Remember the reunion scenes in Grosse Pointe Blank with the cool 80s music and dancing in the gymnasium? I hated high school, but I love that movie. I made several trips to Rock 'n Roll Land to look for 45s last summer because I cooked up a scheme in my head where I was going to attend my 30th reunion and spin records as the DJ. I was an outcast kid back in high school, painfully shy and unable to approach girls. But now I was going to return as a cool adult, and blow everyone away as the music-savvy DJ spinning all the sounds from our youth, keeping the vibe going all night, taking requests from my vast catalogue of vinyl. All the girls who rejected me 30 years ago will see what a cool guy I really am and now they'll regret that they wouldn't go on dates with me. So I'm combing through the 45s (and trust me, there is a sh*tload there), looking for ones to play at the reunion, and those of you who collect 45s will understand what it's like when you're "in the zone." Time distorts and your peripheral vision constricts to a pin point. The outside world falls away as the records hooked to your thumb go flip...flip...flip...flip...flip. It can be an almost meditative process in a way. Within the span of one second, your brain processes a round of questions for each record you flip: Do I already have this one? Is it in better shape than the one I have? Could I use this for a __-themed party? Wow, this is rare one for sure, but would I ever play it? Honestly, would I ever play it or would it just take up more space? Does it have novelty value only to me? Do I have a friend who'd appreciate it more than me and should I snatch it up for him? So I'm doing this for god knows how long. Hours maybe. Because the owners are so nice, they didn't tell me that my record browsing had kept them there way past closing time. They had turned off the music, dimmed the lights, and stood by door for almost 40 minutes, and I hadn't even noticed. That's how "in the zone" I was. What other shop owners would do that for a customer? Seriously, who does that? Apart from having a ton of continually rotating stock of albums and music merchandise, they're really good to their customers. So how was my 30th reunion, you might ask? For a new and used record store you'd think they'd buy a wide variety of collections, but it's seems the buyers/owners are interested in only very obscure or multiples of the same hit records. Same issue with the new vinyl selections - a ton of obscurities and a new well known artist thrown in there so they can make a few bucks. Good luck trying to search the 45s and 12" singles. I suppose it's their store and they can put up whatever they want for sale. There are places in Rhinelander and the Fox Valley that have much better selections from punk to 40s to 2020s with all genres. There's a weird vibe in GB of music store employees having a music snob air about them. No one wants to hear what wisdom they have to impart to a purchasing customer about the band or piece they're buying, especially trying to one up the customer. Be happy you're providing the public what they want versus being downtrodden on what people buy. Not impressed. That said, I enjoyed the browsing and the small selection of older music mags and pseudo vintage shirts. The older equipment was a nice addition too. They're a 2.5 but selected 3, because they're local and I want to support any vintage/retro/recycle shop. read more

Awesome used/new record store, including some stereo gear. As I others have said, when you are in the zone searching for vinyl you can hang out a while. You feel very welcomed here. Owner is a nice guy who knows his craft, he buys used records too. This place has been my go to for vinyl since I started collecting. I promise you will enjoy Rock n Roll land....and yes, they have country, jazz, rap, etc too! read more

Sticky wicket here. The store has a friendly owner and lotsa records. If you're a casual record buyer seeking a new press of "Revolver" or "Lemonade", this store can accommodate you. If you are a more intense record collector, avoid. Maddeningly, records are filed under first letters. Billy Idol is under 'B'. Nick Drake is under 'N'. Other than Ozzy Osborne, this is an incredible headache. And if you like 45s, hoo boy! Boxes and boxes of them; multiple copies of also-ran artists, some sorted in the same ridiculous fashion, some unsorted. None of a rarer quality tweezed out into a high end box. This place is my new mecca. Seriously, we walked in and my jaw dropped. They had a 10" Social D skelly mounted on the wall. It was made of metal (done by a metal worker) and the detail on it was amazing. I knew right away my husband had to have it. It's now mounted on the wall in our garage, and it looks fantastic. OK, so Social D aside : Located in a quiet and unassuming strip mall, we had to drive past it first before we found it. Just by looking at the cool stickers on the door, I knew it was going to be all sorts of awesome. A quick glance around the store made me realize we were going to be there for a while, and we were in it for the long haul. They have an EXTENSIVE record area. New, mostly used, but all AWESOME. I walked away with an out of print LP : "Hank Williams The Roy Orbison Way." Seriously! These dudes are hardcore collectors, in the most awesome way imaginable. We talked with the owners for a little bit. Aside from being really nice guys, they told us their story - they used to book the shows at Oneida. They are huge music fans themselves! This store offers some used CD's, but also has a back area with a stage (up and coming acts come in to do shows, they have local bands play, etc). They do sell some guitars and amps. Between and/or after moving away from home and getting into your first apartment you should make sure to visit Rock N Roll Land for several hours a month. There's no place better to hone your ear. With various wall-to-wall records, one of a kind live performances, and two friendly musically unbiased encyclopedic greasers who'll not only advise you into your new favorite bands but probably personally know some of your favorite artists; Rock N Roll Land delivers a rare atmosphere. Finally, somewhere that's not all about the mighty dollar, and it shows through their energetic regulars, free all-ages shows, and care-free music-loving attitude. I've spent entire days here just talking about bands and listening to records and have never felt as welcome anywhere else. Plus, when it comes to dumping a hundred dollars on vinyl, it's an unbelievably good feeling to know where/ how/ and who your money's helping. Come to Rock N Roll Land! Spend an afternoon here, an hour, few days, casually flip through some vinyl, and let it become one of the best music experiences of your life! Mostly vinyl collection, which was very organized and interesting. Lot's of rock, and country, didn't find what I was looking for (which is Italian pop and film music) but I know this is not greatly sought after. Great display of framed, and often autographed promo pictures of many old, new and local bands. Owner was friendly and you should go and support him! read more

Best record store in Wisconsin, hands down. New records used records, discount records, 45's, CD's, cassettes, memorabilia, swag, instuments, stereo gear, a lounge area to BS with other shoppers, stage and live music. How could it get any better? Oh yeah, if they don't have it, they'll order it, and at or less what you'd pay online. When I lived in the area, I was there a couple times a week. What a fantastic store. I didn't get the sales clerk's name that checked me out , but I have to tell you she gave me the best deal on my records than any other record store in the area.
