My husband took our boat in and this guy charged $900 and took everything apart. To fix, he was going to give us a 'deal' at $7,000, originally quoting $12,000. Our mouths dropped. (Our boat cost $6,000). Obviously, we could not afford that AFTER he had already taken everything apart. Thanks for letting us know - And then, he was going to charge ANOTHER $900 to put it back together. lol What a scam. Nothing for $900. I should start my own business doing this!!! What a money maker. My husband had to put it back together himself finally so he can just sell it. Who has to do that??? I see other people have had the same experience. This guy does it because he can get away with it. Rod was able to give me solid advice for free, everything he said was 100% true. He rebuilt a fuel pump for me, and walked me through some additional problems. Rod is the best boat mechanic in the OC area. I purchased a boat that had been modified and every boat mechanic I took it to in the area said he would not work on it because it was going to be too much of a challenge. It did in fact prove to be a real challenge, but not to much for R & R. They started efforts at the beginning of the year and after many challenges, they got the vessel to a pristine level. The engine now purrs at an idle, and has increased speed and performance all because of the dedication of R & R. Even after they were through, the owner told me to just call if I have an issue or questions, even on weekends. Anticipate a little wait time, as they is busy all year round! I purchased a boat and R&R did the purchase marine survey. His inspection missed a crucial defect, a hole in the seal below the lower unit, a basic and primary check in all inspections, now I know. This error cost me thousands of dollars to repair. After purchase and before I knew of his xxx, he did some repairs to the boat where he intended to install the incorrect raisers. If there was a rating of -5 stars he would get it. Please, pay more and go somewhere else. you will regret it if you don't. read more

Again, another shining example of Rod's dishonesty. The only reason my uncle went to Rod's instead of me was because I was worried Rod was going to mess up my boat if he got a piece of my mind. I had sufficient funds to fix my boat, which I paid to an honest mechanic and now the boat is happily back I the water. Rod, however is anything but an honest mechanic. He is an insulting shyster, which would explain why his failing business is relegated to what amounts to the backyard of some industrial center. Sent my boat to Rod for a bent prop. Was expecting to take a hit for $700 - $800. Instead, Rod offered to tune up my existing prop for practically half the money! And the prop looked better than new. Also, I gave him the green light to go over the entire boat, and fix anything he found. Which in my opinion is the best way to test a mechanics honesty. Rod and his crew are outstanding. I bought a new to me 28 Scarab it was an unknown boat with very little information from the previouse owner. Rod went through the boat bow to stern and found a few issues. The issues were addressed and project was completed perfectly. I recently brought my 248 well craft to R&R Marine due to the outdrive not move down. I spoke with Rod and then left my boat there with in hour Rod called back telling me nothing wrong only need to add fluid. Wow! I told my wife about honesty of him. I brought my 1999 Bayliner Trophy 2352 in with the problem that it would not plane. The guy's at R&R Marine checked out my boat thoroughly and suggested I would benefit from an anti cavitation plate installed on my outdrive, so I took their advice and had it done also had a full tune-up and servicing completed they found my trim tab pump was not working as well after I was given a price which I thought was fair I had them do the work everything seemed to come out just as was explained to me. Today I had the boat out on the water for a test run and it ran Great got on Plain perfectly and was able to adjust for all speeds finally got my boat to plan properly!!!! I visited several boat shops small and large in an effort to locate a hard to find older Tohatsu outboard fuel tank pickup fitting (new or used). Upon arrival at R&R Marine in Orange, I was met by Rod who went out of his way to discuss my needs. We went into the shop and he quickly pulled from a shelf a used pickup fitting that was a close match to what I needed. He explained how it could be adapted to meet my needs and gave it to me without cost. After making a few simple modifications I have a fuel system that works. Rod was pleasant and generous.
