I STILL think about this horrible experience. And that says a lot - it totally soured the trip for all of us. After ruminating on our experience, the only saving graces of this tour were the fact that we didn't have to drive and the tour guide had a lot of knowledge. Nobody has reached out about our experience from the company. The fact that they were so disorganized and clearly had no backup support for their workers really makes me frustrated. I had booked transportation from the airport yo our hotel months before our trip. Our airline retimed the flight at some point, and I forgot to call and adjust our pickup time. When we landed I called to see if Robert's Hawaii would be able to pick us up or would we have to wait until our originally scheduled time. Due to some excellent work by their dispatcher, we got picked up right away. I really appreciate their ability to help fix my mistake. read more

We did the movie tour with Wendy as our guide. We thought this was more than a movie tour. We saw the east and north sides of the island. It was more of a tour of the island with the movie scenes as trivia to add some context. Although the movies were old, the sheer volume of movies filmed on this island is very impressive. Our guide would freeze the video as we passed various sites and you could see the exact view used in each shot. There were clips of about 50-100 films. I understand that a lot of the videos could have been better quality, but some of the older movies just look grainy and I'm not sure better footage is available. The site of the coco palms hotel is a ruins, but watching the clips from Blue Hawai'i (Elvis Presley movie) made the stop more interesting. Larry Rivera, a Hawaiian musician, performed two songs for us and was the highlight of my 11-year-old-son's day. The tour no longer offers a lunch, but they do break for lunch at an area with many offerings at reasonable prices. We took many-many photos, including the backdrop of the Brachiosaurus scene from Jurassic Park. Also, the scene from Tropic Thunder where they accidentally set the jungle on fire without the cameras rolling was a particularly nice photo-op. I have a feeling this tour is guide-dependent, and we were very happy with our guide, Wendy. Hope others will enjoy this tour as much as we did. read more

This was my first time visiting the island and was very nervous using his service for the first time. When I landed at the airport and walked out to the Arrival hall, I immediately saw a sign with my name on it. I was greeted right away. They were very friendly and made you feel comfortable. Movie tour - DON'T DO IT! An expensive six hour bore, with a lousy sandwich for lunch. They tell EVERYONE pick up is at 8am at their hotel - of course that makes no sense. After driving in circles for an hour, the tour begins with an amateur grainy video that looks like it was made with a vcr! The movies they focused on was from the 60's - even though lots of recent movies were shot here. Who cares about Donovan's Reef? This particular tour took us into a torn down old hotel, where Elvis movies were shot, and a friend of the guide was there to perform a song and dance, and pretty much begged for tips. Creepy! That's when we decided to Uber home. read more

Zero customer service, we booked Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto Kauai and had to cancel due to a medical emergency. We called and canceled, provided proof of medical emergency (doctors note) but after countless email and calls to the company we booked the tour with Viator nothing. We can accept a no answer but after more than a month of asking no answer is unacceptable. Buyer beware with both Roberts Hawaii and Viator neither have any follow through but endless "lip service" on what they will do. read more

Very disappointed with customer service. I booked a tour for Waimea Canyon for 4 people at $86.00 per person the day before our tour the husbands ate Ahi and both got stomach problems (diahhrea). I called the night before to see if we could cancel because it was a 7.5 hour tour with no restrooms on the bus and they said no we would have to go see a doctor on a Sunday afternoon. We were leaving the next day so we could not reschedule and after 6 calls and being told it was decision of the travel company then again Roberts we got back only 1 person credit of $86.00 and lost the $258.00 what bothers me more is they care only about the money and not the clients especially with virus going around you'd think they'd be more considerate...Beware read more

Nora met us as soon as we got to the luggage area. She gave us both shell necklaces. She was so sweet and even congratulated us on our marriage. She took our luggage to the car as they came off the carousel. We were lucky enough to be the only ones in the shuttle. I was really hoping for a better experience on this tour but I was very disappointed. We did the movie tour on Kauai. Apparently, other tours get better reviews but this one consistently gets bad reviews. I wish I would have listened to them before paying for this disappointment. First, we were picked up at our condo's lobby which was fine but the driver told us that this was not our bus. He drove us all the way to the airport on the other side of the island to get on another bus for the tour. They could have told us this and we would have driven to the airport ourselves. Secondly, all of the movies were old from the 1950's and such. Very outdated. The movies need to be updated. I have never even heard of the majority of movies in this tour. They mentioned Jurassic Park, Hobbs & Shaw, and Jungle Cruise a few times. Those were the only movies I knew. Jurassic Park is one of the biggest money makers and we just drove right past Jurassic Ranch. I understand why because it is a working ranch with its own tour (which I did not know until I googled it) but the scenery made such an impact! I wanted to see the field but I had to get pictures from a moving bus. There really weren't very many stops. All of the sites were from these old movies. No movie sets, nothing to actually see except for the gorgeous Kauai scenery. Thirdly, my family and I were sitting in the back of the bus under the air conditioner. We were talking to each other. Apparently, we were talking too loudly. The driver (not the tour guide) pulled over, parked the bus, and came into the back of the bus to reprimand us for talking too loudly. She was very rude about it. She told us that she could hear us in the front of the bus. This is a small bus that holds maybe 16 people. Of course you can hear us talking it is a small area. Are you unable to drive while people are talking? She did not even attempt to be nice about it. She could have waited until the next stop and politely mentioned something to us instead of embarrassing us in front of the other passengers. The tour guide did not have anything to say so why did she? I can understand why she said something. We did not realize we were being loud due to the VERY LOUD air conditioner but to treat us like a scolded school child was just wrong. Fourth, we spent entirely too much time at the old Coco Palms hotel. It is an abandoned building with nothing but chickens and graffiti. It was blown apart in a hurricane in 1992. There was nothing to see here. We had to use our imagination. I have been on movie tours before. There is an excellent one on Kualoa Ranch on Oahu. THAT was a movie tour. This was absolutely NOT a movie tour. It was a terrible movie tour but a good north shore Kauai tour. Take out the movie sites part, add 'north shore Kauai', and you've got yourself a decent tour. We paid way too much money for this "movie tour" to be this disappointed. The only saving grace to this whole thing was our tour guide, Andrew. He is very personable, funny, and taught us a lot about Kauai, not just movie sets. If it wasn't for him, I would have given this one star. read more

My mother and I took the Waimea Canyon tour on Wednesday 6/26. We booked this tour through our Costco vacation package. Our tour started out very rough with our tour driver being extremely rude to us right off the bat. First of all, she pulled up to our meeting location and proceeded to flip through a folder while we stood outside the bus door (never looking up or greeting us) for a solid 2 minutes before she decided to open the door. That set the tone for how she was about to treat us. When we walked in, I asked "is this the bus for the Waimea Canyon tour?", she told us to come in and sit down but did not answer my question. I needed to make sure we were on the right bus! So I asked TWO more times before she snapped at me that yes it was the right bus and that's why she told me to come in and sit down! Yikes! She did lighten up throughout the tour, but that was a rough start and I never wanted to approach her again after that. This tour was specific to the Waimea Canyon. Our tour that day should have been cancelled, however, because it was so foggy up there, we never did get to see WAIMEA CANYON. I understand that these companies need to make money, rain or shine, clear or foggy... but this was a total rip off. We literally did not see the one thing we were on the tour to see. Even a partial refund would have been acceptable. Hell, even a 20% refund! Something! At one point our driver had the heater on so high, everyone was melting. She would pretend she didn't hear anyone complaining until someone finally really raised their voice and asked her to please turn the heat off. We would not take this tour again. Waste of money. Because we lucked out on renting a car during our holiday here in Kauai, we decided to book a tour of Kauai. It's not cheap but worth every penny. Our concierge at Westin Princeville booked for us and we were set. We charged the tour to our room. There's only one way roads on Kauai, hardly any stop lights and super dark at night. Anyways, we weren't feeling adventurous and the weather was confusing. Sunny, windy, rainy, cloudy, etc... damn you mother nature! We chose the Movie tour and glad we did. We got picked up first because we were staying in Princeville. They have videos on the nice, AC coach bus. We drove for miles, nothing but beautiful greenery and mountains. We reached Lihue to pick up the others on this tour. The bus filled up fast and there is something for everyone, young and old on this tour. They give you a sheet of paper listing all the movies filmed. The scenery just speaks for itself. The tour guide Shanoa was very informative, even doing impromptu hula dancing and jokes. We made a super fast quick pit stop at Walmart, I tell ya it's THE CLEANEST Walmart I've ever been in! Wow you go Walmart! We got to pick up some bottled water, snacks and use the bathroom. They tell you when the next restroom stop will be, so go! The parts of the tour that stood out for me: The Coco Palms hotel. A step back in time and a caretaker is there on the grounds. The future of this hotel is unpredictable. The hotel rooms and lots of things were abandonded and strewn about. Smells of mold and dust and sadly, the destruction was from Hurricane Iniki. Larry the singer was entertaining and kind, reminiscing on the days when celebrities sang with him. The 2 falls we visited.... breathtaking, peaceful, mysterious... there were people there making baskets out of leaves and selling real coconut juice! The beaches were just like postcards...no one around (except for Hanalei beach) One beach we went to was beautiful, obelisk on the hilltop but we found out was a breeding ground for hammerhead sharks???? WTF? Hanalei---the mountain that was the inspiration for the song Puff the magic dragon... Hanalei bay/beach? The pier and surroundings were the setting for The Descendants movie. Tour ended with a lunch at Tahiti Nui. Old school casual place, relaxed vibe and cheap eats. The bartender in the Descendants movie was there, she owns the place and when I asked her if I could get a can or bottle of coke to go, she told me to walk down the street to the liquor store cause it's cheaper there! Wow thanks for saving me some $$$. As always, chickens and roosters roaming about. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to get an overview of the north/east part of the island. read more

We arranged to take a Waimea Canyon tour through our cruise line, and Roberts was the company that conduced the tour. The guide was a local of Kauai, so he had many stories to tell us during our commute to and from Waimea Canyon, the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Some areas were treacherous to drive through, so for safety reasons he stopped the narration for a few minutes. We made a couple other stops other than Waimea, including the Spouting Horn and another overlook which I cannot recall the name of. I have been on a lot of organized bus tours, and this one ranks towards the top. read more

Our Robert's Hawaii tour to Waimea Canyon, Spouting Horn and Fern Grotto was one of the highlights of our vacation! It gave us the opportunity to see some of the island's main attractions as well as some of the hidden gems along the way. Our tour guide, Noni was wonderful! She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. As well as being a great driver, she made sure everyone was taken care of (she even kept track of time, for those of us who had flights to catch). We all had a great time. Although this tour is competitively priced, we didn't feel we sacrificed anything. No disappointments, no regrets. The van/bus was clean and well-maintained. Our guide's commentary was fun and informative. From the moment we were picked us up (promptly) at our hotel, to the drop-off at the end of the day, we enjoyed our time with Robert's. The tour of Kauai was a little odd, primarly because of the borderline loony driver. I'll withhold her name as a courtesy to her. If you've seen the movie Rainman, imagine him driving a bus and giving a tour. She wasn't unaccomodating or anything, and kudos for getting us up to the Waimea Canyon and back safely, but some of the "facts" she recited were just wrong. For example, rooms at the Grand Hyatt Poipu beach are in the $300-400 range, not $4,500 per night. Okay, they might have a presidential suite for that price, but the President wouldn't be on this tour so that's irrelevant. A joke as we passed a cemetary went like this "Someone asked me how many people were dead in there, and I said 'All of them'" NIce try. After about three minutes of listening to her narration, I wanted earplugs, seriously. The bus itself was clean and the itinerary was fine. The tour took us to Waimea Canyon, a great gift shop, the spouting horn, Kauai Coiffee and stopped at a canyon whose name I can't recall (near where part of Jurassic Park was filmed, I think, and right beside the main road). So the sites were memorable and beatiful. One easy improvement for this tour would be to stop at some places with a mountain view. I kept trying to take pictures from the bus at 40-50 mph, which didn't work so good. Good for a shot of blurry trees, though. read more

Roberts express never showed up this Sunday morning at 5:30am to take my friend to the airport. When she called Roberts at 5:30am there was no answer. They don't open until 7:00am. It was a horrible way to end your Kauai vacation And start your day .Roberts/ if you are going to take reservations at 5:30 am You should be responsible and answer your phone then too. My family and I had a wonderful movie tour directly due to our wonderful guide, Wendy, and driver, Rocky. The tour took us all along the east side of Kauai, including the closed Coco Palms resort. Amazing experience and wonderful opportunities to take pictures! Wendy was chock full of movie trivia and information on Hawaiian wildlife and culture. She made our whole trip! Wendy, our guide, was very knowledgable, self-deprecating, funny, helpful, warm, etc etc. There are not enough nice things that can and should be said about her. She absolutely made this trip and her local knowledge was essential (she's lived on Kauai for 40 years). Mickey, our driver, was himself a guide and was charming, southern (redundant), kind and equally as knowledgable. He operated our vehicle skillfully. They were on time and greeted us at pickup. My only complaint is we were way too early for our outgoing flight. The Kauai airport took less than 10 mins for two bag scans and to go through TSA as there was nobody in line. We were at the gate two hours before the flight and 1 1/2 hours before boarding. You aren't flying out of LAX. You don't need to be so early. read more

Sent an email request for a airport pickup. Did not receive a response from anybody. I did call prior to sending the email and no response to the inquiry either. We arrived at LIH and I called to find out the emails go to their main office in Oahu. I called back 18 minutes later informed the agent there was one of their shuttles presently in the lot. We were not impressed with Roberts Hawaii and would not recommend it. Our flight was 1 hour delayed and when we arrived, we expected to be greeted by happy employees; instead, the greeter and the driver barely said 2 words to us and seemed very unhappy to be there. Later, we called to change our departure and they were very rude and not very accommodating with our request. The gentleman on the phone literally said "ugh we don't have any later times". We took the Waimea Canyon tour (without the Fern Grotto visit). I imagine tours like these are guide-dependent, and we had a great guide, Nani. Her narration was informative and colored with her knowledge and personal experiences as a Kauai native and lifelong resident. The time was used very efficiently; we saw everything on our itinerary, and then some, and had an appropriate amount of time at each of the stops. The website doesn't mention plans for lunch, so we went ahead and brought lunch just in case. We did, in fact, stop in Waimea town for lunch, so other tour-goers had their choice of eateries close by in town. I would definitely recommend this tour. read more

Buses were very clean, which is a must. The drivers themselves were awesome, very funny without being annoying and chock-full of neat info about the islands. The Kauai Movie Tour was really a highlight of our trip to Kauai. Our guide Lani and our driver Sandy were entertaining (Lani was a little overly talkative, but in a charming and endearing way), and even though some of their tidbits weren't QUITE accurate, and the film clips looked pretty low-quality, everything that was wrong with the tour was completely offset by everything that was RIGHT with it. The locations were perfect and we saw things we would never have taken the time to find ourselves. The toughest part was, arguably, sitting in a bus for such a long time -- it's a bouncy, sometimes jarring experience. But the tour offers such a beautiful, memorable trek through the Garden Isle with familiar, iconic movies and TV shows as reference points that it in EVERY way lived up to the expectation and was worth the time and money spent. Highly recommended, especially for movie buffs! My biggest constructive criticism: Lunch was not very good, which is more the fault of the restaurant than the tour company. Also, consider working with a movie expert to revise the script a little and update the clips. On the plus side, the long video about "Jurassic Park" on the return part of the trip was fascinating. And having a local guide made all the difference! All in all, we were very pleased with our experience. read more

Just like the other yelper said, they said it's a tour till 3pm, but we were sent to lunch at 12 and back to the hotel 1:20 already ! We had only 15-20 mins at each stop. Only 15 mins at the coffee tasting, yes, only 15mins! She said we didn't have enough time to stay longer .The driver was nice but the tour is a joke! This place was extremely difficult to book, and on that basis alone, I would avoid it like the plague. I called on Monday morning, and was promptly put on hold for 15 minutes. I decided to have the front desk of my hotel give it a try, which they did, and amazingly got through. I booked the full-day tour, 8:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., with stops at Spouting Horn, Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto, among others. We waited until 9:00 a.m. in the lobby of our hotel until we got worried, and had the front desk staff call. The tour representative assured us the driver was on her way. When she arrived, she blurted out, "We were going to leave you because of the time!" Excuse me? You were going to leave us? We were the ones who had to call you to see if you were even going to show up the day of the tour. The driver then got on the van's loudspeaker and, in an apparent effort to embarrass us, said, "That's why we have you wait outside on the road, people, so we can see where you are." First of all, we were never, at any time, told that we were supposed to wait outside on the road for the van (such a suggestion appears to me to be ludicrous at its core, as there are several tour companies driving down the road at any given time. Are they supposed to pull over at every person on the side of the road to see if that person is on the tour?). Second, Robert's had my cell phone number, and could have called if there was any confusion. In fact, they had called the day before to confirm. Third, if the driver truly could not find us, wouldn't the logical solution be to park and go to the lobby to track down the guests? Her excuse sounded to me to be a CYA-type of cover-up. The tour was not half-bad, as we did get to see most of the important stops, and even got to stop at a coffee plantation to taste free samples. The customer service, however, has some improving to do. read more

Absolutely loved our movie tour today. We mainly went because hubby wanted to see where Gilligan's Island was filmed. We thought it would be a bit hoaky, but our guide Wendy made it so enjoyable and fun. She seems to truly enjoy her job. She not only shared the scenes from movies but knew so much about the history and culture of the island. Possibly the best tour we've ever done. Mickey, our guide, was kind of like a character in a movie himself - entertaining and funny with a dash of southern charm (he's from Alabama). We loved how he brought the stories alive from the video movie clips with his own jokes and he seemed genuinely passionate about movies and the history behind the making of them. For anyone who loves movies and/or Elvis, you will love that you will walk away with tons of facts and trivia. You almost feel Elvis on some areas - ok that might be going too far, but you get what I mean. The best tours transport you to that era or time. We got to see most of the island because of the tour, with our brave driver Diane who managed to get us out of some very tight places. We even stopped at a "hidden beach" that we would have never seen had it not been for the tour. This tour offered lunch at Tahiti Nui where the Decendents was filmed. Burgers/chicken or kalua pork and fries - good, but what was really good - the Mai Tais (you need to purchase this, but they were the best ones we've had so far). When you stop for lunch, I suggest you visit Pink's creamery around the corner - the best ice cream I've had - loved my coffee flavor - it was creamy, rich, and tasted like it was made with love. We saw the Southwest side and Waimea. Canyon. It was nice for me to not have to keep my eyes on the road and look out the window. read more

We did both the Big Island full day tour and Kauai's Waimea Canyon and the Fern Grotto tour. The drivers were very nice, and Larry, the driver & guide on the Kauai tour was very knowledgeable about the island. The smaller bus was more comfortable than the large bus. The large bus took longer to get back to our hotel because it had more people to drop off. We noticed that we were the only people who tipped the driver on one of the bus, and less than half the people tipped the driver. read more

We booked this tours online since it was much cheaper then the price we were quoted from the concierge at the Westin Princeville by ~$20 each! Our tour was canceled due to flooding in Hanalei, but was rescheduled for the next day. So plan the tour for the beginning of your trip just in case. We were the first to be picked up at 7am since the tour starts in Lihue. We were shown a documentary on the hurricane that hit in 1992 and the damage it left behind. Our tour driver Sunny and guide Chenoa were great, informative and fun. We watched clips from movies along the tour related to the sites we were seeing. We saw so many beautiful sites! The weather was crazy, one minute pouring and then sunny, then cloudy, windy you name it. The tour had several highlights for me, first, the stop at Coca Palms, the abdandoned hotel (since the hurricane). You could smell the mold and dust. It was a sad sight to see. The ground, however, were nice. "Uncle" Larry Rivera was there and performed a few songs while our guide did the hula. He posed for pictures with us and talked about the history of the hotel and all the guests he had performed for. At 82, he had lots to say. Secondly, I loved seeing the sights related to the movie Descendants. We saw the beach George Clooney was running down and the house he goes to face his wifes lover. Then we ate lunch at the Tiki Nui Restaurant where George Clooney met up with his cousin in the movie. Lunch was nothing special, but it was included in the tour. Overall, we had a great time.
