    Trane A/C unit.
    Josh L.

I used Robert B Payne to replace my 19 year old A/C and furnace. Everyone I delt with were very professional and polite. I selected a high efficiency 2-stage A/C (18 SEER) and furnace. Installation crew was proficient and made short work of installation. All technicians are R.B. Payne employees and not sub-contractors. We are very pleased with our purchase and installation of new high efficiency A/C and furnace. We highly recommend Robert B. Payne for your HVAC needs.

Received 14.5 max output, paid for 16 SEER

Fast, courteous and efficient. Replaced an old a/c unit with a modern one. Got a tax write-off too.

I can NOT recommend this company on time or action. 0 stars if possible…read more Synopsis: This company was chosen due to their availability as we required service as soon as possible. We had created and cancelled other appointments for the same service and choose to spend the higher fee ($139) for diagnostics purely to avoid a longer wait time (other companies were charging less for diagnostics but had the earliest arrival as 7/8/2026). I come to find out that the technician misinformed me of the issues with the unit, actually causing more issues himself, and trying to get us to buy a new unit which we did not need and would have put us in a large amount of debt. At this point I have requested a refund for the diagnostics fee as not only was the diagnostic wrong, the system was made WORSE by the visiting tech. Below, you will find an account of the interactions between myself and the company's representatives. 7/6/2026 Scheduled an appointment for next day to have our AC fixed and was told of an arrival time between 10AM-2pm. 7/7/2026 *At 8:56 AM and 9:10 AM I received text messages confirming the time for arrival at 10AM-2pm. *At 11:40AM I was called by a representative and told that they were booked solid and would have to reschedule because their call center often "double books" them. I told them that this was unacceptable as the time had been agreed upon and my partner has a medical condition which meant they would not survive in the current heat without A/C. I was told I would receive a call back to see if they could 'move things around' to get me on the schedule for 7/7/2026 but that it would still be later than expected, even if they did. *At 12:30PM I received a text saying I was still on the schedule with a provided phone number for questions. I called the number and was informed my technician was "Nick" an that he was still planned for arrival in the expected time period *at 12:46PM I received a call back from the representative who previously called at 11:40AM and was told that we were confirmed to have someone come out today, however it would be later than the previously agreed upon time period with no future time period given upon request or known. After asking for clarity regarding the text and conversation with the other representative, I was told that "they are the call center and don't have access to our local branch's schedule". Seems a real problem of "right hand not talking to the left". *At 2:05PM I received a call from a new dispatch representative informing me that the technician will be at my home in 10 minutes. I had a text informing me at the same time that arrival time was expected between 2:15pm-2:30pm. *At 2:15 Technician Nick arrived, came inside to look at the thermostat, looked at the outside box fan unit, and went back to his vehicle for tools. Shortly after, he informed me that the fuse had blown and that there was something shorting to ground. *Around 3:00PM Nick informed me that the fuse had blown because the control board had shorted, after replacing the fuse, it caused the control board to fail. He informed me he would need to write me a quote to have the board purchased and replaced on a future date. He also informed me of a refrigerant leak. *Around 3:15PM I was informed that the board replacement cost would be over 2k, the refrigerant cost would be an additional over 2k, totaling around 5k. We scheduled a consultation with a sales rep to come out 'immediately' to give us a quote on a new unit *at 3:20PM I received a text message indicating that the sales rep would be here between 4pm and 6pm *at 5:35PM I received a text indicating that I was 'still on the schedule' and that the rep would notify me when they were on the way *at 6:12pm I received a text updating the arrival time to 6:45pm to 7PM. At this time, I contacted a different company to come look at the present AC and potentially schedule a replacement because I had lost confidence that the sales rep would arrive. *Shortly after 7PM the sales rep arrived, as did the rep from the other company. The other company rep left to allow space for the Total comfort sales rep to perform their tasks. We were told we would be quoted for 3 different Rheem air conditioner replacements with the lowest price being around 13k and the highest being 18k. *As the sales rep was leaving, the representative from the alternate company arrived. Within 20 minutes the alternate company rep had brought our AC unit back to life, confirmed that the issue was NOT with the control board and that there was NOT a refrigerant leak. In fact, the actions taken by the initial technician did additional damage to the unit as the thermostat inside had power prior to the Total comfort tech's arrival and did not upon his leave. *Around 8:30pm, the AC was back in working order, the other tech verified the issue was actually a clogged drain pipe which he repaired. Our AC has been working since (current time 9AM 7/8/2026) with no issue.

However, you want a company which can handle possible inevitable complications smoothly, responsibly, and professionally. This company cannot do that and caused significant damage to our house. We have had other similarly sized appliances recently replaced and other companies proceeded with significantly more caution and care. The scheduling process was smooth. The actual installation went poorly. Two technicians came to install. We witnessed them damaging our walls and exterior trim of the house and immediately brought it up to them. They tried to argue the damage was already like that but then when they saw us witnessing more damage they told us to contact the company who would take care of it. The company said it was not possible for them to have caused this damage despite us witnessing it and having photos of it. The owner called me and immediately screamed at me on the phone, said it wasn't possible for them to have caused this damage, called me a liar, and hung up the phone. I encourage you to read through the lower star reviews and see how they respond. You will see they are condescending, deny the problem, and blame the customer. Don't be fooled by their prices. You will be spending an additional several thousand on the damages they caused. Go with RA Dobson- another local extremely professional company who handles everything with extreme care. Installed an attic furnace through a tiny hole in the ceiling without so much as mild scuff. Came with a huge crew and took their time. Cleaned everything up and put down carpet and floor protectors. They also do water heaters and I am sure would be as careful.
