This past August, I got a chance to watch the Mets take on the home-team Red Wings as part of a corporate event. The schedule gods were friendly so I could root for my hometown team as a visitor to this pretty ballpark. Innovative Field is nestled in downtown Rochester and has a cool backdrop of some of the city's buildings. I really liked that the park is part of their downtown's identity as Syracuse's is not. Parking was nearby and fairly easy to find. Their gift shop is expansive and had lots of fun items to take home including their alternate jerseys (the garbage plates) and some of the diversity night jerseys and hats. I browsed but didn't buy. Food is pretty standard fare though they have a cool pub style area to get a beer and it has tv's to watch the action while you're enjoying a drink. For some reason, the hot dog buns are like a italian sub roll and engulf the dog - too heavy for a bun and too bready. Not sure what local place they are supporting, but this was my only complaint about their food. As with any park, your mileage may vary with the sunshine/sunset depending on which side you sit on. We sat in an outfield area near the scoreboards and it was pretty brutal :) Overall, a great place to watch a ballgame. I've been to better, but this one is a gem for Rochester-area baseball fans.

It was the first time I had been to this rink since it had been rebranded. I was more than disappointed. I was appalled by the lack of security on the ice while we were skating. Some kids were bombing around at high speeds, skating in and around beginners like they were on an obstacle course. Some kids, probably 12 year olds, were using red skating helpers like toys, bashing into each other, or two boys giving a third boy a ride and skating at top speed. One dad was horsing around with his kids, adding to the mayhem.We had to keep looking out for reckless skaters and defending ourselves, stopping or turning quickly to avoid getting slammed into. The security guys stopped some boys once to keep them from using the skating helpers as bumper cars, but that's the only time i saw them do anything. The whole place was staffed with kids. I saw some little kids playing in an information booth, throwing papers around with no supervision. It's too bad parents don't keep an eye on their kids, but the facility should have more supervision and send the message that reckless behavior is not okay.

My nephew is a big fan and was so excited to hear that two running backs were signing autographs at the tent. We got there early because they cut of the number for signatures. Only kids 14 and under are allowed to get autographs, separate line for parents to take pictures. He was on cloud 9 meeting Devin Singletary and Zack moss. They were both so great with the kids,

Do you like being stepped on while trying to get the signatures of the Buffalo Bills and hobbling to the bus? If so you'll love this! This place is awful. Even if you enjoy sports and the Bills you will be very bored. If you want to get something signed be willing to fight your way to the front of a barricade and risk injury. And if your over the age of 21 don't expect to get anything signed even if you are up front as some players will only sign kids items. The stuff out front was fun especially the air brush makeup. I just can't recommend this place to anyone even massive Bills fans.

Ticket shenanigans aside, the event featured non-local companies for the most part. The closest local joint was Fairport Brewing which was winning for me with their Oh-Pa, oatmeal pale ale. Among the recognizable non-locals were Stone Brewing, Stillwater, Evil Twin, Sierra Nevada and Saranac. Some of the beer was going skunky! I hope they find a way to prevent this for future fests. I was very surprised to see Merrits Estate pouring and selling these flashing mugs of their famous and delishiz sangria slushies! They also were offering a wine slushie calle XTC...it was utterly sweet. Stick with the sangria if you are an in-betweener like me. ANOTHER suggestion is to please sell all inclusive tickets that allow guests to also attend the Wine About Winter tasting event.

And what hole did they dig Grant Anderson the on field "talent" from? I thought he was a fill in, but apparently that's his actual job. It feels like much of the staff there are related or have been there far too long. Seems like the type of place you only fall up. Once again the whole place feels old and out of touch. Might be time for a lot of changes. Don't really see the young people coming out to games much.

I was here on a Friday night, and it really was not crowded. Even when the movie started, it still did not get crowded. They had a few variations that were vegetarian, and they were 3 for $5, which I thought was a good price. They had other pricing options if you wanted more, too. I got two of the mac and cheese ones, and one risotto one. All of them were good. This is not a good place to come from drinks. There were PBR's on special for $2.50 for happy hour, so that was pretty good if you like them. They were $5 regularly, Blue Toad hard cider was $7, and the wines they had were $12. I thought these were some pretty steep prices. They did take credit cards at this booth though, but it was a bit slow to process. If you come, be sure to bring cash because a lot of them were cash only. Also, I didn't use it myself, but there is a pretty nice non porta potty type bathroom. It has lights and sink, so you don't have to be worried about using a typical porta potty that I avoid all costs.

This festival have everything: beer, beer, beer, and more beer! Just kidding - there's also cider and food and music and sponsors and all kinds of fun to be had. I've been there on crazy hot evenings and it is the best summer vibe you can find in the city. The brewery scene in Rochester is super special and I love getting a look at what each biz brings to sling at this festival, and be a spectator to the camaraderie amongst brewers. I would personally opt for the VIP ticket, but honestly it seems like everyone goes that route nowadays given the popularity of the festival. I can't wait for this amazing festival to come back to us in its full glory in 2021!
