A few issues, all office related. I was billed twice for a regular checkup because the NP I had asked me about my weight and that, to the office, counts as a second visit for some reason. I was told by the office manager, Emily, that it is the policy of Blackwood Family Medicine to not accept medicaid patients at certain times or to see said patients even if they have other insurances in addition to medicaid. This was after the front desk girl told me it was illegal for them not to run both. The office as a whole also is incapable of getting prescriptions correct or sending any kind of paperwork to literally anyone. Honestly you would be better off asking a homeless person to do your paperwork than these ladies. read more

Years and years ago, this practice wasn't too bad; however, the more family member Dr. Blackwood brings in, the worse care you receive. They are never on time, there are problems checking in, the quality of care is not great - they just rush you through - very little care and concern is shown both for you as a person and whatever sickness you might have. Dr blackwood is not your ordinary physician. I've never been rushed, which is the norm with physicians due to insurance payment time factor. Blackwood Family Medicine was easy to find on Google Maps, although the signage was initially a little difficult for me to find. The inside of the building is a bit tricky too but I think I came inside the back door which probably didn't help. I saw Jenny Howell and can't say enough good things about her. She put me at ease right from the start and it's evident that she chose this line of work to help others. She never made me feel rushed or that she had other things to be doing; I felt like she took time to get to know not only me as a medical case but me as a person. So glad to have her as my primary care provider! As far as office experience, I can't say anything negative. The front desk was kind and helpful. The assistant that initially took me to the exam room was a bit flat and not very personable but she did her job and worked efficiently. This practice also has their own lab on site too which I didn't know going into the appt but if you do have an initial appt scheduled and you are able to fast- I'd recommend doing it that way you can get your blood work done in the same visit as your appt. Another thing I'll mention is that it took me less than 2 months to get scheduled as a new patient from the time I called to the time of my appt. I had lab work done on 05/04/2022, and PA Stephanie Hadley and the billing department did not do the coding right. As a result, my health insurance would not process the bill. My wife called Bio Reference numerous times, and she called Dr. Blackwood's office multiple times requesting that this coding issue be fixed. The office manager at Dr. Blackwood's office told my wife that this coding issue would be resolved, so that my insurance would process the payment. Today on 04/2023, I received a bill from Bio Reference for that lab work and no Health Insurance payments which indicates that Dr. Blackwood's office failed to rectify the situation. Rather than waste time and energy, I paid the bill. I also became poisoned as a result of care at this office, and I won't take the time to get into all of that. One medication prescribed by the PA adversely interacted with another medicine resulting in ataxia unspecified due to poisoning. I personally would not go here unless you are very careful with your medicines because they didn't catch mine right away. I ended up with a couple of ER visits and an MRI. went in as new patient for a 2:40 appointment. Arrived at 2:20, waited in line to check in but was told I was in the wrong part of the office so I went to another part of the office, signed the check in sheet at 2:37. sat and waited to be seen by the nurse who told me I was in the wrong part of the office, so I was finally directed to the correct room. I checked in and was told that because I was late I could not be seen. it was 2:52 when they told me this. I left, filed a complaint with the office manager who said it was their policy that after 10 minutes they won't see you.... As a first responder, I understand the value and need to take care of people no matter the circumstance. The people there would not bend the rules of their "policy" to take care of a potential new patient, for a situation I personally feel was not my fault. Moral of the story... this office of people and doctors would not take care of me when I wasn't in need of a doctor, so why should I expect them to take care of me if I truly needed them. read more

Our entire family has been seeing Dr Blackwood since the kids were little. A lot of his family also works in the office. He really listens to the issues and is open to tests and encourages a healthy lifestyle. He will often take a lot time for a visit. Which leads to long waits. I think they overschedule him....knowing he takes time to talk/listen it should be longer visits scheduled. I'm not close to the office. We drive quite a bit to get here. I always say I won't be back.....traffic or front office staff bother me. But then Dr Blackwood always does right by me and i keep coming back. So the office staff: The front desk person has been changing all these years. Some are good. Some are abysmal. So changing an appt or making an appt can be easy or hard. They have a practical nurse and PA now so it helps if you are willing to see them. Usually insurance pays well here, but last time I had 2 copays due to how it was filed. I didn't like that. Due to insurance they now require a Dr visit for any results. If you go to the dr and get blood drawn that visit you be required to pay again to get results. Nothing is given out on the phone. That is my biggest gripe about the office right now. Ok, so the nurse and PA. These too have changed over the years. Sharon B. is the practical nurse lady. I'm warming up to her. She's picking up Dr Blackwood's traits in that she really listens and wants the best for you. She's willing to refer you to someone more in the know. And she does an excellent job at staying on time. Once I had her take over my Dr Blackwood appt b/c he was taking too long and all I needed was a medicine refill check. Her appt's run more on time. In today's insurance world this office has taken a hit. Things that were great before have caused great annoyance to the patients. However, I can walk in this office and tell them my issues, ask for tests and it gets done. No hoops to jump through, they respect your opinion. That is hard to find. While I wish the front office was consistent, and I wish I could get results without a second co-pay....I put up with that b/c the medical Dr and nurse are so very helpful and listen/act when you ask them to. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I have been coming to this practice for a few years now and have never had any problems until now. I had to miss an appointment due to my son being sick and they wanted to charge me $50 for a no show fee. I called to discuss this and asked if this could be removed and they are choosing to still charge me this amount when they do have the option to remove it but still chose not too. I called several times to speak with the owners and Dr. Blackwood himself but apparently they are too busy to call me back over the 2 month time span I have been trying to contact them. I do not recommend this practice or this doctor at all! Sadly Dr. Blackwood is not a caring or competent doctor. Neither he nor office staff return calls and they do not seem concerned for their patient!s welfare. I suffered a major back injury due to a fall. After months of being unable to move and suffering level 8,9, 10 pain daily, Dr. Blackwood continued to refuse to order an MRI or give me medicines to help. Thankfully I found another Doctor Who took the time to listen and care and got me the MRI and other testing I needed to discover I had severely shredded my disc and my tailbone. I ended up with two major surgeries. If i had stayed wiry this doctor i would still be suffering! I do not want ANYONE to go through what i went through due to lack of competence and care. Additionally I found out I had multiple food allergies/sensitivities affecting my overall health, something Dr. Blackwood never even considered despite me having many of the symptoms. My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Blackwood for 12 or 13 years. I would describe Dr. Blackwood as a "personable professional". He is genuine in his care for people while at the same time a total professional on the medical side of the relationship. If he finds the need to refer you to a specialist, it's executed with a calm sense of urgency. I find that with, a few exceptions, his staff reflects the same professionalism as he. I've been coming to this office for a few years. I've had to change doctors about 3 times because Dr. Blackwood may be permanent but the rest of the staff has rotated quite a bit. If you don't mind a flaky phlebotomist and an unapologetic staff that sets up appointments that they can never seem to be on time for, this place is awesome. My last 3 visits, my doctor was 45 minutes late seeing me, I waited 1.5 hours to get blood drawn because of a computer problem (no apology or even an acknowledgement from them) and today the doctor was 30 minutes late so I just walked out. It's not like I set the appointment times...they do. Maybe retired folks a housewives don't mind waiting a half hour past their appointment time but I'm over it. Avoid seeing Robert Blackwood at all costs. He used to be my doctor until I became very sick and he could not figure out why. I underwent dozens of inconclusive tests all the while Robert Blackwood was extremely rude, and disrespectful to me. Because he could not understand what was causing my symptoms he came to the conclusion that he was done searching . He simply dismissed me saying take anti-depressants. Come to find out I am a text-book case of a conditional called Fibromyalgia.
