We had the best experience with Dr. Waguespack and his team! My sister needed a TURBT to stage her bladder tumor. During her preop appointment, he took a lot of time to clearly and precisely explain the procedure and what she could expect during her postop recovery. He answered all of our questions and made us feel less anxious about her diagnosis and more comfortable with her needed procedure. As far as the procedure itself, his expertise and skill level in obtaining the tissue sample was so precise, they were able to clearly stage her tumor which allows her to now get the best treatment and follow up for her recovery. She had minimal pain/discomfort after the procedure and Dr.Waguespack has been in contact with her to monitor her recovery and progress. His kind words, calm demeanor, reassurance and professionalism throughout all of this has been so comforting and encouraging. We are also very thankful for the amazing help we received from his office staff, especially Kim, who was in constant communication with my sister and made sure she had all the necessary paperwork completed and appointment times arranged so that she could get this done. Kim answered a lot of questions and provided a lot of information and support. Thank you so, so much to her. We cannot thank Dr. Waguespack enough for all that he has done for us!! I got referred over to Dr. Waguespack and I was a bit nervous, especially reading some of the reviews. I don't get it, Dr. Waguespack was friendly and very professional with me. He answered all of my questions, did some diagnostics that day and gave me all the information. He gave me a pat on the shoulder, told me he was glad I was doing better and told me to stay in touch if anything changed. I felt really comfortable with him and felt like he cared about my concerns and addressed them all. I'll see him again anytime and feel confident I'll get great care. read more

Worst care ever. Office staff is the worst. Doctor called me a liar and then told me to find another doctor

I'm actually blown away at the reviews that say Dr Dubb is mean, rude or uncaring. My wife has been seeing him for years and he's always been amazing. We even joke that when things are bad or stressful, we just need to have Dr Dubb tell her that everything will be okay as he pats her on the shoulder. He's very compassionate and obviously cares about his patients. The office staff is great too. We first dealt with him and his office after my wife had been mistreated by another doctor in town who couldn't perform a lithotripsy because her infection had gotten so bad due to his incompetence. She waited over a week before getting the procedure scheduled AND he failed to prescribe the antibiotic that he said he would. He started the procedure and gave up due to the infection that he failed to treat and he just left the surgery center. Anyway, Dr Dubb and his staff got her in quickly and was able to get her stones removed and recovering within a couple days! My mother recommended him to me; I called his office and the lady (I believe Diane) literally said "don't worry, we'll take care of her". And they did! I've never known of any office/doctor that treats new, never before seen patients like they are long time friends. My wife gets stones about once a year, so we've seen Dubb a fair amount over the last few years and he's never been anything but sweet and caring (along with doing a good job as a doctor, of course). Anyway, to sum it up I'll just say this. I shouldn't ever need a vasectomy. But if I do, Dr Dubb would be the only person I'd trust with my nuts... read more

Dr. Wasuespack is the most compassionate physician I have ever encountered. I have been under his care for about 3 years now. He is soft spoken, caring, and always makes patient care a priority. Sometimes just seeing him and being reassured that everything will be ok helps in a medical emergency. Under his care - it always is. His office staff always remembers patients and follows Dr. W's mindset and climate. They always follow through on what's promised. Even when I have ended up in the hospital due to my kidney issues; I always know that Dr. W will provide my care. I cannot say enough good things about this doctor and his entire staff. This is the worst dr ever!!!! I had made an appointment went in for my consultation which was less than 5 minutes. Had to cancel and they still charged me 233 for his 5 minutes. I would never recommend this guy. My opinion, He doesn't know what he is doing. He proposed a procedure Urolift that would get me off flow max I was taking for my enlarged prostate. He Said it was an easy in and out procedure that could be done in his office with local anesthesia. I'd be awake during the treatment. I have never been tortured by a person before this . He was to install 4 clips . The pain was beyond any pain I've ever experienced. I began screaming after the first one . He told me I was crybaby and to hold still . I tried to, I couldn't help it, it was the most painful thing I've ever gone through. He had a tube in my penis and literally mashed the head of my penis on the table to hold it still while he proceeded. I screamed for about 10min while he did this. The whole time he kept telling me I needed to stop screaming as there was other patients in his office. Needless to say the procedure did not work. It only made things worse. I could not hold my urine back and pissed myself many times trying to make it to the bathroom. It took about two years for the head of my penis to stop hurting. He wanted me to take two more pills after he said he was going to get me off one. He is such a rude person and tries to divert his incompetence onto his patient. I suffered with prostate issues for a few years before I found a wonderful doctor that helped me who is very kind and gentle. DO NOT SEE THIS SO CALLED DOCTOR HE TORTURED ME. Where do I even start!! Today I saw why this doctor has two stars. He deserves zero, I wish that was possible. Before you go here, read the reviews. It's all true what they say. My husband had a Vasectomy from this Doctor many years ago. We had no problems with him, it was more the staff up front that was rude. We let it go because he was nice at the time. He explained things and made my husband feel comfortable with the upcoming procedure. Today we had an appointment for my son. We checked in on Yelp and saw that he has two stars. I thought it has to be because of his staff. Nope, majority is because of his attitude. I was honestly surprised. Well today he showed his true colors, He was rude, flip, and arrogant. It took everything I had not to say to him that this is the reason you have 2 stars on Yelp!!! I regretted all day not confronting him. I will not go into exact details for the privacy of a minor. I think reading reviews on his page will give you an idea of his attitude I think I saw somebody mention that there is limited Urologist in Bakersfield. My father was diagnosed with colon cancer and a bladder mass, suspected to be cancer. He was supposed to undergo a procedure to address both issues and 3 days prior to the procedure, Dr Waguespack informed my father that he would not be doing the procedure because he owed a $170 bill from 2 years ago. The bill had been sent the wrong address for the past 2 years. My father paid the bill immediately, the day that Dr. Waguespack cancelled his procedure. Dr Waguespack is refusing to see my father for this procedure at all, even though there is a high likelihood that he has a cancerous bladder mass. He has absolutely NO compassion, cancelling a procedure for a cancer patient with 3 days notice over $170 bill. I'm disgusted by this doctor and recommend any patients who may be considering him to RUN. read more

Unfortunately not enough characters to leave my full review. I had an appointment for a vasectomy consultation scheduled for months. When I showed up, his office staff was extremely rude to me and my employee (who was just trying to use the bathroom while he waited). Turns out, even though I was a patient, they didn't submit the claim for approval. Told me "it wasn't their job" to call the insurance and submit a claim. Dr. Waguespack has a great reputation for being a good surgeon, but his office staff is a complete mess. When I confronted his office staff about the insurance authorization and said I would pay cash, he stepped out of his office and said he wouldn't see me. He's just another doctor with a rude office staff who promotes that type of culture in the medical field. Time to retire. read more

I was initially hesitant given the reviews. I couldn't have been more surprised. I was scheduled for an appointment at 12:30pm. From filling out new patient paperwork to checkout I was about before 1:10pm. Dr. W came into the exam room shook my hand and got down to business. He knew why I was there and even brought up another issue that I had forgot I had even inquired about in my request for consultation on the web. He was professional and informative. Like no joke those bad reviews were false and had I listened to them I would have missed out on getting to see first hand how nice this doctor is. I would avoid this office and doctor at all costs. He is pedantic and curt when asked for clarification, and his staff forgot to follow-up on a prescription that was vital to my well being. I've read the reviews, and all I can tell you is that they don't at all reflect my experience with Dr. Waguespack and his office. I was referred to Dr. Waguespack by an acquaintance, as well as a former happy patient of his. I made an appointment for a consultation for a vasectomy, and while I was nervous and uncomfortable about being there for the type of procedure, Dr. Waguespack made me feel at ease. He was friendly, and helpful to answer any questions or concerns I had. On the day of the surgery, he put me very much at ease with his relaxed but professional style. I appreciate how he made sure I was okay throughout the procedure. He was very gentle, and by the time I realized the anesthesia had been delivered, he was done. Husband has been a patient of Dr. Waguespack. Tried to make an appointment yesterday only to be told you have to go to your primary care to have current records sent to the doctor so he knows why you are being seen. We DO NOT have an HMO. We DO NOT require a referral. If a physician cannot make an independent evaluation without having to rely on another physicians note's I STRONGLY encourage you to seek care elsewhere. My 71 year old dad had his prostate removed due to cancer. Recently he's had problems urinating and noticed blood in his urine. My dad was referred to Waguespack to be evaluated. Of course being worried, my dad called Waguespacks office three times due to his primary stating he needed to be evaluated as soon as possible. Well, my dad found out that Waguespack doesn't like for you to call his office more than once and personally called my dad back to tell him exactly that. Needless to say we will go to another doctor. Waguespack and his staff are entitled pieces of work and hopefully they will one day get treated like they treat their patients. I would like to first start off by saying that i read the reviews for Dr. Waguespack before i went into see him and i still gave him a chance even though 95% of the reviews were awful. I was not impressed with him at all he was extremely dismissive and seemed to no absolutely nothing about interstitial cystitis even though i was clear on the phone that it was what i needed to be seen for. The girls in the office were extremely rude and i had to call after 3 days of waiting for a referral to go see another doctor that specializes in this condition. The girl who answered the phone hung up on me after making excuses that they have other patients. I am aware of that but, they told me it would be sent over the day i left there! After my second kid was born I got the feeling that all of you guys with 3 kids have and that is oh **** I need to call Dr. whack a sack. The only difference is my wife actually did! Clutch phone call on her part. When I went in to the "week before appointment" I was a little nervous, doc assured me everything would go fine and was very thorough with the operation details. The day of the operation everything went exactly as he prepared me for, a couple shots that I would compare to the feeling you have when you go to the dentist and then I didn't feel anything else. The whole procedure took about 15 minutes and I was sore for a week or so. Honestly sounds worse than it really is. I have kidney stones and this doctor says that's not what is causing pain in my kidneys and couldn't tell me what is causing pain in my kidneys and tells me to refer to my primary care physician... I have had to wait a few weeks before posting to clear my mind on the experience. The most civil review I can offer is that... I have never in my life met a more unprofessional health practitioner. I thought that maybe my experience had been unique, because his behavior was so outrageous, until I shared with friends who work in the medical field. He is well known for losing his temper both with patients and with medical staff. Especially when dealing with women, especially when anyone asks him to clarify anything. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes past my scheduled appointment, with no other patients in sight, I asked him if we had been double booked. His immediate response was "I believe you'd be a better fit with a different office then yeah?" before launching into a belittling tirade about how I "couldn't possibly understand that he's a busy man". He had no recollection of ordering a KUB for me a month prior, or having me drop off kidney stone samples in person to his office for analysis, and would not read me my lab results (the purpose of my appointment) until I asked him twice and then he checked with his receptionist to see if I had made it up. I understand just fine sir, you do not value your patients. You value you. A full transcript of my office visit has been sent to the California State Medical Board. First time at this office. Receptionist was curt and condescending. From the moment she came to front desk, she was dry and curt. I have 2 insurances (husband's was primary when I didn't have my own, when I got my own, mine became primary). I handed them both cards and told them which was primary. They called the secondary who told them they were primary...I told them if it was an issue to just plain remove it, but they refused. I asked the receptionist why they wouldn't just call my insurance. "I'm just doing what Doctor told he told me to." They refused to even call my own insurance to verify what I was telling them. read more

I live a few hundred miles away and requested time off work to visit this doctor only to be told, "We need to reschedule" which was super inconsiderate, I made a lot changes at work to make this happen. In my lifetime, I've had care from GP's, specialists, surgeons, etc. But I have never met a physician so outright unpleasant as this man. I didn't get my questions answered, he cut me off twice when I tried to give him information, and when I tried to relay something from a previous provider, he snapped "I don't care what they had to say". I left his office with no better understanding of my condition, no remedy, nor any prospect of a course of treatment. It was a complete waste of my time and money. By comparison, when I subsequently sought out a replacement Bakersfield urologist, on just the first appointment, I left with a greater informed knowledge of my condition, an adjustment to my medication, orders for tests, and a discussed path of treatment. When I mentioned Dr.W to the subsequent urologist, that doctor just shook their head and stated they had had a steady flow of complaining patients for YEARS from Dr.W's office. And when I explained that I did not contact Dr.W's office for my exam notes for my new appointment, the new urologist said that not only would Dr.W's uncooperative office staff not have sent them, but even if they had, the new doctor wouldn't even have read them. Another example: When I asked Dr.W a basic question about a previously-prescribed medication, he replied "I don't know". The new urologist not only instantly knew the answer, but stated no experienced urologist would not know, as it is one of the most widely prescribed medications for my condition. So, I don't know if Dr.W just hates his job, or just has an innate disdain for human beings, or is just a plain outright dick. But he should consider taking his medical degree, knowledge and experience and go be a researcher or something, ANY other medical industry-aligned position where he doesn't come into contact with people who need care. Hey, don't just believe me, read the rest of the reviews here, i.e., the female patient who told him to his face in the middle of an exam she was going to report him for elder abuse: I hope you followed thru, ma'am. And if you are reading this after-the-fact, like me, if you were referred to Dr.W and had a similar experience, you should contact the provider who referred you to him and not only relate your experience, but encourage them to read the reviews posted here: NOBODY should be referring patients to this doctor. And yes, there are other perfectly competent urologists in Bakersfield, so my advice: Find someone else. read more

I will start with ..Yes I have read the reviews before even going here but being here in Bakersfield we as men don't really have many choices when it comes to a vasectomy and if you look the other ones have around the same reviews. So made my appointment and had my consultation and the Doctor was great explained everything that would happen and how it would happen step by step..but still was hesitant about getting a vasectomy..I am a guy and I dont want anything cut or opened down there so it took a few months to finally make the appointment and why not December to get it done..went in on the day of my appointment and yes nervous as can be ..my fiance drove me and waited for me..was taken to room and told to get ready..even the nurse saw I was nervous and made me feel better by putting me in a bigger room..lol..the wait while your on the bed felt like it was forever but it wasn't just my nerves and when he came in again friendly and explained it all again to me and what he was doing while he was doing it..vasectomy procedure was simple and fast some pain from needle to numb areas but other than that.it was more in my mind on nerves and what would happen to my jingle balls.so YES to all you men out there..Dr Wag is a really good Doctor straight to the point on explaining procedure and when it came to the vasectomy..Thank You Dr Wag and front office. read more

He gets one because there's no option for a zero. Worse experience of my life, got a post op infection 9 days after surgery. He didnt bother to get a culture and gave me some random antibiotics. Three days later ended up in the E.R because no one was in his office at 1:40pm on a friday and infection got worse. On my first post op visit he made it seem like it was no big deal and rolled his eyes at me and my wife. Dr. Waguespack was recommended to me by a couple work colleagues. Him and his staff are wonderful people. Very lighthearted and a great sense of humor. I went in for a vasectomy and the whole procedure took maybe 10 minutes. He helped keep me calm by talking about baseball and family. He is very informative, very thorough, and a pleasure to talk to.
