We had Jeff at Rockcandy DJ our May 2013 wedding and he was great! We originally went with Rockcandy (despite mixed yelp reviews) because they were the best mix of affordability and professionalism in our budget. Jeff turned out to be our most reliable and communicative wedding vendor. He was very easy to get along with and incredibly responsive. Our venue was a difficult one and Jeff handled it like a pro, even bringing to separate systems so that everyone was able to hear the toasts. Our guests had a ton of fun on the dance floor and we were overall very pleased with our service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rockcandy for your next event. read more

Rock Candy DJ's were the first major vendor that we booked for our wedding. We met with Adam about a full year before the wedding and began discussing wedding day time lines and general music choices. We were especially happy with our choice at the time because Adam seemed to have a great grasp of our need for Mexican/Spanish genres of music, which was extremely important to us. Needless to say we didn't think too much about music for the rest of the wedding planning until about 1 month before the big day when we get a phone call from a different DJ (still from RockCandy but not Adam). Not only did she not know the style of music we were going for, but she didnt have ANY information regarding our wedding at all - no name of venue nor time of event. We were shocked that there was absolutely no warning of a different DJ and not even any hand off of information. Needless to say, it seemed like we started the whole process of booking a DJ again - explaining what we were looking for and how and why. Our new DJ seemed to understand but for some reason we were just not as reassured as we were about her choice of music as we were with Adam. Because of this we decided to choose all the Spanish songs and genres ourselves. We chose about 120 songs, organized into 12 genres and handed over the list to our new DJ, who initially assured us that she would be able to get all the music from the main hard drive. Of course a few days later she tells us that in fact she was unable to find ANY of the songs and that we would need to provide her with mp3 files or else she would have to charge us the iTunes rate for all 120 songs! A bit upset and overwhelmed (this was about 7 days before the wedding) we downloaded all the songs ourselves and sent them over. In the end, our DJ did a good job of playing the songs that we gave her and she played a good mix of both English and Spanish and kept our guests grooving through the wedding. We certainly were satisfied with her performance the night of, but were extremely disappointed with the planning and the coordination leading up to the wedding. Overall, I would probably recommend looking elsewhere for DJ services. read more

I can't believe they brought me to write this review. I've given them 3 months to make this right. I gave Rockcandy an awesome pre-wedding review. Jeff was awesome and I was confident we would have no problems. I get a call on Wednesday night, a few day before the wedding, from Landon who leaves me a voicemail to tell me he's DJ'ing my wedding instead of Jeff. I called back frantic cause I never met Landon. He assured me Jeff had gone over all the details and given him my timeline and that he was very experienced. Jeff calls me the next morning to tell me not to worry, that he will still be there as my additional DJ due to the size of my wedding (400 guests). The day of the wedding, I'm running late...dress half on and looking for my shoes when I get a phone call from Landon. He is lost and it's 2:30pm, the ceremony started at 3pm. DO NOT CALL THE BRIDE - That should be #1 in what not to do as a vendor at a wedding. I needed Rockcandy at the ceremony solely for the PA system, so guests could hear the Pastor, our vows, and our readings. I had violinist, guitarist, and vocalists taking care of the music. So do you think anyone heard anything??? NO!!! The speakers were a joke and we weren't mic'd up. Then we head over to the reception. I had told Jeff that the wedding will not be on schedule and to go with the flow, he understood this. Since I never met Landon, he didn't get me, my husband, or what I needed/wanted. Landon comes up to me freaking out and I had to yell back, "you don't know what's going on CAUSE I NEVER MET YOU!! make it work." During dinner I wanted stuff like Jack Johnson and Jason Marz and Landon played nothing. Something about mixed signals from the bar around the corner. Luckily I had a DJ friend there and he went to the restaurant and they worked it out, then we had music. I gave Jeff a list of about 6 songs that we REALLY wanted to hear during our wedding that would bring back memories with our guests and would really pump up our crowd. Landon played NONE of those songs. I specifically said, "do not play shit like 'This Is How We Do It' by Montell Jordan and I kid you not, it was the 3rd song of the night!!!!!! Landon asked my husband (a UFC fighter) for a picture with him, mid wedding. And had tobacco chew in his mouth during the reception. After the wedding, I emailed Jeff and expressed how disappointed I was in him. That he chose to work a bar mitzvah instead of a huge wedding for a professional athlete who is very well known in Colorado. He didn't respond. I see him at a wedding the following week and wanted to punch him in the face but instead I just said hi. I wasn't going to ruin my friends wedding and Jeff said he would call me but didn't. I get a long, apologetic email from Jeff a few weeks later and he seemed really sincere and acted like he gave a shit at my wedding. I call him a few weeks later and we had a very good conversation about what went wrong and how he failed me. I wanted an apology and for $50 back (ceremony fee) and Jeff offered to refund me 1/2 of my entire bill for the debacle. That was on July 3rd. I have tried to contact him several times since then and nothing. I have no doubt that Jeff is a very capable DJ, he did a fine job for my friend. But the way he handled my wedding was so shitty! GOOD HIGHLIGHTS -Prewedding was awesome -Balloon drop looked great (paid $75 plus tax extra for this) -Music played during intro of wedding party and bride/groom was correct BAD HIGHLIGHTS -Dropping a new DJ in the brides lap a few days before the wedding (Their contract states, they cannot guarantee who will DJ the wedding but I deserved more then 3 days notice) -Calling the bride to tell her they are lost -Failing to honor contract for ceremony -Playing shitty songs (Boots with the Fur, Cyclone, This is how we do it. Really? Am I in 8th grade?) -Poor communication -Failing to honor verbal agreement of refund read more

Jeff was WONDERFUL from an administrative prospective. I also had a last minute song change for our first dance that he was able to accommodate. There was only one song played during the night that was not appropriate. He also switched up the song immediately when the crowd didn't respond positively. The party lasted until our venue kicked us out. I would definitely recommend Rock Candy, and their relationship with Arrowhead Golf Club really maximized the experience. read more

Jeff DJ-ed our wedding in October of 2014 and was awesome. He met with us several times before the event, including a walk through at the the venue and for drinks a few days before to make sure we were completely at ease. We decided change some of the items on our initial invoice agreement and he had absolutely no issues. The day of the ceremony he was on time and extremely helpful. He checked in with us at several points before and during the ceremony to make sure we were on time and everything was going great. We even decided to make a change to our first dance right before the ceremony started. He rolled with it and had no issues. I couldn't recommend Jeff and Rock Candy DJs more! read more

You won't find anybody else who puts the same attention to detail into every aspect of your music, and all phases of your ceremony and/or reception, as Jeff does. He'll listen to your specific music requests, and also help to guide your decision-making process, and provides a ton of invaluable information and extras - questionnaires and music lists, recommendations and more. He'll even write a special intro speech for the couple which was a great and unique add-on.Also, and just as important, he kept the dance floor packed, and everyone across all generations had a blast at our wedding. Boy do I have a review to give! My daughter got married last weekend. I am a very detailed, meticulous planner, so I worked very hard on all the details of my only daughters wedding. During our initial meetings with Joel, we were assured that all our requests would be no problem whatsoever. We were scheduled to have: a DJ for 5 hours, custom uplighting of the ballroom, GOBO custom designed for the dance floor, and 2 confetti cannons for the grand entrance. We even insisted on a demonstration of what the confetti cannons would look like, so Joel did a demo outside the RockCandy offices. All looked fine. The DAY OF THE WEDDING - our DJ (Kay, who was awesome) struggled and struggled with the wrong/broken/crappy equipment that had been delivered. Bottom line: instead of 15-20 uplights and the promised 'magical' effect, there were 3 that flickered on and off. The ballroom is very large, so 2-3 lights were pathetic and might as well not been there at all. Instead of the fantastic confetti cannons (2 were promised) ONLY 1 went off, and shot 2 or 3 streamers. It was embarrasing. The GOBO, which we had paid even more than EXTRA for(apparently it was a complicated design of THEIRS, so we were asked to pay even more) - the equipment did not work to display it. The hotel AV engineer stepped in for free to try to help, and they were able to shine a blurry image on the wall. So blurry, that people asked what it said. Their equipment failed in every way, except for the music - thank GOD. I will never recommend Rock Candy DJ to anyone. They failed miserably. Their equipment failed miserably. Kay - the DJ was wonderful, and we absolutely loved her. There it is. read more

Very surprised to see such negative reviews here, my experience was lovely (not perfect but still an A). I'll list some negatives first: we had a very hard time getting in touch with our DJ - he was not good at returning calls and that got me pretty freaked out as we got to the end of planning - and our "custom choice" songs didn't get played at the reception - basically they said we could request songs not in their database but then didn't play those. Now that those are said: the prices was great, our DJ kept the crowd going strong all night, he took care of all the announcements which was great, and overall the night went beautifully. I see that a lot of people have problems with the "special effects" type things but we didn't use any of those so I can't comment. All we had was reception music. Final word: Was it perfect? No, there are things I would have liked slightly different. Was it still great and helped make the night fun and wonderful? Most definitely :) read more

We used Rock Candy for our wedding/reception last month and had a great experience...in fact, I am pretty shocked by the comments below! We booked them about 8 months before our wedding, and had pretty constant contact with them throughout that time. We had our initial meeting to discuss what we wanted and decided on the "basic" package, wiht the addition of a GOBO (monogrammed light on the dance floor), so nothing too crazy. The only criticism I could offer is that our assigned DJ switched several times - starting with Jeff (who we really liked), to Johnny (who we also liked), and finally ended up with Donnie (who we ended up liking as well). That being said - there were a few things that didn't go through 100% (got lost in translation) but overall we were very pleased! We had to change venues for our ceremony and ended up needed to be miked at the last minute - and Rock Candy was awesome in that they loaned us the A/V equipment necessary, showed us how to use it, and didn't charge us for the rental...which was awesome, as budget was a HUGE driver for us. There were a few songs on our list that they didn't have - but they got them in time for the reception. In addition, Donnie was a great communicator throughout the night - and was NOT cheesy in the least, the one thing we were worried about. He had everything ready ahead of time, and even asked about playing "hard core rap songs" that had been requested by guests before agreeing to it, which we really appreciated. The only reception-related critique would be that the shuttles were not announced towards the end of the night (but that was a lack of communication from me, as I totally forgot), and he played "Shout" pretty early in the night, so we didn't have the number of dancers we were hoping for. For some reason, the review I previously wrote is no longer here. But, I feel so strongly about this that I am going to write it again. Thanks to Kay who was an AMAZING DJ at our wedding.. She kept the party going and did an awesome job! BUT, Rockcandy really failed to deliver. I was highly disappointed in the turn out of what we were promised. The confetti cannon for our grand entrance blew out 2 streamers = lame! We had 3 out of about 15 uplights that actually worked! The whole grand ballroom of the Brown Palace was supposed to be uplit in blue, and we may as well have not used the 3 we had. It was embarrassing. You had ONE chance at our ONE wedding to help us turn that ballroom into a magical wedding wonderland and you failed to do so. Our gobo (that we ended up paying $60 extra for to have made in glass since our design was too intricate for metal) was completely blurry on the wall and no one could even tell what it said!! One of my guests had to ask me what it said. I was so embarrassed! Poor poor turn out on your equipment. What happened? Not okay, Rock Candy. The ONLY thing that actually worked was the DJ and the music. ALL the rest of your equipment completely flopped. The only way the equipment worked was because the AV team of the Brown Palace came through for you and me and let us use some of their stuff and their team to set it up at no extra charge. Had they not done that, we might have just had a silent, no gobo, no uplighting, horrible reception. It was embarrassing. I will NEVER recommend you to anyone. Sorry. We contacted you after the event to express to the owner, Joel, our level of disappointment and rather than an apology and some compensation, he argued with us and made excuses and blamed the DJ Kay. Unprofessional. Poor customer service. Almost ruined our reception. read more

We used Rockcandy DJ for our wedding in Silverthorne October 2013. We had seen Jeff at another wedding last year and hired him right away! The online planning form was amazing. It was great since we planned our wedding from Maryland. We met with Jeff via phone and Email and he was very responsive. The forms went through so many details of the day, and it ran seamlessly. Jeff played songs we liked, and made sure we had all of our songs for the first dance, ceremony entrance, etc. We used some he didn't have in their library and it was no problem for him to get them. He also added in a slideshow and dance performance that my family did for me just a week before the wedding perfectly! (Also gave us a great price adding in the equipment to pull it off). During the middle of the night my family requested the dollar dance, and he built it right into the reception after I asked for it. He was great! He arrived to the event on time, set up quickly, and checked in with bride/groom to make sure we were ready before he began. We used the up lighting at our venue and he did a beautiful job highlighting the venue. He really kept the party going all night. He played my aunt and uncle's wedding song (after he learned it was their 41st anniversary in two days), and kept the flow of the wedding events going perfectly. All of our guests had a fantastic time dancing - he really read the crowd. Our only complaint is that we had our mothers do a reading during the ceremony and we didn't have a mic for them to use, and we thought we were going to. He did mic our officiant and we were told everyone could here her. We had a fabulous experience with Rockcandy and would recommend them to anyone. read more

Johnny and his co worker were awesome!!! We took advantage of both his DJing services and photo booth rental for our wedding. The photo booth was a huge hit, we used the photo strip print outs for our "guestbook" and everyone had so much fun with it. Johnny was right on schedule with the music and was super flexible. We ended up having pretty cold weather so i mentioned we may need to move things inside for the reception. I was obviously super busy but when he saw people migrating inside because of the weather he moved his station inside too. It was really nice to not have to worry about reminding him of the schedule or ask him to do anything. Would book again x 100. Thanks again!!! read more

We met with Johnny at Rock Candy over Skype several months prior to our wedding. Since we were planning from across the country, we didn't meet him in person until we got to our reception site after our ceremony. His planning website was very user-friendly, and every song that my bride and I thought to play at our reception was listed on the site, with links to hear each song. The site had lists for songs we definitely wanted played, songs we definitely DIDN'T want played and songs that we would like played if time permitted. We were also able to choose songs for our first dance, cake cutting, wedding party intro, father/daughter dances etc, right on the site. Though we didn't need him to DJ the ceremony, there were options for choosing all the songs for the important moments in the ceremony as well. We even emailed him a last-minute request for the wedding party intro a few days prior to the wedding, and he found the song we wanted and had it cued up and ready. I was somewhat worried that a very outgoing DJ would make my introverted family uncomfortable. I needn't have been concerned. When it was time to get our guests up and moving, Johnny managed to do it in a way that was fun and energetic, without being pushy or inappropriate. Once he opened the dance floor, it was never empty. He was the perfect MC; when he needed to get peoples' attention, he did, when he needed to be invisible, he was. Though we didn't get a chance to rehearse any of the songs, a quick nod from me during the intro and first dance was enough to tell him that it was time to cut a song short, and it felt seamless. The music was just as we hoped it would be. He managed to play about 90% of our "must play" playlist, and even refused to play a children's song my brother-in-law requested for my nephew until he knew we were okay with it. There was only one song my bride was adamant that he not play. As a prank, I asked him to play it near the end of the night. I discreetly told all the guests to surround her and sing along loudly when the song came on. Her face when he told her it was a special request by the groom, and all our family and friends gathered around to sing, "Just a small town girl..." Priceless. Bottom line, if I had to choose a DJ for our wedding again, I wouldn't consider anyone but Johnny. When we started looking for a DJ, I told my bride that the only thing I really wanted was someone who would make our reception a fun party. Johnny understood exactly what we needed, and delivered. He even laughed at our lame jokes. He was fun, but professional. read more

I had to plan all of my wedding on my own from San Diego while my fiancé was deployed. Rockcandy was affordable and their online planning service worked great for us since we couldn't meet with the DJ face to face. There was one instance where I couldn't get in touch with the DJ, but they contacted me as soon as they got my messages and everything else went off without a hitch. The DJ was even the first vendor at the venue when I did a walkthrough with all the vendors. They adjusted things for us when we decided about a month or so out that we wanted to use them for the ceremony too. The DJ even accepted the dance song for me and my father the day of the wedding as he was setting up from my flash drive. We had a very small wedding and all the guys left to smoke cigars at one point which I'm sure was hard for the DJ to get the few remaining people out on the dance floor. But he managed to keep the music and the energy up. He even was able to work in the song I wanted to dance with my mother on the fly. In the end, I would recommend them to anyone looking for DJ service. If you are in the Denver, CO area, it will be much easier for you to work with them too. read more

Let me start by saying one star is very generous rating. We hired RockCandy for our wedding a few weeks ago and they are by far the worst vendor we worked with and possibly the worst DJ I have ever heard at a wedding... and I have witnessed some bad ones. As a other people have mentioned they created so much stress from their inability to determine who our DJ would be the day of our event to their lack of communication until the week before the event to playing 80% of the songs listed on the DO NOT PLAY LIST. They required a very time consuming on-line play list "workbook" which we were very pleased to hear about in the beginning because I would rather they stick with what we wanted and leave the chicken dance for other weddings. Well that proved to be a totally waste of time as they did not follow anything we wanted. In addition to the horrific music selections, they totally messed up the ceremony music by not playing music as my wedding party walked down the aisle and apparently the DJ was taking a nap or playing on his phone when we ended the ceremony because he also forgot to play any music as my new husband and I walked back down the aisle. Save yourself from the headache RockCandy will give you and find ANY other services, even your iPod... you will be glad. read more

Rockcandy DJs (Jeff in particular) are amazing. My new husband and I had very complicated music requests, as we had many friends of ours (who are musical performers) sing with karaoke tracks throughout the night. We also had 3 different music locations for Jeff to set speakers and his equipment (outside, in the dining room, and in a downstairs ballroom), not to mention, a demanding mother of the bride and a perfectionist groom! We could not have been happier with Jeff's service. He was kind, patient, responsive, informative, and talented. There were no pauses between songs, and no point in which we had to remind Jeff of our elaborate musical plans. Going into our wedding day, Rockcandy was the one vendor whom we knew we could count on to deliver (based on the amazing customer service and helpful communications) and they surpassed our expectations. They also provided us with a great photo booth... complete with fun props and a friendly booth attendant. Not only was their service amazing, but their prices were very reasonable. We discussed prices with Jeff several months prior to our wedding and the price we discussed was the price we paid in the end. They never tried to nickel and dime us for the couple small things we added as we planned (a small guitar amp, for instance). We booked Rock Candy about a year before our event and found them so easy to work with. We were impressed from the initial meeting. The online planner was user friendly and had the songs we wanted. After we submitted our planner we decided to extend our reception another hour and they did it with no problems. As far as we could tell Donnie played all of our requested songs. All of the important songs (first dance, cake cutting etc..) were played when we requested. We gave Donnie a reception schedule, which he followed, and was easy going about it when we had to make some last minute changes. I would highly reccomend Rock Candy for any event! read more

We booked Rock Candy about six months prior to our wedding after reading reviews on some other sites and seeing them at a bridal show here in Denver. We found the online planning system to be very easy to work with. We met with the owner Joel and our DJ for an initial consult prior to booking, and later met with our DJ Jeff on a few occasions to go over our planning forms and song selection. We chose quite a few obscure songs that Jeff had no problem adding to Rock Candy's Library for us. He made announcements for all our key events, he kept everything moving smoothly and worked well with our planners at Bridalize to get a timeline for the day that everyone was in sync with. I met with the staff of RockCandy DJ in January. The staff said the DJ's had several hours of training. I expressed concern that the DJ would be corny or one that just sat back and did not motivate the crowd. They assured me this would not happen. They only book three events per weekend to ensure the best DJ's and availability and provide clients with a big play list. The Modern Package is to include a light façade and additional lighting. The up lighting, would include two colors and be placed around the room to enhance it. January 22, 2011, I called RockCandy and to lock in my wedding date of October 1, 2011. Rock Candy informed me the DJ would contact me three weeks prior to my event. September 12, 2011 (3 weeks prior to event), I e-mailed RockCandy asking when the DJ would contact me and what information to provide for up-lighting. I didn't get a response. September 14, 2011, I sent a follow-up e-mail. Still no response. September 22, 2011, I received a system-generated e-mail stating the DJ would get a hold of me three weeks prior to my event and my invoice was due 7 days prior to the event. I called RockCandy since we were within the three weeks and I had not heard from the DJ. They informed my DJ had not been decided on yet and would have him contact me as soon as he was. September 25, 2011, after several of hours of looking through the play list, I submitted my requests. The owner e-mailed me back he received it and he would pass it to the DJ. September 26, 2011, the DJ called. I asked him to arrive around 2:30 because of time restraints. He informed me he couldn't do that and would be there around 4:00. I asked about the schedule and he did not have one available. I asked what he needed for up lighting and he had no idea what I was talking about and said he would call his "boss". Later, the DJ called with the schedule, changed his arrival time to 2:30, and there was a plan in place for up lighting. Day of my wedding! We arrived at the reception to no announcement. I were looking forward to being announced. The DJ only had a table, and minimum lighting. None of the items promised with the Modern package (extra lights, and light façade) were present. The up lighting was very minimal, one only in one color, and put in random places. Now, its announcements time and he announces our best man and maid of honor incorrectly and forgets to announce the correct ones all together. These two were very important and they did not get the credit they deserved. The DJ didn't have any of the music I requested available. He was downloading the music at the reception. He did not motivate any one to dance. He said very little and what he did say was initiated by me. People told me this was the worse DJ they have seen. Toast time arrives and there are no wireless mics and he is not prepared to provide mics for the toast. The photographer had to get the mics and set them up. The maid of honor had to lean over the table because the mic did not reach. Finally, there was suppose to be a money dance for my husband and me. He never did this. This is tradition with my family and I know several people were waiting for this. Missing the money dance cost my husband and I an unknown amount of money. After Wedding I had knee surgery after my wedding so a family friend followed-up and asked for a refund. She informed me she talked with someone. This person informed her they hired out for my DJ! The DJ was not trained by them, did not know how to set up the up lighting (evident by placing), did not have access to the play list, and was nothing I was promised. RockCandy said they would refund some money but I never received it. We called several times following up with no response. My wedding day was suppose to be special. This is one day I can never recreate and the DJ should play a significant role in making it special. RockCandy misrepresentative themselves and fell short of their promise. I filed a compliant with the BBB that they are accredited with months ago and still have not heard a response. read more

I am very surprised at the negative reviews here - Johnny from Rockcandy DJed our wedding last Saturday and was fabulous! We hired Rockcandy in August and I requested to meet with our personal DJ in November (we live in DC and were planning a Denver wedding). We met Johnny in November and liked him immediately. He listened and remembered all of our requests for a slightly different wedding timeline. Johnny checked in with me at least twice the month before our wedding and played exactly the music that we requested, including multiple requests /dedications that I made ahead of time. He also took requests on site and kept the music going. Our dance floor was PACKED all night. Johnny MCed the event and did everything exactly the way it had been planned. Jeff and Johnny were very professional throughout our wedding. Jeff was our DJ and Johnny ran the photo booth. Their photo booth was amazing and I would HIGHLY recommend getting this service for your wedding! On their event planner, they ask you to just provide genres instead of specific songs you want played for the cocktail hour and dance. I was VERY particular about the songs I wanted played during the reception dance since I wanted to dance to certain songs with my friends. Jeff told me that was fine and I gave my list to him before the wedding and reiterated I wanted ONLY these songs played. During the reception, he played several songs that were not on my list, therefore not playing the songs I specifically wanted played. He did say he likes to read a crowd, but at my wedding, obviously I know the crowd and know what my friends will dance to. Jeff was prompt in returning calls and emails. However, he missed a scheduled walk-through with the event venue a couple weeks before the wedding. His excuse was he was in Winter Park all weekend for a wedding and was tired, but I never received a phone call to cancel. All in all, I would recommend Rock Candy DJ's, but just don't expect to have them play the songs you want played. read more
