We stayed in the Black Bear Cabin, and it was everything we hoped for. The cabin's location was ideal: less than 10 minutes from the New River Gorge Bridge, tucked away at the end of a private gravel road, and surrounded by over an acre of rolling mountain meadow (which was ideal for tossing a football with my son). The cabin itself boasts a well-stocked kitchen with modern appliances, a 50" smart TV for our movie nights, a stackable washer and dryer, a wrap-around porch for coffee while watching the fog lift, and even a hot tub to soak away the day's adventures. The cabin had three comfortably furnished bedrooms, featuring a luxurious king in the master with an en suite bath, plus a queen and twin beds in the other rooms, the cabin comfortably accommodated our family. We also enjoyed the rustic charm of the gas fireplace and the modern yet cozy furniture throughout. When we encountered one maintenance issue, the service staff was very responsive and resolved it quickly, keeping our vacation uninterrupted. The cabin's central location made it easy to explore other local attractions like Pie's & Pints, the Escape-A-Torium, the Bridge Walk, and plenty of nearby hikes. We left with lasting memories and a promise to return soon. Country Road Cabins will definitely be our go-to spot on our next visit to the area!

One of the bathroom doors wouldn't lock. Also when someone is walking on the bridge the whole house shakes. Other than that it was a nice place to stay at for a couple of days!

This was a girl's weekend away and we wanted adventure, quiet and relaxation. That's exactly what we got. We stayed in a larger cabin, which was extremely clean and cozy. Lots of space (they sleep up to 8-10, I believe) and comfy beds. Functional kitchen with the basic cooking supplies, wraparound porch (upper level porch as well) and fire pit, bbq, etc. Gorgeous, peaceful grounds which Mark has worked hard to maintain, it definitely shows. For active folks, there are lots of places to hike, kayak, etc., within a 30-45 minute radius. There are some activity/tourist guides within the cabin as well. Fayetteville is nearby, which is an adorable little town with a few shops, movie theatre, coffee shop and brewery/pizza shop. I would love to visit in the fall as I can imagine the foliage is amazing. Highly recommend staying here and already looking forward to the next WV trip.

One day we did over 90 miles, of which 15 were on the road. Heard they now have a trail head that goes to Kentucky. If you like Windrock then it's worth looking here. We ride Florida, however it's great to enjoy all of America off road.

We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.

Anna was very welcoming and even baked us cookies as a welcome present. The cabin was spacious enough for us two, and the hot tub was the main attraction. We loved the fireplace, especially in 20-30 degree weather, sitting by the fireplace reading was our nightly routine. There are a lot of hikes and attractions nearby to do during the day, so no worries about getting bored. The cabin had all the utilities we could need, plenty of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and everything you could possibly need in the fully working kitchen. Overall we spent a very relaxing week and can't wait to come back when it's warmer!

We stayed at the Enchanted Cottage Friday 10/8/21 to Monday 10/11/21. The cottage itself has…read moretremendous charm. The decor is quite interesting, showing a lot of thought. I really enjoyed studying the paintings, hangings, and decor on higher areas. Horizontal surface area within reach was at a premium, as we had to move some of the decor to make room for our stuff: books, laptops, phones, etc. If you're visiting during colder months and love tending a real fire in the fireplace, be sure to contact the host ahead of time to ensure firewood, etc. is ready and waiting on arrival. The garden is beautiful and the couch on the porch is really comfy. I'd suggest bringing your own throw blankets if you like to curl up in front of the fireplace on the couch. The ones we brought were washable and soft, much more practical than the one decorating the couch. We like to know what we're wrapped in is freshly washed. There are no window coverings! The cottage is truly isolated and the only visitor we saw was a deer walking by the windows. I walked outside while my wife showered at night and found anyone can see in through the steamed up windows. But then again, you're surrounded by forest. The kitchen is small and cute. We brought stuff to warm up in the microwave so it was fine. The fridge was big enough to hold the food we brought for 3-4 days. Cooking a big meal would be a challenge. The WiFi is useless for anything but email. I measured the upload and download speeds by accessing a speed measuring website. The download speed was 200x slower and the upload speed was 800x slower than what I have at home. And I don't have the highest speed offered in my area at home. Dugspur is truly rural. You feel like you are deep in the heart of farms and ranches. In October it was very picturesque. On Sunday we went to IC DeHart Memorial Park to walk some of their trails. It was a 45 minute drive, but well worth it. It was the second week of October and most of the trail was covered with beautiful fall leaves. We took the yellow trail and walked the 3 miles in just under an hour. You want drive past the tennis courts to park by the picnic area, which has toilets with running water. They were out of toilet paper so come prepared. The trail meanders through beautiful woods, and ends back at the DeHart family graveyard. The tombstones tell their own history through several family generations. We talked to a local woman who takes her dog on walks there frequently. She said that the hot summer months are a completely different experience. In August her dog got stung by many hornets while walking the trails so her dog is no longer willing to walk those trails. Hiking in cool October was a great experience with no pests, so plan accordingly. On our way back we enjoyed some ice cream at the town of Floyd's general store. There was an outdoor concert of Latin music for anyone that wanted to sit and listen. It wasn't crowded and several families brought picnics. Instead of heading straight home to Northern VA on Monday, we made a slight detour to walk the High Bridge trail in Farmville, by the Appomattox River. There's a parking lot with restrooms one mile from the bridge. There's no need to go to the state park to park. If you don't want to walk, you can rent bikes in town. Lots of families were doing that. The historical markers explained the bridge's role at the end of the Civil War when Lee surrendered to Grant. The bridge is impressive. Looking down from the bridge was a bit unnerving for me as I don't enjoy heights. We walked the trail down to the river, under the bridge, and then back up the other side. It was a beautiful hike and seeing the old original bridge supports made me appreciate how much amazing engineering was done back in the 1800's. Because of the detour we took to Farmville, we were on back country roads all the way to Culpeper before we hit the divided highway there to take us the rest of the way back to NoVa. It was a beautiful drive on well-maintained two-lane roads and we made good time.

However, the folks running this place absolutely deserve a five star review (and I'm going to book our next stay well in advance!). We stayed in the pet-friendly cabin #5 which had two bedrooms, a full bath, full kitchen, indoor jacuzzi tub, fireplace, powerful heating unit, and a beautiful front porch with a swing overlooking a pasture and mountains. We drank our coffee here as we watched the sunrise each morning. The cabin interior had every amenity you could need- pots, plates, utensils, coffee maker, paper goods, fresh towels. The decor inside the cabin was so cute and cozy. The other cabins are spaced well apart for privacy and there is a common picnic area up on the hill with a large grill, fire pit, tables and chairs; the sunset views up here are beautiful. I mostly spoke with Sonya who was so kind and also cleaned the cabin before our arrival. Everything was sparkling clean and the fireplace was lit for our arrival. We couldn't be more pleased with our stay and we didn't want to leave. We can't wait to return with friends and family. During our stay, we hiked several spots along the parkway, but our favorite hike was over in Buffalo Mountain preserve (30 min from the cabin) for the most beautiful 360 degree view at the peak (be advised it was pretty strenuous and muddy with all the recent rain). And we also highly recommend Buffalo Mountain Brewing/McDaniels Tavern for a beer and a bite to eat after your hike.
