Upon arrival at around 8PM, we had to call so the inn keeper could let us in, then we got a tour, and were shown upstairs to our room: #4. The floors are creaky with charm, but there's a private bathroom in the room, window-unit AC, and a large and powerful space heater (we were toasty on a freezing night). So much personality and personal touches here. A modest, but complimentary, selection of snacks and drinks are available in various places, too! All in all, I'd definitely come back and stay a little longer!

Upon arrival we received a warm greeting from the gentleman at the front desk and he showed us to our ground floor room. The decor in the hallway set the tone (rather rundown but featuring displays about the area and history of the hotel), one of the rooms we passed was missing a door and had a bed sheet covering the door way, perhaps it was being rehabbed? Our room was clean, sheets were nice and the beds were comfy but the room didn't feel finished (bare concrete floor, exposed pipes and electric lines from the room above running along the ceiling). The bathroom was clean but tiny and a bit rundown. After seeing the room for the first time, I'm certain that had I been with my wife, she would have insisted we get back in the car and keep driving. The hotel restaurant is closed for business (not sure if that is temporary or permanent) but that was definitely the only attractive room in the building. The whole marketing emphasis of this place is that it's "historic" but it's only from the 1940's, my home is much older and I've never thought of it as historic. Frankly, it felt like the whole "historic" thing was just an excuse for being so shabby. All in all I'd say that whoever is in charge of cleaning is doing a wonderful job but the whole place is rundown and desperately in need of restoration. You will be hard pressed to find somewhere decent to eat in town. We received a couple of recommendations for "El Rancho Mexican Grill" and it was pretty awful.

The restroom did have toilet paper and shampoo in the shower but no soap in the dispenser to wash. Also no soap bars at sink only lotion. Coffee pot smelt like coffee, fine its a coffee maker, but had some liquid in pot leftover. I spent the night tossing and turning feeling like I had bugs on me. This historical B&B is nested in the small town of Mena, Arkansas. As we drove upon the property, I already knew that we were going to have a comfortable stay as the driveway itself is elegant. The exterior of the home brings back all the character and charm of the 1900's. The innkeepers were one the friendliest hosts I have met. Both Darren and Jill went above and beyond to ensure that we had the most pleasant stay. A plus on this, is that Jill herself is a baker and had different types of cookies and muffins ready for us daily. Highlights were the blueberry muffins (berries locally picked) and the Louisianna Tea cookies (original family recipe). They even had plenty of drinks stocked for us throughout the stay. Darren himself is a concierge and was so knowledgeable of the home's history and the surrounding areas. The house itself was comfortable and one of a kind. We were given the top floor of the home which felt like a suite. The house has been kept to its original state. Everything from the windows to the doors, and ceilings are authentic. As we walked into the first room upstairs, we could not help but notice the coziness of the decor. The room itself has two twin beds and is connected to the primary bedroom and bathroom. The space was huge and felt welcoming. The beds themselves were so comfortable that we ended up sleeping in daily getting caught up on some much-needed zzz's. I was a little worried about thin walls, but you could not even hear a pin drop! On our last day, we sat out in their back porch sitting area to view the beautiful sassafras trees. These trees are the oldest trees in the area and were absolutely beautiful. As the sun went down, we started to see the mesmerizing fireflies making the our experience majical!. This brought back so many memories since do not have these back in Vegas. This was just a priceless moment for us! This by far was one of our best stays while out traveling. The only other real con for me is that these are outdoor rooms - but there are no indoor hotels anywhere near this price point in the area. To be fair, every place has had good service for me so far, and no exception - the Ozark desklady happily gave me a second key to unlock the room that had my first key locked inside (I was really tired last night, sorry!). Rooms are very well maintained and kept clean. No loiterers outside, unlike other hotels on this vacation, and no smoking anywhere. This all shows, and it's why we're at the top. What I'd like to see for 5 stars: quieter room A/Cs, slightly softer beds, room lights a little less obnoxiously bright (no lamps, it's just a few overheads - all or nothing it feels like). It's close. A good choice for Mena travelers.

I absolutely love this place. We stayed here for two nights…read moreover the weekend. The cabins are easy to get to write off the main highway close to Mena. There is a steep grade climb up to the cabins, no issues for a car or truck. All of the cabins have a view. We stayed at the honeymooners cabin number three in the view from the screened in porch was amazing. The porch is where we spent most of our time. We used the Jacuzzi tub in the living room for a good hour of soak time before bed. The queen bed was comfortable for two people. Cabin was clean and spacious enough for us, And had everything we needed including a small refrigerator microwave toaster oven sink. Good size shower in the bathroom. We stayed in cabin 3, Honeymooners. The interior of the cabin is all wood but in really good condition and there was no smell of smoke. Good communications by text we never have to actually see anyone. Looking forward to the next visit!
