I said I would update once the job was finished. Bottom line: I would not want any other Custom Deck company to do my deck. Here is why: I found them to be trustworthy. I originally hired them because I saw how hard they worked and how good a job they did on my neighbor's deck. They did the same building mine. When things went wrong they fixed them. They stayed until everything was right with quality results. This was a large $100K+ project. They might not be the cheapest but they are reasonably priced for what they do. Being trustworthy means a lot to me. Someone in the neighborhood reportedly had a deck contractor walk out on them after spending $85K. That was never a concern with Nate despite being a long project. This project involved redoing the roof, electrical, pouring concrete below the deck, doing stucco work and redoing gutters along with building a deck and adding windows and doors. Nate essentially served as a general contractor for the non-deck items. We basically took a 30'X10' deck and expanded it 5' to make it 30'X15' then divided it in half making a 15'X15' room covered by a gabled roof with windows on one side and sliding doors on the other side and open to the west. The other 15'X15' portion of the deck remained completely open. As far as quality of the work I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. read more

They have a 5 year warranty but according to Greg, it's not valid because of the fine print. After spending over $25,000, the railing is coming apart and he will only fix it if I pay him more money! He has no integrity. read more

So happy with replaced deck! The first 2 pictures show the original deck. The remaining pictures are of the new and improved deck. The new deck looks so much nicer. It is much sturdier (our stairs used to wobble) and the accent lighting is pretty in addition to adding to safety. I can't say enough wonderful things about Nate Gregg with Rocky Mountain Custom Decks. We obtained 6 bids for the job. He was not the least expensive but the options he provided and the manner in which he suggested things made us the most comfortable with him. He and his crew were amazing with keeping a very clean worksite and dealing with the winter conditions. Our stucco posts needed to be opened to add additional support but Nate put us in touch with Colorado Stucco and Rock and they did a phenomenal job. You cannot tell any difference in the columns. We'd like to recommend Nate Gregg of Rocky Mountain Custom Decks, which has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We did a lot of research and had estimates done by different companies last Fall because we wanted to add a pergola to our west-facing deck to help us deal with the afternoon sun in the summer. We ended up replacing and enlarging our deck with Timbertech composite with an inlaid border of a different color, adding metal railing, lighting, and adding a beautiful pergola that spans 22 feet without additional columns in the middle, so that it doesn't block our view of the Peak. Nate did a great, non-pushy job of proposing design options and working out the architectural and engineering aspects of proper support. He replicated the stucco columns with contrasting color bump-outs that were part of our home when it was built.This blended the deck and pergola in with our house so that it doesn't look like an after-thought. His foreman, Mike, was careful in everything he did, very detailed, cleaned up every day before leaving, and produced very professional results. He is busy, so it may take 2-3 months to get on his construction schedule, but the end result is worth the wait. read more

8/6/2018 We had a hail storm with golf ball and baseball size hail. The hail broke 3 windows, damage 5 window frames, more than 50 broken cement tiles on the roof and stripped paint off on one side of my house and that was just the worst. My new deck that I just got in June didn't have a scratch on it. The composite material was much stronger than my cement shingle roof! I was so please I didn't have to get my deck repaired too. read more

Our project started Oct 4, 2017 and is just now finished today June 7, 2018. We were told 6-8 weeks. Numerous issues. Please note if you go with RMCD a "crew" is 2 guys.And don't be surprised if they pull your crew to go work on another house for a week or 2 as happened to us. When one of your 2 guys hurts themselves, no one else fills in (as happened to us) and we had one guy on the job for a couple weeks. A "full crew" to Nate is 3 guys (as happened to us, he 'promised' a FULL crew upon the re-start this spring, quick was 5 weeks--remember original job was to be 6-8 wks!) RMCD owner/contractor Nate was reluctant to make/give us a drawing. We had previously had a proposal from 2012 from another company and he used their drawing and felt that was sufficient for us (even though alterations were made). The drawing he gave us did not show the house in relation to the deck. So as they had gotten to the posts, it right in the middle of our window! Told him this was not ok (and going back and forth with him saying we knew that was how it would be) it was fixed. Every single day of the job I would go in our back yard and pick up more than a handle full of rusty and new nails, screws, pieces of wire, and when I complained (we have a dog that uses the yard) I was told "it is a construction site". Well I didn't want people walking on them and being stuck into the yard. Every single day I spent over an hour picking up and the owner DIDN'T CARE. When the job was stopped last fall due to temperatures, I was left with our two gutters on master deck FULL of debris to include more nails, dirt, OUR LIGHT FIXTURE from the wall left there, along with broken roofing tiles...all left for ME to clean out! Last fall my husband asked Nate if he had looked at the roof extension they put on. (I seriously doubt Nate made it to the job site more than a couple times to inspect his men's work, which therein lies the problem of this company!) Of course Nate hadn't noticed. The pitch was off. He then proceeded to tell my husband it would cost US another $2000 to fix THEIR MISTAKE! I did file a BBB claim due to this. He initially tried to close the BBB claim right away and he agreed to fix it with no additional costs (duh). Prior to the restart, we noticed from a side view the roof and deck were not level! So Nate came back out prior to the restart this spring with a level (no he didn't know because he never came to site) and yes it was off. Add to the list of things to fix. After the railings up, I had come home and I see them DRILLING A PIECE OF FLOORBOARD ONTO THE TOP OF THE RAILING. TACKY!!! No one discussed this with us, no one asked our preferences. Nate texted my husband a copy of the drawing which shows "something" thicker on top of the railing but no mention of what it was! We told Nate this was not acceptable so he took them down, put new railings up with NOTHING on top.Even though it is shown in the drawing, nope, we get nothing. Clearly a huge error on Nate's part. So it is left as is, and he refuses to do anything else.Last but not least,I was outside as his main guy Mike was getting ready to leave. LUCKILY Mike told me "we will be back next Monday to PAINT the gutters we will be installing. In Colorado where we get hail frequently? Again, yet another thing that was NEVER discussed with the homeowners by Nate. You can buy brown gutters. He also told us during the early phase last year that he would go over with us how to treat the floors. Yep, not a word on that. IF YOU EVER DECIDE TO GO WITH ROCKY MOUNTAIN CUSTOM DECKS, ASK QUESTIONS. How many guys will be on the job? Will they get pulled away? WHAT ARE THE EXACT PLANS UPFRONT as to the deck and the railings, etc what products will be used? Make sure you know EVERYTHING he plans on doing, the details of EVERYTHNG in the drawing. And look after the workers, I hate to say it but it is up to the customer to check their work! Otherwise Nate would have NEVER known our deck wasn't level, or that the roof pitch was off. THANK GOD MY HUSBAND WAS A FORMER CONTRACTOR AND KNEW WHAT TO LOOK FOR! My last piece of advise? Choose a different company! read more
