Would never recommend this salon to ANYONE. Actually run as fast as you can away from this place. Still recovering a year and a half later from my hair falling out. RUNNN

This was my first visit to Get Dolled Up Beauty Lounge. I saw Nekoda for a color correction. Prior to my appointment I sent her a few photos of the color I hoped to achieve and my current hair color since my hair had previously been colored. When I arrived we discussed whether it was possible to achieve my color goal, what it would take to do it and an estimate of costs. It all appeared possible and Nekoda got to work. Every step was done with great care. She took her time making sure it was perfect. She also offered care instructions to keep my color and condition of my hair in great shape between appointments. The final result - absolutely stunning! It's so beautiful, she exceeded my expectations. If you're looking for a new salon and a new stylist I'd recommend Nekoda. Her color skills are fantastic. Check out Get Dolled Up Facebook page too for more info and photos.

I've been trying to find a new hair stylist. I went here to get highlights and a root shadow. It was done so bad and wasn't blended at all. I tried to go back to get it fixed but our schedules didn't line up. Honestly I don't really want to go back since it was messed up so bad the first time. I keep reading that the owner is really good with blondes so maybe I just got someone with little experience. Regardless, if you're a professional my hair should not look like this. I've made an appointment with someone who caters to blondes but for the time being I have to walk around with my hair like this. I I've attached pics.

Absolutely would NOT recommend this place to anyone! I had seen beautiful pictures on their Instagram feed, so I figured I'd give it a try. I went in with a few inspiration photos of what I was looking for - all over highlight, maybe a bit of a shadow root and highlights to frame my face. Next thing I knew, I had bleach ALL OVER MY HEAD, and the stylist walked away and left me for about 25 minutes. My head was on complete fire, and my eyes were burning so bad I could hardly open them. She finally came back and washed me in the bowl. When I came back to the mirror, I was sick to my stomach, really crossing my fingers and trusting the process. She then gives me a haircut (I have extremely thick, naturally curly hair). I couldn't upload a video but it was literally the worst haircut I've had in my entire life!! My boyfriend could've done a better job with a butter knife My hair looked like steps, like you could just walk across my whole head. She then took me back to the bowl and put a toner on, but all it did was make my hair brown. At the very end, my total came to $600 and I absolutely HATED my hair. They had me come back and still charged me $30 for them to "fix" it when all she did was use a Detox Shampoo which didn't even really do much. The worst part of this was, due to all the harsh chemicals and bleach, my hair has completely snapped off at my neck and I had to get a bob cut. I'm not one to bring down other women or businesses, but this hair salon DESTROYED my hair and I don't ever want this happening to anyone else. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!

Before - nearly to my waist, super healthy

So on my appointment with Melissa, to "fix" my hair, I felt really confident at first. Melissa agreed wholeheartedly that my hair wasn't done properly and gave me time for the full consultation that I didn't get the first time. She took a "before" picture, which I was a little put off by because the it was actually the $250 "after" of what had happened in the salon! I was also a little put off to be seated beside Arri, who messed up my hair the first time, said absolutely nothing to me during this appointment, and gave me rude side-eye during my re-do. At any rate, I showed Melissa some pictures and she seemed confident that we'd be able to fix things. The color application and was seemed to go smoothly...and then she started cutting. I'd been very clear about wanting to keep the length and adjust the layers that had previously been shorn into my hair...and Melissa cut...and cut...and cut. I was freaking out but kept telling myself that it would grow back...and that the color was at least a little better...and I'd really come back for the color correction...by the time I left, 6-8 inches of my length was gone! On top of that, the much shorter cut I received unexpectedly was one that I'd never request: although I told her that I typically wear my hair curly and wanted layers for shape and around my face, I got a basic, uncool cut that was layered only at the bottom 2 inches of my hair - total triangle cut for someone with curly hair! I was near tears and anxious to get out of the salon - again. I walked into the salon initially with long, dark, healthy hair, left the first time with brassy, streaky long hair, and left the second time with medium-length, slightly less brassy, damaged hair. Despite the impressive Instagram page they run, I wouldn't let anyone but the owner touch my hair (but she didn't offer to fix it, so...). I ended up going to my usual stylist, who said she was limited in what she could do because it had been processed twice already, but who was finally able to get it at least not as embarrassing-looking (I obviously had to pay all over again though). I could not, in good conscience, recommend this salon to anyone. My experience was terrible both times; my hair is infinitely worse today than it was the day I walked into the salon and it will take YEARS to get it back to where I began, healthy and long. UPDATE: I just happened upon my review and realized that the owner commented very rudely and called into question the veracity of my reviews. To clarify: my before picture was NOT taken immediately after I had my hair colored, months before my GDU appointment, as she assumed. It was taken after I'd had it styled, only, by a very competent stylist - no cut or color - and it was maybe a month before my GDU appointment. Obviously I don't style it this way daily (I stated multiple times that I wear it naturally curly), and a month later, the only differences would have been a few more grays and another .5 inch in length. I selected this photo to show how long and healthy it was pre-GDU. I did hug Melissa when I left - it was kind of an awkward moment, and I was trying to reassure myself that the color DID look at least a bit better (it did). It was also blown out straight at the time, so I didn't realize at that point how short and terrible it would look when air dried curly. Honestly, to have a stylist barely layer CURLY HAIR is something I haven't encountered since I was a teenager having my hair cut at Super Cuts! I absolutely did, and should have been able to, expect more from a $250 hairstyle (plus tip because I'm too polite for my own good!). I may not have been in for a wild cut or nonconventional color, but I'm fairly fashion-forward and (my mom thinks I'm) cool - what I received from this salon was basic, streaky, garish, uncool hair that was miles away from what I started with. To have the owner attempt to post a before pic as some weird attempt to call me a liar and show how "bad" my hair was before is insane. If she ever does get that figured out, I'll note that I went in for my initial appointment without having washed my hair that day (as a mom to four young children, I welcomed the chance to skip doing my hair since I was having it tended to at the salon!).

After the hair cut - left hair on the neck

This was my first visit at Get Dolled Up. I have another place that I usually go for the hair cut, but I could not find an appointment before traveling, so I decided to try different place. So I searched Yelp, read reviews, and decided to give a shot at this place. As a note, I did a men's hair cut (short hair) with Arri. The reason why I gave one star is not because of subjective matters such as "my hair went too short", "the color of hair was not what I wanted, but because of more "objective" matter. As mentioned, it was my first visit, and as a male who is not good at communicating my preferred hair style with hairstylist, I totally understand that my hair become shorter than I expected or so. But what I could not understand is that, after the hair cut, my hairstylist did not clean up my neck (I am not talking about "shaving" my neck area. I literally means "clean up" the hairs). I could feel that there were lots of hair on my neck while I was driving, and I had to go back home and took a shower. Who wants to leave the shop with messy look on your neck? I think that was unprofessional, and I don't think I will revisit this place.

After moving to Milwaukee, I was looking for a place where they could make my hair from brown to blond. I have colored my hair blond and have done bleaching and highlighting for most of my adult life, however, during the Covid time, I let it change to its natural brown. I found Get Dolled up beauty lounge on Instagram and after checking them out further online, I made an appointment. I was lead to believe that they know what they were doing. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The first time, they left the bleach on my hair for 5 hours. I had sever allergic reaction (red face, palpitation, nausea, shortness of breath); something that I had never experienced before. For the 2nd visit, the bleach was left for over 3 hours with the same allergic result, despite taking antiallergic medicine. Putting the allergic reactions aside, after spending over $600 for the first visit and $350 for second visit I ended up with the hair that was loose, cracked, fragile and damaged beyond repair. This was frankly an awful experience and still after 3 months, when I look at my hair in the mirror, I realize that I made a grave mistake, first by trusting the hype created around them, and by the end result. They may be good for cutting or styling (which they also not do a good job on me), but they definitely don't know how to blonde or use products that are safe for the body. Based on my experience, I therefore do not recommend them.
