My wife was looking for new work shoes and we had an excellent experience. The customer service was far beyond our expectations! This was worlds apart from the big box store experience. They had all the shoes we wanted to compare and Sean was very knowledgable and answered any questions we had and even ones we didn't know or think to ask. Any options she knew she wanted to try were brought out and even a few more to make sure she was satisfied with her choice. Sean was personable, patient and eager to help. After the custom fitting, he suggested for her to move up a half size from what she'd been wearing. She has a history of foot issues and I was excited to see how this would help. One day in and she's noted that she's much more comfortable. Sean seemed to really care about making sure we chose the right shoes and gear and we were never rushed. From start to finish, I can't think of another time I was this impressed with the level of service received. You know... there's a reason that everyone that has reviewed this place gives it 5 stars. And I'll add my name to that list because the service here is outstanding. Both times that I have in this store the staff were available, friendly, and helpful. This time was my wife's first visit. In just one time, she has said that she wants to become a loyal customer. As I expected, she was immediately impressed with the people working there. And then there is the high quality stuff that they sell. Admittedly, they don't have as large of a selection as you might want but they have just just what I was looking for. And they have events, teach classes, etc in the community room of their store. I have been running/jogging for 40 years so I had a pretty solid idea of my shoe size and what I needed but I went through the fitting process with Joan. She was very thorough and attentive to the process. Admittedly her sizing result were pretty much what I expected but this was the first time that I had that done that I thought the person doing it really knew what they were doing and I do learn that my left foot is somewhat smaller than my right. Go check this place out and enjoy your visit with the folks there. You won't be disappointed. (While I was there, a gentleman brought in a pair of shoes that he had ordered from them, admitting that he screwed up in the size that he asked for [clearly he did not go thru the process that I did]. My Mom needed a new pair of walking shoes, she heard about Up and Running and wanted to stop by so we did this Saturday afternoon. It's in Centerville in the shopping center by Dorothy Lane Market Centerville at Whipp & Far Hills. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in & Greg took care of us. He started by finding out what she would be using the shoes for, asking her if she has any foot issues and then sat us down had my Mom take off her socks, measured her foot sitting down and standing up as well as had her walk barefoot to see how she walked. He talked to her about her walk & then selected some shoes for her to try. He was very patient with her & listened to my Mom as she has issues with her heels. Finally my Mom found a pair of shoes and while we were at it I ended up getting a pair of shoes too. Greg and Up and Running thank you for your time and experience today. Truly fantastic! I went there to get fitted for orthotics. They have the benches spaced pretty far apart so it doesn't feel like you're on top of another customer. The woman that helped me seemed very knowledgeable and I got a great pair of orthotics using the computer based feet assessment. I'm going back to get fitted for athletic shoes next. They do have a treadmill in the store so that you can try out whatever shoes you like besides just walking around the store. If your doctor writes you a prescription for orthotics like mine did (even though you don't officially need it), they will give you a discount (I can't remember if it was 10 or 20% off). read more

Sorry, but I was not impressed with their customer service but I do like the final shoe product I walked into the store and was not greeted but a couple after me was. It felt punitive but I still stayed because I was told by several people they have an excellent product. The sales lady finally approached and seemed very friendly but was constantly looking at the door and acknowledging new customers as they came through the door. She fitted a great style for me but had she been playing a little closer attention to the fit, maybe she would have noticed that she was recommending a whole shoe size too large. When I questioned her, her response seemed a bit arrogant and condescending. Althought I kept and am pleased with my shoes, I did decide this establishment does not deserve my return to their store. I just started walking every day so went to Up and Running for shoes. I appreciated the help of the staff there. The first set of shoes I got there ended up not being the best for me. Thanks to all their help they re-fitted me into the same shoe, only larger. Now my walking regime can continue uninterrupted and without additional expense. I'm a fan. I went here initially just to buy some new running shoes at their end of the year sale (12/31). Suzie (I think is one of the owners), hooked me up with the right shoes and invited me to the running group that meets on Saturday. She suggested I come early so that she might introduce me to some of the other runners. Up&Running has all your running needs from shoes (with expert fitters), running clothes, trackers, gu, and so much more. They even offer yoga classes, spinning classes, and I'm sure much more that I just haven't gotten around to knowing about yet. The past two weekends I've popped up there on Saturday for the running group that meets at 8 am (winter schedule). I can't say more about how nice these people are. They have welcomed me and introduced me to each other. After meeting this group, it further confirms that runners are great people wanting to help out others. There is more than one group running on Saturdays and often it is based on how far you're wanting to go. I'll admit, I'm probably one of the shorter mileage people, but don't let that deter you. Someone is always willing to run with you or to put you in the right paced group. Bottom line, for all your running needs, I'd stop at this place hands down every time! I took my mother in for a new pair of walking shoes and Nicki took the time to ask her about any foot problems she has, what she will be doing in her new shoes, and expertly measured her feet. After trying on several pair my mom found a pair she likes. Amazing service. As mom tried her shoes, Nicki and I talked about their run/walk groups and other service projects the company does. Sometimes it can be intimidating to go into a specialty running store if you aren't a hard core runner, but we were treated with great care and respect. It's well worth it to go to Up And Running. Great service and much needed advice! My favorite running shoe line had changed and I needed to find an alternative. Mary Ann was patient and let me run in three or four different running shoe combinations to check fit, heel drop, and how my foot was landing. Going in, one has to realize they are a specialty store and you will normally pay the MSRP. But if getting the right shoe to avoid injury is worth it to you, then I expect you'll be happy to pay the premium. read more

I can no longer repress the discontent and anger that I have for the owner of Up & Running. This is now the fourth instance to which she was a total ass to a potential costumer! I had stopped in to get some nutrition mid ride and as I waited in line was approached and asked "Could you not wear your cycling shoes in the store, I spent a lot of money on the floor!" I know she cycles, so I explained that my shoes have all rubber tips and wouldn't damage the floor. Due to her crass nature and the three other occurrences, I will no longer provide my business, no longer recommend this business and no longer participate in the group run at this business! I will now travel the extra distance to the less hostile Can't Stop Running Co. This review is specifically about the owner and not the store itself. I used to go to the big box stores to buy shoes because they were $10 less and had zero assistance and usually the shoes were not a good fit. I started to go to Up and Running and will never turn back. The staff is passionate about running and loves to help fellow runners. They take a ton of time to learn about what you want to do in your shoes and make sure they are a good fit by analyzing your gait and stride. Yesterday I purchased a running shirt for my wife at the New Balance store in Town and Country and the staff spent the time standing by the register discussing their personal lives. I was thinking to myself, there is no way I would ever ask for their advice on running shoes. Again I would never go anywhere else. Outstanding people work here. I'm not a runner, but I have difficulty finding comfortable sneakers because I wear a brace on one leg. This means I need very wide shoes not generally carried in store inventories. I visited Up and Running for the first time and was met by extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff. After a bit of work we settled on a shoe we thought we work and ordered it. Upon arrival it didn't fit right. The store took the shoe back and we talked about various options and ordered a different shoe. We were leaving for vacation in a week and Holly said they'd have it before we left. On their running meetup days they sometimes have vendors so you can try out new shoes and stuff for the runs. I think most shoes are in the $100-$150 range. I expected to pay about $120 and my shoes were exactly $120. read more
