The surgery went well, not very hard to make appointments. One concern is, on the request form (provided by their office), we requested to keep the 4 wisdom teeth but they threw them away. When we asked about it, we were told "they are in the biohazard waste and no way we can get it back". No one double checked the forms and requests, and you would concern if they will make other mistakes like that and hope it was minor ones. read more

I was referred to Dr. Ferdowsmakan to get my wisdom tooth removed. I have done this procedure before but at my previous dentist; however, one was remaining due to the complexity of the case. The office was very welcoming when I came in and was very understanding when I initially had to reschedule my appointment. I would consider myself a very good patient in terms of not disliking or being scared of going to a dental/doctor's office and very compliant with anything that needs to be done. The actual procedure itself was done through local anesthesia and it went very smoothly despite how close the tooth was to my nerve. Dr. Ferdowsmakan did not take long at all and was nothing short of professional. He made me feel cared for and followed up throughout the entire procedure to make sure I was doing fine. I am the type of person to ask a lot of questions as well, which he always answered willingly. A Cautionary Experience to Consider When you're in severe pain and seeking urgent medical care, clarity, ethics, and compassion matter. Unfortunately, my recent experience left me questioning the priorities of one dental office. I was referred by my dentist to an endodontist for an emergency root canal. In my distressed state--barely able to think due to the pain--I mistakenly walked into the office of Dr. Robert Ferdowsmakan, an oral surgeon located next door to the intended specialist. I handed over my referral, which clearly listed the correct practice and included a large logo. Rather than redirecting me, the receptionist began explaining their own services and mentioned a $500 exam fee, even though I stated I had insurance and a referral. She then informed me that they do not accept my insurance. I never realized I was in the wrong office. I was forced to leave in great pain and try to find a new doctor that would take my insurance. Every minute of that type of pain is horror and it took me hours. Precious time was lost while I remained in extreme pain, trying to find the right provider who could actually help me. Meanwhile, the actual endodontist was waiting for me next door on an emergency basis. This experience was not just frustrating but deeply disappointing. In moments of vulnerability, we rely on medical professionals to guide us, not upsell or delay necessary care. A simple acknowledgment of the mistake could have saved me hours of unnecessary suffering. Before choosing any healthcare provider, I encourage others to consider not just skill, but ethics, integrity, and patient-first values. read more

I went to see dr ferdowsmakan on a recommendation from my dentist. After about a 5 minute consultation, (after waiting half an hour) he recommended a partial-type implant system. It wasn't my preferred solution but I asked him to draw up a quote for me any way, just incase other surgeons recommended the same solution (I have significant bone loss). My insurance was hit with a bill for $225 so I reached out to them for the quote they said they would provide. I was told they never intended to provide the quote and in his notes, the dr said there is nothing they can do for me. Don't go here if you value your time, money and have significant bone loss. They will take your $225 and you'll get squat for it. read more

Terrible customer service, bedside manner, and a frustrating experience. Our daughter was scheduled with Dr Ferdowsmakan for a relatively simple procedure. She became nervous when she realized that she would be needing a shot for the local anesthetic. MD/staff prematurely determined she was not fit for the procedure without a specialized sedation that their out of network provider provides for a $1500 fee. Our daughter let us know that they would not listen to her when she repeatedly asked to please let her continue with the local anesthetic once she was able to process what was needed for the procedure. They also refused to at least attempt administering local anesthetic despite our requests. According to them the only option is paying a $1500 fee for this specialist which makes no sense other than to force this ridiculous fee on patients. If they are not trained or prepared to take care of children, they should not be taking pediatric cases. read more

I had my procedure almost 2 weeks ago, I was very nervous (which is why I took years to finally set up an appt) but Dr.F was incredibly patient and easy to talk to along with his staff! I calmed down and was reassured that they will be with me every step of the way. I'm still currently healing, Friday (4/7/23) will mark the 2nd week. I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Ferdowsmakan with only novacaine and nitrous oxide and didn't feel a thing. My coworker recommended him and she also had hers removed with only local anesthetic to save money on her copay. I too wanted to save some $$ and buy a luxury handbag so I opted out of going under for my surgery. What a great decision! Dr. F was efficient, gentle, kind and soft-spoken. I don't write reviews unless I feel people need to know, good or bad. I couldn't be more impressed with this office/doctor. We were informed that my 16 year old needed to have his wisdom teeth out with in the next two months (is what we were told by our dentist). We made an appt here and were seen within two days for a consult. We went it and we were told it would be a very straight forward procedure. I felt the doctor had an extremely considerate bedside manner. I had expressed wanting him to come in when it was not going to conflict with his school schedule. We were directed to the front desk and as much as my son wasn't in to me asking if they possibly had a cancellation for the following day, I did anyway. The staff arranged the schedule and my son was in and out that next morning within 45 mins of arrival, (wisdom teeth mind you). We were home icing and relaxing in the comfort of our own home for the remainder of the day. My son did not experience any nausea, and zero swelling. I am going to absolutely attribute the doctor. Couldn't say nicer things about this office. They were all very professional, the office was clean, and the doctor called in the afternoon to check to see how my son was doing. I also had to call the office twice to just asked stupid questions bc I wasn't sure about a couple of things right after we left. They never made me feel uncomfortable or lame for asking (even though it was all written in the paperwork they handed me when we left. And they did go over it all with me, but I wasn't truly focused bc I was watching my son giggle off the gas.) Awesome experience! I will be back with my younger son for sure!!!! read more

Update: my lip and left chin are still numb and I have temperature sensitivity to this day! 4 years later. I am now going with Dr. Joel Berger for any of my oral needs. Again, the most frustrating part of it all was no mention of this risk. He provided no solutions to the problem such a vitamin b-12 to try to regenerate the nerve. It's called paresthesia. It can be a few months, years or permanent. I do have hope that one day the nerve will heal itself. Overall it doesn't affect my quality of life except when biting into something warm and my left side of my mouth burns it feels liked biting into food right out of the kitchen. I have read horror stories and it could have been much worse. Luckily speech is not impaired and I've learn to live with it. read more

Wow! I can't say enough great things about Dr. Ferdowsmakan and his wonderful office. From my very first phone call to our most recent post-op visit, everything was absolutely perfect. We just recently moved to the area and my daughter needed her wisdom teeth removed. They made time to see us right away, sent over all of the forms to be completed electronically ahead of the visit, had extremely safe Covid protocols and procedures, and got us in for the extractions that same week. I had a surgery schedule and I have severe anxiety about surgeries and have also never had one done. I had a very mild panic attack before my surgery and they had asked me to leave. I tried to reschedule my appointment and they had said no. I sent a very kind apology email explaining my anxiety and they agreed to reschedule it. Then the week of my surgery they called to cancel again due to my anxiety at my first appointment. Unfortunately they are not empathetic and very cold and rude here. I was referred to an oral surgeon by 2 dentists, the second referral from the wonderful dentist upstairs from Dr Ferdowsmakan's office, Gentle Dentistry. Dr. Ferdowsmakan is compassionate and gentle. Although it appeared in x-ray to be a complicated extraction, he gently got the tooth out in just a few minutes. And the next day he called me himself, not one of his kind and most helpful staff! This is the bad place to start with, receptionist are not being professional. They are not friendly and rude and liars. Over the phone they said appt at 3pm. Dr. Ferdowsmakan is very honest. He is also extremely competent and responsive. My husband found him through online review and had very good expereince when he received the treatment. Later, we also took our daughter who had infection to see him. When asking if she needed to have all 4 wisdom teeth extracted, Dr. Ferdowsmakan gave us his suggestions based on what's the best for the patient and how to minimize the suffering. The surgery went quicky and smoothly. In the evening following the surgery, my daughter got worried because she felt that something got into the pocket. We called the doctor and he called us right back to give clear instructions. We were so happy that my daughter did not suffer any pain or complication. She was able to eat the day after. read more

Dr. Robert was my oral surgeon for about 3 years and 4 surgeries. I had to have dental implants done which was complicated by the fact that it was due to being born missing two permanent teeth, therefore I had very little to no bone density in the front of my jaw. He removed my wisdom teeth in the first surgery, and it was as good of an experience as that can be. The anesthesia worked perfectly, he took the time to answer all of my questions about that and my other future surgeries, and really made the effort to get to know me. My first bone graft (2nd surgery) didn't take partly because I didn't let my body take enough time to heal right off the bat. I had to have a second one done 7 months later, which Dr. Robert did completely free of charge because he doesn't charge for subsequent bone grafts. This included anesthesia. This experience showed me that he's not in the business for only the money. My fourth and final surgery was the dental implant one (basically two screws into my jaw). He was more attentive to my needs and reservations than my dentists were, and again the surgery healed perfectly (I learned my lesson the first time). Dr. Robert always called the night of the surgery day to check in on me as well as a week later to do so again. He returned calls with questions the same or next day even when I called on Christmas Eve because a stitch came out (again, my fault for not resting my mouth) I would never think of seeing anyone else for oral surgery and HIGHLY recommend him! read more

I had Dr. Ferdowsmakan remove all four of my wisdom teeth in one go. I was to be under anesthesia and completely knocked out for the entire procedure, thank god. There was actually a slight complication with my back teeth because they were growing in horizontally, which made me very nervous but the Dr. helped comfort my nerves and reassured me that it should pose no additional risks of infections or anything. Seeing as how dentists terrify me and I have a low threshold for pain.. I felt as though I was a death row inmate walking to the chair when I went in for my surgery. I was very nervous but his assistant was very friendly and understanding. She even held my hand as I loosened up with laughing gas (I know I'm a big baby), then had me count backwards from 10 as I began dozing off. I don't remember even getting to 8 before I was completely out. When I awoke I was very groggy but had one of my good friends there to drive me home. Dr. Ferdowsmakan's assistant wheeled me out to the front of the building in a wheelchair, which was great because I probably couldn't take 5 steps on my own. They gave me a prescription for meds and first stop after my procedure, the pharmacy. Of course, I anticipated great pain in my near future so I wanted to make sure I was stocked up. But it turns out I barely even took any pills. I used some of my hydrocodone to help with the pain in the first 2-3 days after the surgery, but after that I was fine. The swelling was very minimal and only noticeable during the immediate days after surgery. I went in for a 2 week follow up and my wounds were healing up great. I was also given a plastic syringe to clean out food particles that may fall into the grooves that were still closing up. Of course I had researched all sorts of things that could go wrong with wisdom teeth extraction but I was reassured that I was doing great and simply to continue with a diet free of crunchy foods with "sharp" edges (like chips). I've heard of some really terrible wisdom teeth stories, but luckily that's not how my experience panned out and I give Dr. Ferdowsmakan a lot of credit for that! read more

One wouldn't typically use the words 'pleasant' to describe wisdom teeth extraction, but thanks to Dr. Ferdowsmakan and his staff, I felt this was a really nice and easy, oral surgery. When we first met, he took the time to answer all my questions and at the end of the appointment, the staff had all the procedure prices ready to show me. No hidden fees, all the prices were right there and it was pretty affordable, which was really, really great. I paid in advance and then booked my surgery. For a few weeks, everybody I talked to about the surgery told me of their terrible wisdom teeth experience, with swelling, intense pain, dry socket, the whole 9 yards. And admittedly, I was nervous before the appointment. I went under with anesthesia and had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. Afterwords, I was groggy, iced my face a lot, but for the most part, I had absolutely no pain, no swelling and was up and doing chores the next day. At the end of the day after the surgery, Dr. Ferdowsmakan called me just to see how I was doing and gave me some suggestion on how to sleep and what to eat, which was really nice. I was actually even surprised he called, no one ever does that! I highly recommend going to Torrey Hill Oral Surgery, the office is very clean, the staff is great and Dr. Ferdowsmakan is a top notch oral surgeon. read more

This is one of the most friendliest & competent Dr.s you will ever find! Usually, Dr.s of his caliber can be quite intimidating, but he actually took the time to answer all of my questions...even on the phone. One of his best qualities is he's patience and ability to make you feel like he genuinely cares. Also, he is very professional & good at what he does. Because of this, I didn't care what the cost was...but surprisingly, he is very affordable! Also, I love that he works with Scripps (my fav SD hospital). I feel good knowing my $ is going to such an awesome team! The staff here are very professional & prompt when it comes to inquires and so warm & friendly. I've had 2 surgeries with him & in the unfortunate case I need to go back, I'm happy I don't need to waste time looking for another surgeon. This review is way past due, but I had such a positive experience and recovery so I figure better late than never! I had 5 wisdom teeth removed in June of 2015. The entire staff from the ladies at the front desk, Dr. F and his assistants were SO kind and reassuring. This was my first time undergoing anesthesia so I was very nervous but I could not have asked for a better experience. Dr. F answers all of your questions and you can tell he knows what he's doing/loves what he does. The ladies at the front desk were knowledgeable and explained to me the estimated costs and various options for surgery. Surgery went well.. Just do as the Doctor says.. Take the antibiotics, remain NPO and definitely fill your pain prescription before surgery cause once the anesthesia wears off.. You do not want to be sitting in a crowded pharmacy waiting for your script. I had my check up appt within a week (I believe) and I felt Dr. F genuinely cared about my recovery. The holes in my mouth closed in about a month or so & during that time, the syringe they give you to wash out all the trapped food in those holes, was my BEST FRIEND. I seriously would advise you to not go anywhere without it because the trapped food is such an uncomfortable feeling, well for me at least. I just got my wisdom teeth removed on Sept. 24, and I am so happy Dr. Ferdowsmakan did my procedure. The idea of having any type of surgery frightened me, so I kept putting it off. However, after I met Dr. Ferdowsmakan and got to know him more, I became very comfortable with him because he is very knowledgeable and is truly an expert at his craft. Dr. Ferdowsmakan is highly recognized for his work in the community, and I love the fact that he works with kids. Additionally, Dr. Ferdowsmakan's calm demeanor is so soothing and reassuring. When I came into surgery, I was a little nervous but was confident I was in good hands. Dr. Ferdowsmakan and his Surgical Assistant Marguerite talked me through the entire process. They were so kind and supportive, regardless of whether I felt silly for being scared of such a common procedure. I had an infected wisdom tooth that made it hard for me to talk or eat, and I needed to have removed. After searching tons of reviews, I decided to go to Dr. Ferdowsmakan. I was pretty nervous about getting my teeth removed after hearing horror stories from my friends and co-workers of chipmunk cheeks and month-long liquid diets. When I went in for my consultation, my infected tooth made it hard for me to open my mouth all the way, so I mumbled through the preliminary Q&A, and cringed a little when I was told they didn't have an open appointment until a week later. To my relief, Dr. Ferdowsmakan wrote me prescriptions for a rinse that would help the infection as well as enough pain killers to get me through the week - what a saint! When it came to the actual surgery, Dr. Ferdowsmakan's assistant gave me a muscle relaxer and then plugged me into the nitrous oxide, and I felt GREAT! Dr. Ferdowsmakan checked on me throughout the surgery to make sure he was hitting all the right places with local anesthetic. The procedure was painless and relatively quick, and I was actually back at work the next day with minimal swelling - nobody believed I really had all four wisdom teeth pulled! Overall, I had a great experience. Dr. Ferdowsmakan was a great surgeon, and he was completely down to earth. He even called the next day to make sure I was doing well. I am highly impressed with Dr. Ferdowsmakan. I had several consultations before deciding to have Dr. Ferdowsmakan do my dental implant surgery. I am young and unfortunately had some trauma to a tooth which required it to be extracted, to be followed by an implant. My daughter first went to Dr. Ferdowsmakan in July 2013 to have a baby tooth removed, and a procedure done to help pull the impacted permanent tooth into place (an expose and bond). We were referred by our orthodontist, and are so glad she sent us there. Dr. Ferdowsmakan was patient and professional and explained things so well, he made my daughter feel less nervous about the procedure. The staff is awesome too. After the procedure, he called personally the following day as others have mentioned in their reviews. We had to go back this week because the bracket on the permanent tooth came loose, and so the procedure needed to be redone. Dr. Ferdowsmakan took care of it at no charge, and was so friendly and helpful. He again called personally to follow up, and worked with us to ensure that my daughter has the right pain medication. You can tell he really cares about his patients. What tells me how great he is was hearing my 14 year old tell her sister that if either of them need their wisdom teeth out she wants to go to Dr. Ferdowsmakan.
