This is the review of the Rockville Public Library: In the downtown section of good ol' Rockville, just across the street from the Rockville General Hospital is the place where the world of reading exists. Along Union St. is a place called The George Maxwell Memorial Library (known professionally as the Rockville Public Library). Housed in over 100,000+ books, periodicals, movies, & other resources, this is the place you might want to look forward into (if you haven't been there, I'm pretty sure you'll like it there). This is a reader's favorite place to read & relax! I have been coming here for many years. This institution is one of the town's most recognized landmarks in existence. Opened in 1904, it had been an independent library up until just last year. It finally became a town department (in prior years, it was operated by the endowment given in dedication to the memorial of the late George Maxwell) in July of 2018 so the town of Vernon now takes full control of this 115+ year old landmark. Now, once you walk inside the library by using the front entrance, you'll notice that they have a lot of historical, well-maintained elements from the time the doors were first opened to the public. Here, you'll see a lonely chair in the reading room (that hasn't been repurposed or recycled) that was there since 1904, along with a light fixture on the top of the ceiling. In the Adult's Department, they have a lot of selection of books, ranging from bestsellers to biographies to books on Holocaust in the dedicated section about its historical event. They don't just carry books, they also bring to you cupcake pans on loan. Then, in the Teen section, they have their room with a lot of selection of these books. Yes, they have a teen librarian who runs it! Next, you walk downstairs, and there you see a Children's room. A room that has a lot to offer for young children & tweens. There's a lot of children's books for all ages! Every time I visit this library (I go there every couple of weeks, considering it's my hometown library!), there is something new I want to get carried on in my hands. A book, a movie, or even a magazine may excite me a lot as I always use my library card to check it out. Annually, they bring in a month full of festive trees in December, a student art exhibit during early spring, etc... You might want to consider making your stop at the library the next time you head out! Just to either get a library card (and have a book checked out!) or attend a library event. I'd love to know more about this library - it feels like it has a big addition put on, and when they discussed trying to make the two parts match just laughed and laughed. It's a really cool effect, don't get me wrong, but it almost feels like they crashed into each other. The library is full of books, both in the old and new sides. The front (even though parking is on the side and in back) looks beautiful and houses work computers. In October, they had a find the Snoopy game, which was delightful! I got a book mark prize, it was Halloween-tastic! read more

Privately owned and a non-profit, Rockville Public Library has been around for over 100 years! In late Spring of 2014, the 110-year-old library held a grand reopening to celebrate the renovations it has undergone. Books (available on tape and CD), VHS, DVDs, magazines, and public WiFi: what else could you ask for from a library? RPL is working on providing downloadable books to the public, as well as an improved and updated website. Also in the works is more programming for after-school activities and job-seekers. The way the old and new aspects of the Rockville Public Library have been merged together, it's nearly impossible to tell that there are now, technically, two separate buildings. Clean and very well-maintained, the library is able to honor the historic aspects of the building and the community while incorporating technological advances. It's really no surprise that many locals consider this to be a focal point of the community and why I appreciate coming here. read more

Rockville Public Library is Absolutely an Favorite. I have been there to Rockville Public Library more than a hundred times because of my hometown right there. This is especially for my family. This Place is Very Recommended. As part of newly renovated Adult Department, We have an great selection of large print books which is located on the left which is on the back wall which is next to reference department on the right, Large Print Books has Mysteries, Romance, and Other Fiction right there but the people who has difficult reading small words with books, magazines, and newspapers because of disability with low vision which is especially for disabled and elderly people. We have an great selection of Feature Films and Nonfiction DVD's which is located nearby the back wall of mystery books (Works of Agatha Christie, J.A. Jance, Dorothy Sayers, Dick Francis and other mystery authors). We also have New Books here with New Fiction and Nonfiction with Recent Bestsellers which is still there. Also, We have New Biography Books there too but we have famous people with film actors/actresses, presidents, music stars, sport players, and other famous people which is located next to magazines and comfortable chairs at the right as part of The Reading Room which is still there at the Adult Department. As part of newly renovated, we have adult fiction books with oversized books which is still there and we have adult nonfiction books which is located upstairs At the Local History Room(which is now upstairs as part of newly renovated adult department that we opened last year), We have an Great Selection of Vernon-Rockville materials with books, newspaper clippings, and other materials there but all of these are non circulated just like at Reference Department. This is great for researching too. At The Book Nook, we have Paperbacks for 50 cents and Hardcovers for a dollar as part of ongoing book sale. We have an basket of free books because this is an great deal to get free books to take home which is still there at The Book Nook (ongoing book sale at the library), which is comparison of South Windsor Public Library and The Traveler Restaurant of Union, CT to get free books too. At the Children's Department, We have lots of easy to read books there which is especially for little people who wants to read like animals, Disney, Dr. Seuss, Berenstain Bears, and other easy to read books, which is located on the left side of Children's Department. Also, We have board books too which is especially for babies and toddlers. And also, Toys, which local children who want to use toys there at the Children's Room. We have an great selection of Children's DVD's to choose from like Disney movies, Educational, Animated Films, and other children's DVD's. We used to carry VHS Movies there because of old school but now, not anymore with VHS tapes because of getting more digital with DVD's. We have plenty of kid's magazines there which is still top with bookshelves but we have Highlights for Children, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Kids Discovery, and other kids magazines at Children's Room. Also, We have Children's Audiobooks on CD's there with juvenile fiction like the works of Beverly Cleary, the rack is still there but where we used to carry VHS tapes there at the Children's Room which is straight to new children's books on the right and DVD's on the left. Very Nice Staff, Great Atmosphere, Very Nice Parking Lot with Cars there which is for library patrons and guests too but the library is an very quiet place. Also, We have new stairs and an new elevator there as part of newly renovated library right there which opened last year. Me and my family have my hometown library cards because we live there as part of my community and The Town of Vernon. I love Rockville Public Library and given 5 stars for this amazing place ever. I am coming back with my family every week. Best Library Ever. Awesome children's programs, and always free to attend! Lots of details on their website, so if you need some free entertainment for kids check them out. The only drawback is you can only check out Museum passes if you are a resident (we are not residents), other than that it's a wonderful library. read more

Not having been to the library in a very, very long time, I decided to visit the Rockville Public Library. I had not been there since the renovation, that's how long it had been. After getting my new library card (& Keychain card too!) from the very helpful librarian, I wandered around looking at the new fiction books, then wandered over to one of the two computers to look up a few books thst I'd been longing to read. Since I was "new" to the library, the librarian told me where everything was & was extremely helpful in answering my questions. I love the atmosphere and history of the Rockville library, and it's a great place to relax and lose yourself in a good book. After checking out 3 books, I happily drove home...to read! I highly recommend this library, and I'll be back soon. read more

The library itself is great. The building is old and has a lot of character. There's always a good selection of books. Unfortunately in today's digital age, the librarians aren't very helpful. Most of the librarians are older woman who do not know how to use computers. This can make checking out very frustrating because they never seem to know what they are doing. If you end up using the library's computers and have trouble printing, you are pretty much on your own to figure out the problem. It would be great if this library had more tech savvy staff.. Otherwise it's a great little hometown library. :) read more
