Do not go to this place. I dropped off my Bennington Pontoon for some warranty work and they called…read moreme later and tried to tell me that they would not do the work under the warranty because my boat was in SALT WATER! Salt water? I live in the midwest. I tried to plead with them and asked for the manager which they said was out of town so I paid the 370 bucks to have them clean one terminal on a dashboard switch. And then gave me a price of 1600 bucks to clean the rest which I didnt have them do OBVIOUSLY. I called Bennington and they agreed that this place was ripping me off. I then called the manager (Matt) who informed me that he doesn't know why his people would tell me this and agreed to refund my credit card which I thought was commendable. That refund took 4 weeks and several phone calls to finally get my money back. Im not sure why they are treating boaters like this. Maybe they know my ex wife? I will never go back here again and I warn anyone who I can to do the same. Beware! I posted some pictures of the terminals that this place said was completely corroded from saltwater. You tell me.

Extremely Disappointed - Poor Service and Follow-Up…read more I purchased a brand-new Bennington from The Boathouse in Elkhorn, Wisconsin after attending the boat show in January. Unfortunately, my experience has been nothing short of frustrating from start to finish. When the boat was delivered on Mother's Day, it arrived dirty and covered in bird droppings--not at all what you expect when buying a new boat. The fuel gauge wasn't working properly at delivery either. Although the delivery person said the tank was full, it only registered at 50%. The Boathouse arranged to pick it up later to fix the issue, but when it was returned, the problem persisted. During another attempt to repair the tank, a technician broke a part and tried to replace it by getting parts locally instead of returning the boat to the shop. Even after those efforts, the gas gauge continued to malfunction, constantly showing inaccurate readings. Later in the season, the shut-off switch for the key came off, and when I contacted The Boathouse, they said it wasn't covered under warranty and that I'd have to pay $250 for the part. The part they sent was wrong--not once, but twice. Out of frustration, I contacted another authorized Bennington dealer, who informed me that everything was covered under warranty and that The Boathouse should have handled the repairs properly from the beginning. The new dealer fixed everything promptly, and Bennington covered all the costs. I worked primarily with Joseph Bishop and Matt, and there was no meaningful follow-up or accountability from either of them. I would never purchase from or recommend The Boathouse in Elkhorn again. My advice--go elsewhere if you want a dealer who values customer service and stands behind their products.

If you are looking for a boat mechanic you cannot go wrong with Barry. I've been taking my boats to…read morehim for years. I'm on my third boat (fiberglass with I/O, fishing boat with outboard, and now a pontoon with an outboard) and he's done great work to all of them. He has given me great advice and guidance on buying and selling my boats too. I have not had a problem yet that he couldn't diagnose and fix right away. He's quick to respond (I sent him a frantic email at 10:30pm one night from vacation and he was able to diagnose the problem within an hour). What other mechanic would provide that kind of service? His prices are fair and he does not charge you for things you don't need. He is not out there to gauge people for a one-time payday. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a mechanic. Even if you already have one, give him a try. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Barry's Marine is a gem. Had a stainless steel prop, fish finder/sonar and an engine tune up all…read moredone by Barry. Barry's price came in lower than what the stealership wanted for the steel prop ALONE not to mention all the other work he did. The work is done well, on time, and you can tell he takes pride in his work. He told me that due to the curvature of my dash that a mount would be difficult to place where I wanted it but he was able to make it work and it looks great! How many places can you say that about? Recently I had a skeg break off that was improperly (no pun intended) welded on. He recommended Mike's prop shop. Due to the poor craftsmanship that was done previously (by a previous owner, not me) they were unable to properly fix the skeg without potential damage to the lower unit. Barry did everything in his power to try to get the skeg fixed and even after I had already come to terms with needing a new lower unit, he still had one more weld guy he wanted to try. The other welder confirmed it was not salvageable so I got a new aftermarket lower unit by Barry for less than 1/3 of the price of a stealership. Each time Barry has touched my boat the performance is better than it was before, and noticeably so. My friend has a newer boat (by about 10 years) than I do and he says mine is quieter and works better than his. Barry is my go to for anything I need done with my boat and in the short time I've owned my boat I wouldn't let anyone else touch it. Thanks for being honest and a good business person. Hard to come by these days.

Twice they told me it was fixed but in less than an hour on the water, the same problem arose both times. It was finally fixed after I called the engine manufacturer and had the corporate service director contact the dealership to walk them through the repair. Awful! Do not use. Ever!

I explained to the owner the symptoms to the best of my ability. They told me they would be able to get to it in a week. about a week and a half later i decided to call and check progress. apparently they had started the troubleshooting process and had to stop because they had questions which again i answered to the best of my ability. about a half week later i got a call saying it was complete and that the cooling intake vents were clogged $200 some dollars. i picked up the boat happy it was fixed and couldnt get on water for about 3 weeks, busy. Finally i was able to get on water and within minutes the alarm was going off. frustrated and unsure of what to do we got off lake and went home. My wife was googling the symptoms and we found that the honda 4 stroke outboard has a fuel water separator with a float alarm. we watched the video on how to disasemble, empty, reassemble, and boom problem solved. My complaint isnt with the time i didnt have the boat almost 3 weeks. its the fact I paid 200.00 and the problem wasnt solved. I would liike to believe that when you take a boat in for service that there would be some type of minimum check list a mechanic especiaily a certifed mechanic would preform to rule out the issue and or even find others. The fact I waited 3 weeks for the expert to wash out my intakes charge me $200.00 and not solve the problem is what chaps my ass. My wife and i are not mechanics but also not inept. The fact we were able to fix the problem via a youtube speaks volume to the fact that they are not qualified to repair a cardboard box.
