are really cute! I was greeted by the owner and a man named Ronald. They walked me to my room and helped me get checked in. Ronald was so nice and probably my favorite person I've met on this trip! He was so welcoming and helpful. He pointed out the local spots to eat. There's lots of parking and some rooms are even pet friendly! When I had called to make a reservation, I had asked what they were doing for COVID-19, when I arrived they told me they just got done cleaning the room an extra time to make me feel more comfortable. I had a great experience at Americana Motel. I pulled into Tucumcari at about 2:30 a.m. during a long road trip and wasn't sure where to stay. I drove past several places that looked a little less than well-kept before I saw the Americana. It was tidy enough on the outside, so I thought I'd give it a try. I rang the bell at the front window and one of the owners came out right away. She was very friendly, and the price was extremely reasonable. I didn't have incredibly high expectations for the room because I'd stayed in other motels in old Route 66 towns and know that part of the "charm" is that things are pretty much as they were in the highway's heyday. This was the case at the Americana, too, but that's what I expected for under $40. Inside, the room was clean, which is all I really wanted. Everything was functional, the pillows were perfect, and I slept like a log. In the morning when I left, the owners were outside working and were very pleasant. I've seen other reviews that complained about them, but I personally appreciate that they reserve the right to refuse questionable guests. I felt safe and well-rested. It was a great stay, and I'd recommend it to others passing through Tucumcari. read more

Surprisingly not bad . May look a little run down. But the air conditioner worked amazing , my truck plus the cargo I'm hauling was too big to park in a normal spot so the woman in the front desk was kind enough to let us park on the side which worked out perfect . My truck bed is full of stuff and not 1 thing was stolen . Clean towels clean room and the best part of all it's a pet friendly motel. This hotel appears older and non descriptive from the outside, but was much more comfortable then most chain hotels I had stayed in while my husband and I traveled across the country. Our hotel room was large, we stayed in room 6 and our room was big enough to have a kingsize and queensize bed in the room. Our room was easy to keep warm considering it was December and the cold New Mexico winter was very unforgiving. The bathroom was spic and span, my only complaint was that I did not care much for the cheap single use hotel soap provided. Our TV set was new and a flat screen mounted on the wall with plenty of satelite channels to keep us entertained. Our hotel actually gave us a real key for our room instead of those cards most hotels provide. We booked our room through Expedia and felt we got a good deal. We had plenty of warm blankets so I had no complaints. Also, management lived onsite so I knew we would have no issues. There were other lodgers staying there but it was nice and quiet,we did not hear a peep. I wiuld recommend staying here versus a Motel 6 because you get your moneys worth. read more

While this motel is no Hilton, it fully deserves 5 stars. The gentleman running the front desk is a total sweetheart, and the room we were given had all the necessities. My boyfriend and I were traveling through NM when a blizzard made it impossible to see. Never seeing snow before, we got off I40 and managed to find this adorable motel off the side of Route 66. When we finally managed to get out of our snowed-in vehicle and get inside the quaint front office, desperation was evident in our flushed faces and shaken demeanor. Instead of exploiting our obvious need of shelter, it cost us a mere $40 to stay in a cozy, heated room. The next day, the owner helped us call local and state police to get information on road closures, and he also advised us on where to go for food. I'd 100% recommend the Americana motel. read more

From reviews we were advised on the motel. The price was very affordable. The bed was comfortable. Cable/flat screen worked. Coffee was good. Microwave was there and clean towels. (I like rough towels, they dry better.) The tub drain was slow as reviewed. And the showerhead sprayed up on backwall. We checked out this Morning around 5:35am. We left a note with the key, in the key drop box, letting them know this. We just needed a good night sleep in a clean and comfortable place. We felt safe there. I had booked another cute hotel but weather kept up back and by the time we arrived at 10pm the other hotel had closed and wouldn't return our calls. We were tired from driving all day so we got back on the main drag looking for a vacancy sign. This was the first one we found. The $29 for a single sign as well as the how small the rooms looked from the outside (the doors were close together) was a turn off but we decided to brave it (we were tired) and it turned out to be not that bad. Pros: (mostly) clean room, clean bathroom, price, availability, fridge, microwave, cable Cons: we found several hairs on the pillow cases. we had brought our own pillows so this worked out. (we checked the bed before getting in and didn't find anything else gross). The room was small but that wasn't a con for us. The external walls were thin but we ran the heater which went pretty much non-stop all night (This was early December). I didn't have any problem with checking in or out. The furniture is old, but again, I didn't really care. This was just a pit stop for us. Overall it was better than expected. The rating is based on the price and amenities. Best motel ever. If you look like a druggie they won't rent to you. Clean rooms no bugs good heater fridge microwave $550 monthly for my room. Locks actually lock and Sam and his wife are great people. I might die here. Cameras for safety. $31 a night and you want to complain about dog fees be thankfull they allow dogs at all. Very friendly. Got a king and queen not 2 doubles. Great price. Internet works. TV great. Walk in with coupon. So happy for $42 including tax. Coffee in room. Has mini soap and shampoo packets. But overall just from tonight, spacious, fridge, micro, flatscreen , hot water, clean, so pleased. Warm heat and roomy, full tub, beautiful pine walls, excellent lighting. Really couldn't be happier with the room . This is a real bang for your buck. read more
