Was at Robin Williams Meadows today for the SF AIDS Walk and honestly, I can't think of a more fitting place for it. There's something about this spot that just feels right for bringing people together. Big enough for thousands of walkers to gather, but it doesn't swallow you up like some massive venue would. Today the energy was incredible. Seeing all those families, friends, survivors, supporters, spread out across the grass before the walk started, it hit me how Robin would've loved this. The logistics actually work too, which isn't always a given in SF. Easy to get to, plenty of room to move around, and the paths connecting to the rest of the park make it simple to flow in and out. No getting trapped in a bottleneck situation. read more

Checked this out for sentimental value and of course the natural beauty. It happens to be one of the many meadows in Golden Gate Park. Robin Williams Meadow is located on the east side of this. Located close to the famous Hippie Hill. There's lots of room for chilling, playing, or stuff. A lot of meadows are in this park, and these basically are open areas. It's one of the good locations for festivals. There's always some kind of gathering going on. Many times there's dogs running around. This is a good place for them too. Also it's close to the playground with the carousel. This makes it also a fun place to bring families. Fun place like the guy it was named after. It's good for the festivals in the summer. The other times it's quieter and you can bring your pets or whatever. read more

Comedy Day is a fun free event held at Robin Williams Meadow annually, which I attend almost every year including this past Sunday. It's a great space for festivals and gatherings, nice to lay out a mat or blanket in the grass and bask in the sun. And this you must, as the trees are all the way in the back, at least for this particular show. The crowd does stretch to the shady area in the distance, including along Hippie Hill, so lounging beneath the trees is definitely an option if you don't mind being far from the stage which is situated near the carousel and studio. There are also a couple food trucks on site during the comedy festival, and this place does fit numerous food stands and vendors for bigger events, ie. foodie and music fests held here. But on a regular day, it's simply a serene setting surrounded by nature, clean and inviting, nothing fancy to make it stand out from the other fields of green at Golden Gate Park, and that's the beauty of it. Parking nearby is difficult on event days, but otherwise it's not an issue. read more

** The following review reflects my experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I swear the only times I've been here was when there were thousands of people huddled with fancy picnic set-ups during Opera in the Park or maybe It was Comedy Day or was it Oysterfest? Anyhow, now with the pandemic in full effect, I have finally seen the meadow itself and I didn't even know it was renamed for Robin a couple of years back. If you don't know, it's a five-acre expanse of green that I recently came upon on my way to the Entwined Lighted Forest over in Peacock Meadow. The sparsely populated space is ideal during these socially distant times when even sharing two ends of a long bench turns into a dicey proposition. I got a little wistful looking out at the expanse of green, remembering the weekends and weekday afternoons spent with my son on this beautiful grassy meadow. After school soccer, that lasted 4 months, he really wasn't into it. Weekends when he was small, accidentally running into the annual bubble festival ("bubbleth!" he used to exclaim), marveling as we watched this guy create bubbles the size of a car. Adjacent to the Koret Children's Quarter and the beautiful refurbished carousel, this gorgeous stretch of green, full of happy times, feels right it was renamed the Robin Williams Meadow. Big, open field in Golden Gate Park. This is where you can often hear the drummers. Although there is a wide open field, there are trees along the edges which help with providing shade. This weekend there were a wide range of activities happening here from frisbee, soccer, people playing catch with a baseball, and so much more. It will probably always be Sharon Meadow in my mind, but I don't mind the mental gymnastics I go through each time I come here and try to remember whether they renamed Hippie Hill or Sharon Meadow after the late, great Robin Williams. I associate it with Hippie Hill, because it's right next to Hippie Hill. Also, because of another ----- -------- , which I'll ----- ------- -----. Sorry, I had to edit that part out, lest someone else steal an FtR from me. It used to be unpleasant. Then it was pleasant. That first impression of schlepping Escape from New York Pizza from the shop to Hippie Hill right after I moved to San Francisco made a really big negative impression on me that I've long gotten over but which I sometimes still ponder. You could do much worse than spending lots of time here. The only times I would truly avoid it, other than when it's pouring rain, are 4/20 and around Outside Lands. Whether there is an event, festival or nothing going on at all, Robin Williams Meadow in GGP is the spot. Formerly known as sharon meadow, this spot across from hippie hill has hosted generations of San Franciscans and visitors. They host an annual comedy festival here, hence the new namesake. The annual 420 celebration is held here as well, and hosted close to 19,000 people in 2019. Being on the eastern end of the park, you have a better chance of sun here than other spots, but not as much as Delores Park. The grass is very well maintained and there are paths around the area. Tons of space for your picnic and whatnot, even spece to play games with balls or frisbees. I liked the nice landscaping all around the meadow, go explore! Bonus for the carousel, arboretum and stadium all being very close by. For a spacious afternoon break from the city or to attend a fun event, Robin Williams Meadow is the spot read more

Was at Sharon Meadow on June 28th for Alice's 2015 Summerthing concert. This was my first Alice concert here after attending my last one at Speedway Meadows. The security check line was short and process was efficient. You could bring in food and your bottled drink containers must be sealed. You pass by the food vendors before you reach the concert area. Bring a picnic blanket or beach towel and choose a spot on the large grassy area in front of the stage or on the hill. Parking can be challenging close-by, but parking was plentiful 5-6 blocks northeast of the venue. The line-up for this concert was Elle King, Rachel Platten, Mat Kearney and headlined by Kelly Clarkson. Great friendly crowd out to enjoy great, free music. Overall, it felt like a better location than the former Speedway Meadows. read more

Recommendation: Nice place, a great grassy hill to sit on and an expansive meadow as well. Tip: You can bring food and sealed drink containers in, so avoid the extremely long lines for expensive food and drink and bring food! Also bring a picnic blanket and something to weigh it down with! I was here a couple weeks ago for the Alice 97.3 Summerthing, a Sunday afternoon music festival with headliners Mat Kearney and Kelly Clarkson. We got there about 30 minutes before the first artist played, and thankfully the security line was pretty short. If you don't have a bag you can walk right through, but if you do have a bag they do a quick inspection. I was able to bring my DSLR camera in for this particular event, which was nice! After we went through security, it was a few hundred feet over the flat grassy meadow until we got to the concert area. We had to cut between the already-lengthy food lines in order to get to the meadow to lay down a blanket, but once we did we were set for the afternoon! One thing I was surprised about was that the organizers of the Summerthing event didn't provide access to free water anywhere within the event fencing. There was a booth selling $3 cartons of water, but that was it. All in all, I had a pretty good time! The weather was beautiful and the security was pretty lax, which made attending the event that much nicer since we could bring in food. I'd definitely return to go to another Alice 97.3 event now that I know what to bring! read more

Chill spot for the free Alice music festivals: Summerthing and Now & Zen! Expect to wait in long lines in the morning. Or if you come kinda late, it's kinda sweet because you don't have to wait in line that long. The tradeoff is that you're spot on the lawn won't be as good. Honestly, I've only ever come to this meadow for the Now and Zen concerts. I love the space for the event. It's spacious and fairly flat with plenty of well-kept grass. Trees surround the flatland. It's the perfect venue for concerts and festivals. However, there's not much there so other than the event, I don't see much of a reason to come out here. Not a bad place at all (still beautiful), but on a scale, compared to the other meadows that GGPark has to offer, it's kinda bland. read more

Came here for Oysterfest and was really disappointed in the food. The oysters weren't fresh and the fried oyster made me really sad that it was not good. It was really cold that day, so food got cold fast too - but since I'm reviewing the venue, I think the meadow was large enough for an event like Oysterfest. When I looked back at where I was sitting during the concert, the entire floor was covered with people! Crazy! If you go early, the food and stage area is not full, but as soon as it hit 2pm and after, it got crowded. Make sure you bring a blanket next time so you have something to sit on the grass with - something I forgot when I went. read more

Been here for a couple of events- Oysterfest & Alice Summerthing- and all were good experiences. I enjoy the venue, Sharon Meadow, because it offers more than just the green grass . Sharon meadows boasts a tennis court, an indoor recreational area, and even a children's park. During big events, such as the Oysterfest, Sharon Meadows is actually a nice venue because the hills provide nice seatings to view performances without difficulty! Thanks, Sharon meadow! read more

Came here for a Halloween party; there's a great children's playground here (it is very spacious) and clean restrooms. There's a merry go round inside one of the buildings next to the playground. Parking can be a challenge, I think I got lucky and swiped a spot as someone was leaving; will probably opt for an uber next time there's an event. read more
