I had a exceptional facial today from Emily at this studio. It was my first time there. I was greeted warmly at the front desk. Everyone wore masks and hand sanitizer was available. There were clear markings that helped identify social distancing. I enjoyed the facial. It was a nice one hour aromatherapy experience. The price was also much more reasonable than I would have assumed. Worth a visit for a facial! I'll have to try some of the other services. A nice local establishment on Downer. read more

Robert Laurence is a chic, classy, clean full service salon and spa in the heart of Shorewood. I came here last week for a pedicure and it was just what I needed. Making an appointment was very easy and I was able to get in at my preferred time. When I arrived I was greeted and offered water, coffee or tea. The glass ware they have is so awesome, I am now in search of something similar! They have 1 pedicure and 1 manicure station in the back corner. The pedicure station is not like what you find in the "mall" type nail salons. They have a comfy chair and tub that has to be filled with water by hand. I was confident it was very clean because they would have to make sure it is completely emptied and cleaned out after each use. My nail technician was Dana; she was super cute and so nice. It was so relaxing and she did a great job on my toes. I definitely recommend her! There was only one or two other ladies in the salon getting their hair done while I was here on a Friday afternoon. Everyone seemed so relaxed and their hair looked great. If I was unable to make an appointment with my regular stylist (my sister), I would probably try getting my hair done here. They are an Aveda salon and have many products for sale. Overall, a wonderful first experience and I hope to come back :) read more

This place is just so consistently great. I have been coming for nearly a decade and Kevin truly only hires the best. Both Bridget and Becky are my go-to's, but all the stylists are fantastic. A head and neck massage and a hot towel deep conditioning treatment are standard while you're getting shampooed. The Aveda products are great but they never try and sell you too hard like some salons. I've done cuts, color, highlights, extensions, and will be going in for lashes soon. For the level of service here, the prices are very reasonable. And I love the new location! read more

I have been having my hair done for over ten years at a Robert Laurence because I continue to be pleased with the quality of work and superior costumer service I receive. You are always greeted quickly when you walk in and offered a beverage (yes, even beer and wine) when you arrive. The owner Kevin puts his heart and sole into the shop. It always looks fresh. Their current location was remodeled in 2017 but even their old location was always very clean, warm and inviting. Stylists are great! Over the years I've seen Bridget, Kevin and now currently I see Kim. The only reason I've changed stylists is that Kim's schedule fits mine best. They offer wig, massages, nail and makeup services and have a barbershop on the back side of the salon. They even have a private room where wig fittings take place for privacy. Kevin is extremely sensitive to the fact that losing your hair can be emotional and embarrassing as he does all he can to help and care for people who may need wig services. My entire wedding party and I had our hair done at the salon. The salon was great about scheduling our appointments close together and getting us in and out in a timely matter while also doing a great job on our hair. I've also have several friends who now get their hair done regularly at the shop due to my suggestion and their satisfaction. In fact, one friend tried another salon and was so disappointed, she came right back for her next haircut. If you're in the Milwaukee area, I highly recommend this salon. read more

I decided to hang up my clippers a few months ago and try for a professional haircut. Robert Laurence was the first place I visited, and despite being a bit pricey for my tastes, I've been to a half dozen other places since and have yet to be as satisfied. Appointments are recommended, but as a walk-in I was assigned to a senior stylist, which was $37 for men, while a master would have been $41 and a junior $34. Women's cuts were about $5 more in each category. After the tip, I was up to $50- the most I've paid for a haircut, but also the best haircut I've received, so I'm still a little conflicted about making this a regular stop. Kim T. started with a comprehensive shampoo and scalp massage. It rivaled any professional masseuse and I ended up having to go home and tell my wife because I felt guilty for enjoying it so much. The cut was also impressive. I didn't have any expectations or instructions for her, so she put together a style on her own, which is an ability I've found lacking at other establishments. Best of all, despite my hair being unwieldy, it grew in quite well and lasted a long time before I needed another cut. The worst part of the experience was hearing a different employee talking negatively about a previous customer to a current customer, but my stylist was professional and the overall ambience was comfortable. read more

I can not rave enough about Robert Laurence. The day I walked in for the first time I was really nervous about the whole situation... spa.. aveda.... north shore nancy's... I thought it was going to be super uppity, and I couldn't have been more wrong. I sat down with Sarah, and she was SO nice and normal and down to earth..she gave me the best cut I have had in a long time. I really felt like I was pampering myself... even if it was just a haircut. She took time for a massage.. and don't forget the blue oil. yuummmm. She always asked if she could touch up my make-up... I also found out how much Kevin and the gang did for cancer patients... he and his gang are an amazing bunch! I am very particular about my hair. It's thin and I prefer to keep it long, which means it require a great cut for my hair to look good. I just moved to WI and was in desperate need of hair care but didn't know where to go. At the suggestion of a male friend who has hard to deal with locks, I saw Bridget. She is wonderful and I cannot rave about her enough. Her cut might be the best I ever got, and I've been lucky enough to go to some of the top salons in New York. She corrected a nightmare of a cut and some pretty terrible color (think brunette turned blonde, back to brunette, box dyed almost black with a lovely brassy overtone...awful mess). She took her time going over my hair, discussing my hair history, care regimen and what I want it to look like. I also explained my crazy schedule to her and that I wouldn't be able to make it back in until Dec, so while I needed a dye job I needed it to be able to grow out well. She made it happen! I sit her not having gone back since August and while yes, I do have some roots, it's not painfully obvious. Even more impressive is the fact that the color stayed. It didn't turn brassy or incredibly white, it held the pretty warm color she put in. For anyone who has had color correction, this is HUGE. My hair naturally turns brassy, so I'm floored by how well this color has stayed. I'm not sure if this is how they usually operate, but she also washed my hair herself rather than having another girl do it. It made my appointment feel that much more personal, plus it was the best scalp massage ever. Bridget keeps track of the color/process she uses for you on cards to refer back to when you come in. She's happy to explain pretty much everything and offer styling tips while she's working on you. I mentioned I love when I can get some wave into my pin straight hair and asked for her opinion on a body wave and tips on styling. She gave me a straight up "no way", explained why, went on to give me pointers to curl my hair and then offered to add in some curls during my blow out. She's thoughtful, really listens to what you want and is incredibly thorough. I had one stylist I loved (back in NY) who could do no wrong with my hair. Lucky for her, sucky for me; she became a model and quit. Since then, I've become a salon hopper, unable to find someone who could give me a solid cut or color that would stay. Now, I can't imagine going anywhere else. Bridget and Robert Lawrence is fabulous. Extras: - There's a lot of product for sale and a spa, so if you like to do everything in one stop you can. - Instead of just sitting in a chair in front of a mirror or in a row of dryers while you let your color sit, they have sort of a lounge area set up with beverages and magazines. It was much more comfortable and for once I didn't mind waiting for the color to turn! -Friendly and thoughtful service all around. I was offered a beverage as soon as I checked in and my stylist (Bridget) was ready for me in about 5 minutes. read more

I have been going to Robert Laurence for 9 years now and I still love it. Jennifer and Chanel are amazing stylists! They have both colored, highlighted, and cut my hair over the years. I have been blonde, brunette, auburn, and (currently) mahogany. I have had my hair cut all the way up to my ears and grown out halfway down my back. No matter what, they always do an amazing job with the utmost skill and talent. Tammy has been doing all my waxing and has a perfect eye for shaping eyebrows. She also managed to make bikini and Brazilian wax services go by quickly and with much less pain than anticipated. If I could give Ashley more than 5 stars, I would! This was my first visit and it is always nerve racking trying to find a new stylist. I explained that I have thick, coarse hair and need lots of layers, which is almost impossible for me to find. I don't know why it's so hard to find someone to do layers, but Ashley was great. Just what I was looking for. I was thrilled with my cut and look forward to an easier time taking care of it. Also, she matched my color formula to the Aveda colors. It looked great! And also, I can't forget to mention the shampoo session. The bench for your legs and the bowl itself is so comfortable.....your head is not hanging down. It is actually comfortable. Ashley gave me a great head massage and then a hot towel to relax me and set the conditioner. The scent of the Aveda products was wonderful. I just wish I lived here...I visit a couple times a year and you can bet I will be back to Ashley for a great cut and color. read more

A stylist named Caitlin did highlights and was supposed to remove, in the process, a small amount of pink that my teen had regretfully put in her hair from colored shampoo that belonged to me. My daughter's Grandparents took her there, because that's where my mother has gone for a long time. My daughter came home with about six colored highlights in her hair from this stylist-including grey and also some leftover light pink. (brown blonde, ash) I called 'Robert Laurence' salon the next business day with my (and my embarrassed daughter's) concern/complaint about the horrible end result of Saturday's appointment. The lady who took the call and booked the 'fix-what-was-supposed-to-be-done-in-the-first-place appointment assured me that the "color correction" would be of no cost. This is the standard at EVERY salon I have ever heard of. Long story short, I was there when the male stylist who re-did her dye job, Alex, was told of the errors and was shown pictures of the INITIAL desired result. He had no questions and agreed to correct the problem. I left & went to the coffee shop for a couple hours down the block and returned to Robert Laurence. Alex, the stylist, proceeded to lay down some gobbledygook doublespeak about "how there was a misunderstanding and my daughter wanted something different and I would have to now pay $150. When I explained that the original stylist totally f%%^*# up her hair color, and that I was told the correction would be FREE, I got heat, then, from the rude-as-hell manager, Kevin. He treated me like I was stupid and had to throw in that he's "been doing my mother's hair for years"; As if that anything to do with Robert Laurence lying to us. If anyone chooses to go here, which I highly do not recommend, make sure you get your 'estimate' in writing before they make up their own fantasy, money-hungry, bad-business decision to screw over their clientele. read more

Visited here for a massage recently and my massage therapist, Cathy was superb. Fixed my back! She was very relaxing and seemed to know where the right spots where. The room was relaxing and very quiet and I didn't notice until it was over that the ceiling was very high and had tree branches hanging above - very cool! Receptionist was ok, wasn't necessarily friendly, but wasn't rude either. Just seemed impersonal, going through the motions. Didn't ask or care that I was new and had no idea where I was going and would have liked a tour. Cathy, however, asked if I had been to Robert Laurence, gave me a brief tour and asked questions. I'd go back to see her for another massage, hands down! The salon/spa is cute and clean. Nothing available for spa amenities though and I'm used to changing into a robe and being able to shower before or after my spa service, etc. read more

I had amazing massage from Sara yesterday, I feel like a whole new me. The salon has off street parking, but I had no trouble finding a spot. Inside it is clean and I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who offered me a beverage right away. My massage therapist asked what I wanted before the massage to customize the massage to me. The room was calming with candles and a warm comfy massage table. After the massage, Sara met me outside the room with a glass of water. I will defiantly be going back. I have been going to Robert Laurence for 4 years and have NEVER been disappointed. The first time I called for an appointment, it was last-minute and only Bridget was available. At the time, she was a junior stylist and I was somewhat reluctant - but desperate. Like I said, that was 4 years ago and the rest is history...Bridget is awesome! I was so happy when she got promoted a few months ago because she truly deserved it. She has a real talent when it comes to hair and she's super fun, too! I highly highly recommend Bridget (I've never been to anyone else) - she saved me from having to fly to Texas every couple months for a cut and color! Fantastic salon! I've been going here for 7 years. Even though we have moved to the other side of town, I still will drive to Shorewood to get my hair done by Sandy. She's absolutely wonderful and the only person that I will trust with my hair. I've had a few spa treatments. Terrible experience! Was booked with a "Senior Master Stylist" who was completely rude, unwelcoming and unfriendly. The Salon is new to my neighborhood and thought I would give it a try. I booked for a haircut and color consult - was in and out in less than 30 minutes - from being greeted, "consulted", hair washed, cut and dried. Unhappy with the cut and with the color consultation. Stylist kept pushing me to reschedule because it would be "cheaper" to be booked at the same time. When I didn't opt to rebook, but stay and have my hair cut I was barely spoken to again. Walked away after washing my hair - no idea why or where she went and sat waiting. The cut was not to my liking - was never asked if I was happy - asked about product being put in my hair since I wasn't spoken to. At the end - cape was taken off and that was it. Filled out the comment emial sent to me adn NO FOLLOW UP regarding my awful expereince. DO NOT go here - they DO NOT CARE. read more
