Most are not LGBTQ+ affirming but are what they call "welcoming." I thought this was one of those types of churches. My wife, kids, and I were recommended this church by one of our friends. She said it would be a good fit for us. At that same time, another mom of our kids' friends invited our kids to a movie night and told them to invite their parents to come along. It seemed great since more than one person had recommended this church to us, so we went with our kids. We attended the movie night and a couple of Sunday services, and our kids loved the youth group, so we wanted to give it a shot. Unfortunately, it turns out that the mom who invited our kids to the movie night did not know we were a gay family. We showed up and sat by her and her husband, and two days later our friend came over very upset. We asked what happened, and she said the couple that invited us to the movie night were deacons from the church and also her neighbors. They had realized at the movie night that we were a lesbian couple with kids, and they informed our friend that we were not welcome at the church and that we should not be attending. I got a call right after that from the church after filling out a visitor card, and I told the lady on the phone what happened. She said she works closely with the pastor (I forget her title,) and said that the pastor would want to speak to us about what had happened. I contacted her again when I did not hear anything back, and she told me she did tell the pastor about the incident, and that he would be calling us, but is very busy. .... I quickly realized it was a call that would never come, lol. We had to tell our kids that we needed to look elsewhere. I am happy to have found an affirming church that we love and are very involved with, but in case any other LGBTQ+ individuals, families, or allies are looking for a church in this area, I wanted you to know what happened. No matter what their beliefs are, I do not believe this is how Jesus would have wanted a family seeking a church to be treated by DEACONS in the church. I was the daughter of a mother who was known worldwide in the Christian world as a leader, speaker, and president of a Christian organization, and a father who was an elder, nationwide leader, and board member, so I was appalled at how church leadership handled this.

I have decided to visit this church awhile back and fell in love with the message given, diversity, great music, and the hospitality. You don't have to be a bible scholar to understand the delivery of Pastor Bell. He uses personal and current events to emphasize or make the message relate-able to everyone. Bible study is very interesting and fun! Covenant Blessing Fellowship (CBF) offers two bible study nights: Tuesday and Thursday (Singles). However, there are many more ministries CBF has to offer. If you looking for a medium size church that greets you to come as you are with opened arms, I recommend this church. By the way ... dress code is causal.

This is a traditional Latin mass Catholic Church. If you're a "cafeteria Catholic", meaning if…read moreyou're the type that wears shorts and T-shirts to mass, receive communion once in a while without previously going to confession and really don't think about the holiness of it, you pick and choose what you like/don't like about the Catholic religion, check your voicemail and text messages throughout mass, are left leaning in your political views even in the SLIGHTEST, etc.. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. Attending mass here is like stepping back into the 1940's. It is holy, divine, solemn and it's the way the mass is supposed to be. There is a strict dress code. If you don't know how to dress properly then look it up! The regular parishioners are EXTREMELY good natured, welcoming and VERY nice. It's a tight knit parish. Everyone hangs out afterwards and talks to each other and there's coffee and doughnuts! But if you attempt to not abide by the rules, be prepared to be confronted about it. STRAIGHT UP.. In other words, if you love tradition and are disgusted with the current state of Catholic Church and are looking for an escape from the post Vatican 2 status quo, want to worship Jesus FULLY, then this is the place for you!

I grew up in the church and never had a concept of God that was healthy. I had a God I could never…read morelive up to. An angry vision of a God that was disappointed in my futile attempts at being worthy which led to giving up entirely on attending a church. I am sure some who read this can relate. Fortunately, I had it all wrong. I am joyful to have been able to meet Pastor Micheal Abrum who had the ability to correct the misconceptions I had as a young person. Over time, Pastor Micheal explained what God really intended for me to know about a father who so desperately loves me and is faithful to me. I just show up to confess my failure as a son and God celebrates my return home and blesses my life and others through the response I have of gratitude to a God that I mean so much to. I was blessed to meet Pastor Micheal who took the time to help me. He shared with me real ways to improve communication with people in his counseling and further to give me the real healing we all desperately seek. The understanding of a greater desire to have a relationship with God and a purpose to love others in my life because it was how God loved me. Unconditionally and without cause. I am truly grateful for his witness to me and my family. As a response to his council and welcome from others in the church, my love for the people inside and outside of the church has grown and am blessed to be apart of the church family. I invite you to come and check out the great music at the contemporary service at 11am on Sunday led by Bob Bommarito and Kimberly Abrum and the heartfelt and relatable messages of God's love for us from Pastor Micheal. Ascension has grown to a place that lacks the judgment and stereotypes that churches have in the past turned so many people off to regularly attending. And I am blessed to call Ascension my church home. It is my hope that you and those you know and love find what I did there.
