I've been searching on and off for the perfect yoga studio: one with early morning and after-work…read moreclasses, a variety of classes, clean bathrooms with showers, and reasonable prices. You'd think with all the fitness centers and yoga studios out there, that it wouldn't be hard to find something that fit that criteria for me. Unfortunately, it is. Then I heard about CorePower. I actually heard about CorePower a couple years ago from a friend in Colorado, but there were no studios near me. In the past few year, I've noticed more CorePower studios opening up into the suburbs of Chicago. Finally, last fall, I signed up here for the trial week of free yoga. The first class I took was lovely. The heat was turned up (kind of unexpected -- it wasn't a heated class), the lights were dim, the studio was small, and I left feeling wonderful. I didn't like, however, how the instructor spent most of her time talking & walking around instead of participating in the full workout with us. I guess that's a matter of personal preference, though. She did stop to show us certain poses or to correct us if we needed to fix ours. The class ended with a lavender-soaked cool towel across the forehead. It was so nice. The next few classes I took by different instructors were all very similar. I would have liked a little more variety. Routine is nice, but so is change. Then again, you can only experience so much in a week... This CorePower location is great: clean showers, clean locker rooms (bring your own lock), and a nice little area in the front to sit and relax or buy some [expensive] yoga clothes and accessories. This location also has its' own parking lot (with three-hour free parking) which is a plus in downtown Elmhurst. At least I know I won't have to worry about parking whenever I'm here. As much as I wanted to, I didn't sign up for the membership. Although $100-120 a month (I cannot recall the exact amount) is very good for a yoga studio, it just wasn't in my budget. Maybe some day....

Wall Climbing - Came here with a Groupon to try out their wall climbing (valid Tuesdays or…read moreThursdays). I signed in at the front desk and the receptionist escorted me to the wall climbing area since it was a little tricky to find. You have to go down a couple of hallways, down the stairs and look for an inconspicuous door. When you are upstairs, there's a glass window that lets you look down into the wall climbing area. First off, this is not the most sophisticated climbing facility, but it's decent for what it is. It's like the diner of climbing walls rather than a 4-star restaurant. Once we arrived in the climbing room it was smaller than I imagined, but still accommodates about 8 climbers comfortably. There was one child climbing while her family of 4 sat against the wall and watched. The wall is not that tall, only about 2 stories high (20 ft). There's a couple of private bathrooms near the climbing area that you can use to change clothes. I had a backpack with me, which I felt safe leaving on the floor against the wall since I can see it while I climb. The couple of teenagers working the room were nice and friendly. They will provide you with a hardness and shoes if needed, then they become your belayer as you climb the wall. Pricing is not bad. Equipment is included in the price: Members $8 and Non-members $12. Wall Hours: Climbing Wall Hours (August 20 - May 31) Tuesday 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Thursday 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Climbing Wall Hours (June 1 - August 20, 2013) Tuesday 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Thursday 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. I enjoyed it because it was a fun workout. The location isn't that great for me since I had to fight traffic and it took me almost an hour. Location: Very easy to find and see from the streets. The entrance is located at a stop sign on S. West Ave.
