Gee, I didn't know there was a sliver of trails between the larger Joaquin Miller Park and the much larger Redwood Regional Parks. Why, it even has its own pay parking lot ($5) which I noticed a lot of people ignore. I, on the other hand, spent five minutes trying to figure out how the damn ticket machine works. Once I parked, it turned out there's a playground, a huge lawn area with picnic tables, and a swimming pool - none of which held the least bit of interest to me since I'm not a harried young parent looking to entertain my kids. I was looking for steps, so I walked in the woods on the Roberts Ridge Trail to the open Redwood Bowl and made a U-turn onto the lengthier Graham Trail. This one wound itself around the hillsides overlooking Redwood Regional. I eventually reached a rustic, rocky dog park that overlooked Oakland. Nice - but how do I get back without retracing my steps? Well, after some inadvertent rock climbing, I made my way back through the Sequoia-Bayview Trail in Joaquin Miller. Oy, such a pleasant circuit. RELATED - Up for a hike? Here's a collection of trails I've walked and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2OrC8nU

Loved this park and trailhead! We had planned to meet up at the dog park, One of our party had bad phone reception and parked here. Well it's a pretty nice park with a nearby pool & playground. So let's start here... The trails are uphill and gorgeous the redwood trees raise up to the clouds on this beautiful fall day with blue skies. The air was so fresh. The smell of trees was delightful. Spending a day in nature with my daughter's... priceless! Free parking. We didn't have any problems. Although I have read reviews about car break ins. Please be safe and do not leave valuables in your car. Two parking lots, one has guard shack but they're not collecting parking fees until January 2021~ Per the ranger on duty. Covid19 precautions seemed to be followed by just about everyone I seen. Except one tween boy on a bike. Not bad! Very close to The Chabot Space Center!

Absolutely beautiful! Who doesn't love amazing redwoods?! We had a delightful day amongst the trees!

Just adding to the review posted on Tilden regional, redwood was on the other end, of a awesome hike, and where I made the loop through most of redwood, since it's a park close to work and home, it's one i visit often, always peaceful to hike the redwoods, lots of options of trails and workouts, easy to butt kicking. It's a popular park, so be ready for crowds, especially near the parking lots. It's like a mini Muir Woods, redwoods aren't quite as big, but especially through the stream trail, you can walk through the heart of the forest. EBMUD does a great job of maintaining the park and making improvements, Covid has slowed this down a bit. Always a great place to hike. Gotta keep on, keeping on. Tru & blu. Happy yelping, God bless and cheers

We booked Roberts for wedding ceremony because we wanted a redwood wedding. We really like the park in general so we booked the Bay Vista & Madrone sites to accommodate for all of our guest and it was perfect. They also have plenty of picnic tables which was great for our cocktail hour. The park staff were friendly and helpful. There was plenty of parking but it was a Friday so not sure what it is like on the weekends. The bathrooms were close by and easy to access. We really like this park and if you are looking for a great outdoor spot to hold an event this is a great option.

We ended up here by accident while looking for the parking lot for Redwood Regional Park, but glad we did! We parked in the lot close to Chabot Science Center at the "staging area" and walked several miles along a beautiful hiking trail. It was mostly pretty flat but with some small inclines /declines. We passed some tent cabins, restrooms, but mostly just very tall redwoods. There were quite a few mountain bikers on the dirt trail. This is a great place to go hiking and not too crowded, but not too remote either. I had cell reception with Verizon our whole hike.

Machine pay to park. I did see a park ranger drive around in a golf cart so I'm assuming they do check dashboards for the parking receipt.

What a hidden gem in the Oakland hills! If you have kids and live in the East Bay, you've got to do yourself a favor and check out this place. I've never seen such a big playground that was so well kept and surrounded by redwood trees. There are even some walking/hiking trails and a pool which has a small entry fee. Location is off of Skyline and you can easily drive past the entry even though there is a sign so make sure you use the Directions option in Yelp because it got me there with no issues. Once you turn in, there is a booth with a machine where you pay to park. Fee is $5 for the day and add $2 if you have dogs. I don't know what happened with the machine but it took me directly to the pay page and charged me $7 without giving me any options so I ended up paying for a dog even though I didn't bring one. Park was completely empty on a Thursday afternoon. There were a few kids that showed up after 3pm but before that we had the entire playground to ourself. The play structure has multiple size slides for kids of all ages and something to discover in every corner. Lots of climbing and running around to be done. Flooring has wood chips which I prefer over sand and was relatively clean except for maybe 2-3 pieces of trash. Swings were a short walk up towards the public restrooms area where there is a giant patch of grass with bbq's for parties, picnics and outdoor games like soccer. My kid enjoyed exploring along the outskirts of the playground where we found sticks and pine cones. We even got to eat a little snack in the sway boat which has a small table on one side. Planning to come here again with the whole family for an entire day next time. Great way to spend a beautiful day in the East Bay if you've got kids!

When we visited, following a prior event, there were already lots of kids on a gray, windy, overcast day. This park is spacious on the interior but parking on the exterior is limited. The parking lot is minimal for the amount of space to explore, which is awesome but makes it difficult to navigate up close parking. Fast forward to yesterday. We had a restaurant in Albany that we wanted to check out so of course we had to hike first to get our appetites whet. I found a loop I wanted us to try on AllTrails. It's called the Dunn Trail--Monteiro Trail Loop. We parked at the Richard C. Trudeau Conference Center on Skyline Blvd. It was the perfect spot to start. Free parking. Public restrooms (even flush toilets!). If you have a dog, most of this trail is off-leash which I have never seen before. Every dog we saw were well behaved and having a great time. We don't have dogs of our own but I am a big dog person. This particular loop was exactly what I was looking for. It had several different biomes. Despite what AllTrails said, it is not all shaded but it was a beautiful, sunny, windy day. We saw lots of wildflowers blooming. We found there to be a difference between AllTrails and our measurements. AllTrails said it was roughly 500+ ft elevation gain but ours said 1000. That's a huge difference! But I would believe ours over theirs. There were a lot of inclines. Also, their's said it was 3.5 miles but ours said a mile longer. The trails were all very well maintained. We saw gorgeous views, small waterfalls/creeks, redwoods, butterflies--just lovely. It was less busy than I anticipated but we arrived before 9 a.m. We finished by 11. This is a big park and lots to explore. Highly recommend!

There are bathrooms by the Redwood Bowl but we couldn't find any helpful maps so just used our phones to navigate. The trail we ended up taking was around 4 miles and took 2 hours. Most of it was shaded and among redwood trees so I really enjoyed that this could work as an afternoon hike. It's a moderate difficulty level with some steep areas. There's also a popular picnic area with grills and an archery range. You could even walk to the nearby swimming pool or visit the Chabot. We only did one half of the hiking loop so will be back to check out the other side.
