Very professional, very good with the furkids, and the vet and assistants are knowledgeable, but they will not in anyway try to work with clients in regards of payment. And the Care Credit is impossible to get unless you have perfect credit. So, if you're struggling to pay a vet bill or have to save or make installment payments this is not the vet to go to. I've been going through Dr. Robertson since 2017, so there's an established connection between my cat and the staff. Besides that, they don't always respond to emails anymore. For example, I inquired 8 days ago via email about my cat's weight, yet no response. Eight days. In the past, I did not have this issue. If you don't post a five star review or have a critique about their services, I notice they have it removed or make an excuse. Attached is my last email inquiring about what else to do about my cat's weight. Apparently, not good enough to receive the slightest reply.

To start, note that my dog Cody and I have had to move around a lot over the past 6 months which has been really hard on the both of us. Thanks to SAH during our months in Gainesville, Cody had possibly the best care that he has had over his entire travels across the country. More importantly, Dr. Nipper was the first vet that we both have seen over the past 6 months that actually thought about how our specific situation was causing us both anxiety, so she carefully considered a plan to both reduce Cody's stress and allow me to maintain his trust so training wasn't so unpredictable and prone to backsliding. Instead of prescribing heavy tranquilizers (a common recommendation that I was repeatedly told at vets before going to SAH.) she gave me some good advice and prescribed doggie Prozac, which -after a month- really helped his anxiety without changing his behavior like Trazadone does. I was able to keep up the general approach of positive reinforcement without worrying that he will become a nervous wreck. Dr. Nipper took the time to consider Cody's specific situation, especially his history of changing houses every couple of months. Other vets never even considered this. Another part was she addressed his allergies, a diagnosis she made after asking questions about whether he scratching all the time, something common for dogs not used to Florida. Other Florida vets didn't even bring this up and now that he's not scratching all the time he's just a happier dog. Finally, I want to also point out that it wasn't just Dr. Nipper that made suburban a great animal Hospital. There's staff is terrific and very careful to make sure that he got what is needed and that there weren't any changes to his health before doing anything. It's just good to know that they are careful, especially when I realize that a lot of offices don't pay that kind of attention. TL;DR: I would recommend both Dr. Nipper and the staff at Suburban Animal Hospital to anyone who wants the best for their animal companions. I have seen lots of examples of less than stellar offices in just a few months prior, and SAH is the best care he's gotten since he was a teensy pup back in San Francisco. And while we sadly are leaving town once again, at least I now know how to make sure he gets good care, especially after seeing what I thought was typical care that I realized I shouldn't have to settle for. It's not like Suburban Animal Hospital is expensive or anything. If anything I've experienced that how much you pay for the same service has nothing to do with that quality of service. And while leaving them behind is a bummer, I am happy that Cody's health benefited so much from both the care he received there as well as me being much better informed than I was before I in that office. And if anyone from SAH is reading this, thanks so much for providing such a positive experience and results for both Cody and I! Bless you all and I hope our paths cross again down the road!

Nine months ago, we were told to take our dog, Walker, home and enjoy our last week with him…read more It all started with diarrhea, soft stools, and gradual weight loss. At first, our local veterinarian thought he had low protein. Then he was treated with antibiotics. By the time Walker was finally diagnosed with pythiosis in his GI tract, we were told his case was terminal and that there was nothing more that could be done. We were absolutely devastated. Then our neighbor did some research and came across the incredible work of Dr. Justin Walton at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. That research changed everything. Dr. Walton and the entire UF Veterinary team gave us something we thought we had lost--hope. Their expertise, compassion, and willingness to fight for Walker saved his life. Today, nine months later, Walker is pythium-free, off all of his medications, healthy, happy, and back to being himself. What once felt impossible has become our reality. There are no words to express how grateful we are to Dr. Walton and every member of the UF team. Thank you for dedicating your lives to advancing veterinary medicine, for never giving up on dogs like Walker, and for giving our family so much more time with our best friend. If your pet has been diagnosed with pythiosis, don't lose hope. Seek a second opinion and learn about the work being done at UF. Walker is living proof that there can be hope, even when the prognosis seems impossible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Dr. Walton and the entire UF Veterinary team. You gave Walker--and our family--a second chance.

I had a deeply disturbing experience with Dr. Tassala Djennadi…read more I came in asking for a sterile needle to administer subcutaneous fluids to my cat, who has late-stage kidney disease and requires daily care to stay alive. Because I had been out of town, he had already gone over 48 hours without fluids. This is not optional care..it is essential. Without asking a single follow-up question about his condition or how long he had gone without treatment, she told me she couldn't provide a needle and that he could "wait another day." When I explained that he had already missed over two days of fluids and that I was concerned, she told me that if it were a "real emergency," I would have planned better. Let that sink in: a veterinarian told me that my cat missing multiple days of medically necessary fluids was not an emergency because of my "planning." There was zero compassion, no attempt to help, no alternatives offered, and no concern for the animal. I was standing there holding his prescribed subcutaneous fluid bag with his name and information clearly labeled and even offered to provide his SOAP note, yet instead of helping, she, in an obviously mockiny and unhelpful way, suggested I could always spend $200 for needles if I were to bring my cat in for a full exam just to be entered into their system before they would sell me needles, fully aware that this wasn't possible that night. I told her plainly that my only options were to go home and attempt to reuse an old needle or have her help my cat who urgently needed fluids, and she still refused. I was ultimately turned away and left in the unacceptable position of having to consider reusing an old needle just to care for my cat.

Last month I took one of our dogs here for his annual shots and I liked the vet, whose name I believe was Melissa White. I didn't really have to deal with any vet "tech" that day. We have another dog that is anxious when anyone tries to trim his nails so I talked to Melissa about bringing him there to have his nails trimmed. She suggested we bring him in JUST FOR THAT since he'd just had his shots updated by another vet. I had made an appointment for him to get his nails trimmed a few weeks ago at 8 am and my husband had to deal with one of their vet "techs" who was a very unprofessional female, acted really nasty, obnoxious, and was actually looking for a PHYSICAL fight with my husband! We had gotten there about 10 minutes before our appointment time and I went in alone to tell the receptionist we were there but my husband would stay in my truck with our dog until they were ready for him since he would be very anxious when he came in and couldn't wait inside. The receptionist told me they were ready for him and my husband should bring him in. My husband brought our dog in while I waited outside in my truck with our other dog. My husband was brought into an examination room and a vet "tech" came in and wanted to do an "examination" so likely they could charge us for more than just a nail trim. My husband told her he had heard me on the phone make the appointment for ONLY for a nail trim, and the vet we used to take our dog to told us that they had sent all of his medical records to them, which one of the "techs" denied. My husband also told her we'd had our dog for 10 years and he tried to tell her exactly how his nails needed to be trimmed so he wouldn't go wild. She acted like she knew everything and didn't want to hear what he had to say. She then kept coming in and out of the room, making him wait and become more anxious, then my husband said she came in, grabbed our dog's paw, squeezed it and clipped one nail. Our dog went wild. He jumped all over my husband, kept scratching him, and my husband had blood all over his arms from being scratched. The "tech" then wanted to take our dog away from my husband and "bring him into the back" and said we'd come too early and there weren't enough people to help! Bizarre since they told me they were ready for him and to come in! My husband then called me on the phone and said he wanted to leave because the "tech" had no sense. Of course she really did not have any sense since she just wanted to do what SHE wanted to do and not listen to my husband who knew way more about our dog than she could possibly know. Then a nasty tattooed and obnoxious "tech" came into the room after he told me on the phone that the other "tech" had no sense. She tried literally to start a physical fight with my husband! She obviously didn't care about our dog going crazy because of what the other "tech" did, or the fact that my husband's skin was bleeding everywhere. My husband asked to speak to the actual vet since our appointment verification said WE WOULD HAVE AN APPOINTMENT with a vet named "Courtney Sorenson", not a bunch of ignorant know it all "techs" who knew NOTHING. Obviously being informed that we had an appointment with an actual vet was a lie because the big, nasty, tatted up "tech" refused to let my husband speak to the vet. She then blocked the door so he couldn't leave, told him he wasn't allowed to criticize "her staff", which was BS since she wasn't a vet, just an obnoxious employee. She got in his face, and kept saying, "Come at me! Come at me!" My husband walked toward her and she stepped aside from the door and he left. When he came out to the parking lot I got out of my truck because she followed him out into the parking lot yelling like a lunatic saying that we were banned from that place and said our lives obviously sucked. I thought, wow, what a crazy lunatic she is if she thought we would ever, ever, come back to that place again! I would never trust a place like that with my dogs for hiring such an obnoxious nasty hag. As she stood there yelling my husband called her a fat tatted up moron, which she played out as true. Then she started yelling at me even though I hadn't had ANY contact with her at all. I told her to look at herself in the mirror, clearly it was obviously HER life that sucked. I then told her I would write a bad review and she said, "Go ahead!", so here it is! As an attorney I have dealt with deranged people my whole career, and I clearly I believe she is one of them and should never be around anyone's pets. She should probably just be flipping hamburgers at a fast food joint and have no contact with customers. Fortunately our lives ONLY suck when we meet lunatics like her!

However, my recent visit was extremely upsetting and disappointing. I brought my cat in on Thursday after noticing his stomach moving rapidly for about a week. The staff member who checked me in was polite, and since it was a drop-off appointment, I left my cat in their care. Later, I was called back in and met with Dr. Hudak, who seemed visibly distressed. She told me I needed to take my cat to an emergency hospital. When I asked what was wrong and if there was anything they could do at Banfield, she mentioned they could run an X-ray and bloodwork for about $300. I asked if there was any way to get the bill handled differently or set up a payment option, and her exact response was: "If you're having money issues, then it's best to put your pet to sleep." Hearing that made me panic and break down -- I was in shock. There was no empathy or compassion in how it was said, and it felt like my pet's life only mattered if I could pay upfront. After doing the X-ray, they told me to go immediately to the emergency hospital. I paid $387 before leaving, but when I asked for printed records to bring to the ER, they refused, saying I just needed to go. I felt completely dismissed and unheard during one of the scariest moments for my cat and me. This experience left me heartbroken and deeply disappointed. I hope Banfield addresses how their staff communicate with pet owners in crisis, especially when emotions and fear are already so high. Compassion should always come first.

In the exam room, we first met with a sales lady who was hard core trying to sell us on an expensive wellness insurance plan for our cat. She said that the insurance plan, if we committed to buying it would save us a ton of money toward my cat's upcoming dental surgery, it would cover dental x-rays, bloodwork, office visits, etc etc. The only thing it wouldn't cover would be the actual extractions he needs. The estimate Banfield gave me for my cat to have extractions was inflated about three times the cost of an estimate I received recently at another vet plus they wanted me to pay for this ridiculous wellness plan ( it was supposed to save us a ton of money) on top of it. In summary, I left extremely disappointed, very frustrated and felt like I basically paid a $64 exam fee to listen to a high pressure sales pitch. I felt like all they cared about was money and not my poor cat at all. They did absolutely nothing for my cat who is in extreme pain and distress. They wasted my time completely and my poor cat got absolutely no resolution. We will be going elsewhere for his surgery.
