There are also a couple of volleyball courts near a very large covered pavilion that would fit the family bbq or the the office crab feast. There is also a decently sized playground for the kids, although it isn't nearly as good as the playgrounds offered at Centennial and Meadow Brook. I can imagine parking could be a pain as the fields fill up but there is street parking available.

I turned around and walked 6 miles back to Avalon. Then walked 3 miles to the landing road starting point. It was 97 degrees. Brought 7 liters of water and about 30% of it was electrolytes. brought some snacks. overall it was a good solid hike of 6 hours. I rested a bit at cascade falls (CF) CF parking lot, Avalon (in both directions) Total mileage was around 18 miles. I came to Patapsco after planning a hike here for my run/walk/hike club. We chose the Cascade Falls…read moreloop trail as it seemed easy for beginner hikers which were a lot of members of my group and like it would not require any extra supplies. We came on a Sunday morning, parking was $2 as our shuttle was an in state vehicle ($4 for out of state!) and when we arrived around 9:30, there was already a decent amount of people at the trailhead parking lot, but we were able to easily park. There is a bathroom located nearby that is clean and has running water. I do think it is relatively well maintained and looked after, though there was 1 stall missing toilet paper. The hike itself was lovely, with fall foliage still around in sight. We did not come across any big wildlife like deer but given the amount of people this made sense. We did use bug spray on our shoes and bottoms of our leggings / ankle area to prevent any ticks. The trail itself was beautiful, there are 2 water crossing areas where you could get by on rocks but I have waterproof hiking shoes and just walked straight through. I would recommend this trail to beginners!

I think that's a bone of contention with our tennis instructor and they take up the tennis courts. The tennis court was very well maintained and we had a wonderful lesson. But they also had several other sports going on. I saw a Lacross game going on. They had a nice set up for food, snacks, etc. I also saw some baseball games going on, people bicycling and running. The parking lot was packed! It was hard for us to find a spot to park and had to wait for somebody to leave. I don't know if there's another parking lot on another side or not. There are plenty of bathrooms. As we drove in there was a library and I believe some sort of rec center. There's a lot to do here!

This is our favorite park. There's a playground and access to the BWI trail. The trail goes…read morethrough the woods, so there is plenty of shade on hot days. But the best part is that the park is on the other side of Dorsey road from the airport, and planes fly directly overhead as they are about to land or after they have taken off; it differs from time to time. Because they are so close to the runway, the planes are very low, so the kids get really excited. Our daughter loves to watch the planes. My only complant is that there is no swings in the playground, but you can go east on Dorsey 1.5 miles to Sawmill Creek Park where they have swings.

The park itself is very well kept and features a nice updated playground for kids to play on and has rubber mulch rather than wood chips so for that reason alone I appreciated it more. There is also a walking/bike path that goes back a ways and two "porta potties" that were kept relatively clean and had hand sanitizer available. Definitely a good place to occupy your kids for a little bit!

But get out of the car, walk over the ridge, and behold! Picnic tables, a few in-ground charcoal grills, a tennis court, and park benches strategically placed along the path. The picnic tables are shaded nicely by the trees, but if you need to move one around a bit for some reason, you can because they are not chained down. There are also trash cans so you don't have to carry it out. A coworker told me the path goes around the border of the park but I haven't walked it yet. Soon though. There is also a small stage there and apparently they have live musical performances some times on the weekends. I'll be watching for those as well. Great place to take lunch to and eat outside away from the office!

The second is on shade and seating, because I don't plan to stand the whole trip. Third is quality of the equipment, and the forth thing is the actual condition of the park. Well the park itself is pretty big with plenty of open space for pretty much anything you could dream of doing. The playground area though it wasn't the biggest, it wasn't crowded and the equipment was in good shape. There is a huge water tower behind the park that provided a good deal of shade at the time I was at this park, which had 2 benches near the playground,and yes my daughter had a great time. When i went they were actually having a music in the park event. However i'm not much for country music, and it didn't really look like there was anyone there that may have been interested in some good old J.Cole, K Dot, or Yeezus. I wasn't trying Wang Chung that night... So i left that part to the natives. Overall this is a very nice park, and i'll definitely be coming back.

A county-managed natural preserve right in the middle of the county. It's over 1000 acres and has…read moreseveral miles of trails. The official parking location right off Trotter Road looks more like a national park facility than one of our humble county ones- lots of spaces, landscaping, informational signage, and bathrooms. There's an educational nature trail (grab the brochure on your way onto the trail), a good place to bring a family you're teaching to love the natural world. Lots of lovely old poplar trees. The north end of the park has "deep woods" vibes since unlike other local parks, there's no mountain bikers, no horses, no picnicers, and the river is a good walk away. Plus a large buffer zone extended north from there. Until a jet on final approach to BWI roars overhead to break the spell. There's riverfront access along the Connector trail. Respect the signage regarding closed areas. Most of the trails seemed suitable for runners. Note the trails around the Meadow on the map is mowed into the fields, which makes for a different experience underfoot (not my favorite personally). The parking lot is gated with signage saying it closes at sunset. However, the gate is powered and gave the impression it's the kind that won't lock you in- but best to check with the county to verify that. The trails here weren't my favorite (PVSP trails are more interesting to hike), but having such a substantial greenspace and nature preserve right in the middle of the county is great, and having it quiet and natural is even better. We in central Maryland are lucky to have so many of these kinds of spots.

As with most hiking places, be careful after it rains since it can get very muddy in some places. I also really appreciate that right next to the parking lot are clean bathrooms with running water and water fountains. The trails are fairly well marked and there are also maps available. There were also pamphlets of a list of all the different species of birds that live in area which was a pleasant surprise! My favorite part is the meadow area with really tall grass. But there were a couple of bird houses and once we saw many swallows (I think?) flying in the area and perching on the bird houses. Parts of the trail also go alongside the stream (I think the middle Patuxent river) and it's a very serene area and walk. We have already came here to hike a handful of times and plan to come back in the near future for more relaxing hikes!
