We were looking for ice cream in Rockport and saw that this place had good reviews. They have a variety of ice cream flavors, vanilla and chocolate soft serve, and sorbet. We tried the raspberry sorbet, which I couldn't eat more than one bite of. The flavor is overly sweet and artificial and the texture is grainy and icy. I wouldn't recommend this at all. The campfire s'mores ice cream was pretty good (4/5), but there wasn't much graham cracker texture which was regrettable. I tried a bit of the vanilla/chocolate soft serve which was fine but nothing special. The Gifford's ice cream here is probably a decent choice for those who are craving ice cream, but I wouldn't recommend the sorbets based on my experience. read more

My expectations for Rockin' Cupcakes were pretty low to be honest- I thought this would be a typical tourist trap. I'm glad I was wrong! The cupcakes were really tasty and they offered a number of interesting flavors. We tried the vanilla, Oreo, and salted pretzel. The salted pretzel was excellent! All the cupcakes were flavorful, fluffy, and well presented. I also appreciate that they put the cupcakes in small icecream cups so you can eat them more easily! One comment on the service, the person taking our order was being very pushy and a bit snappy which we didn't appreciate. There was no line and she was rushing us to place an order, which was very odd. If you can put the minor service issues a side, this is a place to grab a quick and light dessert on Bearskin Neck! read more

Highlight of my summer is coming to rockport and Gloucester, eating some lobster and topping it off with shake from this place! I like to get an ice cream flavor that has "bear" in it. I think it's called Maine bear? But this shake is the best. Right amount of chocolate, cherry and everything else... love it! read more

I was disappointed with these cupcakes. They looked really cute in the case. I couldn't wait to try some out. I found out they were $3.50 each and though yikes, this place isn't even in Boston, these better be good. I chose a red velvet and a marble. The first thing I noticed on the red velvet was that the cake was more of a pink color, not really the dark red. Hence, it didn't really taste like a velvet, it was kind of bland. The frosting was like shortening, whipped very high and dense. What I didn't like was that they hollowed out some of the cupcake to add more frosting to the middle. The frosting was already 3 inches high and hard, it was ridiculous. I want a cup cake..not a frosting cup. The marble cake was a little bit better cake wise. I was able to taste the chocolate and vanilla. The frosting on top and the hollowed out middle was again a huge disappointment. For $3.50 they were a big rip off. The ratio was 85% frosting, 15% cake. I've had so much better. At least they have other desserts and ice cream to keep them afloat. Service was good but I definitely have had better, less priced boutique cupcakes. read more

I've been to Rockin' Cupcakes a couple of times and I have to say that these are the best cupcakes I have ever had. Today I tried the Elvis cupcake which was a banana and chocolate chip cupcake with a peanut butter frosting. Typically cupcakes with peanut butter are very heavy but these cupcakes were light, fluffy, moist and just delicious. It literally had the best flavor combinations I've ever had in a cupcake. I almost went back for another one it was that good! While I was eating it, I also wondered if a chemist made this particular cupcake because it was literally the most perfect cupcake I've ever had. Yup, i'm a sugar-aholic and so I died and gone to heaven when I took a bite of this cupcake! I also tried a confetti type cupcake which is basically a traditional vanilla cupcake with frosting and sprinkles and that was also delightful. I've also previously tried a cookie dough cupcake and that was just ridiculously amazing. Cupcakes are quite popular right now and it is amazing what places will charge for a cupcake, but Rockin' is by far the best. I would absolutely recommend these cupcakes! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I called around to all the bakeries in Gloucester to find a birthday cake or cupcakes for my cousins wife's birthday. It was nearly 5pm as I am located in California where it's only 2pm and since I was so last minute about this everything was closed. Luckily Rockin' Cupcakes was open because Ana answered and helped me put together an awesome selections of cupcakes. They even delivered it within an hour and a half of placing the order!! Not bad for a Saturday night during quarantine times. She also wrote a little birthday note for us and threw some candles on top. From the pictures they look like they are amazing quality and very fresh and the customers service I received was top shelf. My cousin and his wife loved them and said they are really delicious. Can't wait to come visit my family and try them for myself. This was a Hail Mary to look like a decent in-law that paid off amazingly. Fancy pants cupcakes in Rockport!? What?! You better believe it. Located next to the fabulous Bearskin Neck Country Store ;) is the newest addition to the charming downtown in the form of delicious, friendly and tempting Rockin' Cupcakes. The cupcakes are beautiful and I almost lost my mind trying to decide what to get. The sugar that flows through my veins was screaming out for some attention. They have classic combinations like carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and vanilla with chocolate frosting, but that is just the tip...of the frosting. There were cupcakes covered with swedish fish and sprinkles, peanut butter chocolate cupcakes, hazlenut with chocolate frosting and a cherry on top, key lime, red velvet... Oy vey. My eyes were drawn to the TopScotch. It was a chocolate cupcake base with two inches tall vanilla frosting and a butterscotch dip shell. Holy cupcake! The dip makes me think of going to the Dairy train and getting soft serve cones with dip that hardens to a crisp shell of sweetness. want.need.gimme. This was my cupcake of choice. Although a bit awkard to first bite into because the tower of frosting, I braved my sweet and chomped down. The cake was moist! The frosting was sweet and not gritty and the dip was butterscotchy goodness. The cupcakes all cost around 3.5 dollars, but I find that reasonable and acceptable for the quality of ingredients, variety, deliciousness and the fact that you are supporting a small local business. They also serve Giffords Ice Cream, which I have yet to try. I believe I also saw some tiny cannolis as well. The owners are friendly and kind and excited about their product. The shop is small and there is no seating inside, but downtown Rockport is all about the strolling. read more

Go to Helmuts for strudel or go back down Bearskin Neck, take a left and follow until you come to a little shop with a door that is kind of on the front.. I guess it is at an angle to the street. I love to support local business. I went once and won't go back. For a place specializing in cupcakes, they sure don't know how to make them. Dry and over frosted, with cheap frosting. Too sugary and too hardened. It would be fantastic to have a great little bakery in town. Their flavors are weak and just too sugary. My teeth hurt eating mine. My husband got two, one to take home. The best thing about these cupcakes is that they were hand delivered 3,000 miles by one of the cupcake artesians. They were beautiful! The presentation in the box was extraordinary. They were fresh, moist, and delicious. Three of us ate all the cupcakes in about five minutes. We were impressed by the icing inside the cake, and the cake inside the icing. My daughter brought me them in a cute little clear-topped cookie tin, so we are sending it back to Rockport with her to be refilled! Have yet to find a cupcake place that I love in Massachusetts :( but that being said, we just went to this place again yesterday. The kids got ice cream but I got the carrot cake cupcake (forgot the cute name they created for it). It was good but not moist enough and the cream cheese frosting was a bit too sweet and not creamy enough. I have had the turtle cupcake before (which I did not see yesterday) and it was the right amount of carmel/coconut/chocolate but the cupcake was dry. For the only sweet place open the off season, other than helmut's, it was ok for my sweet tooth craving. Wish I could have loved it more, the owner was super nice. read more

I really had a great experience with Rockin' Cupcakes. I was visiting Rockport from out of town and I decided to stop in here. First, there was an elderly lady who needed help getting up the step and into the store, and the man who was working there ran over to the door to help her walk inside. I had the red velvet cupcake, and I thought it was really delicious. I also told the man behind the counter that I was planning to eat my cupcake right away, so he cut it in half for me, heated it for a second, and then gave it to me on a plate with a fork. It was great service, and this made it so much easier to eat as I was walking! I would highly recommend Rockin' Cupcakes. The cupcakes are slightly pricier, but this is a touristy area, so I think it makes sense. read more

I wish I bought a dozen cupcakes instead of one. It was SO good! It was hard to narrow down a cupcake to try since there were so many to choose from, then the owner (who was super nice) had to tell me each one had frosting on the inside of the cupcake too, how could I decide now!? I went with the Strawberry Cream. I was NOT disappointed - it was amazing. The cupcake folded a little to the frosting pressure, all was good, save a little messy to eat. Definitely sweet, bordering too sweet, but I have a sweet tooth so I loved it. They also had hard packed and soft serve ice cream. The boyfriend got a soft serve cone and I tried it - it was tasty. The price didn't seem that crazy to me - we got 2 cupcakes and a soft serve cone for $10. Maybe we are used to Boston prices, but this was very normal to me. Kickass and the other cupcake places around me are the same price per cupcake. And if anything this place does an extra step of labor to make the cupcakes so I think there's more work going into these. If you are up in Beautiful Rockport - grab and ice cream, then take some cupcakes home (they have awesome boxes made just to hold cupcakes perfectly so they make it home - no frosting lost!) read more

I was on vacation in Rockport for a week in August, while walking around town I couldn't help myself to stop in the shop to check it out! I am such a cupcake fan and spoiled by Trophy's cupcakes in Seattle. When I saw all the display of the cupcakes, I seriously was in awe and didn't know which one to get! The cupcakes looked amazing and colorful! After contemplating for a few moments, I went with Black Razz. This wonderful chocolate cupcake was filled with raspberry frosting in the inside as well as on the top of the cake. The frosting on the top was also drizzled with chocolate. The cupcake was good but little on the sweet side; I needed tea or something after eating that! It is definitely a treat to have while shopping in town! :-) read more

I give these cupcakes 5 stars for presentation, but only three for taste. While I expect cupcakes to be sweet, the sugar definitely overpowered these cupcakes and I thought they were far too sweet. I stood inside Rockin' Cupcakes starring longing at a long list of homemade ice creams and beautiful cupcakes in the display case. What's a girl to do? The owner answered about 15 questions about the ice cream. There were moose tracks, lobster tracks, Maine tracks, I couldn't begin to guess the variations. She not only explained all the flavors but also gave us samples of all of them. I probably had an ice cream before I even ordered one. I ended up getting lobster tracks (vanilla ice cream, fudge, orange colored chocolate cups with caramel) and cake batter (actual cake and ice cream mixed together). While I didn't get any cupcakes, my mouth is watering just remembering what these ones looked like. There were at least a dozen flavors ranging from red velvet to snickers bar. They had a decent amount of icing too. If the cupcakes are made with half the love that the ice cream is made of, they too will be delicious. The owner also displays her photography which just goes to show you how Rockport has a strong artist community. Some/most dabble in multiple industries but are all eager to show you at any opportunity. read more

Cupcakes were very dry. I had a butterfinger cupcake topped with a whipped cream frosting. The whipped frosting was too sweet (even for a cupcake!) The cake had no flavor and was crumbly and dry. The staff was really friendly. I will try them again, maybe a different flavor next time. read more

Had a Groupon for a half dozen so we took a trip to Rockport. So far have tried the Boston Cream and Heathbar which were both delicious. Cupcake itself had a lot of flavor. Frosting is a little too sweet and coming from someone with a serious sweet tooth that means the frosting is really really sweet. But very tasty and I will be a patron on my next trip to Rockport. There are people who went in for the cupcakes but I wanted to get frozen yoghurt instead since it is summer. I had a scoop of blueberry oat crumble and a scoop of black raspberry chocolate chip in a cup for five seventy five. They were so great that my wife went into get the black raspberry chocolate chip and coffee heathbar crunch for herself and while she waited for hers, I decided to get another helping of what I had before for myself! In a word, outstanding. I consider myself a dessert expert and these cupcakes are roll your eyes back good. If you don't believe me, condsider that over a three day gorging on Rockin' Cupcakes, I sampled or ate over 6 flavors and was ready to go for more. Back to the taste in a minute, but let's talk service. I ordered a dozen and a half of these (reason for the multiple tastings) for my wife's surprise 30th birthday in Rockport the day before her birthday. No problem for Rockin'. Then Ana (owner) asked if I wanted them delivered to the restaurant where we were having the party. Of course I would! Ana then offered up either a silver or brass cupcake stand for the party. I was picturing a chintsy, plastic stand that would barely hold these amazing cakes. Surprise # 2 - the stand looked like a beautiful ceiling chancelier upside down, complete with crystals hanging off of it. It was almost funny carrying the stand out at The Lobster Pool - a picnic table restaurant. OK, so what did I taste and what makes these so great? I tasted the chocolate rasberry, swedish fish, red velvet, some sort of buttercream, the Reese's and finally the carrot cake (holy smokes it's good!) and I really had a hard time finding a favorite. These cupcakes are so good, it's hard to put in to words. Perfect texture, delicious frosting and for those that say it's too much frosting....scrape it off! The truth is that you can't do better than Rockin' Cupcakes. I'd put one of these on your must have list when visiting Rockport. read more

On a whim we stopped at Rockin' Cupcakes after lunch with all intention to get one of the amazing cupcakes in the display case. the day was hot and we decided on an ice cream treat. We were told by a local shopkeeper that they had unique flavors and the ice cream was made in small batches in Maine. I'm just assuming this is accurate as I did not conform this by anyone in the shop. Regardless, it was an inviting little shop with a creative sign and we were drawn in. So we had a couple of ice creams. I had the cookies and cream and my niece had the Black Rasberry. Both were very tasty w/ very generous portion sizes. 2 small dishes cost about $7 or so which seems comparable to other local ice cream shops. I do want to try those amazing cupcakes although. Perhaps on my next visit into town. I would definitely return as they did have quite a unique variety if ice cream flavors and toppings and again... Cupckakes... One day you shall be mine. read more

Been a fan of Rockin' for a few years now, and looked forward to their re-opening for the season this past weekend. Some go-to favorites are: -heathbar crunch -irish carbomb -key lime -strawberry frosted Tried a new one for the 2011 season during last visit, and boy was it good. "Stuffed French Toast" seems to be stuffed with cream-cheese frosting and topped with maple. Seriously, SO GOOD. Staff was wonderful as always!! read more

My family and I spent a day in Rockport this past weekend and of course had to stop at our favorite place, Top Dog. But, as we were walking around after lunch we happened to notice for the first time Rockin' Cupcakes. I am a huge cupcake fan and so of course we had to stop. They were in the process of making Irish Car bomb cupcakes (made with Guiness and Bailey's Irish Creme) and the place smelled amazing. We wound up coming back after they were finished and bought several along with some Red Velvet cupcakes. All I can say is wow! Loved them. I also love the idea that there is frosting stuffed into the cupcake and cupcake stuffed into the frosting, what a great and unique idea. We will definitely be back for more! read more

I like this place. I don't wanna give it a bad review as I love to have something like this in Rockport...but the frosting is way too sweet. I had the strawberry lemonade one first and it was just way too much. The cake itself is very yummy, but I think they need to re-visit their frosting options. The other cupcakes I had were yummy, but I had to remove the frosting first. They have great ice cream and overall a great little shop but may need to re-vamp a thing or two for next summer! read more
