We used this lawyer for our closing on our new home. We closed at the end of October. Prior to…read moreclosing, we had an inspection completed on the property. We signed a contract to have the inspection fees come out at closing (from the funds of the sale of our previous home). Closing day comes and we sign until our fingers cramp. Including, signing the document that states the break down of where all the funds are going (including the home inspection fee). A month and a half goes by and we notice a charge on our credit card for the home inspection fee. Of course, we are surprised, as this should have been taken care of by the lawyers office already. I called the lawyers office to inquire. The secretary acted as if I bothered her by calling. She said she would check on it and call back. When she called back, she told me that it was never paid, because they did not have an address for the home inspection company. She states that the invoice sent from my agent who received it from the home inspection company) had the address portion cut off. She said they called the company and my agent multiple times to get this info, but no one called her back. She said that they would issue me a new check. My husband went over to pick it up. While he was out, I called my agent. She said she never received a call from them and also sent me the email of the invoice that she sent them, which had the address of the company clearly visible. I also called the home inspection company. They informed me that they never received a call from the attorney, which I completely believe. Seriously, if they had received a call, would they not have called back? They want their money, so of course they would call back! My husband came back with the check and informed me of how nonchalant the attorney (Richard) was about the situation. When my husband inquired for further details on why the check was not paid to the inspection company, Richard simply replied with "we didn't have an address ". Now, I'm no scientist, but with technology today, if the whole thing about the address being "cut off of the invoice" was true, why not google it? Better yet, why not look at the invoice via the email sent by my agent with a clearly visible address on it? We are also being charged with an additional fee by the inspection company, due to the inspection fee not being paid within the agreed upon timeframe. My husband asked Richard who was going to be responsible for the additional fee. Richard handed him the check and said, "that's all there is. I can't help you with that" and walked back in his office. DO NOT use this attorney. Think about it.....if we had not realized the charge on our credit card, we would have never known that the attorney didn't send the fee and they would have kept our money (which was no small change). My agent stated that she will never use him again. She also spread the word to her colleagues. Home buying is stressful and expensive. We do not have money to throw away or to just hand over to a lawyer who didn't do his job. The 1 Star is only because I had to rate in order to post. It should be a no star rating.
