My wife and I purchased a cabin in Big Bear with a backyard that was less than usable--just a cement slab with no privacy, no fence, and no character. We had a vision for transforming this space, and after meeting Justin, we knew he could bring it to life. Justin created a beautiful fence outlining the property, hung bistro lights from the house and along the roofline, excavated the hillside, and built a retaining wall with a built-in planter for spring flowers and a bench for the dining table. To the right, he added a built-in BBQ with power, and he designed the backyard with a couple of new trees and a hammock with hidden support poles. We faced a challenge with irrigation since we didn't want to run a waterline to the back of the property. Justin ingeniously developed a system using rain barrels to store water and a battery-operated irrigation system to keep the new trees healthy. I'm so glad to have met Justin who was referred to us as he had installed the gorgeous turf, the drip system, and various plants in our Big Bear Lake home we just purchased. He might have also done the fire pit here as well since it looks very well done like the turf in both the front and back yard. Justin took the time to show us how everything works and showed us exactly what to do with our landscaping water pipes and valves in the winter and spring/summer to prevent the pipes from freezing and breaking. He also pointed out where the mainline for the landscaping is, something I didn't even think about but is definitely good to know! Based on how I felt about him and the good things the seller of the home had said about him, I hope we will have a long-term relationship and that I would be able to refer him to more people as we get to know more people in the Big Bear Lake area. On April 2, 2021, Justin Roberts, Owner of Justin Roberts Lancscape, Inc., accepted a deposit for a third of the entire cost of a project on our back yard.  The project included a retaining wall, excavating and leveling to accommodate a concrete patio extension, removal of mulch and replacement with stone, and planting of a mixture of drought tolerant plants with soil amendments.  At the time of contract, he indicated that he was busy, but as ours was a small job, he could fit it in his schedule. After putting us off all through April, May and June, he finally agreed to start the project on July 1, 2021.  Instead, on July 1, 2021, he texted us that he would not be able to do our project and would refund our deposit, which he did. By approaching his business in this manner, he cost us the entire season of enjoyment of our back yard.  By the time we were able to find another contractor, define the parameters and commit to the work, the time needed to complete the project has extended another two months. Seeing his willingness to hold our money for a quarter of a year, meet our inquiries with attitude and then cavalierly walk away from his commitment should give you pause if you are considering him for your landscaping project. read more
