When I moved to Nashville, I left the close Christian community I had spent my life waiting to find. I felt alone in a new place, without anyone who knew the me I had become since falling for Jesus. I had reverted back to my old addictions and patterns to numb myself, and felt that without my community of believers around me, maybe I Christ had forgotten me. I feared what would happen if I went too long in this new place without reaching for a life raft. So one Friday night, in the YMCA parking lot, I sat in my car and knew I needed to do something. I knew I needed to invite Him in in an intentional way to protect me, to show me, to reveal to me this missing piece I was aching for. I called Rock House and sat there crying in my car as the receptionist asked me my story. Asked me why now. Asked me why Jesus. She was kind and genuine and warm, and at the end of all my broken words, she asked to pray with me. And the prayer was just for me. It was so personal and gracious and brimming with Truth; I knew this place was different. And that The Lord would allow my finances to make room for this journey I needed to take. And He kept providing. He provided the finances each week and He provided Holly, with her warmth and joy that spilled over into me. She greeted me each time with the most affectionate smile, knowing what I was there to learn: that no darkness I've felt or addiction I slip into or sins I've indulged in are too big or too dark or too messy to be healed by The Father. Each week, we shared personal stories from the past and updates from the present, but always spent the bulk of our sessions in The Truth, leaning more on what God says than how the world affected me. And by letting the focus be on Him and His promises, His truth of me, I began to notice changes in my heart. My heart was softening towards people who hurt me, people I needed to forgive. My heart was strengthening in what He says of me, becoming less malleable by the world and its harshness. And in the wake of all these heart changes, my relationships experienced a mending I didn't think possible. Despite my past hurts, I enjoyed my parents. I reveled in my time with them, thanking God He would choose them for me to keep. I became bolder in my convictions, allowing my friends and coworkers to see the me who is empowered by Christ, not by my own strength. I let soak in the sheer miracle of my sister- that The Father had given me a built in best friend, a spiritual mentor, someone who knows the deepest parts of me. That all this time, I've had the sweetest life raft. Now having completed the program, I cannot express (even though I have tried with this lengthy post), the ways my life has changed. The richness of my joy. The incredible connection I feel to my family. The strength I have in my bones. The comfort of knowing that I have always been known and I have never been abandoned. That Christ is powerful and personal enough to give me all these changes in the midst of our broken world. That in the wake of my loneliness, He gave me Holly. And I know I will be grateful for her and love her always. And as I sit here, in my new story, I know my heart will never be the same. I know The Father sees me and always keeps a place for me. No matter how dark the chapters get, He is never done with me. There is always, always, always more. Thank you, Lord. I needed to write this today. read more

Just to give you a little background, I am currently 31. I was an atheist until I was 26 years old. I found Jesus and was healed of bipolar disorder and chronic GERD. I have seen a secular therapist since I was 10 years old, starting with family therapy and then moving on to individual therapy by the time I was 12. I never felt it really "worked". They just helped me treat some symptoms or maintain, but didn't do a great job, because I still found myself in psychiatric facilities in-patient hospital stays in my early 20's. I like to think of it like this: I would come into therapy with a stack of full suitcases, all stacked one on top of another. They were full of all my previous hurts, wrongs, wounds, etc. When I would talk to any of my therapists, we would start unpacking the top one, which was the most recent one [the ones further down were older the closer to the floor you got, with the one at the bottom being from my early childhood]. We might get one or even two full suitcases unpacked by the end of the session. But then when I came back the next week, the empty ones would be full again, so we could never get to the core issues & we could never unpack "enough" or the "right ones". At RHC, there is some time spent on those top suitcases, but even that is spent in light of the foundational issues that are causing those full suitcases, no matter where they are: top, middle, or bottom. Even though I was healed of bipolar disorder in 2016, there was still something "not right". It's very hard to put into words; there was a literal battle going on in my mind. It was so utterly debilitating & I felt truly hopeless. I felt like there was no escape and it was always going to be that way. Through RHC I was able to heal from a lot of deep spiritual, emotional, and mental wounds, especially from my childhood, where I not only didn't get my divine needs met, I sometimes did not get my physical needs met. The song by Tasha Layton describes it really well (& I hope she doesn't mind me using her lyrics!): "The lies I believed They got some roots that run deep I let 'em take a hold of my life I let 'em take control of my life Standing in Your presence, Lord I can feel You diggin' all the roots up I feel Ya healin' all my wounds up All I can say is, 'Hallelujah' Look what You've done, look what You've done in me You spoke Your truth into the lies I let my heart believe Look at me now, look how You made me new The enemy did everything that he could do Oh, but look what You've done Suddenly all the shame is gone I thought I was too broken, now I see You were breaking new ground inside of me" I am just so thankful that I get an umpteenth new chance at a life that God has planned for me! I have felt very prompted to lead someone else through the workbook, along with [already] highly suggesting all the services RHC provides! I had such an incredible experience at Rock House Center! I committed to their 16 week counseling program when my ex-husband (husband at the time) was having an affair and our marriage was falling apart. My counselor Michelle Stamper was an absolute God-send. I truly don't know that I would have been able to walk through, process through, or heal from my marriage and divorce in the way that I did had I not had my sessions with Michelle. Every single session felt so incredibly timely and was such a vital part of my healing. Each session was 2 hours which allowed me to talk about and get out everything that I needed to. My counselor was also led by the Holy Spirit and asked me pin-pointing questions as I shared my feelings that honestly helped me to reject and disassociate from any lies of the devil and to stay grounded in the truth of what God thought and said about me as I walked through everything with my ex-husband and the way he was treating me at the time. We also intentionally prayed out loud at the end of each session and that felt so vital to helping me actively forgive my ex-husband in the ways that I needed to. Not even a year after finishing this counseling program, I have completely forgiven my ex-husband (don't have any harsh feelings towards him whatsoever), have fully processed through and healed drastically from everything that happened, and am thriving and moving forward with my life! I truly walked out of that season of my life unbroken and unscarred by it in many ways because of my relationship with God and because of my counseling session with Rock House Center. There are not enough descriptive words in our vocabulary to describe the experience I had through Rock House Center. I started seeing Patti as my counselor in January of 2023. The timing of this was divine. After a season of feeling complete isolation in my life and following a family member's suicide attempt, I started my sessions. Week by week, the Spirit guided me back to our Father's loving embrace. To me, Rock House seems like the cheat code to living this life on earth. The biblical tools presented in Rock House effectively opened my broken soul so I could heal from my traumas and brokenness. Our Heavenly Father loves me so much, and cares for me enough to give me this invaluable resource through this season in my life. Fears, anxieties, worries, and anger have dissipated in my life and I can now focus on my number one priority, and that is to please Him. I am a better wife, mother, and person because I can say with absolute confidence where I find my value and worth, and that is through Christ alone. Other's who surround me can clearly see the heart change. One of the first people to see the change was my husband. I was experiencing peace that surpassed worldly understanding so he too decided to start Rock House. His life has completely shifted as well and he isn't even done yet. I was so grateful to find Rock House center upon my arrival to Tennessee. I can honestly say that I was in a very desperate place. I had move here alone, was navigating through everyday life, and dealing with many transitions. That being enough, I also had a lot of hurt that I thought was dealt with, but I quickly realized that was not the case, and I sought out counseling. When comparing various programs, I really liked that this was a 16 week program, and that there was an end in sight- rather than feeling like counseling would be a crutch with an unknown end. I don't see this as talk therapy. We didn't try and figure out every inch of my life, or confusion. We went straight to the word, talking about truths and lies in my life. This has been true Biblical Counseling- with teaching during the session, and biblical strategies that your counselor guides you through each time. I came in with the attitude that I couldn't be helped, I'd tried various things before to help with my overall wellness and I was quite angry, resentful, and feeling hopeless. I sobbed the first session as we prayed together, and already felt a sense of release. Seeing how much I've improved is due to how God has used this program and my counselor Holly. I do not feel co-dependent on my counselor, I feel like I was more empowered to rely on God like he wants us to. I wholeheartedly believe in investing in your mental well-being and it really does start with your spiritual well-being. If your worried about money, I was too. I began with Rock House during a low season in my life, filled with anxiety and depression. The year prior, I had worked too hard and was exhausted and depleted, to the point I could not find healing. I had began counseling with an organization that specialized in anxiety and depression, but while the sessions have me a good understanding of what I was dealing with, their approach to healing was clinical, not spiritual. At that point, a good friend pointed me to Rock House. I was that client who wasn't willing to commit to their 16 week textbook curriculum, so they met me where I was at and we did "free style" sessions. After five free style sessions, I submitted to their course and have complete gratitude for John Shaw and Rock House. I had identified many of the lies that society had embedded in me that brought doubt and confusion, but could not figure out how to move forward. Rock House helped me identify even more lies, but their solutions was to replace these lies with the truth - the truth that can only be found in God's Word. The Rock House is a place where God truly did life changing work in my heart. I was very skeptical when I first started because it sounded too good to be true. I came in a season where anxiety was consuming my life and I felt very lost. After seeing what God had done in my heart in the 16 weeks I was at the Rock House, there is no other glory that can be given, but to God. The prayerful approach they take is not like anything I've very experienced before. Week after week I watched God transform my heart through this prayerful approach. I cannot say enough wonderful things about my counselor Wendy. She was so personable and relatable and the least judge mental person I have ever encountered. After I started attending, my husband began going as well. I can say that I have not only seen God transform my heart, but I'm in awe of how He's working in my husband's heart and our marriage. I cannot recommend the Rock House Center enough to my family and loved ones. If you are on the fence about doing the first session, please do it. I can't begin to describe how incredible this program is and all that God did for me through the course of my 16 weeks with them!! They are proof that God still works miracles today in 2022. If you are like me and tried everything else and find yourself at the end of your rope, CALL THEM! I remember being 1/2 way through the program and looking at my counselor Holly and asking 'Have you ever had anyone get all the way through the program and not be changed? Because if not, pretty sure I'll be the first.' She smiled, spoke some words of encouragement and said 'Just stick with me, God is working.' A couple of weeks later I experienced a major paradigm shift and I realized my heart and mind were just different. It's hard to put into words, but the process they have created, with God's help, did more in 6 months than a lifetime of being in and out of other counseling programs. My time at Rockhouse was nothing short of extraordinary. In short, Jesus revealed who He was to me as a person- the man who died for me and who is my Savior. I received counsel from the Holy Spirit during my sessions that addressed specific stumbling blocks in my faith, due to my own unbelief and ignorance. I can say today that the truth written by Isaiah has been realized in my own life: "But I will reveal my name to my people, and they will come to know its power. Then at last they will recognize that I am the one who speaks to them" Isaiah 52:6. Now I know that God is real, He really is there for me, He loves me personally and there is no going back to a life apart from Him. I cannot begin to fully explain how much Rock House Center has changed my life. Before Rock House, I felt fearful of and disconnected from God. I was lacking in faith and honestly, riddled with doubt. My hope was at an all-time low and I was struggling with anxiety, panic, fear, and depression to the extreme. BUT GOD! I have been in and out of counseling the last 35 years with different hard and heavy life struggles and literally had given up on the modern day phycological approach. The Rock House Center MTT approach is life altering, life sustaining, and Christ centered. Holly B is wonderful to work with, although it never really feels like work! I have more confidence, more peace, and more joy than I ever expected to be palpable in my life. My husband and I were blessed to have Angela Hooper as our counselor from the Rock House Center. I never felt judged when explaining different scenarios of struggles we were having as parents( we have 3 daughters ages 7,12, & 14). It was a completely different approach than conventional counseling. Rock House is such a gift. I recently completed the 16 week motive transition therapy module and am happy to report that I saw significant improvement in my emotional condition, connection with God, and health of relationships. I have experienced seasonal depression every winter for the last 10 years and have worked very hard to manage it. Going through the program at Rock House Center was one of the best, life-changing, decisions I have ever made. I have been a Christian since 1981 and I never heard biblical principles the way that Rock House taught me. I was in a desperate place mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
