This 5-Star Review for Sassy Shannon! I was shopping for a nice pair of black shoes at Roderer's when I came across a style I liked -- unfortunately, the last pair and was a half size too small. As I continued browsing, I found two pairs of loafers I really liked and went to look for the male salesperson who had initially helped me. While he was engaged in a discussion with another staff member, Shannon noticed me and kindly stepped in to assist. She was friendly, attentive, down-to-earth, had a great attitude, and made me feel like a valued customer right away. I showed her the shoes I wanted, and she took it from there with professionalism and a smile. It turns out my feet have actually shrunk -- I now need a half size smaller! Shannon went to the back to get another size for me. In the meantime, I decided to try on the first pair (the ones I thought were too small), and to my surprise, they fit perfectly. When Shannon returned with the smaller size loafers, they fit well but slipped off my heel. Without missing a beat, she added another layer to the insole, and just like that -- they fit perfectly too! Sassy Shannon turned my shopping trip into a fantastic experience. I'm normally an online shoe shopper, but it was so refreshing to go to a shoe store in person and be able to try shoes on. What stood out to me was the customer service. While I came at a busy time and had to wait for someone to help me, the employee who assisted me (Angie I believe) was kind, patient, brought out other styles and colors of the shoe I was looking for, and ultimately helped find my perfect shoe. Roderer's shoes have always been a high quality shoe store and as a kid my Mom would shop at the N. Main St. location in Dayton. HOWEVER, during the past 4 times that I've been to the location in Towne and Country on Stroop I HAVE NEVER been asked if I needed assistance when I've entered the store except on one occasion. read more

Roderer gets 5 stars because it is unlike any other shoe store in the area. Roderer caters to a very specific clientele; one that is looking for a high-end comfortable, well made/crafted shoe. If you're looking for shoes under the $100 price-point, you're probably going to want to avoid this store. Not saying that it cannot happen, but as I said, they cater to a specific shoe clientele. For those reviewers who complained about price-point, shop at DSW. Roderer sells brand shoes such as: Merrell, Naot, Dansko, Ahnu, Keen, Teva, and others I don't even recall. As I noted earlier, they're selling a quality shoe. Service is excellent; they take their time with you, so be prepared to wait if you need to. I've shopped here multiple times prior to moving to the area and even had the owner help me with shoes. They're honest about the shoes and may not always have the exact size you're looking for, but they've offered to order specific things in for me as well. They have a large sale-shoe / clearance room which is hit or miss, as clearance typically is. If you shop this part of town here, it may benefit you to pop in frequently to see what they have on sale. I always find something I want at Rodere, whether or not I have the $$ to spend. Went to Roderer Shoe Center to find a good pair of dress shoes. Three people behind the counter not really anxious to help. A young man finally helped me with a pair of shoes I had selected. The salesman sized me and brought out the shoes. I tried them and told him they were slipping at the heel. I asked to try a size smaller and he said they would break in and be more flexible after a little wear. I wore the shoes two days later and was not happy with the fit. I returned to the store knowing I couldn't return them but still wanted that shoe. I explained to a different salesman my situation and insisted on trying the smaller size. The salesman came out with a different shoe in the same color. I told him I wanted the same shoe. He then told me it was out of stock but he could order it. To me this appears why the first salesman insisted the shoes would break in. I am speculating they are probably working on commission. I expressed my disappointment over the situation. I told the young salesman this was my first and probably last experience with Roderer. His reply wasn't an apology in any form. It was what young people use as a last swing when they know they are dealing with an upset customer but want to communicate they don't care with a snippy "have a nice day". I wanted to buy a good pair of walking shoes but I couldn't get anyone working there to pay attention to me, even though I stood in front of the registers facing two employees for four minutes. They wouldn't even look at me. They just talked to each other and were doing paperwork. Several people were working there but only one of them was assisting a customer. I tried to approach another worker and she walked right past me, not even looking at me, to the storage room. So I went online and bought a pair of Naot walking shoes for about $185 from Zappos.com. I'll never go back to Roderer Shoes again, even though I usually go out of my way to support local businesses. read more

We have bought all our kids' gym shoes here for four years. Staff is exceptionally patient and wise about helping kids pick shoes. They have also, without fail, taken shoes back for poor design causing material failure -- even if my child has worn the shoes to school. read more

Roderer's is a new store located in the New Town and Country shopping center on Stroop Rd. in Kettering Ohio. ** Side note : They are not affiliated with the Roderer shoe store on N. Main, I called and checked. I like this family shoe store because they carry good quality shoes and they have excellent service. I was waited on by Ashley and she was very nice, you can tell she works well with kids. She brought out shoes that picked, and a few more that she thought I would like. I couldn't decide between New Balance or Stride Rite. I ended up getting my son a pair of Stride Rite Saucony tennis shoes, they are too cute! The kids shoe area has a atmosphere appealing to children, so they feel very comfortable. There is even a train at the top of the ceiling that goes around the room to entertain them. Another benefit is that they keep your children's shoe information on file so the next time you visit it makes things easier. While I was waiting for Ashley to bring out my shoes, 2 other employees asked me if I needed help. I told them Ashley was waiting on me but they were still very friendly and talked to my 2 year old son. I went here to purchase a pair of shoes with a good arch support. Of course you can buy a nice insert to put into any pair of shoes you already own to give them some arch support, but it's hard to do that with sandals. I took my time and really looked at almost every shoe. Majority of their shoes are on the pricier side, however I suppose you get what you pay for! I was specifically looking for women's flat ballet type dress shoes with an arch support & some flip flops. I was dissappointed that they didn't really have many options for the flat dress shoes, but I did find a nice pair of Vionic flip flops. After about 2 months of wearing the flip flops I noticed that the sole of the shoe was coming detached. I no longer had the tags or the receipt, but I took them in to the store to see if there was anything that could be done & with the card I paid with and the estimated time of purchase, the employee was able to search their system & find my purchase transaction. They allowed me to swap them out with a new pair of the same exact ones. They said it was very unusual for a pair of Vionics to have an issues, which I believe because my mother-in-law owns like literally 15+ pairs & swears by them! Overall I was very impressed with the store, their commitment to customers & how they stand by their products! read more

This is a wonderful place you can always count on to get a A+ customer service coupled with high quality shoes. I am shoe challenged much of the time and it is never an issue at this store. Every time I shop there I wonder why I even try to get shoes anywhere else. The associates will spend as much time with you as you need, and they are not commission based. The shoes cost too much to be treated by the sales rep like you're inconveniencing them by asking for a shoe in a particular size. After striking out of them not having my size on 3 different pairs shoes I wondered off to the clearance section. The shoes still costing $80-$100 a pair. I have been researching Chaco's for a year now, and really wanted to try them on with someone who is experienced and known for customer service. I went to Roderer's because I had heard they are the best customer service in the Dayton area with more expensive shoes. The first time I went in the boy who helped was frankly not helpful. He was nice enough, but he knew nothing about Chaco's, even though he owns them. I asked him to get someone else to help fit them on me, and everyone else was too busy. I was frustrated from lack of help. I was asking him for help with the way they fit, and he was just not enthusiastic at all and seemed to not be interested at all; it felt like service at Walmart who isn't getting commission! I bought them anyway, because I really wanted them and don't have a lot of free time to shop. I ended up returning them a week later, making a special trip. The lady at the register helped look online, but she just seemed like I was an annoying girl with too many questions. I got her to get me someone else who knows Chaco's to help, and she was very sweet. None of the salesman knew that Chaco's came in wide, which is what I ended up taking home. But I wish I had just returned them and ordered them online, because I feel like I would have been better off doing that in the first place. This is my third episode of poor or no service in this store. My husband and I went in to the store today at about 1:30. He chose 3 pair of shoes to try on and we stood around for 15 minutes or so waiting for assistance. One of the employees a mature short brown haired female with a black shirt 3/4 length sleeves was working the men's shoe department. She made eye contact with me twice and failed to acknowledge us or let us know that she was aware that we might need assistance, and would be with us when she was available. I would have tried to speak to her to let her know we needed to try on some shoes, and that we would wait but after the second time she looked directly in my eyes, and ignored me I figured why bother. They lost at least a $200.00 sale today due to negligence and lack of communication. We would have gladly waited if we hadn't felt like we had been ignored. I am 70+ with "not-so-great knees" and needed some comfortable walking shoes. The Roderer Shoe Center at Town and Country was recommended to me. I usually buy inexpensive shoes from various stores and as the old adage states, you get what you pay for". Roderer's is a spacious store displaying a large variety of of styles and manufacturers brands. Becky, a delightful and knowledgeable sales person (not, I emphasis, NOT a clerk) assisted me. She made sure the shoes fit properly and were comfortable for my needs. Cheap - No. Inexpensive - compared to what, tired and hurting feet?
