the big mistake of paying him up front. Not only can he not properly wire a MSD. But it took him 6 months to rig my boat and install the motor. Once completed the boat still didn't run. He wouldn't return phone calls or text messages. Blocked my number and avoiding the mess he created. GS marine in Norco ended up going thru the entire boat. Found all the little problems and mis- wires and BS work they did. Cost me anothe 1k but that's ok. I'll be taking him to small claims once this covid-19 stuff blows over with all my documents and text messages and receipts from GS marine. Stay away. He's moving locations. I'll be the first negative comment on his new business page once he finds a new shop. I'll be posting a full review and recap on all river forms and groups. This is not ok. Took my 1992 20' Larson to Rodes way for quite a bit of work. I had them install a new bilge pump. I had them install a new fishfinder. They serviced the out drive including new wiring for my trim, new bellows rubber, new shift cable rubber, new shift cable, new u-joint and a new gimbal bearings. They did quite a bit of work on my boat. The price seemed fair. They finished it when they said they would. With that being said their knowledge of boats is enough to make me come back. If you want your boat worked on by guys that know what they're doing, I would recommend Rodes Way. The next time I need something done on my boat that I cannot do myself I will take it to Rodes Way!!! read more

Took my boat to this place for the first time in April 2017 because my former boat mechanic closed business. Found this place and decided to try them out based on the high ratings in Yelp. MISTAKE. Brought in my boat for the normal annual service and that's when things went down hill. I only have 105 hours on the boat and EVERYTHING beside the depth finder was in proper working order before coming here. Dropped off the boat, picked it up and they said the depth finder was fixed and she was ready to go for the season. ...ok, perfect. Took it to the lake and I discovered the trim switch no longer worked. Couldn't boat that day. Took the boat back to the shop, they charged me for something they obviously damaged during the service or reconnection of the depth finder (because again, it worked before they got a hold of it the first time). They said it was ready to go...again. Took it back to the lake for the second time only to experience the engine sputtering, wheezing and cutting off. Took it back to the shop for a third time and I was quoted an ungodly amount to replace the fuel pump (over $1,500). WHAT?!!!! I told them, "This boat was in perfect working order prior to bringing it here for regular service. Every singe year I've maintained this boat and kept it in tip top shape." I wasn't given any reason as to why this happened and of course they never admitted culpability to the malfunctions. Needless to say, I did not pay the astronomical cost of the fuel pump repair, I picked up my boat and I will NEVER come back to this place again! read more

Had a problem with my 1981 Spectra with a 350 Chevy and Mercruiser outdrive. Pretty sure it is the gimbal bearing. Stopped by to talk to these guys about getting it fixed. The guy I talked to pretty much just blew me off telling me they don't work on old boats. Might do me a favor and take a look at it if it was clean, whatever that means. Then said it would be after labor day anyway. Got an older boat don't bother with these guys. read more

Joel and crew earn highest marks as far as I'm concerned. Its really hard to find a reputable marine service company who is fair and ethical, in my experience. Rode's Way is consistently fair and their knowledge / experience enables them to diagnose quickly (saving on labor costs) and they've never tried to sell me on a service that wasn't legit. While they can't accommodate last minute repairs during the busy season (buy who can), the were able to pull me out of a jam but diagnosing and repairing my boat within an hour of my call to them. The price was, as always, very fair and he even refused a gratuity! Rode's Way in Upland is the only marine service establishment that I've found in the Inland Empire that I trust.! read more

Been dealing with Rode's way boats for a few years now. They do great work and are reasonably priced. I do some of my own maintenance and have fixed a few things myself. I've been having trouble with my starter motor not working so I replaced it myself last year. One year later it started acting up again. The starter was aftermarket and not from Rodes way. I called Joel to see about getting another starter from them this time. Joel told me to check the starter relay. The relay was bad and it saved me $$. Thanks Joel, I just wished I would have brought it in last year. Would have saved me a headache. read more

We took the boat in for a service at the end of summer 2016. We asked them to do a once over on the boat including maintenance on the motor and electrical for the trailer lights. When we picked the boat up we noticed that the caps for the bearing buddies had been removed. We immediately asked them why the bearing caps for the trailer was missing and he acted like he didn't know what we were talking about. When we dropped the boat and trailer off we specifically asked them to not touch the bearings because they were just done last year. No big deal, we hooked up the boat and trailer to our vehicle and proceeded to drive home, we live in rancho so it was a 5-10 min drive back to the house at most. Once we arrived at the house we noticed that the bearing and cover had fell off the trailer. Very concerning espescially since 1) this has never been an issue 2) we asked him not to touch the bearing. No big deal drove back to the boat mechanic and explained what happened. It was at this moment that the less than desirable attitude started. He denied everything (the gentleman that works the front) and when we asked him for a replacement he begrudgingly pulled one off the wall and threw it across the counter. Once we turned our backs to him and proceeded to walk out he slams his hand on he counter. We turn around again and he acts like nothing happened. I believe there is a term for that type of behavior. Think poultry. We thought who really cares what the front desk person at a boat shop thinks so we walked out without further confrontation. Here's the reason for this late post. So finally I get the boat to Lake Mohave this past weekend. Put it in the water and parked it in the slip in preparation for the next day. The next morning I get to the boat and my damn boat is filled with water. The ski compartment was full of water, carpet soaked. My damn boat was sinking. Good thing it's a fiberglass boat with a foam filled hull or it would be at the bottom of that marina. Immediately turn on the bilge and start bailing water. Once most of the water was gone i drove the boat back on to my trailer to check for cracks etc. nothing. Boat plug in, hull is undamaged and no i did not drag my prop and motor on the ground. I had another boat mechanic look at it and he says the seals were done incorrectly when the motor was last serviced. Excellent. This is the truth readers, we've gone to rodes for years under previous ownership and never had an issue with their work. They will never touch any of our boats again and thankfully no one was hurt or worse. Proceed with caution. read more

Unfortunately I am writing this. I Took my boat in because it was making a loud ticking noise and I had just had the motor replaced "NEW" a year prior. These guys are/say a certified Mercury Dealer, they seem to do decent "basic" service, Oil changes etc. I had taken my boat here before a few times for that. Well I dropped my boat off in JULY never once did they call me for the first 3 yes 3 months. It was always me calling and MOST of the time the smart ass DAD would answer like why was I call. "We don't know yet or wanting on mercury for the next step" Um you have my boat maybe? Anyways, long story short. I had to call Mercury myself to A) get answers and B) get things moving forward after months of them saying well we don't know or waiting on Mercury for what to do next. Around YES "Nov." Mercury STILL had not received the motor. Then I thought we got somewhere "WE ARE SHIPPING IT TO THEM" I go on vacation coming back I decide to call Mercury AGAIN because I haven't heard from Rodes way. This is now Oct. 22 YEP to see if I had a warranty because the motor was only a year old when this happen. They STILL hadn't receive the motor. Oh maybe its because of the Boat show this weekend. UM WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE LAST 4 MONTHS? LOL excuse after excuse. So I finally get the motor back in Dec. like the 15th or so..... Oh forgot when I thought they were taking the motor out about 7 weeks in to having the boat and finally sending it THE FIRST TIME? "I called them" said hey is my boat being stored ok? They said well it will be outside if thats what you mean. I said can I bring the cover down. "i'm thinking boat is still inside cuz they hand not taken motor out, because Mercury won't pay extra labor etc. don't want to do to much extra. Anyways, take my cover down and boat had been out side for at least a month. Thick dirt covering it, I was floored and when I jumped up in it to put cover on it? A cat was sleeping in it and jumped out of it. There was no where to clean the boat, it was stuck in a corner and no hose around. I didn't have time that day even because I wasn't expecting to have to clean dirt off at that point so I just covered it best I could. I was so mad it wouldn't of been good to talk to them at that point. I just left! BACK TO PICKING IT UP. They Charged me an additional amount $480 past warranty cuz mercury and their hours they don't factor in oil etc. yada yada yada. When he pulled my boat out there was stains on the fiber glass. Like backed in, my back seat was so sun beat it will need to be replaced. My brand new floor, I just had done in JULY before the motor went out. Was destroyed! I asked him what was up. His line was "I don't chase Boat covers". WTF SO I paid to get out of there, I just wanted my boat back at this point and well..... I take it to the stereo guy as I use my boat year around and wanted to just double check the stereo and some lights hadn't been working so they were going to replace them. I had the boat parade coming up in A week and missed a bunch of trips already because of this time frame. Sooo... Stereo guy calls me says your whole stereo is soaked speakers, sub box, wires, lights, everything is destroyed. Sends picture too. What do you want to do? So I replace it all. I mean what else can I do at this point? I go to pick up boat stereo installer says hey by the way theres RAT chewing marks and shit all in your shelves and under the dash etc. I'm like um what? Dude I have kids man, being in construction. Ive seen dude get really sick off this stuff. So stupid man, Now we shall see is all I'll say at this point. read more

You can't go wrong with this boat repair/sales shop. For sometime now I've been looking for place that offers good quality service, at a reasonable price. Actually, they went beyond my expectations, not to mention their customer service, which had that old school approach. 2-12-19 went in to ask about having them do minor service on my 1998 force 120... ( don't laugh it runs great) I was advised that they don't work on force outboards, and that hardly anyone does. I've had the outboard since new, and tried to explain to the old guy that the engine uses all mercury parts , and I just wanted to change the impeller and gear oil; the guy refused to even listen to me.. I had read the poor reviews and figured I would take a chance. I'm glad They didn't work on my boat with that attitude. I think the bad reviews are well deserved ...also their business sign is barely readable due to age and graffiti , ( I thought the business was closed it by looking at it, and I imagine it will be before too long) I'd recommend against trusting them with any repairs. I have purchased 2 stroke oil from them once but it was so expensive I buy it on line, fuel separator and plug purchases were reasonably priced, so if you live close like I do, maybe ok to use them as a parts source, I won't again... read more

Took my bayliner in for a spring tune-up and a water pump impeller replacement. My boat left me and my family stranded our first outing. I should have just maintenanced it myself but was to busy. Bottom line is they were quick to take plenty of my money and it ultimately required fuel filters to be changed, carb rebuilt, and a new fuel pump. I won't be dealing with this shop again. read more
