The director of the practice supported this even when I asked for a trauma therapist outside of Pike Creek to be consulted. I continue to try and heal from my experience. This was trauma therapy and I was so deeply attached to my therapist. We were in a rupture but had always worked through it in the past but I found out from reviewing my progress notes that an attorney was consulted to protect the liability of the therapist and practice and instead of repair, I was given a letter of termination. This is what I wrote: Twelve years ago, I was afraid to even put my feet in the shallow water closest to the shore. Slowly, I began to trust you enough to go deeper--where I could still touch the ground. You taught me how to swim. And through the years, as rip currents pulled us in, we always found our way back to safety. I was healing as we swam together into deeper waters, through bigger waves. In storms that threatened to undo the trust we'd built, our commitment to the process allowed the winds to calm. Time passed. I found my strength. Small strokes of consistent progress gave me confidence to let go, little by little, and swim on my own. And then--suddenly--out of nowhere, I felt a hand pushing down on my head. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't understand what was happening. It was you. Trauma swallowed me whole again--but this time, it pulled me under deeper than I'd ever been before. Your hand was the heaviest. And I can still feel its weight as I watch you swim further and further away.
