Good course and it was in excellent condition especially for January. Good people in the golf shop, Gary was very helpful and assisted our group to play on the course. The restaurant offers a short order menu plus grab and go snacks to continue your round in a timely manner. Fairways are generous in size and the green complexes are very large. Red flags indicate the hole is in the front of the green, white middle and blue is back. I think the back nine has more character and demands better ball striking than the front nine. Another Burger weak entry, and add a unexpected location so we decided check this one out as it sounded quite interesting described as a deconstructed Beef Wellington. Unfortunately the burger was not very good, it was dry and overcooked most likely a frozen patty, desperately in need of a sauce of some kind I certainly would not consider this anything in relation to a beef Wellington the mushrooms on the bottom were just chop mushrooms LOL. I thought it would be a long shot to get a quality burger at a golf course Cafe and I was right, the staff was nice the inside was nice and I've golfed here before but as for the burger game it's a no for me. read more

The greens are a complete joke. Slow to the point where it completely ruins chance of having any type of game. No one could muscle a putt enough to get the speed. Went out today and asked if I could play 18 holes and was told yes. Paid for my round and started at 5:41. After finishing 9 I turned the corner and was approached by the starter on the 10 tee box who told me I needed to turn my cart in because I hadn't paid for 18. I told him that according to the website the rate for 9 and 18 were the same for an evening tee time. He proceeded to tell me the price for 18 was the same all day and that there wasn't an evening rate. I asked if I could pay the remaining "regular" rate for back 9 and was told no. After driving an hour to play I was extremely disappointed with the lack of consistency regarding this and can't help but feel like I wasted my money. read more

The course itself is in great shape. However, the [customer-facing] management needs to be completely taken over. This is the only range I have ever been where an employee walks down and "reclaims" balls that are left behind. I had a large bucket which I paid for - and a small bucket with 10-15 balls left behind sitting next to it - and the worker asked me which bucket I paid for... Not a huge deal but nothing I've ever dealt with at a driving range. And unfortunately this experience fits in with the general care that the course management treats customers. Hopefully this policy is thrown out.. If not plenty of other driving ranges around Fort Worth - Hawks Creek, Pecan Valley, Leonard Golf - all much better options. read more

As far as City of Fort Worth Golf Courses go, Rockwood is one of my favorites. It's not the most well maintained or well managed course, but it's a hoot (that's right, I said hoot) to play. There are only 2 par 5's at Rockwood, the 1st and 18th. The view on hole 4 though provides a magnificent view of downtown Ft. Worth. I play "The Rock" once a week and being a par 70 course, it's rather easy. No water traps and shallow bunkers will help keep your score low on this course. They also have a very well maintained driving range for you to practice your game on. Rockwood is part of The First Tee program so if you are looking to get your children involved in golf, this may be the place for them. read more

Rockwood Golf Course - View from the 4th tee - Golf Near Me - Fort Worth, Texas

Redesigned in 2016, this course is definitely not the same animal as it was before. 7000+ yards from the tips with multiple par 3's over 200 yards, 8 out of 10 par 4's over 400 yards, and a par 5 over 600 yards means you need to put on your big boy pants when playing out here. Don't let the open layout fool you, this course is difficult with lots of strategically place bunkers and trees to try and force you to play conservative (which is what I would suggest). Another bomber's paradise if you like hitting your driver off the tee with lots of space out in front just not very wide. This golf course staff behind the counter needs to give their head a shake. They are under the impression that the customer needs to accept what ever service they get and be happy. I am a platinum member and I've had better treatment and service from a hole in the wall bar staff. Try hiring people who actually love golf and can smile while working at a golf course. Excellent Ft. Worth muni golf course. Fun design in excellent condition-particularly for a muni. The new clubhouse has been a great addition as well. Imo, the best of Ft Worth's munis, and better than a lot of the area's more expensive public access courses. My only significant complaint is that the greens are usually very fast, although a lot of players would consider that good. read more

The course is fantastic, the staff and management teams are one of the worst in DFW. Course is always overbooked. You're always going to be waiting on 2 group in front of you on ever hole. And if you have a problem with it? You'll be cussed out by the big bad man in the pro shop. I've heard this guy literally yell at a guy and his kid before. I've played here several times and have put up with the constant crowd and 6 hour rounds to play the course, but yesterday was definitely my last round until that buffoon in the pro shop is put in the cart barn. Worst managed golf course ever!! We were doing a friends tournament of best ball. There was a total of 10 of us who had booked three tee times because one twosome back out because they were sick. We had two open holes behind our group and the volunteer marshal yelled at the first portion of our group saying that we were not allowed to have 6 players hit best ball. Saying that the group behind was going to complain. The first group was already waiting on other golfers in front of them. The marshal took so much time yelling at our first group that the two hole gap was gone and the entire course was then waiting. The group behind told us to call the manager that was there at the time. We did and he didn't understand his marshal is who held up the entire course. He just said we have too many regulars here that will complain about you guys having 6 players. Most people won't complain unless they're held up, and when playing best ball it would be hard to hold anyone up unless you get yelled at by the marshal. Worst course ever. Poor conditions. None of us will ever be back. Highly recommend you find a different course to play!! read more

This course has a new design layout and it is well worth it! This isn't your typical "inner city" golf course. The greens were great even in the hot summer month of June. Highly recommend. It's hard to get tee times since the new lay out came out about a year ago. read more

Have played the course about 5 times since the redesign. Really like the changes to the course and enjoy the challenge. The course has been pretty crowded since the reopening. My only real gripe with the course is pace of play. I have yet to see a marshal anywhere on the course and had a group of 3 cut in front of me and start on the back nine. I asked if they had played the front and they said, "no, there were several waiting to tee off on number one so we are starting on the back". Also got behind 2 guys playing out of one bag which caused slow play. I have considered getting a platinum membership for the City of Fort Worth courses but am having second thoughts. Hopefully, things will improve and they will have marshal's on the course to monitor pace of play and assure players take care of the course considering the amount of money that went into the redesign. read more

The newly redesigned course is very nice with lots of character. The addition of lakes, sand, undulating fairways and greens have made this a course with some very picturesque holes. My only 2 complaints are the greens are rock hard. No way to fly the ball in. They will not hold (I hope this improves as the course matures). The second cut of rough is extremely penalizing. Hit one off line and you have no chance of finding the ball. This is going to make it very difficult for the average golfer. They should take it down by a least half to give golfers a chance to play out of it. Other than these couple things Fort Worth has a new golf course gem. read more

The new Rockwood is nothing short of a complete 180. Once an eyesore along Jacksboro Highway to a mature looking piece of landscaping with views of the Fort Worth Skyline on a few holes. This course is a winding mix of extremely difficult holes and relief holes. The risk/reward nature of the par 4s and par 5s will leave a golfer scratching his head through and through. The Course shows its teeth to a slice-playing golfer on holes 14-17 with the hazard lined fairways and a long par 3 15th. The course drains beautifully and in my opinion the square greens are a nice touch. The clubhouse is somewhat dated, but hey, its a city course. Golfers beware, the greens near the highway can be extremely difficult to read. They tend to break away from the highway as most of them are cut into the hill. This is now one of my favorite layouts in the area. the 4 stars is not for the course itself, but rather the clubhouse. It is tough to give five stars when you have played the likes of Texas Star and Cowboys, but the layout itself and the maintenance can hang with the big boys. read more
