My pre-teen daughter has been attending Innovative Martial Arts for just over a year now, and I'm…read moreso grateful we found this school. Her first experience in martial arts was when she was two years old; she attended Primetime Martial Arts in San Jose. We loved the close-knit family atmosphere there, and we wanted that for her again when we moved back to Roseville when she was four. Once businesses began to open again after the Covid shutdown, we signed her up for a trial at Kovar's. I'm sure it has its benefits, but it wasn't a good fit for us. It felt too commercial with the instructors wearing microphones to project their voices. The atmosphere was just too business-like and not a warm and welcoming environment. Later we tried a BJJ studio in Rocklin on the recommendation of an acquaintance. I don't remember the name of the school, and it did have a better overall feel than Kovar's, but it still wasn't quite right for us. I don't remember any overt negatives about it; I just knew after the first visit that it wasn't what we were looking for, and my daughter immediately expressed the same as we left. After a fair amount of searching online, I found Innovated Martial Arts in Rocklin. We signed up my daughter for a trial, and she decided very quickly that it was the right fit for her. Mr. Nunneley has a great team of instructors; though, I have to say both he and Mr. Watson are truly excellent. They bring to class a sense of calm and are diligent in providing guidance to the students and correcting their form when appropriate; I very much appreciate that. My daughter is naturally shy and quiet, but Innovative MA has been a comfortable place for her to be vulnerable and learn since the beginning. Over the last year, she has noticeably grown more confident and self-assured, and I attribute much of this to what she's learned at Innovative MA. She's since progressed to greenbelt and sees herself staying with Innovative MA at least until she moves away for college in the future. I strongly recommend Innovative Martial Arts to anyone in search of a martial arts school for their child, and I sing their praises to all of my friends and family. Thank you, Mr. Nunneley, Mr. Watson, and the entire Innovative team for all that you've done and continue to do to teach my little girl!

It's been two months now, hes become more respectful and patient at home, his confidence is through the roof and honestly it's one of the better choices we've made. So happy with this school and how they treat all the students

We're regulars at the 5:30 AM Zombie Class -- yes, it's early, but 100% worth it! The atmosphere here is welcoming, supportive, and full of positive energy. Everyone we've trained with has been incredibly patient, caring, and fun to roll with. The instructors are fantastic across the board -- Keith goes above and beyond, dedicating a ton of his personal time to help us grow. David is calm, patient, and excellent at breaking things down, and I've really appreciated Alex's wisdom and thoughtful insights as well. Whether you're a complete beginner or experienced practitioner, this is one of the best jiu-jitsu studios in town. I highly recommend dropping in and becoming part of the Infinite family!

However, the details of instruction and the friendliness of everyone at Infinite, from the owner to beginners, is unmatched. Gustavo (owner/instructor) continues to compete and master his own craft while stressing the importance of technique over brute force to students. I appreciate this approach as an older practitioner, especially after training overseas at an MMA gym which had the opposite mentality. Gustavo is also supportive of kids and adults who want to compete and does his best to be mat-side with them at tournaments. Regarding the kids classes, I also appreciate the few minutes he spends a with them at the beginning of class talking about their day and trying to connect BJJ lessons to proper behavior off the mat.

If you are looking for a place that goes beyond just physical techniques, this is it. Kovar's focuses heavily on building character and self-discipline. Over the past year, we've seen a massive boost in our child's confidence, which has translated into how they carry themselves outside of the dojo. One of the most valuable aspects of the program is the emphasis on anti-bullying. The instructors don't just teach kids how to protect themselves; they teach them the importance of standing up for others and de-escalating situations with integrity. The teachers are phenomenal--they are patient, encouraging, and truly know how to engage with younger children to keep them focused while having fun. We are so grateful to be part of this community and highly recommend Kovar's to any parent looking to empower their kids!

I was a bit apprehensive as the last time I had trained Judo was in college, almost 30 years prior. I was concerned about my age, my ability to stay healthy, and whether or not I would be the only "old guy" in the dojo. Needless to say, my concerns were quickly alleviated after my first week of training. Coach Shane has created a unique environment that is conducive to learning the arts of Judo and Jiu-jitsu for all ages and all athletic abilities. He has truly created a family of practitioners of all different ranks, athletic abilities, backgrounds, and ages. The centerpiece of Shane's dojo is a high performance club for youths. The professionalism, guidance, and care that Coach Shane provides kids of all ages is astounding. Integrated around this circle is a mixture of adult students from a multitude of backgrounds; active professionals in law enforcement, fire service leadership, doctors, teachers, counselors, tradesman, entrepreneurs, pilots, military contractors, office managers, canine trainers, corporate executives, dojo owners, and college students, to name a few. Rocklin Judo is truly a wonderful family. Coach Shane has also assembled an impeccable staff of black belts that add additional context and attention to the curriculum. At any one time, there would be at least three black belts in attendance - providing focused and personalized instruction during each and every class. I have never practiced at a dojo before where there was this high a number of expert to student ratio. If you are a parent looking to build a strong, confident, and independent child - get them involved with Rocklin Judo. If you are an active professional looking to improve your skill set - get involved with Rocklin Judo. Finally, if you have any interest (regardless of age or athletic ability) of both the tremendous psychological and physical advantages that practicing a martial art can give you - get involved with Rocklin Judo.
