Rockford is not the place you want to get sent to or your child sent to. They do not care for patents adult or child. Over all they are unprofessional and fail to help people. Deadass never come here. I'm 16 and I didn't eat or shower the entire time I was there. it was so bad. also they have spiders. the food there is made of plastic basically and the staff kinda sucks but some are really nice. the only good thing abt it was the cool ppl I met there. also if ur planning on going here, prepare to have absolutely NOTHING to do there. all you do is wake up, meds, vitals, mental health checkup which is basically just when they ask if you want to kill yourself (in front of literally everyone), then maybe watch a show (usually ends up being something you don't like because 30 people have to agree on one show) and some crayons. maybe some music but it's the same five songs bruh. Maybe if ur lucky they'll let you pace up and down in the hallway for five minutes. Youre not allowed in your room for the entire day which also sucks. I remember literally falling asleep as I was standing up lmfao. anyway besides that it's incredibly bad at accommodating for people on the spectrum or basically anyone who has mental issues (pretty out of the ordinary for a MENTAL hospital.) Do NOT send your loved ones here if you truly care. My partner got sent here after a mental break down. Whenever he called me from their phones, it seemed like I was the only person making sure he was okay, making sure he was eating, drinking water, sleeping, etc. They had him on about 5 different medications when he had NEVER been medicated before. The staff also would not let him shower until he was discharged. Vile. He was also sent into the drug unit because he said he drank alcohol a little bit, instead of the mental health unit, which is what he was sent there for. The employees do NOT care and are only in it for the check. If you're looking for a good place I highly recommend Mirmont, especially the exton location(It is a PHP though). I went there in high school twice and the people are AMAZING. They had us on a schedule, there was an art room and a yoga room, and we could go outside during our group therapy sessions and paint and color. Mirmont gets you moving and challenges you in a good way. 9/10 place. read more

I have nothing good to say about my experience. The only good thing was going to Bryn Mawr after, to realize the difference in care that I so desperately deserved the first day I entered Rockford. Then to be slapped with a bill (that I didn't have to pay) for 40k, at the expense of my pain. KISS MY ASS. The patients were the good part of the stay, if they weren't being overmedicated by an understaffed and uneducated facility. DISGUSTING. "Extremely Poor Communication and Lack of Care" My eight year old was under the care of this facility for nine days. The experience was deeply disappointing. Communication was nearly nonexistent. We had to call 10_15 Times in a row nonstop to reach the child unit only to get through and then rings endlessly and then hung up on or disconnected. This was the experience any time Evan at the hours the child was permitted to talk to family during the hour session. If they did happen to answer they would say they will call us back in awhile and never do so. Sometimes they would call back and return the call after the family talk time was over making us wait 1.5 hours. The lack of responsiveness was unacceptable , especially when you're checking on your vulnerable child that was left in their care. I felt like I left her alone. I eventually requested a 72 hour discharge because I never heard from doctor in days or nurse or had any medical update. The les time she was there to witness kids being tranquilized and the screaming the better. I spoke to our assigned case worker four days after she was admitted. We missed her call and called back right away after three days of hearing nothing. Case worker left for that day forcing us to wait for the next day. I had a case worker who called and arranged a visit. They made her wait 3.5 Hours for her planned visit in the lobby area till they felt they were ready for her to be seen. They stated it's very busy and they are short staffed. The case worker whonhas been dealing with these cases for years had never witnessed this type of wait and not being able to connect or communicate effectively on the phone. She was stunned as we were. The hospital program that mt child was in never was able to get through and give or receive any information the entire stay. They were also shocked by not being able to communicate and tell them the behaviors they are seeing and trying to work together. there was definatly no collaborative care. My child also said a worker flicked a child in the unit in the face leaving a mark. She said she did nothing because she didn't want to get a needle like the other kids that made them not walk or get more time in unit and not be able to leave. That was her experience. Basic needs were not met. My child said that her shower curtain was on the floor and not fixed her entire stay. thy said call was put into maintenance but was never fixed during her stay. This speaks to the facility's disregard for patient comfort and hygiene. The doctor barely spoke to us. It took four days of me relentlessly calling (finally escalating to a nurse supervisor who gave me an attitude) to acknowledge our phone call and request for information on her care. During family visit on Saturday she came out drugged looking and her hair was matted in the back. She looked stressed out and not taken care of and it was hard to see her staring off and talking so low you can't hardly hear her and unable to hold a conversation. No light in her eyes. This disgusted me to see her in this way. Seemed worse than anything trying to give her care and this is what we were met with? Families DESERVE TRANSPARENCY , RESPECT,and Timely updates on their childs care. Especially for a Child who is not capable of understanding and caring for themselves in this situation. This facility failed on every level. I would not recommend them to anyone seeking competent compassionate care for a child. read more

I beg of you, someone, please check or even better, TAKE DOWN this facility. Staff are extremely neglecting, fail to care for patients, and fail to realize even what it's like to be mentally ill. This place might just be borderline insanity. Not the patients, the staff in perspective of an adolescent patient. This might be iffy to write knowing that I've been treated okay-ish myself and have been in and out quick, but reading the reviews rises concern, and I apologize if this comes off as scattered or doesn't make much sense. Firstly, the lack of care. On my unit, adolescent girls, it was very stagnant. Same rooms everyday, same people, same schedule, nothing for us to be preoccupied with aside from drawing or writing every day, always the bigger picture and never focusing on ourselves aside from our doctor, which isn't even personalized to the individual, and social worker.. Of course we had the daily activities such as school (which is no longer applicable) and expressive therapy, but that's the only time it feels like they care. Realistically, you take care of yourself except for when you can rarely see your social worker. My social worker and my doctor are the only two who really knew my situation and tried to compromise off of it. In fact, I never felt better until my family meeting, which my MOM had to help me, but alongside my social worker of course. While I'm on this note, they never care really until you say you're suicidal in the moment. You know what's crazier? If you can't take a joke here, you won't even survive with the staff. Everything is either always strict or shouldn't be taken to heart, which I fail to understand. Another thing I noticed is if you have a messy room, you get ridiculed. Don't get me wrong, yes I agree it is a good habit, but you work in a psych ward. You work with mentally ill patients who fail to get the motivation to clean, and a gentle reminder is okay! Never ridiculing patients in front of their peers that they have to be around everyday. One of the reasons I assume I got the "nice treatment" is because I didn't necessarily have behavior issues, which I can't say for the rest of the patients or future patients, which I will say again. These staff members act as if we are prisoners opposed to people who genuinely need help. One day, on my either third or second day of admission, my mother brought around five or six notebooks along with hygiene products, one of them being specialized lotion that I need for my eczema. However, staff fail to realize some of this stuff provided for us isn't enough, especially when parents go out of their way to personally deliver these things. My mother told me prior during an in-person visit to look for bags with my name on it, which staff never bothered to notify me on. I had to look myself, and next day there were bags with, just like she said, my name on it behind the counter. However, no staff called my name, asked other staff who knew me to let me know my stuff was there, but let me figure out on my own. Anywho, I asked a staff member behind the desk to check the bags for me so I can get my stuff, which were only several empty composition notebooks with what I can also assume writing utensils and hygiene products like mentioned before. When I asked the staff, they told me what was inside and that it'd go in contraband and search through it before handing it to me, which I have to issue with. However, I'd never see those bags again. Not only have they completely discarded and disrespected me and my mother who went out of her way to BUY and DROP OFF these items which is, mind you, an hour away from our own home, but they also never even gave it back. But during my discharge, they pull out a duffel bag my mom ALSO got for me which I never even saw or was aware of the entire time. I hate to accuse, but this place might just be stealing, neglecting, and disrespecting already struggling families and patients. Heavily not appreciated. Also, aside from always responding with contact information and waiting for someone to yell in your face and tell you that your facility is absolutely shitty and fucked up, do something about it with the hundreds of one star reviews on yelp and google COMBINED. Don't come here expected great treatment! Come here and expect an extra pinch of trauma you never asked for in wishes to just get better. :) read more

If I could rate this facility lower than one star I would. If you're having problems with mental health I'd highly suggest against coming here seeing as it might make you more suicidal or worsen symptoms. This place is awfully ran from hiring possible ex-convicts that run "you-might-be-the-issue" kind of groups that gaslight victims of any kind of abuse and trauma into thinking it's their fault they ended up there. Ty**** in specific on the recovery unit. A self-indulgent man that wears a religious gown every shift and acts humble but scorns anyone that doesn't respond to his lingo. (This brain washing doesn't work for people who are voluntary and self reflect a bit too much which was my case) all the way to rude staff that behave like high schoolers and are annoyed at patients tasking them with anything as little as asking for them to open a door to wash your clothes. It doesn't help that any other person that runs expressive and music groups barely acknowledge you outside of you being a patient and have what seems to be latent contempt for certain patients they don't want to interact with but are tasked with remembering everyone's name. LOL pls seek other employment (or help). I was supposed to leave and be discharged today this Thursday 05/22/25 but they hurried everything and expedited my discharge date 5/20/25 2 days before on Tuesday, upon me finding a half naked patient in my bed after coming back from breakfast to wash my hands. When I found the patient I had opened up my door just enough to see their naked leg, lying on their back facing the ceiling. I closed the door right then and walked to the front desk and told staff (once again Ty****) "The Spanish girl is in my bed" and the really heavy set white nurse had called it out for everyone to hear so I didn't think he'd go down himself but he did from what I saw and scarred himself as well. In retrospect I should've warned him but in the moment I didn't even want to acknowledge what I saw, barely knew why it happened and I just wanted to wash my hands and get myself away from the situation. I told the first person I saw thinking he'd get more staff or tell someone else watching her, like a translation assistant that was following her around the day prior, to take care of it but I saw him go down the hallway on his own before I went into the hallway bathroom. Horrible. Shocking. There are no words to how this made me feel and the awkward treatment from the staff afterwards to them hustling and bustling me out of the place unexpectedly given that my sheets were contaminated and/or soiled. Time stamps are 8:45 AM - 8:55 AM from all of us walking down from the cafeteria and back to the unit, to me opening my door to room 153 on the right side of the direct hallway straight ahead of the opening doors, and walking back to the front desk to tell a member of staff. A tall dark lady with grandma glasses and short hair rushed my discharge so fast it was low-key alarming. Lots of nasty attitude and possible projections after just dealing with the issue that morning. From rushing me to put on my shoes to pointing at me to leave with a weird mug on her face. The staff they have in this place (Recovery unit) is so gross. Please save yourself or any loved one from coming. I promise you'll regret it. I'm now enrolled in the outpatient program transferred from inpatient, and I'm going to get names of every nurse that handled my discharge and care at this god-forsaken center. The sinks are redundant, out of date and a major hygiene issue and they don't care. The timed button-press sinks are so old they can't shoot water after you press. You read that right. You have to press and hold with one hand while rinsing the other. The only one that works right, to my surprise (not really) is the one in the lobby bathroom. The hallway bathroom everyone had to use(due to being locked out of our rooms for 10 hrs) had what they called a "delayed flush" but a faulty sensor was what it really was. It flushed periodically and sometimes didn't with human waste sitting for however long before someone tried it again hrs later. FWIW I'm a hyper vigilant autistic 22YO Black male and I see everything and vividly remember it all, even what I don't want to. I'm at least glad that I can recall most of it, if not all and point out faces. The cab they called for me( a strongly opinionated Ugandan man) insisted on dropping me off to my mailing address he was given and refused to drive me home saying "I'm not an uber" in a strong accent, so I had to get out at a neighboring location (but far in walking distance)from my shared ride that sat next to me. I had to walk with my duffel in the rain all the way home. I'm not really finished but that's enough for today. read more

I wish there is an option to rate this as a zero! Near the end of 2003 (around October/November), my mother was committed to Rockford by my stepfather after she "thought" she had witnessed my stepfather molesting me. He convinced my mom and staff at Rockford that she suffered from a form of schizophrenia that caused her to hallucinate my abuse because she was abused in her past. She stayed at Rockford for a total of 4 weeks. During those 4 weeks of my mother being gone, I was raped, sexually abused, and beaten by stepfather every night. 4 weeks to me felt like 4 months. What makes me angry is that Rockford in 2003 did NOT investigate the claims made by my mother, which were serious. CPS wasn't called (which you are required to when it involves a child/minor), licensed professionals and psychologists that were at Rockford did not thoroughly investigate and properly diagnose my mother for actually having schizophrenia and took the word of a predator who was able to manipulate the system. My mother could not leave Rockford until she "confessed" to her schizophrenia and that what was happening at home wasn't really happening. As a result of the lack of protocol and responsibility on behalf of Rockford Center, I was raped and deal with a life long trauma of the abuse I suffered. I have severe PTSD as a result. Rockford is similar to jail. I came here twice when I was having manic suicidal episodes hoping this place could help BUT NO, THIS PLACE WILL MAKE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH WORSE. The "mental health technicians" are the most callous, degenerate, apathetic, LAZY people I ever met. The techs bully and laugh at patients. I do not think the techs have any degrees, education or training. They are simply there for a paycheck and could care less about any patient. We weren't allowed go outside to get fresh air when we wanted to and naps were prohibited. The techs will withhold the telephone to call family. They will withhold hygiene supplies, towels, pillows and blankets. I became friends with the some of the patients there and we all agreed that we felt like prisoners. If they were to hire educated, kind, caring, hard working mental health technicians.. people would actually enjoy their time here and feel welcomed to come back. But instead, they chose to hire the most horrible under qualified technicians so people DON'T COME BACK. They don't want people to enjoy their stay or readmit themselves because it costs them money. Some of the registered nurses were very kind and professional. Some were lazy and rude. There was usually only 1 nurse on the unit. read more

The parent company, United Health Services (UHS), has settled a $122 million FRAUD case with the us govt and various states. This place is HORRIBLE, MEAN, and does not provide individual treatment, only warehousing, drugging, abuse, neglect, and HARM. I wanted to write this for people like me with mental health problems who think that they will find their salvation here. The reality is that this isn't the mental health boot camp that you wanted it to be. Or at least the mental health boot camp that I wanted it to be. Most of the people who work here are just doing it for a job instead of what we assume hope to be more altruistic intentions. I say this because unfortunately I was let down by many of the people that I came across in pursuit of mental health treatment. Too many of the faces I saw had little sympathy for the things they heard and handled my case poorly. I don't mean to slander some of the better nurses that are in this line of work but she's some light on the less than favorable reality of today's nurses. Most of the nurses that I encountered in behavioral hospitals like rockwood and Belmont were the wrong sort of people for the position. They pursued their nursing degrees as an act of greed and not what we would hope to be genuine desire to help and heal. I guess so get it but with someone face a mental health crisis it can be frustrating when the faces you look to for help are the same as the ones who made you feel vulnerable in the first place. Wish that there were more good people who pursued degrees in medicine. I think that a lot of the people who work here chased their nursing degrees for the power and stability it would provide rather than out of some personal aspiration to help people. There are some good people in here but I don't think too many of them are aware of the problems that their patients face. I'm sorry if I offended the wrong people when I say this. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY here if you truly care about them!!! This place will lie to you to get your family member in their system. They will assure you that you can visit and that you can take your family member out at any time. That is a lie. They will lie about the status of your loved one and make up allegations that do not go in the patient chart and no one can seem to find the employee who supposedly reported whatever they claim your loved one tried to do. The arrogant Dr Gupta will try and say he has the final say in what happens to your loved one. Please remember you can get a court order to get your loved one released. Dr Gupta doesn't spend enough time with the patient to get the type of diagnosis he claimed to (he spoke to my child once for five minutes.) He says he's been overseeing the clinical side of this horrible establishment for the last 16 years. So he does not see a problem with the way things are run. The staff does not care if the patients fight each other or if they bang their heads on the wall as my son's roommate was doing. Your loved ones are not safe in there because there is no oversight. No one watching out for your loved one so do not subject them to this place because there's no guarantee they will be safe. The staff will lie and say that the doctor called you but there will be no missed calls. They will violate HIPAA by taking calls and setting the phone down so you can hear patient info being passed in the background because they did not bother to put you on hold. Overall, do NOT use this state funded establishment if you truly value your loved one's mental health. The only light in this dark place was the social worker who did everything she could to assist us once we made it clear we were going to get our child out. She knows who she is. The rest of this staff is shady. Make sure you get names and take pics of your forms so you have proof if you do decide to use this shady place. You will need it once you see that it's not what you thought it was. Demand to speak to the doctor and see if he bothers to show up. Make sure you do not let Candice one of the many supervisor or managers there push you around. Be careful and report this place to the state because it is unsafe for anyone to be there when their staff lies about the patient. read more

I had suicidal thoughts and I was informed that I will take an assessment, but ended up staying in there for 5 days! The staffs were so rude, the strictness level is really high, and they lost my clothes! These clothes were really expensive and they said, "I don't give a f***". This place is awful! My daughter went to get an assessment done so that she could get into their outpatient program. They told her she needed to get admitted and if she didn't sign herself in, they would commit her!! For what? They wouldn't say, won't answer her questions, won't give her the medications that she is normally on for her thyroid and seizure disorder. They curse at her and are extremely disrespectful. Today, it's been 72 hrs and she should be allowed to sign herself out. The doctor said "maybe tomorrow" he doesn't have time to do the paperwork today! What a waste of resources...this place is all about getting the insurance money and you are totally at their mercy. Run, don't walk, away from this facility. At rockford during my discharge. They forgot to communicate about my discharge and I was told I'd be getting discharged by Jennifer on Thursday. Then on Thursday I was told I won't be getting discharged, but I'd be discharged Friday. And when I got discharged they brought my roommate down instead of me, upsetting my roommate. Another story is In the junior unit a fight broke out and the victim's parents were not informed about the fight and found out from their child during visitation. And one time my parents called and after talking with Mr. Brandon it counted at part of my 10 minutes for a phone call so i only had 3 minutes to talk to my parents read more

i was punched in the face by another patient and the employees did nothing. i had to get loud and ask for an X-ray and be moved to another section. the employees are the laziest inhumane people. it is written that each patient would have a team of experts meet with them daily. my doctor talked to me two times for 5 minutes. my social worker confused me with another parient. it's over drugged jail. there was no therapy. repulsive! read more

There are some parents who are very close to their child who just happened to have s minor behavioral problem St school and the staff there quickly had that child sent a two hour drive away from home and family,then the doctor has a very poor professional attitude by demeaning the family member(s) who had come for visitation and a meeting.People are already stressed and to have someone so uncaring make snide remarks to you is not very commendable not helpful. Whomevetbthe attending doctor was on Tuesday,should be reprimanded on his attitude toward family/ mother's whose child is a resident at that particular facility. where do I even begin, this place is literal hell on earth. I've been a patient here 4 times over the last 7 years and each and every time I was treated like a criminal. staff would often mock me for my weight, my looks, my choice in hair color and my choice in music during music therapy. I was told on multiple occasions that my issues didn't matter, that I was worthless and that id be better off dead. all this place does is force feed you drugs that they just haphazardly prescribe you. I was here in April of 2020 at the start of quarantine, this place did NOTHING to clean up the unit or stick to the covid guidelines. I came here with suicidal ideation, depression issues, and self harm issues. I left with severe ptsd to the point I refused to sleep at night in the fear that id have a flashback. I'm now terrified to ask for help because im worried ill be treated similarly to how I was treated here. for the love of god DO NOT SEND LOVED ONES HERE! I beg you to reconsider sending anyone here. in January of this year I was in the outpatient program where I met a social worker named Stephanie. oh boy Stephanie, what a massive, inconsiderate, non-empathetic and down right disgusting person. My little sister was sent here after making threats toward herself at school. She was a very young child and was put with a group of only teenagers. She laughed at a joke one of them made and was bullied for laughing. The staff yelled at her when she cried about it. She refused to even smile for the next four years. They ignored my questions and my appointment was rushed. They were extremely argumentative and became angry very easily. I was trying to explain my situation and they just contradicted everything I was saying before I could finish. I was very unimpressed with their level of skill. It seemed like they had just started yesterday. They consistently dismiss my concerns and accuse me of making problems up. I don't trust them to ever actually look into my concerns and see if they're valid. Their prices were not fair at all. They were extremely overpriced and I felt ripped off. I was sexually violated by a staff member to told me to get completely naked and face the wall after a visit. They're supposed to search your shoes and pockets. I was verbally abused, demeaned, and mistreated in every way possible. Please read my whole review so you can understand just how terrible this place truly is. My boyfriend came here for a few days and was sexually assaulted by one of the staff at 17, he was told he would be back there, his room was filthy, the food was horrible, there were constant fights, the staff treated the patients like dirt, the shower in his room didn't work and he stood in filthy water trying to take a shower. He was put in a room with two schizophrenic people while he was only in there for depression and cutting. Multiple people hit on him saying he looked good and tried to prey on him the entire time he was at this horrible place. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS TO THIS PLACE. My boyfriend legit has PTSD from this place and they even tried to force him to stay there after his mom tried to get him out and they told her they were gonna hold him there until she paid them well over $1000 dollars. Trying to call him every day was a headache and I had to jump through multiple hoops just to even be able to speak to him. One of the staff crossed out my name even though I was on the calling list that was approved by his mother just so I couldn't talk to him. We sat in a waiting room for 6-8 hours straight the day he was admitted while the entire facility around us was completely empty. There were no staff at the front desk and there was even a little girl who was a patient sitting alone in the room next to us the entire time we were there unattended. I'm not one to nitpick but when I tell you that this place is hell on earth? I mean it. Every patient who has been there has come back multiple times. This place uses you for money and doesn't help your kid at all. They're forced to do unnecessary school work and activities that have nothing to do with them getting better. My boyfriends mom literally had to call the place and get into a full blown screaming match with the doctor or whoever overseeing the adolescent ward. When we got there I even asked if we could come back and see the facility and rooms just to make sure it was okay and I was immediately told no and got the vibe that they were hiding something. I guess now I know. The rooms are absolutely horrible, they reek of mold and the paint is peeling off the walls. They rarely had toilet paper or any basic necessities and as I said before one of the staff sexually assaulted and touched my boyfriend right in the hall way out in the open asking if he had a boyfriend or if he liked girls. Every time I spoke to my boyfriend on the phone I could physically hear the staff screaming and cussing at the patients saying horrible things to them. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy and I hope none of you put your child or loved one into this place. read more

I was put here I met 4 boys here that were so sweet and when I got out a month later I was told when the boys were released they committed suicide they called us crazy all we did was color watch movies and play games and school was just listening to music that was about suicide and death the one song I remember was "better off dead" and it made many of us depressed many of us were still cutting while we were hospitalized. read more

I attended rockford when I was 9 years old, I am now 18 and graduating high school. Rockford was a very scary experience for me that still haunts me and I have flashbacks about it during my daily life. I was exsposed to a lot of gang things and other rough behaviors. It was not well organized, I was a nine year old girl placed with teenage boys as old as 17 during "coping activities".I remember laying in my bed at night hearing the staff yelling or the kids screaming and crying. I was so happy to see my mom and go home. As a child, this place was horrifying. I would wake up everyday being scared of what I would hear, see, or be exposed to. I can confidently say this facility did not help me at all, in fact I think it may have made my mental health worse. I did not like having a roommate it was very awkward and uncomfortable. The doctors were very dry and didn't really help me at all. I hope I forget about my experience here because it was just awful and terrifying. I also believe that kids should be placed by their level of how much help they need. I was there for about a week while some kids were there for years. read more

I have been trying to figure out a way to fully express how thankful we are to have our child in the partial day hospitalization program at the Rockford Center. If there were an option to give 10 stars, I would do that. When I took our 6 year old there on a Sunday night, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the intake process was so easy and honest. I felt I could discuss our situation candidly and that they would understand. And the intake counselor addressed our son directly, making him part of the process. She didn't judge him or us and we left knowing he would return the next day for the program. He had a tough few days at first in the program, but the counselor and psychiatrist said it could be expected. For better or worse, he exhibited the same behaviors as at school but that helped the clinicians hone in on a diagnosis that hadn't been mentioned before. Soon after, he was improving, participating in the program, and happy! The psychiatrist, therapists, and teachers are incredible. We are always kept in the loop on his progress through daily reports or calls or both. But I have to say that two nonclinical staff are also tops in my books. First, one of the receptionists helped me calm my son as I completed some paperwork. She got his attention and helped him stop banging his head on the vending machine. Then kept his attention so I could finish the paperwork. But the person who connected most with our son was the van driver who picked him up with a great big greeting every morning and dropped him off with a fist bump and a smile every night. He is the one who always made sure our son's day started and ended with a smile. We will never forget your kindness. For everyone else works there, we felt like there was no other place to turn when we got there that Sunday night. Now we feel like there are options and hope. Thank you for all you do. read more

I had a traumatizing experience there in just 5 days of being there on two separate occasions, inpatient. I will talk about the second time because it was the most traumatic. The second time I went there, I was 15, last year. I had been diagnosed CRPS/RSD (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which is an invisible chronic illness, with a very high pain level), my pain has gotten much worse since I was 13 (the first time I went there). So I went there willingly because I was in such a depressive state, that I was willing to give them another chance. When I got there we were placed in a conference room to wait. My pain started to increase and so we tried to get someone to talk to. There was no one there to talk to in the area we were in. A doctor came through but he said that he just got there and walked out. After about 45 minutes of waiting in pain. There was another patient waiting in another room walking around freely. This place has homicidal AND suicidal people together. Anyways, I was in so much pain that I didn't want to be there anymore, my pain outweighed my depression at the moment. I just wanted to go home and somehow cope with the pain and get it to go down. My mom started banging on the glass to get someone, anyone's attention. Staff and security guards saw her but ignored her yelling and banging. A nurse finally came by and said they would send someone over, but no one came. My mom called 911 because I got into so much pain. The EMS arrived. He was literally behind the glass door. My mom told him through the glass that I was in severe pain and needed help and taken to the hospital. Let me make this very clear. Rockford staff do not care about physical health AT ALL. My mom told staff that she wanted to leave because this was unacceptable. We waited for too long, had been ignored by every staff, and I was in too much pain and they couldn't handle my condition. The staff would not let us leave and called the doctor, who refused to discharge me WITHOUT seeing me, meeting, or knowing about my health condition. Rockford staff refused EMS to assess me. The door between us and the EMS guy was locked. I could see him but couldn't get out so I had a panic attack and dropped to the ground. I got myself together quickly though but I was crying in pain the whole time. He couldn't do anything ,THE STAFF DIDN'T LET HIM HELP ME. They kept us LOCKED IN THEY'RE FACILITY. I was angry, in pain, and locked in a place with NO medical attention. At this point we were finally causing attention to staff. But they called the police because my mom was infuriated. My mom had to keep explaining to each new staff member that arrived, about my medical condition, which nobody knows what it is because it is considered rare. While my mom was talking to the police and 3 staff members, I started hyperventilating. Long story short they didn't let me leave. I was wheeled into the teen girls unit after my mom was forced to give up because the police were on they're side. My traumatic experience did not end there. I can't fit the rest of my traumatic experience at Rockford on here, but the conditions are horrendous. They do not clean the cafeteria, the floors are sticky and drinks spilled everywhere, the food is uneatable, it is disgusting and fake. People fight and staff barely do shit. Every staff member I told about my condition nodded and believed me, until I later found out that they pretended to believe me. They only believed me when they called my mom, and that was only ONE staff member that did that. Not ONCE did ANYONE call my doctor to confirm my chronic pain condition. They ignored it and then questioned why I walked so slowly in the hallways, (the pain is in my knees). An adult male with some obvious mental disorder just WALKED into our teen girls unit and when they were getting him back to his unit all I saw was him running at me before staff shut a door between us. Another violent, mentally ill, teen boy BROKE A WALL DOWN. This is inhumane and SHOULD BE ILLEGAL, SHUT. THIS. PLACE. DOWN. read more

In all fairness, I knew this place was a warehouse, when my sister agreed to go here. It's more for "look I am doing something" than anything else. But the way I was treated by Melissa Foster, the director of social work, was appalling. Obviously the woman has little or no experience in this field. Her empaty skills are zero.She is also incompetent.I asked her basic questions she could not answer. I think she is used to dealing with people who just will listen to her out of fear. She made it perfectly clear how indifferent she was. This IS my SISTER! She also seemed distracted by something. I talked to another member of the staff, and they said there have been numerous complaints about her. So WHY is she still there?? Given what people are paying, it is outrageous. The first words out of their mouth is "insurance" shows they are just interested in $$$. If Ms. foster is any example, they should invest in better staff. Totally disappointing. read more
