During the course of my 2 year divorce, Dr Fox was the agreed psychologist court ordered to see our two sons. Dr Fox told me he did not accept insurance for court ordered cases and the hourly rate was $200/hour. I paid this rate for approximately 2 years, cash, for my 2 boys. $400/week for 2 years. Turns out, this was against the rules he agreed to with my insurance company, he should have only charged me the $25 copay for each visit. When I brought this to his attention, he apologized, submitted a statement to the insurance company, collected his fee from them (on top of my $200/hour) and moved on. I am out approximately $14,000 and Dr Fox received additional payments from insurance for 3 months times 2 every week for those 3 months. He was double billing for those 3 months. Insurance will only pay on claims in the last 90 days. Dr Fox is a double billing scam. Do not trust this man in financial matters. I would like to add, Dr Fox was always more supportive of me than the father, he clearly saw the abusive nature of the family dynamic. I write this because what he did was shitty, he did not "wrong" me in the courts, he saw an opportunity to money grab and took it. read more

Worst therapist. Highly confrontational. Only interested in long term billing with champva. Refuses to disclose treatment plan because he doesn't have one. Has caused significant damage to my child. We have found this therapist to be unorganized, unethical and uncooperative! He has caused a great deal of harm to our family through his unethical practices and through my research, I have found that we are not the first family that has been hurt. Fox was sued in civil court, San Diego, for favoring one parent over the other and had to pay out a hefty settlement. I am sure there will be some that will compliment this therapist., especially if you are the favored parent. Unfortunately, the child is always the victim. I have been visiting Dr. Fox on and off for several years now. He has been a pillar of support for me from my parents divorce to my ongoing battle with depression. Going into his office for the first time, I was a closed off, withdrawn child who did not understand the value of opening up to others. Dr. Fox provided me a place to vent all of the frustrations I had kept inside. Looking back, I feel like he knew the proper techniques to connect with with such close minded people because over time, he helped me tear down the walls I had built around myself and pushed me to connect with others. Even as I matured into a young adult, he pushed me to pursue my better self. I found our later conversations to be very enlightening, as I was able to speak with him seriously on a philosophical level. Through our discussions, I was able to understand Dr. Fox's level of education. This was especially important to me because it allowed me to have intellectually stimulating conversations I wouldn't have otherwise. I would always be able to take away some form of knowledge that would change my perception of the world. That being said, my appointments were just as much an educational experience as they were therapeutic. Was every visit productive? I'll be honest, they weren't. There were some appointments that were filled completely with small talk and awkward silences. However, therapy is a time consuming process. I went to Dr. Fox when I was a kid. My parents were getting divorced and there was abuse from my mother going on at home. I was extremely closed off because I was young and had gone through a lot and was in an uncomfortable environment. He never made me feel comfortable and when I told him I didn't like him he responded telling me he didn't like me either. One of the few psychodynamic psychologists around, and probably the best, Dr. Fox has been instrumental in helping me to work through the past and move on to the future. I can't say enough about him. My child has been seeing Dr. Fox for many years and although there are times when I think Dr. Fox could do a better job (and we've had some heated disagreements), I have yet to doubt that he doesn't have my child's best interest at heart. Keep in mind that "therapy" isn't exact science or success and failure able to be measured black and white like a surgeon removing a tumor. Show me a therapist that hasn't been sued and I'll show you a therapist who's new to the profession or avoids patients with crazy parents. With his limited availability due to high demand, I like to believe that Dr. Fox continues to deal with my child's "crazy divorced parents" and has not dropped my child for an "easier" patient because he truly cares about my child. Either that or there are crazier parents out there. Dr. Fox might not be the right therapist for you but don't automatically avoid him because of a lawsuit in 2007. It's the parent's responsibility to search for the best therapist FOR THEIR CHILD. And let's also address the elephant in the room - the best therapist do not accept insurance and are "cash only". Unless you can afford to pay cash, our options are limited. I would recommend Dr. Fox without hesitation. He was my daughter's therapist during a difficult child custody case. There were no winners or losers in the case, save for my daughter. His therapy allowed her to come to terms with the situation she faced, in a healthy and beneficial manner. I went to Dr. Fox for about two years. I did not feel I was getting better. He was not communicating with my psychiatrist regarding my medications. I feel this is important because, I was getting so many medications from my psychiatrist. I was still suffering from anxiety and depression. He NEVER gave me any ideas on how to control my anxiety. He asked me about my sex life everytime I came to see him. I never once said my sex live was causing me stress. It might have needed help but, in the grand scheme of things, it was not at the top of my list. I was unable to work due to anxiety for two months. Sex was not a priority. He would stare at me when I was talking and I felt like he was not listening. He never met my husband. If I said my husband did something that bothered me, he would feed into that and actually make me feel worse. I could see how he would give more support to one parent over the other for no appearant reason. I changed Therapists. After six months with my new Therapist, I feel so much better. I feel like the two years of seeing Dr. Fox was a waste of my time. He is very unorganized. His office is a mess to say the least. I tried to overlook all of that. It should have been a warning. He was late all the time. How can you take advice from someone who does not seem to have their life in control? There is a door to the building of his office that you have to enter first. That door is locked after a certain time of the day. Dr. Fox would not come out and open the door in time for my appointment. If he knows his schedule, why would he let me wait out there? So irritating. I can not advise anyone to see Dr. Fox. It was a waste of my time. read more

I stumbled upon these unfavorable reviews and the first thing that struck me is that the author sounds disgruntled about the outcome of a court case, and appears to be blaming that outcome on one thing ( or person) rather than the multitude of factors that go into child custody determinations. Secondly I am a health care professional and I can honestly say I don't know any good practitioners that hasn't been sued at least once. That being said, when I look up Dr. Fox's license with the CA Board of Behavioral Health, his license is clear, in good standing, and they report that no actions have ever been taken. I am not a patient of Dr. Fox's but my husband has seen him off and on for a few years and it has been helpful. I would encourage anyone reading these types of reviews on medical professionals to take them with a grain of salt and do your own research, especially when the reviewer doesn't appear to be objective or is angry about a court outcome. Let's face it, if a custody hearing gets to the point where there's a court ordered evaluation, someone isn't going to be happy with the findings. read more
