I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

The owner KB bragged that his loads are always, "stacked high and tight!" I provided rope, tie downs, plastic wrap and blankets none of which he or his employee used. The 26 foot ABF trailer I rented has bars on both sides, every two feet to secure the load and he was obviously too lazy to utilize. When opening the trailer in Florida the entire load had shifted, every piece of furniture was scratched and/or broken, multiple boxes were overturned, and it took 5 hours to safely unload the trailer. The movers on this end said they had NEVER seen such a poorly packed trailer. I have contacted K&A Movers multiple times, sent photos of just some of my damaged goods and KB has refused to return my calls. So, after nearly a month of silence from this company, I have decided to involve MD consumer affairs and today am filing a complaint with the Maryland State Attorney General.

Clearly they have been in the business for a while, because the truck was loaded so intricately and with a lot of care. We had two stops - the first to drop off stuff to the house and the next to the storage unit. With both stops - I was really impressed with the professionalism. All in all, my husband and I both agree that they were excellent value for money; and I really felt peace of mind throughout the moving process! Beds, sectionals, and other furniture that had to be broken down, was broken down by the movers and reassembled at the new location. Some things I didn't know could be broken down were also broken down and reassembled. Attentive and made sure furniture and items were placed where they belonged and oriented the way we wanted it...even if the wife was wrong about it the first time, they did not hesitate to get it the right way. These guys know what they're doing. Good bang for the buck. My mother in law has also locked them down for her move into our old place and she's pretty hard to win over. No follow-up from him - he didn't contact me to check on how things went. When I told him about the theft, his response was basically "that's terrible - let me know if I can do anything". Yes, Mr. Petra, you can reimburse me for having to purchase a new vehicle, and you can vette your employees to ensure that you aren't hiring criminals! Petra Moving Company should not be in business. What followed was nothing short of a nightmare. He overestimated and under-delivered, then had the audacity to pad the final bill with hidden charges, mystery fuel costs, and a travel fee that was never once mentioned beforehand. When I asked for proof of these fees, he couldn't provide a single receipt. Instead, he became defensive, condescending, and downright nasty. The arrogance was unbelievable. While we were trying to settle the outrageous bill, he actually sent selfies of himself -- yes, selfies -- in the middle of a financial dispute, as if that somehow made him look credible. I've dealt with unprofessional people before, but this was on another level. He also made inappropriate comments about items we "might not need," which left me uneasy about what his real intentions were. And when I pushed back, he turned threatening and belligerent, refusing to take any accountability for his inflated prices or broken promises. This man is the walking definition of false confidence and zero integrity. Don't let his friendly tone in the beginning fool you -- it's all an act. Once he has your deposit, the professionalism evaporates. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the regret. Do not hire this mover. I had one issue with the frankly crappy reassembly of my captain's bed. When the movers left, the bed was bowed, drawers would not close completely and the slats were falling out or not fitting in at all. I reported the problem to Serena and it was corrected promptly. A crew came and reassembled the bed to eliminate the problems. Finally, Serena is the best. She is responsive, knowledgeable, friendly and very easy to work with.
