From literally the first session our son had with Dr. Sweeney and her colleagues, we have seen…read morebreathtaking improvements in our son's ability to express himself. You may be reading this and thinking this is hyperbole but we brought him in after a speech regression and had our expectations very low. We were expecting a handful of words. After the first speech block he did, we saw miraculous results--phrases and songs and the like. Serious grab the Kleenex stuff. Since then, we have only seen greater milestones passed, funny moments of commenting and describing, and challenging of our son that shows they get him and know what he can say and do. If you have had your kiddo see a speech therapist you know what that means. If you want to engage speech therapists for your child--of any age--from whom you will see significant results and who are smart and tailored in their approach to cracking the code of how your kid operates, look no more. Highest recommendation.

Promised us he would have a couple of words at the conclusion of the therapy. We tried. And failed. Sweeney and Augustin is considered out of network and while they charged us 6K the insurance only counted 1200. Worse, it was considered out of network so even the 1200 simply went against the out of network deductible. This should have been avoided by doing a pre-authorization but something they didn't offer or encourage. They overpromised, hugely overcharged and didn't deliver.

My son has been seeing Teresa for many years. She worked for Julie Kahn & Associates (another…read morefabulous practice) in Highland Park for awhile and then opened up her own practice in Northfield this summer. Teresa specializes in myofunctional therapy, which uses physical therapy exercises to improve breathing, facial posture and bite. While my son is expected to be in speech for longer he's made great improvements thanks to Teresa, a tongue tie procedure last year and starting orthodontics on the earlier side with Dr. Boyd (a dentist located in the city who specializes in airways). Teresa herself makes therapy fun for my son and he's always happy to go. He's been doing this a long time now so I appreciate that she finds ways to make it fun so that he doesn't get too sick of it. She's also been very helpful when it comes to speaking with Dr. Boyd, our ENT, and the speech therapists at his school. In fact, the therapists at school were so wow'd with Teresa that they even brought her in at one point to do a training for them. The only negative is that Teresa does not take insurance, although from my own research I found it difficult to find a speech therapist who specializes in myofunctional therapy that does take insurance. We did find someone many years ago, but she wasn't nearly as good as Teresa so this is money well spent. I do submit my bills to insurance every week and a little bit is covered each time. I do hope we get thru his treatment soon between the high therapy bills every month + time spent, but I do know that Teresa takes great care of him and has his best interest at heart.

UPDATE: We decided it was in my grandmas best interest to…read morestart In home hospice care. We found these soars on her neck from being neglected for over a month. My grandma suffered a stroke in October, survived many complications and is now at this nursing home. Due to the COVID-19, on March 11th they restricted all visitations for the safety of their patients (understandable). It has now been over a month since she has seen anyone in our family. Thursday afternoon, we received a heartbreaking call informing us that she hadn't been responsive in days, her vitals are low and we should say our final goodbyes.. could be a couple hours or days. As we all rushed over there, they refused to let us in to see her. Today, we gave the receptionist an iPad and asked that she'd set it up in my grandmas room. The iPad is set to automatically pick up FaceTime calls. Can't see her in person, at least we can see her, talk to her and let her know how much we love her through FaceTime. Hours later, in the middle of a FaceTime, one of the nurses comes into my grandmas room hangs up and closes the IPad case. Now we really can't see my grandma and she can't see us. We call, asked that it would be put back up and they refused. Said it was just temporary. We asked, are the residents not allowed to use cell phones? All other hospitals and nursing homes are allowing family members to call their loved ones. In fact, it is encouraged by primary care physicians!! The nurse, said oh they are allowed cell phones. But you cannot record her or our nurses. We explained that it is set like a phone, please this is all we have. She said, this is our policy you can call the director on Monday and then hangs up in our face. It is Easter, my grandma's favorite holiday, she is not promised an hour let alone until Monday. You must have no heart at all to strip away our rights and my grandmas rights at her last final stages of life. This has taken a toll on our entire family. This is an awful place. With some, not all, but some of the most heartless people working there. If you love your family members, do not bring them here.

Never should a therapist ask if we're getting help elsewhere during our sessions and not tell us what we can do as parents to help our child.. just random notes in the computer portal In a week if we're lucky. Since his evaluation, my son has had 3 different therapists, which no one at the practice informed me of until the day of. It was not communicated who would be his ongoing therapist at any point. I had to ask multiple times who his therapist was. After only a few weeks, his therapist went on medical leave for a month (she is still not back), and there was no one for my son to work with while she was gone. You would think an occupational therapy practice would do the bare minimum and assign someone else to work with their child clients while their therapist was gone. I am a therapist myself and cannot believe how unprofessional they are. So disappointed and angry at how my son has been treated there. Do NOT send your child here.
