I would highly recommend you call Roberto Alarcon if you need a highly knowledgeable guide in and around the Alcapulco Region of Mexico. We contacted Roberto after a couple of days in Alcapulco. We reached out to him because of a recommendation from some close friends who hired him a few years ago because they do not speak Spanish. Roberto has strong English skills so communication is superb. He initially asked my wife and me what we would like to do while in Alcapulco. We explained we had not visited the area before and were looking to see what life was like there in the region and where the locals go for food and play. We were also interested in looking for artisans who make high-quality wares. After hearing us out, he offered several recommendations. He took us to Taxco a Spanish Colonial town a few hours away from Alcapulco. This town is not only picturesque but also displays an old-world charm with a romantic vibe my wife and I enjoyed. The town is also known for its historic Silver mining and the resulting jewelry artisanship throughout the town. We toured a wonderful manufacturing facility where they gave us a tour of their design and manufacturing process from creating unique molds for their fine jewelry pieces to larger silver statues with incredible detail. Roberto also recommended numerous excellent restaurants throughout Alcapulco based on our desired tastes and budget. Some of the places we went to ranged from dining for under $40 to the higher side of about $350 for a five-star level dining experience. Each and every recommendation we took was spot on; we were highly satisfied. Roberto is very well connected with both the tourist-frequented restaurants as well as with the ones the locals frequent. A little about the cost of the service. We felt it was well worth the cost. When we initially negotiated the price for the first few days we did not discuss it further. After the completion of the first day with Roberto I expected to pay him, but he said I could pay him after we completed the planned trip to Taxco and at which time we could consider continuing his services as needed or not. We greatly appreciated that as it showed us he was a true professional willing to place his skills and capabilities to our test. The results were that he scored very high on professionalism, knowledge, courtesy, and absolute promptness to the agreed pick-up times and locations we wished to visit. Roberto personally drove us around while providing us with detailed history lessons about the city and all the areas we visited as well as the trip to and including Taxco. First let me state that Roberto's English is excellent. My husband and I speak mid-level Spanish but we've been traveling around Mexico for a little over a year and it was great to give our brains a break for a few hours. And he knows everyone. No matter where we went, he had several friends there. We did a customized tour as we are staying in Acapulco for a month and wanted to know all the ins and outs of the city. Of course, we went to see the cliff divers and the Capella de La Paz(stunning views and interesting history). But he also took us to the local Mercado where his wife shops and showed us the best stands for fresh seafood and fruits and veggies. He toured us through many neighborhoods and gave us history, as well as obscure interesting facts. He pointed out the best restaurants(not always what's recommend on TA or by other tourists) and so far we've tried three of them and they were all amazing. I loved stopping here and there for him to grab us some fresh hot chicarrón or the best guavas, or a cold bottle of water or a chela, etc.... It was a fun day that was well worth every dime we spent and now we have a new "hermano en Acapulco". Definitely do his tour early in your stay so you can try some of his recommendations. I read a recommendation for Roberto in a Facebook group and contacted him for transportation to and from Acapulco airport. I also expressed interest in a tour of the city. Roberto responded quickly and we agreed on the airport transportation. He followed up a few days before our arrival and confirmed details. He was ready for us when we came out of the airport despite a delayed flight from Houston. We felt very comfortable with Roberto and scheduled two days of tours - both were excellent. The first day was local. We went to Playa Diamonte and after naming them, we got to release newly hatched turtles into the ocean. Fortunately no birds swooped in to eat Hector, Felipe, Vaughn or Ina while we were watching. We went to the "Church of Peace," which has amazing views and is beautiful. The rest of the day included visiting several neighborhoods, shopping for some souvenirs, going through the huge street front local market and lunch at El Mirador and to see the cliff divers. It was an exceptional day. The second day of touring was a week later. Roberto picked us up at our resort and took us inland to see Tehuacalco. We stopped on the way in Tierra Colorado for breakfast at a couple of street side eateries. Totally local, authentic and sanitary (by US standards). Then we walked through the local mercado. Food was good, the market was amazing. Many people we passed know Roberto, their faces lit up, they smiled and hugged him. Everyone was welcoming and they treated us as friends because we are Roberto's friends. We saw no other Americanos in town. We then went to Tehuacalco, a recently discovered and only partially unearthed settlement of the Yope people. Roberto has extensive knowledge of the area and gave us a great tour. Not as large as ruins we've visited in Mexico, Belize or Guatemala, but very interesting. Saw only one other tourist couple, but there was a fun group of 8-10 year old school kids, teachers and parents. It was touching that they were excited to see us and wanted Roberto to take photos of themselves with us. With so many options to choose from when planning travel, it's always hard to decide. Our friend invited us to join her on a vacation to Acapulco and honestly we had no idea what to expect- we've traveled to quite a few other locations in Mexico but since this beautiful beach town is one that has fallen off the radar for many Americans, we didn't have much intel. Lucky for us this meant we got to explore and enjoy the beautiful beaches, restaurants and sights surrounded mostly by Mexicans on vacation versus throngs of tourists from the states. He is also your first call for a taxi, if you have a question regarding Acapulco, need to go to dinner, or just go to the convenience store to get amenities. Call him for what ever your needs are. There are not enough great things I can say about Roberto! When you google Acapulco, it can scare some tourists away, so I reached out to Roberto. He responded to all of my emails so quickly and set my mind at ease. My expectations were exceeded and then some. ACAPULCO is SAFE!!! We almost canceled our trip bc of what we found on YouTube and media. Roberto is an expert of Acapulco and knows the city like the palm of his hands. He has access to parts of the city that regular taxi drivers don't. Besides visiting all that was listed in the city tour, he was able to accommodate small additions to the tour to our personal liking on the whim. Want souvenir shopping? See tacos during the drive? For example, we saw food street vendors enroute to some of the designated stops, he did a stop by a taqueria stand for us to try. Our kids wanted ice cream and he dropped us off to get the local ice cream popsicles. We didn't get to do the stop with the turtles bc they ran out of turtles. If turtles is a must, make sure to ask Roberto to contact the turtle place prior to booking if that's your main thing. What we lacked, Roberto made up by asking what we wanted and since we are foodies, he took us to the local farmers market. It was quite an experience. There's seafood, vegetables, tropical fruits, spices, paintings, meat, and knickknacks. It was a hustling and bustling place. All in a narrow street filled with people, cars, and grocery stalls. We bought all sorts of ingredients so we can cook a feast back at our resort. Roberto came along to help translate and shop for us. It was my favorite part of the tour. We also ate at the best taqueria with pastor meat. Such a memorable day. Not once did we feel unsafe. Don't book with the resorts, Roberto is better priced and knows Acapulco better than all of them. He's not just our personal tour guide, but was our photographer, translator, and chauffeur. Btw, if you enjoy fishing, Acapulco is great for it! We wanted to do that too through Roberto. Roberto is Acapulco Gold! I contacted him a few weeks in advance of our trip and he responded very quickly with the information I needed. Robert delivered 100% on his promise of taking great care of us. He was prompt in picking us up at the airport and gave us a very friendly greeting. He welcomed us to Acapulco with a roomy vehicle, water, tequila and beer! He also took us to a local Walmart so that we could stock up on supplies for the week. Me and my husband David had the pleasure to Travel to Acapulco Mexico for our 15 year wedding anniversary. Robert Alarcon made our trip special I was very skeptical when my husband booked him but after he picked us up from the airport and was very helpful at the grocery store he set my mind at ease that I was safe with him. he made me feel more comfortable. Roberto, or has he would say, my friend in Mexico. He is very attentive and knowledgeable about the best sites to see on his tours. He takes pride in making sure your trip to Mexico is stress-free. Besides tours, he will take you to restaurants, shopping, and whatever else you need. You pay him for all his time and driving at the end of your stay, however it cannot be charged with a credit card. I did enjoy the sites which include a beautiful church, cliff divers and even some local areas with breath taking scenery. I think next time I will do a little more research on my own to pick restaurants that served food as good as the view. It was interesting to see the locals versions of American food. He took us to the turtle reserve (where we were able to name and release on own baby turtles) to the cliff divers show to an extremely old church overlooking Acapulco. My wife and I with two other couples just returned from an amazing week in Acapulco, Mexico and I am not one to normally write a review but sometimes you find something, or in this case someone, so good you have to share so others can have the same experience. A very large part of our wonderful week was due to a man by the name of Roberto Alarcon. Roberto was our personal driver and tour guide who we chose because of the reviews we read on Trip advisor and believe me when I say the reviews were spot on. Roberto met us at the airport on time with a smile and a very sincere welcome and we knew instantly that we had made a good choice. On the way from the airport to our resort Roberto stopped so we could by some supplies,(groceries and adult beverages) staying with us the entire time assisting us with finding the items we needed. After shopping we continued to the resort and all though the drive was short Roberto was already giving us information on Acapulco and what we could expect from him during our stay. Aside from always being available to help us or drive us anywhere we wish to go, he offers several tours. Our group of six took the City Tour around Acapulco which included seeing the cliff divers, The Swim with the Dolphins, A trip to Taxco, Mexico which is a long day but absolutely amazing, A second trip to see the Cliff Divers at night and then a return trip to the airport. I highly recommend any or all of these tours. My Wife and I considered taking the trip to Taxco on our own but we would not have seen or experience even a quarter of what we saw with Roberto and that goes for everything we did on our trip.
