Voting Poll Place Review:…read more I've been here twice to cast my votes & the Volunteers are friendly & helpful. Now, with the exception of the students lending a hand of almost nothing (one didn't know the street that was facing the exit & the other didn't know how to exit to the parking lot), hope they are getting good grades nonetheless. Upon entering there were a few group of campaign workers who respected people's space & not force any persuasion. The signage made it easy to get to the polling place that was located in the Gymnasium, check in & cast your ballot. Thanks to the Volunteers for making the Voters comfortable while casting their votes. This polling location was open to 7PM.

(Montgomery College Rockville Part 1 of 2) 10/16/19…read more Montgomery College in Rockville Maryland. My old stomping ground and where I found a major I really liked. A major I never aquire, because I got burned out. I tried two different to continue my education ang graduate from college, but I guess as of now...2019...its not likely to happen. Let's take a step back and I will tell you what happened with me over the years at Montgomery College. In 1996-1997 I was attending Marshall University. Yeah, the same University where the movie We Are Marshall was filmed. I had come to Montgomery College to repair my grade point average. At Marshall the College life had gotten good, but I wasn't prefirming well in all of my classes. History is just one example. The teacher...no...professor, had her whole class sign in using one's social security number as way of attendance. I put my name down instead of my social security number. What the hell kind of system is that? Off topic for a moment. I once applied to work at a Fed Ex in Rockville. It was a group interview and at the end of the group interview they had people put their social security number down on paper. The paper was passed all the way down to me. I put my name down and passed it on. A few others followed my lead. Needless to say, we weren't hired, had a list of social security numbers in my head,....but I digress. I saw every student get 20 to 30 pages of reading every night. If you fell behind you were shit out of luck. The game of catch up was a very popular game in her class. I did what I could, but failed and ended up dropping her class. I ended up dropping a four hour algebra class that met twice a week too. Needless to say, I need my GPA at a higher level and once I enrolled in Montgomery College, I kicked some major ass. I had a new game plan and I liked the size of these college. The campus was pretty much all in one place without having to travel long distances to get to classes. Upon regestiering, I saw the line seemed pretty long, but it moved fairly quickly. It was then I notice a sign with a picture on the wall. The sign said "And you think you have it bad." The picture showed lines of students out of the building going all the way towards the security office and beyond. Now adays there should be a line since online enrollment is the new way to do things. Paying for books was expensive and the return of unwanted books was highway robbery. This is the way colleges are and this is not going to change. Now if you didn't know, there are three Montgomery Colleges. In no particular order, Rockville Montgomery College, Germantown and Takoma/Silver Spring campuses. Since I now lived in the Rockville area, I sometimes walked, drove or took the bus depending on my mood. This is a day/night campus, but you didn't live on campus like other colleges do. During the Spring semester of 97, I took several classes to help get my grade point average up. By the end of it all, there I got ready to take a test where if you don't pass, you don't pass the class. I believe they called it the competency exam. I had A's in the class, but failed the test. I appealed their fail grade, but lost. I was bummed out, but knew I could pass on the next try. I was taking classes that were beyond the normal, but it helped me out a great deal later on. Yeah, once I got over taking English 001 and 002 I learned a great deal and more importantly, had fun. Between classes after finishing homework, I stumbled upon an arcade inside the Student Center. I don't know if the students center still has this arcade and pool, but it was a way to unwind. I believe there was a small copy center there too...I may be have been something else though. I noticed the last time I was in Maryland, Montgomery College has been broadcasting the school's mascot. A large Raven and the Color of Montgomery seems to be my favorite color purple. When I went to this school, I never saw much of the mascot or the new colored clothing. Guess not enough merchandise is being sold and Montgomery College is trying to change that with better clothes. I will check this out for myself next week. Correction, the mascot for Montgomery College Rockville, the mascot is a Raptor not a Raven...I was corrected when I saw a picture of the mascot sign. *I'm running out of writing room, do I will write more later.....to be continued."

This is one of three Montgomery College campuses and is the one I've personally spent the most time taking classes over my tenure, which has been far from linear. There is parking that surrounds the circular campus, mostly lots, but there is a garage as well. The facilities are fairly nice and it's my preferred campus with Germantown taking a close second. There are busses that run through the campus all day and into the evening.

I think the school is really supportive of a variety of learning styles. My child's teachers in…read morethe upper school (5th-8th) have been caring, nurturing and have offered her lots of scaffolding to grow her into an independent learner. There has been, overall, good communication about her challenges and action taken to help her with challenges. I know they want to prepare her for high-school. From other parents, I've heard their Norwood graduates were more than prepared for 9th grade--even at some of the more rigorous independent schools in DC. My child entered Norwood in 4th grade, so cannot speak to the lower school experience (and 4th was during Covid), but the upper school experience has been solid. My child loves and appreciates all her teachers--which is a testament to their kindness and real desire to educate young people.

Norwood is an amazing school with lots of opportunities for students. The academics are very well…read moredone and the sports and arts are great as well. It either pushes students to excel or burns them out and causes them to give up. It just depends on each students ability to handle stress. Even so, the school has a class, activity, friend group, caring teacher for everyone.

I went to this school at the end of the Seventies and graduated in 1980. I made many friends. I…read morewould say it was better than other schools nearby at the time I went there for academics but also because of the unique landscape and architecture that was destroyed in a teardown and rebuild project which came ten years after I graduated. We had a domed arena that was in the style of Finnish architect Ero Saarinen and was great to play sports in. The principal was pretty good: Dr. Jerome Marco-he served a long time and had the current Football field named after him. He didn't like underage drinking so he got rid of the Rugby team which was a club sport-not varsity. That team became the Maryland Exiles thanks to Dan Soso who kept it going. I did academics with great teachers like Bari Bergman for English, Speech and Drama but sports was really what I was into at the time. We had arguably the best football team in the history of the school. I played each season. We were not undefeated in the regular season but 9-1 then lost the state AA Championship-our QB got injured in the semifinal. The 2003 team went 10-0 but lost their first playoff game that makes us better in my opinion. Our coach, Rich Cameron was good. He had us in the wishbone offense that just could not be stopped. Our rugby team won tournaments-the coach was John Haberman. I also wrestled. That was more fun than anything. Many of the students have gone on to great careers and spread out across the country nowadays. We had great colors and a great mascot but I do not agree with the gender equity changes made to our mascot. Our Colors were Black, White and Columbia Blue. We were the Vikings and we had a great Viking but nowadays any depiction of our Viking must be accompanied by a Lady Viking. I went to our reunion and saw Lady Viking drawings which we did not have. If you want to have Lady Viking Drawings in 2013 O.K. but we did not have them in 1980 so don't go back and try to re-write history. Cafeteria food was good. We even had a salad bar which I used in wrestling season. We always had a weight room open after school. Other notable teachers were Mr. Cleary-English and Yearbook, Jack Freeman-JV Football and Al Patini-Driver's Education, Mr. Peters and Mr. Debone-gym, Hugh Hammet-Tennis Coach, Ms. Linda Niedbalski and Melanie Sorg-Biology, Mrs. Trebor-Home Economics, Ms. Guiterrez-English, Ms. Cummings-English. Some great teachers have names I forgot-sorry. This was a high school you would want to go to. 4 stars.

My sisters and I went to this middle school. Although, they went when it was at the former…read morelocation. Generally, this middle school was okay and I went through it fine, but for some reason the culture there was a little trashy. I don't know. The high school(WJ) was significantly more classy and preppy, but this middle school was a little bit nasty. I liked the classes I took and all the electives I could take. It did prepare me for high school. At that time in the mid-90s, alternative rock music was famous and Friends was on TV. It was a good time in the US. We liked meeting other schoolmates in middle school and going through high school, but it got a bit dramatic and cliquey...as well there are some snobby people and you just had to sit through it all in high school because after all, you are not in private school!!

Even though most of the reason why this school sucks is because of the kids just a lot the teachers also suck the academics are bad and I'm just sitting in class watching my classmates be disrespectful and me just wanting to learn and wanting to leave this school so badly, I hope I can switch schools one day so I never have to step a foot into this building ever again.
